This was the first all inclusive resort I've been to. Room was basic, bed was comfortable, had the feel of a motel 6 with a mini bar. Our mini bar was supposed to be restocked with water daily. Never got done. I called room service twice to fix the issue, no body showed up. Staff however was very friendly. Food was pretty good. If you leave something behind, it will not be held for more than 6 months. My girlfriend is a member here and she left her laptop behind in December. She reached out to the staff and was told they had it. Several efforts were made to have it shipped but the resort refused to put it in a box or work with the shipping company in any manner to get it returned. After email conversation we were never told there was a 6 month limit. So we returned thinking they would have it, turns out they sold it, trashed it, or donated it. Whatever the case when we approached staff about the situation they were extremely unsympathetic. Yes it was our fault it was left behind, but if a repeat customer emails you that they are coming to pick up an item it's crazy to me that they would just "let your item go" as they put it. It's common sense that they can't keep a warehouse of lost items, but if someone claims an item, surely they can find room on a shelf for a laptop somewhere. A bit disappointing. So if you leave a high price item behind. Make sure you retrieve it within 6 months. Drinks were not bad for being all inclusive. Although as a lover of tequila, their Patron was suspect. Not accusing this establishment, but all the bottles that were empty went into a special bin. Never once saw a 'top shelf' bottle cracked open. Best part of this place is the crowd. Met a ton of awesome people and made some great memories. Pros: Waitstaff: (Manuel at the Italian restaurant was amazing) Bartenders: (Olie is amazing!) they were extremely friendly. Whenever you passes a staff member they always greeted you with a smile. This three star review should not be taken by the management as having anything to do with your employees. Food: Above par. Try the short ribs, they were absolutely outstanding. Cons: Beach: seaweed, this is a problem in Cancun everywhere so it's not their fault. Just a heads up that the beaches are pretty much unusable. Housekeeping: we never got a robe or our mini bar restocked in the 5 days we spent, despite bringing this to their attention. Rooms: walls were paper thin. We get it, you're on your honey moon, but it wasn't hard to hear what was going on next door at all, or hell what was going on in our room lol. This was my first time doing an all-inclusive experience and I wasn't sure what to expect. The purpose of this trip was to relax and have a true vacation. When I travel I usually save very little time for relaxation but I've been craving something relaxing and pleasurable and this is exactly what I got here. As a resort Ocean Maya Royale is gorgeous and a lovely respite from the cold. From the second we walked in we were greeted with smiles and EVERYONE who worked there was super nice and friendly. The man at the front desk upgraded us to a honeymoon suite (for free) which I am not sure why but I'll take it - and it was amazing. The room was beautiful with roses on the bed and a bottle of wine ready for our consumption. They definitely try to cultivate the "party"/vacation atmosphere with the pool foam parties and people dancing. If you want something more chill they have another pool area and beach. Was the all-inclusive a good deal? I think it is if you are just planning on staying at the resort most of the time. We stayed at the resort most of the time but took a day trip to Tulum and explored Playa Del Carmen for an afternoon/evening - both of these cities are charming and beautiful so it was worth it. We rented a car for two days and they had a very accessible parking lot. Some people complained about the beach - the beach does smell and there is a lot of seaweed but it's still beautiful and it's part of nature. I still liked it and had a lovely stroll at the beach. They also have nightly entertainment - it was pretty corny and I felt like it appealed to older people (50 and up) but it was still amusing to watch. If you're looking for something cool and exciting - go to Tulum. If you're looking for something relaxing and easy, this is perfect. Pros: - Clean and relaxing room - ours had a hot tub that was magical. - Friendly staff - 24/7 bar - Restaurants had lunch till 4-5pm for us late risers. - Multiple bar options - Fresh guacamole, delicious salsa, fish, and ceviche at every restaurant - The front desk staff spoke great English making it easier if your Spanish is bad and you are an English speaker. - El Charro had decent food - really delicious ceviche - If you need a taxi, they have them on standby there so it's pretty fast to get one (but it will be a bit more expensive) - The fruit flavored water everywhere was sooo refreshing! - Mike's Coffee Shop - great espresso and the barista who worked there was awesome - They accept tips/payments in US dollars which was really nice. - ADULTS only - no noisy kids - Travelers from all over the world were here not just annoying Americans (I am American and was pleased with how much French and Spanish I heard from the guests). - Soy milk options! Cons: - It's about a 25 minute drive from Playa Del Carmen so I wouldn't stay here if you want to go there most nights. - Weak drinks that were too sweet - top shelf liquor was reserved for the "privileged". - The food was bland at La Dolce - but their fresh Parmesan cheese/caper dip was phenomenal- the pizza at every buffet I went to looked gross and the sushi was rough. - Limited options if you're a vegetarian for eating but decent options if you're a pescatarian - Thin walls - we could hear our crazy neighbors above us doing random stuff at 5:30am and it was painful. - The housekeeping was wonderful with keeping our room clean but every morning they were pretty noisy outside talking so if you're a light sleeper (and I wear ear plugs) you might want to bring some white noise thing because you will get woken up when they start. - People constantly trying to sell you stuff - the second we walked in - we had to "meet" with a representative of the hotel company - he was not super pushy and overall chill but at the end he tried to push us to go to a breakfast (probably time share stuff) and we had to firmly tell him no a few times. - They will also try to sell you a bunch of vacation tours - I don't like itineraries and would rather do my own thing so just don't go to any of those meetings. - Certain services here are pretty overpriced (massage and car rental) so I would do these in Playa Del Carmen - For some reason the bathroom part didn't have a full door so if you're trying to have a "romantic" vacation, be prepared for your SO to hear you pee or use one of the other bathrooms at the resort for when it's more intense. - We had to pay a $10 "eco-fee" when we arrived, I wasn't sure why this wasn't already included in the all-inclusive. Would I come here again? Yes, I would. It was a beautiful resort with great service and incredibly easy to navigate. If you like mediocre service and no towels stay at this hotel. We were privileged members meaning me paid extra money to get treated as we deserve! I SPOKE SPANISH AND STILL GOT TERRIBLE SERVICE. Nobody ever told us what time we had to check out ever. They give you all this paper work and never tell you important information. Food was mediocre! Do not waste your time. I'm sure there are better hotels where you can stay and actually enjoy it. I WOULD GIVE IT ZERO STARS IF I COULD ! We had to basically beg for towels! So very much to cover about an all-inclusive resort where we spent 7 days, so I will do my best to cover it as briefly as possible. I've lost count exactly but I believe this is the 11th such Mexico resort we have stayed in. First, the location in Playa Del Carmen is great for two reasons: 1) Relatively short trip by taxi from Cancun airport. 2) Their beach access options are tremendous. And, if you want to take a great stroll of 3.5 hours down the beach, you can walk into Playacar for great shopping and restaurants and clubs. (15 minutes by taxi for about $15.) Pros: Beach access-if you sit down there after dinner, you will likely be alone with a great view of the moon, stars and ocean. Also terrific by day. And, there is a beautiful lagoon just about 3/4ths of a mile to the north. Bartender knowledge-some of the best I've seen when it comes to recognizing mixed drinks. Best Bloody Mary's in Mexico so far for me. Big shout out to Yovannetti and Hebert in the main lobby! Check in & check-out super easy and fast (at least with a "privilege" plan). Overall staff courtesy! Restaurant selection and food overall. (Italian was my favorite.) Reservations were also easy to get where needed-we had a large group as well. Around the clock room service. Excellent air conditioning. Housekeeping-cleanliness of rooms Gardens overall. Wildlife. Pool fun. No young children, which is of course only a bonus if you are not travelling with such. And, very few "adult" children-like most resorts in the area, avoiding spring break times is a good idea for peace and quiet. With "Privilege" amenities: Room size, modern décor, bathroom supplies, comfortable bed (especially for Mexico resort), pillows-quality and quantity, refrigerator coldness, "private" beach area with waiter and the fastest beach/pool service. Cons: Had multiple issues with keeping/getting our refrigerator stocked with beer/water and coffee in room stocked. Had the "concierge" ignore at least two requests over the phone for additional condiments/amenities. Can't order breakfast items, including coffee after 11 am from room service. Water pressure and consistency of temperature (somewhat typical in the area). Noise-we could hear every chirp of every bird, every chair scooted across a nearby or above floor, and so on. The "privilege" 3-story building next to the front lobby/restaurant area, anyway. Balcony flower bed full of cigarette butts. No "night club" for late evening dancing, although they do have decent entertainment near the lobby each night. I've only stayed in the same place twice since 2001, so I am unlikely to return here, but I would certainly recommend it for any first-time visitors, especially. It has a lot going for it-if they could just get a couple of those customer issues mentioned above straightened out, it would be a solid 4-stars in my opinion. read more

Stayed here about a week ago and it's definitely not a resort for younger people. It's quiet, the so called club/white party was horrible and there isn't much to do other than sit around and eat. The beach was ok, I've seen much better. Everything closes at 10p except one bar, so don't get hungry for any late night snacks. We had a few problems here. The check-in process was awful. The clerk was rude, our rooms weren't ready even after check in time and they lost our bags. People constantly harass you at the resort pushing the premium package or spa packages or excursions. The resort is definitely catered to the older retired type. Also, there are a lot of critters here. Some of them are cute, but a raccoon walked under our table at the Italian restaurant and another one followed us up to our room. He literally came up two flights of stairs. Won't be returning here. It was nice, but prefer something busier and bigger. read more

This was my first resort in Mexico, but some thoughts I had: Staff was very friendly, and welcomed us right away. Samantha was great, and had a drink in our hands and a smile on our face in no time. However, she was a bit sneaky in telling us about a very special presentation, only 90 minutes and we would receive a $100 credit at the resort, saying they wanted to show us around. Well, it was basically a pushy scheme to get us to try to invest in only coming to their hotel and resort chain, and become privilege members. Maybe all resorts in Mexico try to do this, but it just seemed so pushy and fake. When we tried to decline they were relentless, but on a teacher salary there is no way I can 'invest' in only going to your resorts, even for $30,000. On the tour they also told us only things for privilege members, this and that, even told us we couldn't eat at the Italian restaurant if we weren't privilege, which we found out later was not true. For our credit we tried to use it on a couples massage at the spa- they said, oh! No need, you can have a free 30 minute couples massage. Ok, cool- we went to use it- oh no you want to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade to 50 minute! Ugh, I was just sick of the pushiness. We were on our honeymoon, and she also told us we would receive the "privilege" amenities because of that, none of which we received (we did get a bottle of champagne, chocolate strawberries, and a pool side dinner so I can't complain). I just felt like I was promised many things that did not happen, or honestly weren't that fancy in the long run. Or you had to upgrade to do many things (motorized water sports). Other pros- smaller, don't have to put your towel on a chair at 6 am to have a spot by the pool. Food is good, wasn't impressed by the buffet at La Hacienda, but loved the Japanese restaurant (minus the sushi), and our honeymoon dinner was DELICIOUS at El Charro (we had a pool side dinner, but no one was eating on the beach... an upgrade would have been nice, but again, I really shouldn't be complaining) Cons- Things do quiet down early, pool is open until 8, but everyone was cleared out by 6:30 ( even though I'm not a huge partier, I even thought this was weird) Beach was a nice view, but hard to walk on or swim in. Not the most delicious margarita I've tasted, but ok for an all inclusive package. We also had an issue with our room safe, and called, but they never came. Called the next day and finally got it figured out. All in all fun and relaxing, I would really just like to try other all inclusive resorts. read more

Bar only provides on tap beer which is flat and only 2 to choose from and offer canned beer if you pay $35.00 per day! Also you cannot get additional bottle water so we had to go to local store to buy beer and water. Everything is additional but we paid a hefty price for all inclusive only to be informed would need to pay more. The food is the same everyday. Not much to do at this resort, typical pool, beach. Bar which drinks are not good. Best margarita served were at the Italian restaurant. This place is not walking distance to anything So be prepared to take transportation. I have been to many all inclusive resorts and never have I been to one like this. We are a group of six who travel a lot but would never return to this one. We just got home from our first visit to Ocean Maya and we already can't wait to go again. We can't say enough good things about this resort. The staff all went above and beyond to make our stay special. OSCAR was there for our every need. He even checked in with us on his day off, brought Jason a cigar and his wife gave me some skin products for after sun care. We wanted to stay extra time so Fernando went to Denise within Privilege and they hooked us up...thank you both for that. Octavio and Oli were awesome bartenders along with so many others who acknowledged us every time we were in there sight . Every single employee was happy to see people and said hello and if we had any questions they did whatever they could to get an answer to it. Met many new people and hopefully some we will remain friends and see again. The whole experience was so great that we bought into the h10 group. Poor customer service. There is a major lack in hospitality and there wasn't much by way of entertainment either. The ATM on the property will charge a hefty exchange rate on top of a transaction fee even though you aren't actually exchanging any currency. The employees are aware of this but won't tell you about it. The beach is has a major smelly seaweed problem that no one tells you about. I'm talking mountains of seaweed and brown water. The food was terrible, even when you pay extra to order something "better" the menu. They claim to have 4 restaurants, but two of them have the exact same menu. They charge extra fees if you want a "better" liquor in your drinks. We went an entire day with out running water in the room and when the water finally came on, there was no hot water. They didn't fix the problem or change our room until after 2am. It's an all inclusive resort, but they only give you a couple of bottles of water per day and thats it. One day they didn't give us any water at all and gave us a hard time when we asked for water. This resort is advertised as a 5 star hotel, but it was anything but that. Don't stay here! read more

There were a difference between the bands and the food and alcohol we could order. This was not even an option we were given. And I feel I already paid too much for this resort and it's terrible food terrible service lack of cleanliness. My friend had lipstick on her cup. It was not hers. My key card stopped working every day at midnight and I had to go and get a new one. My friends room had no hot water for a period of time. No one ever came to look at it. The food was terrible after five days we had two good meals. This resort is not worth the money that's being charged. And no one at the resort spoke English read more

I really would like to give it 3.5, but will round up. This was my first stay at both this resort, and at an all inclusive. The all inclusive was nice! I was with a group of 12 total girls (yes, seriously). My only complaints regarding that are that drinks could have been stronger(but they would make them stronger if you asked), the lines to wait for said drinks(esp at the pools), and the coffee service at the breakfast buffet. Everything was clean, and service was mostly good. We noticed at the pool that they have servers to come around and get you drinks, and we noticed we got passed by on most occasions. If we tipped(tipping is 'not required,' as they say), we got more attention. We were all in rooms with a "roommate" from our group. Some of us were in "villas," smaller buildings of rooms (maybe 6-8 rooms per building), and others were in the larger building that had three floors, and LOTS of rooms. We did notice that the a/c was MUCH better in the villas than in the building(I can't remember what it was called). The villas each had a wall mounted unit in them; the building rooms did not have this. I stayed in the larger building the first night (we had a trickling of arrivals), then in a villa for the rest of the time. The ac in the villas was sooooo much better. They recommend keeping it at 22 (Celsius), and that was so chilly we had to turn it up. The building rooms did not get as cool, even when turned to the coolest temp. Of course, we were there in July. This may not be as important at other times of the year. I am mentioning it because I am heat intolerant. On to the grounds: I truly truly enjoyed the grounds. There were animals ALL OVER THE PLACE. Including iguanas, coatis, deer, birds, raccoons, and some kind of ground hog thing. The iguanas were occasionally like rocks, and would scare the bejesus out of me when I didn't see them initially. The coati babies were the cutest thing to watch, ever. I mean like ever. The food was pretty decent. There were a few "restaurants" on the grounds, including a buffet, Italian, Japanese, French and Mexican. The Mexican was fairly Americanized. In the Japanese restaurant the AC was not working. It was a sweat fest. I mean like redic. I do not know why it isn't fixed. We ate there only one night. It was so hot in there (and there was a hibachi grill!!!!) that people were getting up to go outside to sit for a few minutes. I was actually pretty enthralled with the buffet. I went for breakfast every day, and lunch twice. Never made it for dinner, but did browse. It was lots of American food. It was like an upscale Golden Corral. I don't mean that in a negative way. An annoying thing about the buffet is that coffee is not self serve in the morning. They have free pour/pour yourself bloody Mary's and Mimosas, but getting a cup of coffee was like pulling teeth. They just should have a self serve station. If I can serve myself an alcoholic beverage, I can pour myself some coffee. Another buffet thing was that they seat you. We were a large group. We did not need tables pushed together-we just wanted to sit near each other. The hosts would most of the time just tell us to go sit by our friends. One morning, however, There was a table that just didn't have tableware set up; I asked to sit there and a server told me no. Less than five minutes later, someone was sitting there. Things are just inconsistent. The Italian restaurant was by far our favorite. We ate there three nights out of our five. That restaurant is right on the ocean. The view was amazing, as well as the ocean breeze. We were a large group, as previously mentioned 1000 times, so we did get to do things all on our own. We pretty much had a whole snorkeling excursion to ourselves (save another couple). They have massages, mani/pedis, an on-site spa, I believe a salon, among other services(including kayaking and fishing trips). Our transportation from the airport was arranged by Olympus Tours, who also helped us arrange our own private excursion to Tulum and a Cesnote. That was fun. We also got transportation through the resort(additional fee) into Playa del Carmen and went shopping for a few hours on another day So, in all, a very good experience for my first "all inclusive." They also do lots of weddings on the grounds. I actually saw someone buying their marriage license in the gift shop! And although tipping is not "necessary," in some instances it is expected. We got better service when we tipped. Our Tulum trip, which was NOT through the resort, tipping was expected. I am happy to answer any questions about the resort or things we did. Stayed at this report last week and overall it was a really good time. I would definitely recommend this hotel for the price I paid. I listed out some pros and cons below but enjoyed the overall experience: Pros Excellent dinner options, and breakfast/lunch options were also pretty good. Drinks were plenty and had a good arrangement of cocktails. Layout of the resort was nice, with the Villas being spacious. 24 hour bar and bar food option. Also offer Hookah at a reasonable charge. Cons Did not have 24 hour room service Did not have pool side food and drink service. Wasn't a huge deal but sometimes it is nice to have food provided poolside without having to venture off to go eat. Music selection at the pool and pool activities could have been better, but it was still a good time. ATM machine is a complete ripoff. Make sure you take out twice as much as you think you need, or can go to fifth ave to use a regular bank atm. They charge 13% conversion fee on the amount you withdraw, yes that turns out to a ton. 15 minute ride from the main avenue, which is not much of a con. Again, great experience. This hotel is rated as 5 stars, but in reality it is far from it! The rooms look okay, but that's it. The hospitality and the customer service is almost non-existant and so is the entertainment. No one tells you about the overwhelming seaweed problem that they are having. You cannot even enjoy the beach, the water is brown and the shoreline has mountains of foul smelling seaweed. The pool closes early, so there is basically nothing to do in the evening. The food is not that great and they charge you extra for "better" food and drinks - this is supposedly all inclusive. Not to mention, two of the restaurants available have the same menu. At times there was no running water in the room and also no hot water to take showers. The housekeepers stock your room with a couple bottles of water each day and according to the front desk staff, that's all you get. Some days they forgot to put water and gave me a really hard time to get some. This place wasn't worth the trip, time, or the money.. and speaking of money, don't use the ATM. It doesn't give you local currency but charges a 6-7% exchange rate anyways on top of a hefty transaction fee. Worst experience ever! read more

The staff nice, Buffett nice, blue moon restaurant which is their international hotel was not good. The Japanese restaurant was amazing Israel did a awsome job!! Would I go back?? Third stay: I was married here in June & the wedding planner, Alejandrina, was extremely incompetent. We didn't get two of the flower arrangements we paid for, she yelled at my bridesmaid, & she set up the walk down wrong. Luckily my bridesmaid switched everyone around (bride on the left, groom on the right, maid of honor & best man walk up last). We also paid for extra bottles of champagne & they were all left at the beach. She double charged us for something so we asked for that money back, plus money back for the flowers we didn't get. It took almost 3 MONTHS to get this money refunded. Our travel agent had to threaten to put the resort up for review at Apple Vacations before they finally relented and gave us our refund. And I NEVER got an apology for how long it took, or what an a-hole the wedding planner was. I'll probably never be back after this terrible experience, which is a shame because other than this I really like this place. read more

We stayed here for 4 nights. It was quiet in our room most of the time and was nicely decorated. The entire property is clean for the most part as well. We paid for the Privilege Package which we did enjoy...well at least for the parts we knew about. If you don't read all the services you get and tell them you want them you won't get them. Also keep in mind you are a target! You're constantly bombarded with people trying to get you to use the Spa, buy a Time Share, buy Souvenirs, etc. We were also assigned a Concierge but she didn't know much lol I asked how long of a drive it was back to the Airport and she didn't really know! On check out they insisted we pay for massages that we cancelled. I had to write out an essay to get them removed from our bill. Well it's Mexico and it's typical but this place is pretty good compared to the other resorts. read more

Decided to come and celebrate our 1 year anniversary down in playa de Carmen Mexico. This is an all inclusive resort which features six restaurants and pool bar a privilege lounge for privilege guest. More on that in a second. And a lobby bar. Very nice resort which is not too expensive for what you get. Not the creme de la creme of all inclusive as I have sampled many. The privilege package which gets you a personal butler and access the a special lounge and all of the premium top liquor as opposed to the regular guests. My wife picked the place out and I just went along with it lol. Not a huge beach guy personally as I would rather be in the city somewhere with cooler temperatures. All in all thought very nice and relaxing. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant. The food was pretty good also. My favorite was the Japanese hibachi restaurant and the privilege lounge lunch area. They had some pretty great of chicken fingers with chipotle sauce. Lots of sunshine and relaxation going on. Plenty of hammocks and beach chairs to lounge in. Not the prettiest beach as there was lots of sea weed along the walk way but still nice. Water was pretty warm this time of year also. If you are looking for an escape certainly worth a trip. Nice people and very calm. So not a lot of in obnoxious 20somethings to annoy you with jäger shots etc. read more

My family and I were so excited to come to Playa del Carmen and stay at this hotel. We had seen all the reviews and pictures of this place and had high expectations. We arrived on a Sunday around 6:30pm. We had been traveling most of the day. The least we expect would be a warm welcome, right? Well, we didn't get it. The front desk guy, Roberto, was rude and very sarcastic. He had no knowledge on the hours of the pool. With the heat and humidity we wanted to jump in the pool at least for a bit and he mentioned to us that the pool was closing at 7. When in reality the pool closes at 8! A big difference. An hour is an hour! We could have enjoyed and refreshed ourselves for a bit if we knew better. As for our rooms. We were a party of three and booked 3 rooms. My parents bathroom was full of mold and the shower head was broken. My brothers bathroom did not have hot water. He had to shower the entire week with extremely cold water. My room had the AC set at 66 degrees and could not be adjusted. Yes with the heat you want to be nice and cool, but not freezing. You still want to be able to sleep comfortably. The service at the restaurants was horrible. One of the servers literally yelled at my mom and told her to take a seat. My mom was reaching out for some coffee and as the lady saw her she told her, "hey what are you doing? Take a seat and I'll go to you right now!" I mean who does that? My mom felt her tone to be rude and offensive. The way some of the staff was treating us was borderline discriminatory. We are Mexican and thought that because we spoke the language we would get along just fine, but it was the opposite. It seems that because we weren't "white" that we didn't deserve good customer service. Moving on, the people selling packages were very persistent. The moment we didn't make it to their meeting where they were meant to sell us something silly and unwanted, they got extremely bitter. They would ask us over and over why we didn't make it to the meeting. It's like, we're on vacation!!!! What part of not wanting to be on a schedule or commitment don't they understand? We would also receive a knock on our door every single day at 8:30 in the morning! No message left. It's as if they almost did that on purpose. So the idea of sleeping in was out the door at this hotel. Lastly, there was a bad incident that happened one day we left on a tour. We came back to the hotel around 1am and the security on the front did not want to let the bus in. They kept saying that our room number did not match!!!! They gave us such a difficult time. It was until my brother got off the bus and spoke to the security guard that they let us in. The next morning, requested to speak to the manager of the hotel. Of course, I didn't get to speak to him. I spoke to what I believe was a supervisor and she made me write a letter of my complaints. She of course had to be on the side of the employees and it became a hearsay situation. We all left super disappointed not only in the hotel but on our "people." How could we treat each other with such little respect? It's very sad. Needless to say, I DO NOT recommend for you to stay at this hotel, especially if you're of Hispanic decent. Of course not everyone there can be blamed for what others did. So shout out to Tania in the front lobby and Patricia in the buffet. Those two ladies really deserve to be praised for their good service and attention. Ocean Maya Royale truly feels like a 2nd home to me. I simply fell in love with this place. Note: Make sure you book Privilege status/upgrade. Worth the small fee! Why is OMR the best in Riviera Maya? For 1. - the people/hotel staff. These are authentic, honest people with amazing hearts. They care about you and not just because you are a guest in the hotel. They truly go above and beyond. Every one of them deserves a mention here: Getse & Rodrigo in reception: Exceptional service and kind, funny personalities. Both of these fine gentlemen were a staple during my stay. They left a major impression on me and my heart. 2. The Food was amazing. 3. The hotel grounds were beautiful and the room was very spacious and comfortable. 4. The beach was pristine and relaxing. The sunrise was spectacular! I stayed here with 12 friends for my 50th birthday. I was disappointed in a lot of things and even embarrassed I had chosen the resort. We were all in the "privilege" building which was a joke because it's in the back away from the beach, no view, and next to the service entrance under the lobby. The first 4 days there was no hot water. Then we had hot water for 2 days, then no water at all for half a day and no power for about 4 hours that same day. Ridiculous. They are very pushy with paying when you order extra cost items because it turns out if the employees don't collect the money it's taken out of their pay check. Adult only apparently means old people who want to listen to depressing saxophone music 4 days a week BORING!! Lunch and breakfast were average. Dinner was good, but again don't bother with the privilege restaurant for dinner because they share the kitchen with the Italian restaurant and with just 2 tables in the whole Privilege restaurant it takes over an hour just to get appetizers. They wait on non Privilege people in the Italian restaurant first. I hope to have a better experience at a different H-10 resort because I definitely won't be returning to this one and I've got a 20 year membership!! read more

I was extremely disappointment in this place. We vacation a lot but this was my first all inclusive. All the food is gross. We are foodies and it just want good food at all. I stuck with mainly fruit and that's if the bugs weren't on them first ( I get it's humid, but gross). We had high hopes for the Italian place and the alfredo taste like dirty water, we had high hopes for the Japanese place, and you don't get options and it was just okay, all the alcohol is watered down if you aren't a privilege member so the drinks were weak , the beer isn't very cold , the coffee shop was blah, the Mexican restaurant spot was very salty and just okay. I even ordered room service and the ceaser salad was drenched with dressing , and the spaghetti again tasted like dirty water. The desserts aren't sweet and bland too. You can also hear every noise from outside to your neighbors chairs moving. Not very relaxing. I gave it two stars because the wild life is awesome to see on site, the beach is right here ( however I expected clear water and it's not ), the house keeping came daily , and the staff is over all nice. The shows at night are good but other than that there's noting to do . I will never book here again . read more

My wife and I stayed here for our 2nd honeymoon and the place is fantastic, very clean and covering all the guidelines due to the pandemic, but there is a guy who surprises you with his joy and energy, he is named "sexy papi", he works at the entertainment activities and always has a smile in his face, we got very glad with his help and ready to go again to this place and meet up with him again, he is an asset for this hotel !! read more

This is my first all inclusive resort stay, as well as my first trip to Mexico. I had high expectations for this resort based on other reviews and the Ocean Maya brochures/advertisements. I am beyond disappointed! We came here on a trip of 9 people, and upon check-in asked if we could be in close quarters or at least in the same building as each other, the front desk clerk pretended like there were no available rooms together, so he gave us rooms throughout the resort. When going into my room, I noticed two housekeepers finishing 2 rooms which could have been given to my friends. My room had small ants crawling around, especially in the bathroom and my shower was missing part of the door, so every time I showered, the floor would get completely soaked in water. Secondly, the food is horrible! The Mexican restaurant La Hacienda took almost 2 hours to bring us the food we ordered, which I ordered the quesadilla and there was no flavor, the funniest tasting chicken and disgusting fake tasting cheese. The second day we ate at the buffet and I was even more disgusted. The breakfast buffet is tolerable ( I stuck with omelette and fruit). The open bar is the only thing that makes the this place worthy of 2 stars, and last but certainly not least, THERE IS LITERALLY NO AIR CONDITIONING ANYWHERE IN THE RESORT BESIDES YOUR ROOM. The DJ by the pool was horrible, played nothing but Slow classical type music, some Mexican music and maybe every 10 minutes a well known Top 40 type of song. As I write this review I am only on Day 2 of a 6 day stay and I'm so ready to get home. We decided to take this Resort as a last minute deal. It was a very good price sounded nice in the reviews. We have been too many all-inclusive resorts we have a good reference point period First the front desk was very efficient we got to our room within a reasonable amount of time since we had come a little early staff was extremely friendly and easy to work with. The atmosphere of Resort is very nice it is an all adult Resort so there is no heavy partying and loud music excetera. The grounds are beautiful with lots of animals including Birds, Couti, agouti and deer. This was a pleasant surprise and added to the uniqueness. Free and good wifi. The resort has a nice Beach and you can walk 4 miles. When we were there there was a lot of seaweed washing up. They have two pools that are beautiful. Manny activities good activities staff for day and night activities. One unique feature was there foam party in the pool very different and a lot of fun. Now let's talk about the food. By far this place has the best food in there and the most amazing variety that I have ever seen. The Buffet was beyond compare with so many unique things I literally was on awed. For example , all kinds of standard Mexican food, and fish, pork, beef,chicken Etc... at every meal. Always fresh fruit fresh vegetables cheeses bread excetera. But it was the little special things that amazed me period for example they had mustards imported from France, make your own Bloody Mary And mimosas in the morning. As well as a night for testing all kinds of different fruit, meant coffee coconut infused Tequila's.For example...at diner one night there was 3 chocolate fountains. They obviously have beer..but they have 2 kinds on draft...unheard of at all inclusives. Literally you do not even have to leave the buffet at, however they also have four good restaurants including Italian Mexican Japanese and more traditional. All were very good. We are scuba divers and they have a good organized diving staff. The diving was the usual Caribbean diving with Turtles and Rays and your standard fish not very big. Let me say that I am not at all impressed with this resort! Let's start with the food, In a nut shell the food is NOT up to par so if you decide to stay here don't waste your money on the "all inclusive" go out and eat real Mexican food (the cab drivers are knowledgeable and will have recommendations). The rooms smell and the air conditioning unit in my room as weak. Housekeeping did maintain the rooms clean but that smell just wouldn't go away. I had to have my room key reprogrammed at least four times and that was a task! My foot is broken, so I had to be escorted by golf cart to and from my room. Let me say It was nearly impossible getting someone in reception to pick up the phone. For extra fun the elevator broke (I was on the 3rd floor) which left me confined to my room for hours until they resolved the issue. Hands down I will never stay here again. read more

In general, the staff is either naturally friendly or well trained to be friendly. Personally I liked many of their personalities. I've learned, from this, I'm not a fan of staying at an all inclusive resort. First day we arrived, we were notified the resort was full and that we would be offered to stay at another resort of the H10 group 15 minutes south on the highway, The Ocean Coral and Turquesa. Naturally, this was not ideal because between 1pm when we tried to check in originally, told it was full, drove to the alternate resort, waited in line to check in, checked in, and finally made it to our room, it was 4pm. Now, they say check in is 3 pm so I guess that's just one hour of our time they were responsible for wasting and not 3. Don't forget the next morming we had to recollect our luggage, check out by noon...drive 15 minutes back up to our real booked resort, get in line, check in, and get our room. We were fortunate enough to get a room near the beach, maybe it was their way of making it up to us, I dont know. The other thing they did for us was upgrade us to "Privilege* status. Apparently this is a $40 extra per night package. They told us they would do do this for us because of the inconvenience to us, and they did. What they didn't tell us was that we were upgraded to a "quasi-privilege status" in other words, we weren't getting all the benefits of the "Privilege" package because we hadn't paid for it. What we did get was being able to drink their premuim liquor from the resort bars, which simply means we could drink stuff that wasn't total crap. Whatevers. Without a doubt, hands down, no question about it, positively, absolutely, this has been the worst food I have ever had anywhere. My elementary school cafeteria served better, tastier, fresher food. Other than things like fruit, sunny side up eggs, beef which they sliced in front of you, almost everything tasted processed, stale, previously frozen and tasteless. The restaurants at this place are a complete sham. The workers ,although slow due to severe understaffing through no fault if their own, have been trained to give decent service at their restaurants, even at their "best" restaurants Blue Moon and Dolce Vita. The food is still horrendous. It is not good, not even decent, hardly edible. My girlfriend and I left so many leftovers we could have fed a starving family of four in a village in Africa for 2 weeks. It was THAT bad. They even managed to serve shitty pizza topped with partially melted dollops of cheese partially covering the pizza and used what tasted like canned tomato sauce.! How can you serve disgustingly shitty pizza? How? Please tell me how! Luckily, for me, they had good fresh and cut pineapple and papaya. You can't fuck up papaya or pineapple as long as they're ripe! Thank goodness they had good ripe juicy sweet pineapple and papaya at their shitty buffets or their food would have sucked 100% Their food now only completely sucks 99% The workers are pretty cool and I got along and had nice chats with several of them being that I am of Mexican descent and speak Spanish with a Mexican accent well. DO NOT COME HERE FOR YOUR HONEYMOON. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU WANT TO IMPRESS YOUR GIRL. DO NOT COME HERE FOR CRYSTAL CLEAR BEACH WATERS. DO NOT COME HERE FOR THE FOOD. If you have any other reason to come here then be my guest. Don't say I didn't warn you! I don't get places like this. What's the point to spending a vacation In a crappy place like this that cuts every single corner it comes across and takes the fire hydrants and pedestrians along as well. For prices like this, just get a nice hotel room without the resort ammenities for less $$ a night and then go out and do your own thing in town. First of all no one tells you how horrible the airport is, I will: It's horrific! After going thru the maze to the customs area then you're let out to the vultures (aka transportation hell). Waiting to pray on innocent first timers; ok yes our flight was delayed and we had to get transportation to the hotel. Luckily, we found on our email the name of the company in charge. Scary because we had no phone service! Really nice guy got us a Van/Bus all to ourselves. Thank Goodness because it was a long day. So we get on and the hotel is 40 minutes away, OMG! So you're on this road with the "jungle" on either side of the street; it's scary going 90 mph and no lanes! Then, you pull into an opening on the street for the guarded, hotel entrance. OMG! You're driven up to this long, winding road again, more jungle. And you get out of the air-conditioned ride and the humidity hits you! BAM, you're sweating, pouring sweat! Our choice, all-inclusive "privileges"...we get our room: doesn't look like a Junior Suite to me, it's ok, but not great. And the bathroom - a glass door - open at the top and bottom, wtf?! Why would I want to hear my man pooping?! And why would I want him to hear me pooping?! Small room with a balcony, we never went out on because of the humidity! There was a huge roach the 1st night! Then little bugs every-other-night! 1st and 2nd day we left $5 USD each day for the maid/room cleaner, ok 3rd day we had a massage scheduled early and forgot the $5 tip, omg! Our room did not get cleaned, and you can't flush the t.p so of course we needed more t.p and the tiny trash can cleaned out, but noooooooooo. I had to call our "butler" on day 3, 4, and 5! Food was for the most part good at the open air Italian restaurant and the private Blue Moon, the buffet was ok; watery eggs in the morning; the fresh bread was the best; the evening dinner one night, they had roasted piglet and the guy didn't know how to cut it, he hacked at it, but he looked like he was 17 yrs old. All the servers were nice for the most part, sometimes it was a long wait for water refills, but we still left $5 USD tip, each and every time we were at the buffet for a meal. We tipped more at the other restaurants. Except for the pool-side restaurant, omg! It was awful! The servers rude, the food blah. I don't know what the meat product they used for the "hamburgers" but they were awful! The beach was not clean or pristine like in the videos on their website. It was full of seaweed and no one was in the water from our hotel, everyone was at the pools! We could see down to the other hotels, with people in the water. And the "privilege" sitting area, it was off to one side of the hotel and no one was there, no guests, no bar service; except for the workers picking up the seaweed from the beach, but it was pointless to pick it up, it was never ending. We had to leave the premises once to go to Walmart, it was a long drive there, nothing impressive, can't see the ocean at all. We got sick and couldn't make it to any excursions. Yup, never going back there, maybe a BIG maybe to maybe a more touristy part of Cancun, definitely not Ocean Maya. (I know I wrote a lot, I could have gone on, believe me.) read more

I loved this placed. I was sent there by my daughters for my birthday. the food was amazing, the views, the grounds and my room were perfect. the night entertainment was fun. I am only disappointed with the people at he lobby store. very tricky. Do not trust them. they are fake and will call you madam while taken you for a fool. when you check- in you get a coupon for a free beach bad with you purchase of $50.00. An older lady and her daughter purchased a lot of items and then the guy sold her the beach bag for $5.00. He tried to trick me too. When I pointed out he sold me a bracelet for $5.00 when he was trying to sell it for $15.00. The server a the fresco area was amazing. she needs help. Service: Staff is friendly, average cleaning service Atmosphere: NOT for younger crowds. Geared towards retired/older crowds. It's isolated and quiet if you're looking for a place to solely relax and get away in a quiet place. Resort is nice and beautiful, but it's just the physical aspect. Other than that, it's far from everything else like the main attractions and shopping areas. Rooms: Average & standard room and we received the "Privileged" room, but it's far from what you expect. No liquor, no robes, or anything exclusive really. We had drainage issues within the first night when we got our room. Sink was clogged, toilet was clogged, our small fridge stopped working, you name it. They don't fix it till the next day either. **ALSO, important to note...beware of when it rains... your room will flood!!! All the "Privileged rooms in building 300+ were all flooded from the rain seeping in from our doors and balcony! It was horrid and a hot mess! Totally ruined our trip especially having to deal w/plumbing issues from the day before. Staff came to clean it, but the damage was done. Our backpacks, shoes and everything we're floating around our room and the same with our neighbors! They came to clean it and the staff was very nice, but no one from management came when we requested to speak to the manager (of course). We came to guest services and the manager wasn't even in nor did they provide any way to file a compliant besides giving a single sheet of paper... really?*** Food/Drinks: Not that good at all. The buffet is probably the best you'll get. We tried their restaurants they had on the resort and it's all very bland and generic. Nothing extraordinary. They do have a dessert/coffee bar that's open all night till 4AM, which is not bad. Pool bars are not bad, but closes early like around 6ish, which sucks... Pool/Beach: Pools are very nice, big, and spacious. However, Beach is small and reserved. Far from your usual crystal clear beaches. Ours was brown with low tides & rocks/sand that hurt your feet when you get closer to the water. Very empty when we came, again not for younger crowds if you're looking for a lot of activities like jet skis and parasailing and stuff. They don't have that here.... just yoga and swimming aerobics..... LOL Overall: For the amount that we paid, it's not what we were expecting. Staff was friendly and physics aspect, place is clean and fancy looking. But We were pretty disappointed so don't have high hopes like we did. Just do your research.... read more

It has been a couple years since our last visit but I still consider this our favorite Mexico vacation yet. The staff were always friendly and eager to help. The rooms were beautiful and convenient to everything at the resort. The specialty Mexican restaurant was good but we never got to any of the others because the buffet was always fresh and varied.Always a good time at the pools.....lots of activities day and night. A disco would have been a nice addition for the late night crowd. Heading to another new resort in Mexico at the end of the month and wishing I had booked back here again. Top notch ADULTS ONLY resort, read before you go. That statement is for all the cry baby reviewers. ORM is a quiet very comfortable resort, the staff is very good and try their best to accommodate you. I just returned last night and I wish I was still there. I just read a disgruntled review about bad food, buddy you must've stayed somewhere else! The food is nothing short of 4 1/2 stars and the rooms are very well appointed. It is adult only, which I wanted...nothing worse than screaming brats jumping and splashing in the pool when you are trying to relax. I also want to give a big shout out to my man Miguel Roman who made my vacation that much more wonderful. In short, if you want good food, service and peace and quiet stay here, if you want frat life GO TO CANCUN! read more

However, as a younger couple (early 30's) we didn't get as much attention/respectful service as our older, retired counterparts did. Also, we were solicited for spa treatments multiple times a day. This resort,I'm really trying to understand where these great reviews are coming from? I've been to many resorts and I want to say this is the worst one? I don't even know where to start. When we first arrived our rooms weren't ready, ok fine we had lunch. By the time we got to our room they gave my friend and I one bed, when our package clearly says that we ordered two beds? So the guy that took us to our rooms called his manager, so finally we got our separate beds. I want to say I wish we warned of that sewage smell. The resort smelled horrible I honestly felt nauseous throughout my stay there. The food was just disgusting it literally made me sick. I do want to say that this is geared towards an older crowd which is probably why this resort was so boring with no fun activities. We were told there were beaches there was none. There was a pool and that was it. Two pools a quiet one and another with music. The place was full of seaweed. The lobby was on the other side of the resort so it was far comparable to other resorts I've been to. There were golf carts and even one of the drivers got a little feisty with us using to the point I had to go back and forth with the driver with how rude he was. His customer service was disgusting. This resort wasn't presented well. The only positive thing I can say is that the rooms are a little more modern. I came here to relax and have a good time. Honestly I was counting the days to return home. I wouldn't recommend this resort at all. Everywhere we turned someone was selling us something and wouldn't take no for an answer. Oh another thing that made my friend and I very uncomfortable. They offered us a "Welcome Breakfast." That welcome breakfast was basically to show the "Privileged Rooms" Rooms that were supposed to be "better" which I didn't see anything special about. Then they take us to this room with this manager who is literally forcing us to purchase Timeshare. I felt uncomfortable. My friend and I probably told him "No" like 3 or 4 times. He wouldn't take no for an answer. Why on earth would I invest in a timeshare when this resort looks and smells like a dump? I came to relax why is it every time I turned someone wants to sell me something? The customer services is horrendous. The food did not taste good. The drinks were ok. The food literally got me sick. I was in bed for 3 days sick after I returned from my trip there and so did my friend. My stay here was less than pleasing. I would never recommend this resort to anyone. I will never return to this resort there are far way better resorts in Mexico than this dump. read more
