This is a 3.5 star review. We always come here since there aren't any real fish markets in Woodside. If anyone knows of one please let me know! Pros: The fish seems fresh and never frozen. They have a good variety of fish like atlantic salmon (although i'm no fish expert so that might not really mean anything) It always seems clean. Located right on queens blvd 2 blocks from the train. They accept credit and debit cards Cons: although they take cards they have a $10 minimum and they don't make exceptions I once went to buy shrimp and even though it was about $9 they still made me go to the ATM (minus 1 star for that). The prices are also on the higher side for example a salmon fillet goes for about 10.99 lb. (minus .5 star).

They have a large lobster tank with a lot of fighters in there.

The fish here is always fresh. I love coming here whenever I'm going to make shrimp scampi, roasted Salmon or lobster. Highly recommended.

I live nearby. The calms are alive and move occasionally so I know they are fresh. The shrimps are also really good and not too expensive!

You pick your seafood, choose how you want it prepared, and then sit back while the kitchen works its magic. It's easy to see why this Queens institution has developed such a devoted following. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel like we were guests at a family dinner rather than customers in a restaurant. The service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, creating the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to linger over your meal. The seafood was incredibly fresh and prepared perfectly. We shared an 8-pound snapper, wild-caught salmon, and shrimp, all cooked to perfection and seasoned just enough to let the quality of the seafood shine. On the side, we enjoyed crispy fries, a refreshing Greek salad, and rice, which rounded out the meal beautifully. There's something special about a place that keeps things simple and lets exceptional ingredients do the talking. Astoria Seafood delivers fresh, delicious seafood, generous portions, outstanding hospitality, and an experience that feels more like gathering around a family table than dining out. It's a must-visit whenever we're in New York, and we'll definitely be back.

Outdoor seating is limited and can get pretty hot, and the restaurant gets very busy, so I'd recommend going earlier. The line can go out the door, and the food can take a while to reach your table. We've been a few times, but our recent experiences with the service have made us less likely to return. On our last visit, there was only one waiter handling the outdoor tables, and he was clearly overwhelmed. He forgot our water and a couple of dishes, ignored us a few times when we tried to get his attention, and seemed annoyed when we asked for things. What really bothered us was that he complained about another table not tipping, then stopped us as we were leaving to tell us we needed to tip. We only had $20 in cash, and he told us it wasn't enough and that we should be tipping at least 20%. Considering parts of our order were forgotten and the service wasn't great, that interaction felt uncomfortable and inappropriate. Overall, the food and fish market experience are great, but the service can be slow and inconsistent. Definitely worth trying for the seafood, just don't go in expecting quick or attentive service.

Be sure to make a reservation, as this spot is popular, especially on a nice weekend. We recently had a weekend brunch at one of the tables outside. Everything on the menu sounded good, but we decided on a couple of their specials. Started with the razor clams, which were cooked perfectly and topped with fresh herbs. We also had the fried soft shell crab sandwich with the side of Caesar salad. The sandwich was well balanced with the crunchy crab and herby aioli. The Caesar was light and refreshing. The fish and chips came with two fried filets of white fish and a basket of classic fries. The fish was lightly battered and flakey. The house made tartar sauce was a good complement to it. One of my top meals this year so far! Perfect summer meal!

Their HH deals are pretty solid -- $2 East Coast Oysters, $10 select wines and $6 beer special. Grabbed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc as I waited for my friend to arrive, which they were very patient and accommodating for. As soon as my friend arrived, we ordered a 1/2 dozen West Coast oysters, which were not on the happy hour menu, and several dozens of the HH East Coast oysters. Our server did an excellent job explaining the origin of the oysters as well as the specials of the day. The West Coast oysters were Kumamoto (California), while the East Coast selection were called Bad Boys (from Nova Scotia, Canada). Normally I'm a big fan of West coast oysters, but the Bad Boys were delicious! They were plump with a bold ocean brine & crisp finish. My friend also ordered a cup of clam chowder, which he thoroughly enjoyed. One of the best oyster HH spots I've come across, because it seems to be harder finding good ones lately. Would definitely come back to try the other seafood dishes.

It's a little overwhelming because there is definitely a lot of seafood to choose from. The fish selection looks fresh but they do have some previously frozen seafood like large prawns and lobster tails. They have the names of everything and the price per pound posted which can be a little intimidating because it's a bit expensive. We ordered a grilled branzino and asked for the large tiger shrimp. The staff behind the counter said it would be the ones without the head but when long at the sign, it said head on tiger shrimp so I was a little confused but we just went with it because we assumed the staff knew what they were talking about. We did also get the head-on large prawns. We asked for everything to be grilled and confirmed that they don't use butter or cheese or cream on anything and then we went upstairs to get a table. Upstairs by the window is nice because you can people watch on a good day. We asked the staff member if there were any butter or cream or cheese in the mezza or rice and she said no, so we proceeded to order those and also asked about the soup of the day. She told us it was a shrimp and corn soup and that sounded good so we ordered that as well. The mezza came and the babaganoush and moussaka were good. The lemon potatos were fine but other places have made it better. The tahini was tahini and nothing special. The soup came and we took a sip and it tasted like cream so we were confused because the staff member didn't mention cream when she was taking about it. We asked about it when another staff member came by to drop off the rice. The original staff member who helped us came back over and we asked her if there was cream in the soup. She told us that yes because it's a chowder and the chowder has dairy and told us that we ordered the soup. I'm not denying that we ordered it. My issue is that we specifically asked about avoiding dairy in other food menu items and she didn't even stop to mention that hey the soup of the day that you want is a shrimp and corn chowder and has dairy. She took it back but I felt like we were inconveniencing her because of her tone. The mains arrived shortly after. The head-on prawns came and then the branzino. The large head-on prawns were overcooked and a little rubbery. The branzino was a touch too lemony but that was probably my fault for squeezing lemon over it. The fish was firm and smooth. There wasn't a lot of flavor on either dish. By this time, our table is pretty full and one of the staff members came by with the tiger shrimp and he more or less just stared at the full table and then plopped the plate down right next to my husband's phone. We barely even had time to move plates around to clean up space for him, but I feel like they should have definitely looked a little harder because one of our plates was just full of bones and shells and could have been taken away which would have made room for the shrimp. They were also over cooked and rubbery. Throughout our meal, no one came to check on us once. At the end of the meal, I used my own hand sanitizing wipes and was a little puzzled that they don't give any to customers. We got the bill and were a little peeved that they charged us $3 to butterfly the branzino. We weren't told about that and we didn't particularly ask for them to butterfly it. There's individual hand wipes by the stairs and it's odd that staff don't bring them to you once you're ready to pay. Are customers expected to walk around with dirty hands to go grab the wipe by the stairs? It's definitely a one time experience and overall, I wouldn't recommend it for the poor service and seafood being overcooked and underwhelming.
