We stayed here March of 2018.
Front desk: Check in was easy enough. We were given a wrist band to denote which travel company we used to book our stay. I found this pretty annoying and did not see the point as it did not serve a purpose all week. It was FRIGHTENINGLY easy to get an extra room key. Literally, we just went up and ask for a room key to our room - they never asked for a last name on the room, ID, or anything that might stop a complete stranger from getting a key to any room. This was noted by a few guests in our party. Fair warning, they will not or cannot break change for you. I asked they had change for a $10 and I was told to ask a bell boy. Service: We found the service to be either very slow or just mediocre. Also, I found it odd that when you passed an employee that majority of the time they wouldn't even acknowledge you or say hi. I was the one saying Hello first way too often. Our service at the buffet was always decent - plates cleared and drinks refilled quick enough. Service at the Blue Moon was a joke. A bottle of wine took almost 30 minutes to get. Our food took over an hour. Once we DID get food, it was placed in front of us and 4 of us put our forks in the food.. only for the plates to be taken away and then delivered to ANOTHER table. Service at Dolce Vita was fairly prompt - but we had two servers all evening.. so that helped. Drink service around the pool is a joke - during our week stay I had a drink order taken 2 times and only once while I was at the beach. If you walk or swim up to the bar it wasn't horrible. Room service was just mediocre, too. They never cleaned off the actual vanity, just the sink. They never cleaned the shower soap shelf while we were there. Drink glasses were not replaced all week. This doesn't fall under "service" but the amount of times you are approached in a day for spa services, water sports, excursions, ect is pretty amazing/ annoying. Esp when they are coming around to the pool while you are laying and relaxing or having a conversation, is pushing it. Food: Meh. Just meh. Buffet food is hit or miss. If there is a popular dish (scrambled eggs at breakfast, bacon, chilaquiles, ect) it will be out.. every day. Nothing really wow'ed us.. it was just okay. Don't eat the burgers.. like meat sponges. Also, the outdoor snack buffet by the pool doesn't keep food warm.. it just sits out. So there were numerous times I'd get a taco or nachos and it'd be cold meat. Blue Moon - okay. Dolce Vita was the best meal by far - wish we hadn't waited until our last meal to go here! Also, the only restaurant with any ventilation! All other restaurants don't have AC.. or so it feels.. SO HOT INSIDE. Unless you pay extra there is only room service from 11A to 11P. Drinks: Draft beer only at the bars.. but you get canned beer in your room. The house white and red are not drinkable. However, the wine you pay extra for is not horribly expensive ($30 for a bottle) and they are palatable. I'd bring your own tumbler to use by the pool as we got a lot of glasses that had dried remnants of the prior beverage still in it. Beach: OR Lack thereof. Directly in front of the pool is a sandy area with a boardwalk separating the beach from the water. To the left are piles of sandbags and seaweed. To the right is a small beach that is half Privileged and half regular. Still not nice sand and the seaweed is horrible. Btw the crews racking and the bobcats... they couldn't keep up. SO, don't come here for the beach
Pool: Two large pools- one is low key and not attached to the bar. The second has the bar, seating in the pool and the volleyball net. This is also where they have the daily activities- There was a foam party with a male "dancing" competition the day we arrived & a foam party with a female "dancing" competition later in the week. We learned that when they said the activity for the day was a guacamole or cocktail lesson.. it was for the whole pool to watch. Disappointing as we were hoping for smaller, hands on classes. Also, wake up before dawn to save your chairs. As at any resort the "chair saving" rules are not enforced and towels are put on chairs that are then never used throughout the day - biggest pet peeve ever. Also, no resort rafts or pool floats. I found the pool chairs to be old and there was a few I sat into and I thought they would break at any minutes. Same for the beach chairs.. all thread bare and falling apart. Time to upgrade them. Rooms: We had a room on the very edge of the resort- so it was pretty quiet. Easy walk around the resort as it's not huge. They did have golf carts available if need be. Rooms are very minimally decorated and small - the size of a regular hotel room. King bed was big but very firm. Pillows are large and fluffy. Our AC worked well. Fridge was stocked daily. It was nice that they left two water bottles on the counter and two in the fridge, we drank all 4 each day.
All in all, we would not return here. read more
