a variety of fish on display
    Shaima C.

Came here on a whim, wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I've never cooked fish.... but I ended up getting a Branzino and a few pieces of the clean shrimp. There are two different Branzinos they offer, one is wild caught and the other is farm raised. The Employee was extremely helpful and patient , I asked many questions and inquired about how fresh the fish was. I ended up going with the farm raised because they were smaller. They were able to gut the fish, cut off the head and tail for me. This was extremely convenient since I've never handled a whole fish. While he was gutting my fish, I noticed they had various shrimps, some where already cleaned out. I ended up getting 3 shrimps because sadly I've never cooked shrimp. The employees were kind, the fish was fresh, and they have a lot of different options. Will come back! And for those who are wondering, I ended up overcooking my shrimp. But the Branzino came out amazing!

    Always fresh

This is the best fish market ever. Nico and staff treat each customer with kind attention. They carry the freshest seafood and there is always something interesting and new to try. We love ordering oysters or clams on the half shell- they coMe in crushed ice with a lemon. Ibateas of turkey this Thanksgiving, we're ordering a large fish! Perfect.

This is my lunch today. I made grilled wild salmon :)

Best of the best. I come here every single Sunday. I've gotten the wild salmon, octopus, calamari, flounder, sea bass, dry scallops, jumbo shrimp, and I continue to try new items. WOW wow wow these people know their stuff. Their fish is always delicious and they always give me great cooking instructions. Every item I've gotten has been so delicious. I'm excited about cooking because of what these people have to offer and it's such a great feeling to know that I'm eating great quality fish.

The place was clean, fresh products as in (sushi grade)and very kind customer service I would go back there again to purchase my fish. Just had the 2 dozens of oysters with my husband, it was also fresh and delicious!

I love it here. It was a lovely fish market. I bought an octopus, salmon, shrimps. They were all tasty!! I wish I could pay by Amex.

So on the way to pick up some meat from a friend of mine in Astoria (meal will be coming tomorrow live), we stumble across Ocean Fish Market. So my beloved goes in to check it out. She sees something that she hasn't been able to find in New York City. Perfectly shaped, large bodied, whole calamari, from head to toe. The owner was very accommodating since he realized that my beloved knew something about cooking and he selected not only the calamari but also the little clams, and even checked individually to make sure each one was closed and fresh. Then upon hearing that we wanted a pound of swordfish selected one that was exactly 1 pound,And it was absolutely beautiful with exactly the aroma that you expect, which is simply the sea and nothing more. Anyhow, we get several to try and my beloved creates this meal. Which I have to say is the best I have ever had in my whole entire life. And no...it's not because I'm biased because it's that damn good. The fish was fresh but the owner couldn't give a dam about the service I received, apparently he doesn't need any business.

You pick your seafood, choose how you want it prepared, and then sit back while the kitchen works its magic. It's easy to see why this Queens institution has developed such a devoted following. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel like we were guests at a family dinner rather than customers in a restaurant. The service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, creating the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to linger over your meal. The seafood was incredibly fresh and prepared perfectly. We shared an 8-pound snapper, wild-caught salmon, and shrimp, all cooked to perfection and seasoned just enough to let the quality of the seafood shine. On the side, we enjoyed crispy fries, a refreshing Greek salad, and rice, which rounded out the meal beautifully. There's something special about a place that keeps things simple and lets exceptional ingredients do the talking. Astoria Seafood delivers fresh, delicious seafood, generous portions, outstanding hospitality, and an experience that feels more like gathering around a family table than dining out. It's a must-visit whenever we're in New York, and we'll definitely be back.

From ordering to getting seated was about 1 hour. After sitting down, they ask for your name that you provided inside and about another 20-30 mins for food to come out. We got branzino, calamari, shrimp, and scallops. I asked the calamari to be fried and everything else grilled. We also ordered yellow rice and lemon potatoes for our sides. My favorite was the Branzino and scallops. They were grilled perfectly! FYI: it's BYOB! They provide you cups and ice if needed.

Be sure to make a reservation, as this spot is popular, especially on a nice weekend. We recently had a weekend brunch at one of the tables outside. Everything on the menu sounded good, but we decided on a couple of their specials. Started with the razor clams, which were cooked perfectly and topped with fresh herbs. We also had the fried soft shell crab sandwich with the side of Caesar salad. The sandwich was well balanced with the crunchy crab and herby aioli. The Caesar was light and refreshing. The fish and chips came with two fried filets of white fish and a basket of classic fries. The fish was lightly battered and flakey. The house made tartar sauce was a good complement to it. Their HH deals are pretty solid -- $2 East Coast Oysters, $10 select wines and $6 beer special. Grabbed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc as I waited for my friend to arrive, which they were very patient and accommodating for. As soon as my friend arrived, we ordered a 1/2 dozen West Coast oysters, which were not on the happy hour menu, and several dozens of the HH East Coast oysters. Our server did an excellent job explaining the origin of the oysters as well as the specials of the day. The West Coast oysters were Kumamoto (California), while the East Coast selection were called Bad Boys (from Nova Scotia, Canada). Normally I'm a big fan of West coast oysters, but the Bad Boys were delicious! They were plump with a bold ocean brine & crisp finish. My friend also ordered a cup of clam chowder, which he thoroughly enjoyed. One of the best oyster HH spots I've come across, because it seems to be harder finding good ones lately. Would definitely come back to try the other seafood dishes.

It's a little overwhelming because there is definitely a lot of seafood to choose from. The fish selection looks fresh but they do have some previously frozen seafood like large prawns and lobster tails. They have the names of everything and the price per pound posted which can be a little intimidating because it's a bit expensive. We ordered a grilled branzino and asked for the large tiger shrimp. The staff behind the counter said it would be the ones without the head but when long at the sign, it said head on tiger shrimp so I was a little confused but we just went with it because we assumed the staff knew what they were talking about. We did also get the head-on large prawns. We asked for everything to be grilled and confirmed that they don't use butter or cheese or cream on anything and then we went upstairs to get a table. Upstairs by the window is nice because you can people watch on a good day. We asked the staff member if there were any butter or cream or cheese in the mezza or rice and she said no, so we proceeded to order those and also asked about the soup of the day. She told us it was a shrimp and corn soup and that sounded good so we ordered that as well. The mezza came and the babaganoush and moussaka were good. The lemon potatos were fine but other places have made it better. The tahini was tahini and nothing special. The soup came and we took a sip and it tasted like cream so we were confused because the staff member didn't mention cream when she was taking about it. We asked about it when another staff member came by to drop off the rice. The original staff member who helped us came back over and we asked her if there was cream in the soup. She told us that yes because it's a chowder and the chowder has dairy and told us that we ordered the soup. I'm not denying that we ordered it. My issue is that we specifically asked about avoiding dairy in other food menu items and she didn't even stop to mention that hey the soup of the day that you want is a shrimp and corn chowder and has dairy. She took it back but I felt like we were inconveniencing her because of her tone. The mains arrived shortly after. The head-on prawns came and then the branzino. The large head-on prawns were overcooked and a little rubbery. The branzino was a touch too lemony but that was probably my fault for squeezing lemon over it. The fish was firm and smooth. There wasn't a lot of flavor on either dish. By this time, our table is pretty full and one of the staff members came by with the tiger shrimp and he more or less just stared at the full table and then plopped the plate down right next to my husband's phone. We barely even had time to move plates around to clean up space for him, but I feel like they should have definitely looked a little harder because one of our plates was just full of bones and shells and could have been taken away which would have made room for the shrimp. They were also over cooked and rubbery. Throughout our meal, no one came to check on us once. At the end of the meal, I used my own hand sanitizing wipes and was a little puzzled that they don't give any to customers. We got the bill and were a little peeved that they charged us $3 to butterfly the branzino. We weren't told about that and we didn't particularly ask for them to butterfly it. There's individual hand wipes by the stairs and it's odd that staff don't bring them to you once you're ready to pay. Are customers expected to walk around with dirty hands to go grab the wipe by the stairs? It's definitely a one time experience and overall, I wouldn't recommend it for the poor service and seafood being overcooked and underwhelming.
