Shrimp
Diana L.

I use to not like seafood at all. Then one day my dad brought me here and made me try the shrimp, boy was I surprised!! I fell in love ever since and that was more than 10 years ago! This place is amazing !! Always fresh and food taste great. The price is cheap very convenient. Not pricey at all. Worth it . Food is delicious! Highly recommend this place ! Workers are sweet too. They have a seating place. Combo meals are decent portion . Love this place .

Got the #3 Fried fish- was okay. The filet was sort of tough and thin Fried shrimp- I really enjoyed the crispness Fried scallops- was okay Fried rice- tasted re-heated Nothing tasted fresh. I had a really greasy feeling in the back of my throat afterwards. Maybe I should have gotten the soup instead. Overall, not the best, but OK.

Fried Flounder with rice

It's essentially a fried seafood shack. It's not pretty, it's not fancy, it's cheap and quick seafood. The Korean lady in the front is nice. It's a quick eating spot, there is a long counter on both sides of the restaurant where you eat along the wall or a island that fits around 10 people. It's a very humble working class restaurant. The food: Soup- it's pretty much a Fisherman's stew. It's fish chunks with assorted vegetables, it's actually pretty good. It's filling, warm and flavorful. Flounder with rice- I was kinda surprised how much I enjoyed the flounder, I would definitely get it again. It was fried nicely and the fish was firm and meaty. There were tabeslide condiments of tartar, hot sauce and ketchup. The rice was just rice, think I will try a flounder sandwich next time. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/jose-fish-market-jackson-heights#2eFC0JUkRPZ9M0Cn3vGBXg

It is super greasy and delicious hole in the wall that has a casual attire dress code. Exactly what we expected. They offer many different options all with french fries or fried rice. It's a great way to get a ton of food for an affordable price. I genuinely like the fried shrimp and the fried rice. It was so good! Now, you don't have to go all the way to the city for deep fried seafood goodness.

I had stumbled into this place on a friday night in search of something different. i originally wanted to go find a steam-table type of a hispanic place, but im glad i came in here and ate. the atmosphere has the smell of fried fish. AFTER ALL, IT IS A FRIED FISH PLACE. as much as it is confusing to see the sign outside and come in here and see two korean ladies taking care of you at the counter, the quality and the taste is pretty much straightforward, and good! i had the whole fish (tilapia) and fried rice special for 6 dollars, and i must say IT WAS HELLUVA GOOD. the fried rice was subtly flavored but not greasy, and the fish had its head and bones intact. props to them for feeding me a fish dish that is unmistakeably fish - but if you like your fish to be filleted, they have that too. i just have a largely huge preference for whole fish since most fish here in the united states is served in "non fish shapes" my 6 dollar meal, lasted me 2 meals - i ordered it to go, but ate the first half in the restaurant (so i can take the rest home) and had the leftovers two days later and it was still good! i never learned to finish the american sized portion, and i never want to. saves me money and keeps my beer belly trim! this place is almost right under a subway stop, so if you are in the nabe, drop by and eat fish. its good for you!

Decent. Vegans don't come here. Health nuts, avoid this place. Come to eat fried food. Fried fish, fried scallops, fried imitation crab, fried flounder, fried, and rice. The place is a little janky. Don't come here for a first date, unless you're over impressing one another and just want to eat fried food. Also the TV show with the sensual sounds was kind of distracting. The vibe with the service is not the friendliest, but it's not like they're rude either. They're just doing business. The good: everything here is very cheap! $5-7 for every choice. I like that they give you lines, tartar sauce, hot sauce and ketchup with your order. Enhances the meal even more :) Improvements: - I wish the pieces of fish were cut just a little thicker. It's not the thickest filet I've tried. - I wish they would switch up the batter to a crispier breading with all the nooks and crannies. But for a $6 meal what do you want?

Fish and shrimp and fries (number 7)

It definitely took me a while before I decided to venture into JFM. It used to focus more on selling *fresh* seafood and has recently morphed into the only spot in Elmhurst/Jackson Heights where you can get your fill of Americanized fried seafood goodness. The meals are deals - most under $8. The selection is a bit limited though (a couple types of fish, shrimp, scallops, fries) when compared to other fish places that decided at some point to install deep fryers. (No fresh calamari :( although, they serve soup!) JFM's is definitely a good quick-fix spot (keep in mind that it's definitely NOT higher-end quality so one should not expect Chip Shop/Molly Blooms/A Salt & Battery meal here.) where you can hang under the tracks and chow down on fried goodness while watching free cable.

Great prices and convenient with 7 train and a couple bus stops just around the corner. Easy to find but cash only place. There's a couple different bank and ATMs around at walking distance so it's alright. Not a ton of different choices but there are a few. Pretty fresh ingredients especially with that good price. Portion is just right and gets busier in the late afternoon/evening.

$10 whiting plate and $12 flounder plate. Excellent with rice. Super hot and crunchy, recommend eating it right there when it's piping hot.

I am a seafood fanatic and I loved this place. I have tried several Greek and Egyptian style…read moreseafood restaurants in the area of the same concept. Astoria Seafood is definitely the favorite! The staff are so welcoming and warm it's like being served by friends and family. The seafood options here seem bigger than other places, though they didnt have my favorite octopus on this day. There's also a huge variety of sides to pick from. The only con I can possibly name is that we both smelled so strongly like fried calamari after dining here that I could only smell calamari on our clothes at our new year's party several hours later! Maybe poor ventilation or just a very busy day. Cannot wait to come back to Astoria Seafood. Very casual dining experience - a must for seafood lovers no frills and great value.

Will never come back here. Heard about this place on IG and…read morethe crowd was so big when I got there so hopes were high. The lines themselves were confusing but there's an initial line inside where you grab your own seafood buffet style and get online to pay. It was fun grabbing everything because even though it was a lot of people, the other customers and staff (especially the young guy at the cashier and the guy sitting next to the seafood bags) were SO nice. After paying $180, he said we can basically wait to be sat or if we find a seat we can grab it. We got on second line outside to wait for a table, but we saw two seats open with another group who said it was cool to sit with them. We sat for 30 minutes, a waitress came and brought us utensils and plates. Later this bald waiter (didnt get his name) came over and asked if someone sat us from the line and we said we were told we can just sit if there's a spot. He said that wasn't allowed and we have to go on line, we're stunned but like alright...we joined the line again where we're several spots away from where we were originally when we were first online (important for later) but we didnt think we could just cut the line back to where we were. We're waiting for about a whole hour on this line barely moving which it's a friday at a busy restaurant and I still wanna have a good time, especially because we're finally next to be sat. Then this couple just comes out from inside and stands in front of us. We're thinking like um what are they doing but confident the guy knows we're next. The bald guy comes back, asks who's next, the couple raises their hands as do we and the bald guy points at us like no wait theyre next. The couple then says they accidentally went on the line inside for a table. The bald guy is like oh okay and we're like ???? He seats them, my partner says to the bald guy that we had the same situation when we were sat initially at the table and he kicked us out and placed us at the back of the line. He apologized but didn't sit us. We're so pissed at this guy and this couple but at the same time we understand the couple because it's an honest mistake but we've been here for 1.5 hours and the only problem has been this guy. Still, we wanted to enjoy the night and were reallyyyy looking forward to the delicious food. But we end up waiting another 30 minutes to be sat and at this points it's 9pm and my partner has work at 4am in the morning. We are FINALLY sat by another waiter who is very nice and we felt bad because he just seemed busy and overwhelmed. But we're sat and given two plates and utensils. Utensils are plastic knives and forks which Id expect better but sure it's "authentic" and plates are just plain plastic plates. One plate has food still on it and I ask for a new one, then also looking at the other plate it also has sauce still on it and we ask for a new one. We get the salad we ordered and new plates. For 20 minutes, the salad was all that was served, but we also got water with our order and the salad was supposed to come with garlic bread. We ask and the waiter said they're out of bread but he'll bring the water. He brings water, then about 10 minutes later (it's now been a total of 30 minutes at the table) we finally get some of our food. We were given the mussels, scallops, and shrimp (still waiting on salmon, fish and crab legs). Now, we have been here for this long and the food looked like it was thrown on the plate with zero seasoning (we ate some but the photo was pretty much how it was served). But still thought maybe it'd taste good. ...It was so bland and unappetizing. The aesthetic instead of seeming authentic was now just looking lazy and haphazard. This is just such a let down but we got the salmon and it tasted okay, a good cut but that's about it. Then my partner was eating the mussels and got one that was raw, kind of the last straw for us after everything, my partner had to be up early for work AND we still had to wait for the fish and crab legs. He went inside with the mussels and said it was raw and mentioned just the entire mixup of the night. The people inside were SO nice about it. They asked what we'd like to do and we asked for a refund for the fish and crab legs (they finally came while he was inside about the mussels) (also the crab legs were given with no tools to open the legs but the plastic utensils). We left them untouched and just wanted a refund and to leave. He told them that they should also have a sign clarifying the lines AND about the situation when we first sat down. Even the owner said yeah we should've been served when we first sat down and that it was allowed to just grab the two seats (the bald guy was still there and overheard the entire conversation). The cashier guy was very generous and was telling us he'll give the refund but we can still enjoy the crab and fish but we really had to go. Overall, the most disappointing food and service experience besides the people inside.
