4.5 stars, but rounding up! This is a very special, old place. It's a Vero Beach institution; a "must" at least once! This historical restaurant is located right on the water - any closer and you'd be swimming. It's an old building full of history and fun stories on the menu of how it came to be. It's a special place and it's memorable. We've been several times for lunch and dinner throughout the years. This place has a beachy gift shop, a main waiting room with the hostess stand, an oceanfront indoor bar and lounge area, and the main dining room. For lunch, it's more laid back. The menu is sandwich-heavy but includes some non-sandwich items like fried shrimp plate, nova scotia scallops, and a special entree each day. It's a lot less busy for the most part during lunch in comparison to dinner. Dinner is a big to-do here. They open at 4pm for bar seating and to add your name to the dinner waitlist. If you want a table, especially one closer to the best view, you've gotta get there around 3:50-4 to get in line. They don't do reservations unless you're a larger party. You can then either leave and come back close to 5, or enjoy drinks at their bar if you're lucky enough to score seating. At dinner, the menu is definitely more extensive- featuring steaks, chops, and different fish/seafood specials. We love their prime rib, and the creamed spinach is perfect and old school. At lunch and dinner, don't miss out on their dessert tray presentation. The dessert tray has a lot of options - and it's a fun experience. Their bartenders are always nice and professional, and most importantly make a delicious cocktail. Cosmos, pear martinis, dirty martinis, all delicious each time we visit. Servers are also nice and professional too which lends to the charm of this old place! We had one bad scenario out of all of the times we visited regarding service from an assistant manager - but every other visit has been great! I love that they have GF options, like french onion soup made without the bread! On your way out, stop by the gift shop for even more goodies - their homemade blue cheese dip is not to miss! It's complementary at dinner, but honestly we like to buy extra for the house. They also sell dessert slices, and alcoholic beverages like rum runners, pain killers, margaritas, etc in two different sizes. Great to take to enjoy and walk down the beach! read more

We were on vacation and decided to go and have dinner at the Ocean Grill. Our waiter, Andrew, was very attentive and knowledgeable. He answered every question we had about the food. I ordered Mahi with potatoes and creamy spinach. Everything was delicious except my partner's rice tasted terrible. It appeared that it was cooked with water that had a funky taste to it. They should taste the food that's coming out to the customers. The menu is very pricy. Expect to pay $250 for two people. They also have a cute gift shop... very pricy as well. A T-shirt costs $28. A chime that we saw there was $65 - we found the same chime on Amazon for $25. I did end up buying a small gift for my daughter. read more

Our waitress was very nice as well as the bartender and the hostess. Friendly atmosphere! I ordered the Beyond Burger and my husband had the Portabella burger. The portions were big and everything was tasty. It was fun dining with a view of the ocean, we could see the flag that marks the shipwreck from our table and people on paddle boards going out to it. Stopped in for dinner with the family and had a great time. The interior is really fun - dark wood adorned with colored lights. It's a cool spot to check out. Our server Christine was phenomenal - honestly one of the best server's I've had at any restaurant. She was super kind and friendly and great with our 4 year old. We ordered some iced teas and lemonades to start (all good) and then entrees, which come with two sides each. I got the red snapper special, which was served over angel hair pasta with crab meat on top. It was excellent! Very flavorful - the crab was almost sweet, and the fish was just so good. As sides I got a Caesar salad, which was solid, and creamed spinach, also tasty. We ended up being too full for dessert, but had such a great time. This is an updated review. I have been going to the Ocean Grill for many many years. I go with a group every Christmas to see the beautiful decorations. People should go at least once just for that! This year, I would say the food was absolutely outstanding. I had the stuffed shrimp, baked potato, and asparagus with hollandaise sauce. Everything was delicious. The food was very hot and very well seasoned. The crab made stuffing actually had quite a bit of crab meat in it, and the amount of food was plenty full. The dessert was a praline berry basket, filled with raspberry sorbet, berries, and vanilla ice cream. I'm usually not want to order dessert, but when Albert the waiter brought over the dessert tray, I had to try it. Speaking of the waiter... He was fabulous. He was attentive without being annoying. And he was very efficient. Kudos to Albert. He had to deal with 12 women with separate checks, and he did it effortlessly and with a smile! I recommend The Ocean Grill highly. I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience at Ocean Grill in Vero Beach was so disappointing that I felt compelled to share it. I was dining with a guest who is a well-known television personality from Los Angeles. I had actually suggested Polo Grill, but the reservation was mistakenly made at Ocean Grill. When we arrived, the hostess told us we didn't have a reservation but then said she did have a table available for us. That should have resolved the situation. Instead, she proceeded to speak to me in a rude and condescending manner, suggesting that perhaps the reservation had been made at restaurants in other nearby towns. Her attitude was completely unnecessary and made an awkward situation even worse. A restaurant's first impression begins with the person who greets its guests. Courtesy and professionalism cost nothing, yet neither was offered. Regardless of how good the food or service may be, being treated disrespectfully at the front door leaves a lasting impression. Unfortunately, because of the way we were treated, I will not be returning to Ocean Grill, nor can I recommend it based on this experience. read more

I was embarrassed to have recommended and invited my family, to what I explained "was an upscale comfortable dining experience". I've never eaten at a finer dining restaurant where we're served our condiments in plastic cups and needed to dress our loaded potatoes ourselves. I'm writing this review of the Ocean Grill with a heavy heart, as our last visit has passed. We were tasked with honoring a relative who lived a full life in Vero Beach, Florida, and passed away just before her 96th birthday. It was our responsibility to scatter her ashes in the ocean, so she could join her husband, and we also had to close her villa. The Ocean Grill was a favorite spot, offering stunning ocean views and delicious food from a wonderful menu. The cocktails are fantastic. Since it was our last visit, both servers, Agape and Brittany, were amazing. Our final meal included escargot, pompano, creamed spinach, yams, grouper, key lime pie, and espresso. From that point on, there's nothing calling us back to Vero, but the Ocean Grill will always be in our memories as a fantastic restaurant. Thank you for the years of excellent service. read more

This is the single-handed best prime rib I've ever had in my life. Knife was optional, and the seasoning was out of this world. I don't know how anybody would order anything else to be honest -- unless of course they ran out! Which according to our server, was a normal occurrence because it is so popular. Get there early (we were there about 5-5:30) and get yourself one! Our wait staff was fantastic. Parking can be a bit of a bear though! Definitely recommend and will be back. read more

Hold on to your wallet. It will be a whole lot lighter after you get the bill. We've been eating at Ocean Grill for over five years. The food has always been good. They were always on the expensive side. The last year or so we watched entrée' prices go up $10 then $20. "Specials" are not so special anymore. Maybe it's good for ocean grills bottom line. We don't mind spending money when we go out. But when you see entrées at $50/$60 it's actually kind of rude. I usually get the Pompano if it's on special. The last time I had the pompano it was very disappointing. Very small portion and tasteless. I felt ripped off. My husband usually gets the prime rib but they were sold out so he got a hamburger which was $20 or $25. We still couldn't walk out of there without spending $250. I usually get one drink and my husband gets a soda. I sometimes get an appetizer which are entrée prices.. The prices are just way out of sight. They are always crowded, we don't mind spending money, but I hate to feel ripped off. The quality of food has gone down. Locals like us will start to think about going to other restaurants that are more affordable with better quality food. Price gouging is not cool. This is Vero Beach not Manhattan. The service is always excellent. I have no complaints about that. The ambience is also very nice. With the ocean view and the interior woodwork, iron gates, stained glass, chandelier, especially Halloween and Christmas decorations are awesome. So sad because this used to be one of our favorite places to have dinner and also bring our family and friends. Sadly not anymore. read more

My husband and I dined here about 3 weeks ago. The restaurant seems like the formal dining option in the area, though it seems more beach formal and the decor is very random and eclectic without a consistent theme. The restaurant is huge and the views and noise level of the table levels vary. We sat at table 22 which was more private and much more quiet, which I loved. They serve you bread at the start, which included their tasty blue cheese spread. My husband got the pasta primavera, which he loved. I got the French onion soup, which was below average and left much to be desired. Service was attentive. We finished with a chocolate cake, which was tasty but did taste very much like a boxed cake. For Vero Beach the prices are reasonable, simply put, if you want cheap eats, Vero is isn't your kind of place unless you eat at Mulligan's but I wouldn't let my dog eat there. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Vero Beach. It has the absolutely best setting right on the ocean, what a spectacular view, wonderful service and food fitting of such fine surroundings. We had a big group this evening, celebrating a family birthday, and it seemed like everyone other than two of us, selected a completely different entree, allowing for each of us to enjoy a wide sampling of shared food. I started with the Caesar salad, and it came loaded with anchovies, just how I like it. For my main course, I had the seafood pasta, and it was loaded with fresh spinach, fresh clams, scallops, shrimp and crab. A lovely white sauce, complemented with more than a hint of garlic of course. For any entree you get two sides, and I went with their signature spinach soufflé and potatoes. Our service was tremendous, as you are accustomed to receiving at the Ocean Grill. If you've never been, you should give it a try, though be aware reservations are not accepted, except for large groups. read more
