I am amazed. I bought a new pale green brushed velvet couch and within a week a friend spilled an entire bottle of red wine on the two seat cushions. I called the store where I bought the couch about replacement cushions and they could help me out, I took the pillows to an upholsterer and couldn't find any fabric close to it. So I took the cushions, literally covered with wine to Pearl Street Cleaners and in one week, they worked a miracle. The cushions look brand new. And all of this for $25 per cushion. I purchased a Groupon-like deal for this business, $15 for $45 worth of dry cleaning services. Great, right? I have had a down comforter laying around for ages, so I jumped at the chance to have it cleaned since it's always upwards of $40 whenever I get it quoted. I brought it in this morning and was promptly turned down by the receptionist, stating that my comforter was a "household item" and therefore not in the realm of "dry cleaning". When I asked her where it said that on their deal page, she simply repeated the previous sentence. I fail to see how $45 worth of dry cleaning for shirts/pants is not the same as $45 towards dry cleaning for one comforter. I probably would have even paid extra, since the price was liable to be over $45 anyway. Bottom line, I know these types of deal sites are designed to show people what is in their community and promote local businesses, and I was trying to support them. Pity they decided to implement silent restrictions on their deals, unbeknownst to the customer. If this deal had worked out, they most likely would have gotten my business from now on. i brought in very expensive Frette king size sheets to be washed and ironed. i found them too cumbersome to iron myself. i thought the quote of $24.00 was high for 2 sheets, but i decided to go for it since i was new in town and didn't know of other cleaners in the neighborhood. the first set of sheets came out nicley.. BUT the second go was a complete disaster. i got the sheets home only to discover big black shoe treads on the fitted sheet. thankfully no one will see this on the fitted sheet, but c'mon!!! i'd had an issue with the personalities at the shop on a different matter, so to me it wasn't worth going in to speak to them about the sheet.... i've since gone to another "very expensive" cleaners that cost the same ( go figure!) and they have consistently done a beautiful job... read more

We have been utilizing the services of this dry cleaner for a year now and one of our duvets got mucky dog paw prints on it. Since it is king size it does not fit well in our washing mashine so I sent it to the cleaners. We have had amazing pick up and drop off service that has worked well until now. Our duvet went in on a Monday and they claim it came back on the Thursday, but it did not and we have not seen it since. We have to purchase a new one which does not sit well with me. I just got completely ripped off by the owner of Pearl Cleaners. I purchased a Groupon for dry cleaning for a $40.00 value. I used the dry cleaning coupon and had $19.30 credit left toward future dry cleaning. The owner, a Korean man, assured me at that time that my credit would be in his computer. I returned today to use the credit. The owner, (the same man) said that the Groupon value had to be used all at once. He refused to honor the credit even though he assured me I could use it later. Honestly, I wasn't happy with the dry cleaning the first time. I only returned to use the credit. I do not like dishonest people who do not stand by what they say. They are making a big mistake treating their customers like this. I went straight to Ogden Cleaners just a few blocks down Pearl. I have always had excellent service there. read more

I think the reviewer below me went to a different place than where I have been going for quite some time now. Pearl Street Cleaners is one of the best dry cleaning/tailor that I have been to. I tried many different places before it, including ones in Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, and the College Area. Every time I go, I am warmly greeted by their very nice receptionist, even when they are busy. I have had many items dry cleaned here, and have never once had a problem or a dissatisfaction about any item returned. They always come back clean, and with a freshly dry cleaned scent. Some might say it smells different than washing in a washing machine and dryer, but that's what the dry cleaning process smells like. Another positive note, is that they use environmentally friendly machines that don't contain some chemical that most other dry cleaning places use. Apparently that chemical also has cancerous properties. I have also gotten both Pants and Shirts tailored here. A different lady comes out, and personally measures you and asks you exactly what YOU want done, not only what she recommends. I like this approach a lot more, because I've gone and had other things tailored in the past at different, and have had the tailor kind of pressure me to do what "he" thinks would be better. This is not the case at PSC. I bring in clothes I buy right from the store, and have them returned to me fitting perfectly. The prices I think are descent, but they have a very loyal customer base, which Is always indicative of the quality of their work. THey have all kind of clients come through here, including from what i've overheard are more business professional people, like doctors and lawyers. It's in La Jolla for crying out loud. Alsothey also have a pick up and delivery service. Personally, being a fresh college graduate, I don't really have the use for it, but it's nice to know, that if I did, that it's always there. All in all, Pearl Street Cleaners is always going to be my first choice for Dry Cleaning/Tailoring. The staff is always kind and helpful, clothes come out perfectly, and it's in a nice part of town that I don't loathe going to. What's not to love? read more

I needed a shirt dry cleaned today. Their sign says they do same day cleaning if you bring it in by "11am (monday - sat)". It was 10:10am, and the cashier said they were "pretty much done for the day" and that the 11 o'clock deadline "was really only for monday- friday." read more

Not impressed. Wanted to charge far more than Ogdens for two items within my pile. She added charges for "beading, a slip" adding more to the price then what Ogden's charges me (btw, it wasn't beading anyway). The duvet I took in is MORE at Ogdens, but that's ok because I'm not cleaning it all the time, like my clothing. Pearl Cleaners prices seems off for day to day items and press only items. read more

Horrible experience. Asked about a price for alteration and dry clean, was told $15 so I left my things with them. I went back to pick it up and was told $40! How could the price be 250% what they quoted me?! If they had known the price was going to be more than double what they had told me, I would have appreciated a call before they went ahead with it instead of surprising me and saying I better pay it if I want my clothes back.
