Came here for the first time tonight. It's in a great spot right on the beach with its own pier. Parking was a breeze (even in this just area). The hostess was pleasant and our waiter Kyle was super friendly and attentive. They started us out right away with fresh hush puppies and waters for the whole table. We got calamari as an appetizer which was HUGE and even though it came with calamari, carrots, banana peppers, and jalapeños it was worth it. We got the shrimp with white cheddar grits and diver scallops as the main entree. Both entrees were tasty, but more on the expensive side. Great spot for a family or date if you want a nice view. However, do expect to pay a little more for the location. read more

Absolutely amazing, came here on a Saturday lunch around 1pm and was slower when I came in and got very busy. It was a chilly windy day but the view was amazing from the bar. The bartender "Davin" was very friendly and attentive. I got the Carolina Crab Dip and that was to die for, nice and hot and extremely tasty. Then I had the Shrimp Platter with Fries and slaw and that was great also, very fresh. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. I have been to the oceanic multiple times and can confidently say the view is the best thing on the menu. Doesn't really matter what you get because the food tastes average and everything is expensive. We were seated quickly which was unusual because it's typically at least a 15-20 mins wait. The service was okay but nothing special. The drinks were great. I recommend the sangria or they had a seasonal mule. Overall, the food isn't worth the price but the view is great. Oceanic. Known for the view. I'm a local. I've probably eaten there 100s of times. I love the staff who I'd prefer to refer to as family. Don't really love the food but I can hands down today say best She Crab in NC and VA. Special shout out to Brandi...the hardest working drink specialist/therapist. KJ the get shit done manager and Mark the GM who is just a stellar human and will educate you all day! Btw I'm a burger snob and I tell people oceanic is the hidden burger gem. Medium. Extra pickles. So go and have fun. You will be treated well. Btw the other food is fine. Umm just picky and go to places for specific dishes. Oh and apparently JT makes the soup now and he is so sweet. I have gone here many times and never had an issue in the past, but today I went to enjoy a meal and everything started fine. Once we got the "food" which was 2 order of Mahi Mahi tacos, I received a nugget of mahi in 2 of the 3 tacos so I waited for the waitress to come by and check how the meal was which took a little over 15 minutes and then we waited about 25 minutes for the new food to come out. Once I got the new plate full of Mahi Mahi, I ate it and enjoy my bottled water I had to get from my car as there was no refills other than an initial one about 10 minutes into sitting. We then patiently waited for a receipt. The couple next to us had been waiting for 50 total minutes from the time they finished their meal and received their to-go desert for a receipt from the same server, which I then requested mine as well. Very poor service. Never an issue in the past, but this was insanely bad. read more

We went to Oceanic last night and I finally had to write a review. To begin with, we were greeted by a friendly gentleman who showed us to a nice booth. Our server Jessica, immediately welcomed us and took our drink orders. We were ready to order apps which were Sun Kisses Shrimp and Oysters Rockefeller. They were amazing. I had the Blackened Swordfish and my wife had the Scallops. Both were perfect. Several times Jessica checked in with us making sure we had everything that we needed. I highly recommend Oceanic for the food, customer service and the atmosphere. If this restaurant isn't on your list, it should be. The location, on the water, make this the restaurant we will be bringing friends and family when they visit. read more

We thought we would walk over and grab dinner at Oceanic yesterday. We know it was 7:00 on on a Sat night without reservations, so we figured we would wait. No big deal since we stopped in the night before and had fabulous service at the bar. Well, we were seated right away and although there were several large tables, our waitress, Hannah was friendly, efficient and all around fabulous! My husband had a fried plate and I had catch of the day! Tasty!! My one complaint is that I ordered 3 Davis Love III drinks and each time it tasted different. I liked the first two, but the one I had when we went to bar afterward was heavy tea and light gin ( I watched the bartender make it), and he wasn't as friendly as the bartender from the previous night. You're outside on water, it is to be expected. Food Sweet tea. Great Crab cake sandwich. AMAZING! I am very picky about crab cakes and thought it was awesome. Mostly crab. Not fried. Before going to this restaurant strongly consider your other options and foregoing the inevitable disappointment. Yelp classifies this establishment as classy, romantic.. If your idea of classy and romantic includes Popeyes and Denny's then continue on to Oceanic. From the rude teenage hostesses who grumbled something under their breath and lead us to a most depressing, saddest area of a restaurant I have ever experienced (first floor) to the clueless bar tender who was more focused on his conversation with another patron then serving a party of seven, to the $32 catch of the day (mahi-mahi) plate which consisted of a serving of cafeteria style uncle Bens rice, old asparagus a child-sized portion of (possibly) mahi mahi tail, all graced by a slice of already squeezed lemon, this underwhelming restaurant leaves one to wonder how such such a sad excuse for a restaurant can persist in such a great location. The plate was returned and a message was conveyed via waitress that we will not be asked to pay for it.. The other six meals were equally underwhelming and left all who endured this utterly disappointing experience lost for words and eager to run while we still have hope that there must be , not counting burger joints and Bridgetender, at least one good restaurant in this town. read more

I've been eating here for 10 years. I ordered a martini up with a lemon twist. 20 minutes later they brought a lemontini with salt on the rim. Meanwhile, another waiter stopped to tell us that he had our table. We asked that the drink be remade, and ordered the shrimp app. The waiter brought another Lemontini 20 minutes later. We told him it was wrong and the other waiter stopped by and said he was also the bartender. I told him I ordered a dry martini and got a lemon drop. He said he would fix it. Then he said " so you want it dry with extra vermouth?" How do you get to be a bartender and think "dry" means extra vermouth? They brought our shrimp app, but nobody would take our entree order. Finally, we stopped one of them to order our entrees. I ordered the She-Crab soup and an entree. Within 2 minutes they brought our entree, but I never got the She-crab Soup. Unfortunately our time at Oceanic was fairly miserable. I've been two years ago so I understand all of the 5 Star ratings, but I think the restaurant has gone downhill. After waiting 2 hours for a table, we ordered drinks and appetizers. The appetizers came before the drinks and we could tell the drinks had been sitting since they tasted watered down from the ice. Next we ordered the specials and if we wanted over-cooked, rock-hard, stale fish we could've ordered it better from Captains D's. No way were those dishes worth $32. In addition, the meal came with rice yet they must've run out because they replaced the side with French fries without asking us first. Again, if we wanted bad fish and french fries, then fast food would've been our first choice. Despite all of the negativity, our server did go above and beyond. Our server informed us, three workers walked out that night and he apologized profusely. We understand it was not his fault but if a restaurant is not operating to the best it can then might as well close for the night because we had an awful experience. read more

For starters the renovations look great, we walked in & the atmosphere is of course "beachy" and casual. Very busy & the crowd can be a bit pretentious mixed with pleasant people. We were quoted 45-60 minutes wait for our table (2 people and a baby). The hostess entered my phone number incorrectly, so after waiting an additional 30 minutes on being quoted 45-60 minutes for our table- I was pretty pissed. They said they alerted my phone while we sat right in the front of them. I mean come on, pay more attention.. no one else was even sitting around us in the wait area after it cleared out. We got seated & our server Hannah was SO sweet & attentive! Flies were EVERYWHERE though.. food was good. We split the tuna poke, Wrightsville salad, fresh market catch, & the crab cake salmon. I've been bringing my family, friends, and business clients here for years. I've been back twice since the Oceanic reopened after repairs from the hurricane, and what a disappointment it has been. Clearly the chefs and staff that made this place wonderful have moved on. Our most recent experience was this past Sunday and it was dreadful. Everything took forever. Ordered the crab dip that didn't come until after the lukewarm meals were finally served. The entree order was also messed up twice. Besides being cold, the food quality was, at best, 1 star. The shrimp and grits were more like soupy oatmeal. The shrimp scampi tasteless. The seafood linguini like a bowl of sea water with floating dead crustaceans. Then the appetizer came out cold and crusty, and the bread so drowned in butter it was inedible. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the manager did come by, apologized for the multiple errors and comped the inedible crab dip and the meal for my visiting friend that finally came after everyone else had finished. This place has a lot of work to do to get back to the charming gem on the beach that it used to be; one that I loved to show off to friends and clients. read more

Came to this place on recommendation of a friend of ours as we are traveling in from a different state. We got there right at 10 for Sunday brunch. They don't take reservations, but 10a.m. is a great time. Parked right away, were seated right by the windows with a spectacular view overlooking the ocean. Courtney took the time to explain the brunch menu, even brought the lunch and dinner menus and explained what we could have off of any of them since it was our first time there. We had complimentary hushpuppies and mini blueberry muffins. Samples of both soups to see if we would like them with our meals and the manager and Courtney both offered to take our group's picture at one point. Courtney was quick to notice one of the plates wasn't clean and one of the rolls of flatware also wasn't clean and replaced them right away. She checked in with us quite a few times to make sure things were o.k. We ended up ordering the shrimp and grits (amazing!!!), the deluxe scramble (spouse would prefer bacon to be crispy in this) and our son got the spinach, tomatoes and chavre quiche. I had the shrimp stuffed with the crab, the crab dip and the tomato and olive salad (I can't quite remember the name of the dish). I love the fact that the restaurant is on the beach. Honestly. I came here today with already low expectations. I have a gluten allergy and knew I wasn't going to have many options. However, the experience as a whole was just a mess. We got seated and waited for almost 20 minutes for a server to even greet us. A nice guy really, but was too busy talking to a hostess in the front to really give good service. Finally, he realized we existed and came to our table. I asked if he had a gluten free menu "by chance" and he quickly said "no" and laughed, as if my allergy is a joke. (?) I wanted to leave from that moment but we were on a time crunch and wanted to eat here as we had waited long enough already. I asked him what were some gluten friendly options as I heard from a website they did offer some gf available items. He was short and stout with me, and told me wasn't sure what I meant and that "maybe something simple would accommodate my diet". Then offered a salad that I knew wasn't gluten free, and said he "didn't know what to say about that." Like what? It's kind of a servers job to know these things. I ordered a fruit cup and house fries to be safe. No big deal. He went back to giving batty eyes to the hostess, and she obviously wasn't enjoying it. (Take a hint, my dude!) Our food came a good but after that, and my fruit cup literally had batter drippings in the plate. Not to mention, they charge 4$ for two strawberries and half rotten blueberries. House fries were a greasy mess. Our drinks were empty most of the time. I was on vacation and didn't want to complain much, but this was insane! I felt unwelcome and wasn't treated like a guest, then we had contaminated food and I felt like I could complete my degree, get married, and fulfill my 401k before even getting my check! Will not be going back, and do not suggest this place for anyone gluten free or anyone with an iron stomach for that matter. Overpriced and not worth the wait. It was our first time back to Oceanic since last summer the new remodel is very nice. The server was very busy we were one of 3 or 4 tables seated at the same time but she did well under the circumstances. After we received two iced teas my wife ordered the Carolina crab cake sandwich minus the brioche bun and I ordered fish tacos but requested the fish blackened bc I'm not a fan of deep fried fish. The Carolina Crab Cake looked good but tasted like someone added yellow curry powder to it which ruined what use to be an amazing crab cake. The fish taco was just average at best it barely had any blackening spice on it and the toppings were so so. Overall the atmosphere is great the staff are friendly & efficient the food just so so.
