My friend introduced me to ocean nails because they are one of the few places in SB that does dip powder nails. I've gotten my nails done twice now, and the results have been great, they've lasted 6 weeks each. My most recent time, I got "French fade"/"French ombré" and received so many compliments even when they were grown out. The reason they get 4 stars is because she knicked my cuticle using a drill and it started bleeding, and she blamed me for moving my finger when I only flinched because she had already come too close to my cuticle. Anyway, I love the results and the work they do, but the customer service, not so much. Last past week on Thursday I got a gel refill. But one of the nails came off yesterday so I made an appointment for today to fix it with Ken at 9:45 am . When they asked me to sit it was 10 am he applied only one nail and left me waiting for another 20 more minutes while he was finishing his earlier appointment. It was more longer the waiting than what he actually did and supposedly fixed . The nail ended horrible not even the shape and he did not even bother to check the rest of the nails . When I got home another nail is almost falling too. This would not even happened if he had taking the time to check all of them at least as a courtesy because of the waiting. This is the second time that they made me wait a long time and the first time the wait was 45 min and I told the lady at the counter and she got upset and acted rude I am not ever coming back .Not recommended. read more

I would give this place 0 stars if possible! I came in to get my gel removed and a manicure with no polish. A trainee started to remove my gel and she over filed my nails and kept hurting me. I requested a different person to finish and she just came to "massage" my hands so I stopped her because my hands were powdery from the gel removal. I got up and left instead. They did not soak or remove cuticles but still charged me 30 dollars. This place is by far the worst nail salon I have ever been to. Super unprofessional and inexperienced staff. Ladies were very nice l have no complaints about their attitude as they were nice and welcoming. The pedicure I got was good, but again can't really go wrong there. I went wrong when I got a gel full set. I know I have very short nails and to be fair I do my own nails at home most the time but this experience just reminded me why I do that. These were just not very cute, and they were done in an hour or less so it was VERY rushed. Again the last was nice but these nails are just not cute at all. They are shaped badly and very thick at the circles. The polish job also was rushed. I don't like confrontation much and was short on time but I don't think I'll be coming here anytime again soon. Update: polish has chipped because it wasn't cleaned up on sides so it literally started breaking off. Kohn was amazing, but he left to open his own shop in LA and any customer service skills that Ocean Nails had, left with him. You are NEVER greeted with a smile or made to free welcome. I honestly hate that I'm having to give this place a one star especially since the other two times I've been here, I've had excellent service. However this last time I went, it was most definitely a hit and miss. I booked an appointment for my sister, a friend and I all for 5:30 p.m. , we arrived 15 minutes prior and were told to wait. We waited and finally got some service a whole hour later. What's the point in making an appointment if it's not validated nor taken in account for? We thought we'd be seated pretty soon afterwards but instead we spent an hour waiting. Seemed like making an appointment wasn't even necessary if we waited an hour to be attended. Anyways, we were all just eager to get our nails done. However, my eagerness definitely turned into disappointment. I came in for a simple acrylic nail removal and a regular manicure. The nail tech was fast in removing my nails. However she was way too fast and careless in painting my nails. She started off with a thick coat of nail polish and quickly added another thick coat, missing several areas. Her coworker took over and did another coat, he was more patient and actually took his time. However either way it wasn't enough to fix the mistakes. The end result was chunky, uneven nail polish with air bubbles and dents. Also side areas that were fully bare. Botched mani. One week later, nail polish is already chipped. I understand the nail salon can get busy, but you need employees who are efficient and know what they are doing without rushing you out the door and performing a poor job. I love how they did my acrylic nails in the past however I learned my lesson and will definitely never get a regular manicure done here again. This was my second visit to Ocean Nails and first time trying dip powder here (last time I got gel). I decided to come here again even though I already have a local salon I like to visit because my friends really like Ocean and the dip powder selection is huge. I called and was pleased to be able to make a same-day appointment for two dip powder manicures for a friend and I. When we arrived, the place was packed (that's a good sign) and they had TONS of dip powder colors to choose from, it was overwhelming. The nail techs greeted us and rushed us to pick out a color so we could sit down and get started. (I get it, they were very busy and don't want empty chairs). Since I was not sure coming in what I wanted I was kind of bummed that I didn't get to take my time to look at all my options. I just settled with the first color that I liked which ended up being a bright white with a bit of sparkle in it. My nail tech was great at communicating with me through the entire service, constantly asking what I think and if I like the length and shape as he went. I typically request coffin or narrow shaped nails but he told me he was unable to shape them that way since I wanted him to cut them really short (weird, because I always get short nails and other techs usually file them narrow to my request). They ended up looking really flared and wide for my liking but I'm happy overall with the color and service. The cost for dip on my natural nails was $40 with an additional $5 cost for removal of the acrylic set I had on before. Pretty reasonable for the Santa Barbara area. I'll likely return to Ocean again if I'm looking for a very specific dip powder color, otherwise, I'll probably stick with my regular salon. read more

I walked in yesterday and felt super rushed and uncomfortable from the beginning. The nail tech was not pleasant towards me at all, and she rushed through the entire process, leaving my nails looking very rough. She did not clean or push down my cuticles, so my nails looked like they had already grown out quite a bit the same DAY. Ivy did my dip powder manicure and let me just say for my first time trying it out, I am completely satisfied. She took her time on each and every nail. If I lived in SB I definitely would make this my go to nail salon. I also, ended up getting a pedicure with Andy. He didn't rush which I liked and gave me a really nice leg and foot massage. I don't know why I keep coming back to this place, I really wanted to like it and find a place to go. It really depends on who you get and what time of day, they all rush threw it. The last guy was by far the laziest and I told him my nails were lifting and instead of either cutting them down or replacing them he just super glued them back down. I've been to Ocean Nails many times . The first five times I had a great young man who took care of me, and a few other times I had different people who did a good job as well. The owner / manager is funny and I like going because of him but the last two times it's been bad enough to share a review. Two weeks ago I had a fill and pedicure. The pedicure was nice. However,The tech who "filled" my nails cut me twice, never removed the old nails that had lifted, never put no lift on before filling, left excess acrylic on sides that came off a day later, and just tried to upsell me on everything. This time, two weeks later after my last pedicure , I came in to get another pedicure. The tech put my feet in the water for perhaps one minute, removed them both, dried them and cut me. No comment . Then, immediately hot towel, no massage or lotion then PLACED MY SANDALS ON MY FEET, and painted my toenails ALSO my sandals!!!!. They look so bad I'm going to redo them today elsewhere. One person started prepping my nails and then once it was time to put on the color all together had 3 people tell me I had to pay for my service then. I was extremely offended by this as this threw me off guard and then ruined the rest of my experience. Ocean Nails is the best. The owners and staff are all very friendly and helpful and many with their own specialty. There are so many choices of colors and techniques in manicures available from a standard one, dip, acrylic, hombre and chrome. Same with pedicures - something for everyone. My favorite visit is a French dip manicure with a deluxe pedicure which includes a scrub, callous attention, hot wax on my feet and a foot and leg massage. A very relaxing and rejuvenating time. There are so few places in Santa Barbara that do dip (SNS) nails, but of the ones that do Ocean Nails is the best one. I have been there probably 3 times now, and every time I go they are busy no matter what time of day. Don't think of that as a bad sign - it's packed because people know to trust them! Though if you're on a tight schedule, I'd suggest calling in for an appointment. Each technician posts their certifications next to the station they work at. Pedicure chairs use liners for additional cleanliness and you can see all the tools being disinfected after their use. Every technician I've been to has been very delicate with removing my powder or gel. The best part though? When you stupidly use your long, natural nails to remove the backs of picture frames and almost rip one off completely, they fix it *free* of charge. Just remember your color/dip number otherwise you'll be searching through their 600+ colors for 20 minutes like I did . read more

I wish I could give zero stars. I had always frequented Ocean's for pedicures, so when I visited their nail salon and clearly communicated that I wanted a slight trim, a square shape with a gentle rounding on the edges, I expected a positive experience and sat back to relax. However, the reality was a nightmare. The nail technician not only cut my nails down to the cuticle but also left one side of each big toe significantly shorter, causing pain. (Picture of one). Shocked, I let the technician know that I was not happy with the results, but he didn't seem to care so I paid, tipped, and left. Upon realizing the extent of the damage at home, I reached out to Ocean's asking for a refund. Unfortunately, their customer service was worse than the pedicure itself. They blamed me for miscommunication, insisting it was my fault. I explained my initial request, provided pictures of what I got, and they still refused a refund. This appalling experience, coupled with terrible customer service, ensures I'll never return to Ocean's. read more

Mimi did a great job on my mani Pedi. I'm usually not one to write a review let alone get a Mani Pedi but she did a great job and was very professional. She went based off of my cues and kept conversation to a minimum. Even though it was a simple nail polish Mani Pedi she did such a great job cleaning up my nails and removing the excess cuticle skin and filing the nail surface. She uses a UV light/LED machine to warm up your nails and activates the nail polish color. If you want a simple, quick but good looking mani Pedi, ask for Mimi!
