Dined here a couple weeks ago. Wanted to update. Wonderful location on the beach. Parking can be chaotic if full. First impression- young staff, young girls working hostess stand. Confused on where to seat us. Stood there for 15 minutes while they got their act together. Tempted to walk out due to the confusion. Issues: She crab soup has changed since the last time I was there. Couple other complaints- along with the fishy, smelly flounder. The fried shrimp were very small. Popcorn shrimp size. For a waterfront location, I expected fresh, nice seafood. The only positives were our server, Eric, who was outstanding. We weren't sure which bottle of wine to choose & he made some suggestions based on our meal. We enjoyed a "surf & turf special" not on the menu (it was a 14oz Strip & fries & he added a crab cake) it was phenomenal. My wife got the tile fish. He recommended the crab butter on top as it paired well with the flavor profile of the fish & my gosh it did not disappoint. We ended our meal with a key lime pie & crème brûlée & two espresso martinis. Great meal depending what you get. I only wish my kids flounder & shrimp could have been better. Manager stopped by & we informed him about the smell seafood but he did nothing about. Not even a replacement meal for my kids. He apologized & said they get their seafood in weekly. Weekly? That's disgusting for a waterfront seafood restaurant with seafood markets everywhere. read more

They might have updated the place and it looks nice but the food is still god awful... out of 10 people in our party everything from the starters to our entrees was terrible. The fact that we spent over $400 in food and drinks last night makes me almost as sick as the food did. It's not the servers and bartenders fault so we still tipped 20% and our waiter was great and everything came out in a timely manner. How hard is it for them put out semi decent food no wonder hardly anyone in our party had ever been there... there is a reason why this place gets no support from us locals. read more

Sigh* I wish I could say I had a good experience here. First I will say the new update is absolutely stunning the inside was great.! The service was good our waitress was great.! Alot of new servers being trained which my husband and I loved seeing. Their outfits were very cute as well.! The food... I ordered the WB chicken salad, husband grouper and one kids meal. I know it's their first couple of weeks but it was disappointing as it costs us just about $100 for two meals, 2 drinks each and a kids meal. Made me a bit sad Bc I had really high hopes. I don't mind paying a lot for great food and portions. The portions were small and my salad had mostly romaine in it w a few strips of chicken...very little pecans, canned mandarin oranges and craisins..:( The view here is stunning... which is what you pay for... but the pier isn't open to walk on yet.. so blah. read more

Great spot with tons of seating. Perfect for large parties if you want to enjoy outdoor seating on the deck. The deck seating connects to the pier but there's a separate walkway for non patrons. Fun drink menu and your standard seafood options. I got the crab cake which didn't disappoint. Highly recommend the spritz cocktail. It was delicious. Overall the food was good, the service was great, and the ambience was great. Would recommend! read more

Wow!! AMAZING WATER FRONT RESTAURANT! The remodel is absolutely amazing. Almost feels like I'm in California- very light airy tones and textures! Plus the food is always to die for! The Oceanic has been my favorite restaurant for quite a number of years! It would not have been unusual for my husband and me to drive down two hours just for dinner and return home in one evening? Sadly, now the entire charm and ambience of this restaurant is changed. It is open with seemingly no style in mind. Before the last renovation, it was a wonderful place to dine - not only for the setting inside and out, but the food. Now, the menu has been pared down to foods unbecoming the previous offerings! Particularly missing, the stuffed shrimp, which I enjoyed EVERY TIME we came, without exception! It was so good, no side items were necessary! My husband literally got a kick out of my expression when I took my first bite! Now...off the menu! This place is crying to return to its former self! Won't someone help?! read more

I have not been here a n several years but I had always enjoyed it in the past. The staff is friendly and on top of things. The time from order to food arriving to table is reasonable. The restaurant is clean and well Kristin and has been remodeled since I was there last( the upstairs is being remodeled and will open this week. I am giving them only 3 stars because there lunch menu is very limited. They use to offer shrimp and fish baskets at a good price but now other then a shrimp pizza-boy you would need to order a seafood platter which is just to much food for lunch and I'm wasn't looking to spend over 20.00$ in it. I had the jerk chicken sandwich that was really good. My mother had the gumbo which she said was the worst she has ever had. ( she said you couldn't do worse with canned gumbo) Overall nice place. We were very disappointed by this place. It's so popular as evidenced by lack of parking and hordes of people but it can't be due to the food and hospitality. The good thing about the restaurant is that it was clean and location was excellent. I mean, you're right on the beach, can't beat that. However, everything else was lacking or poorly executed. The waitress was pleasant but not attentive. We were seated inside and it was very cold with cold air blowing on us. Even my teenage sons complained. I mentioned it to the waitress and she said she'd tell the manager. I'm not sure if she did or not as we couldn't discern any change and she never provided an update. The portions were pretty small for the price and actually, there weren't a lot of choices on the menu. Overall, a very disappointing experience and not one we will repeat. read more

Great hours and helpful staff. We arrived late, but well within their hours and got lots of care. Thsi is a large tourist oriented restaurant. Not gourmet, but good food. The weekend of Labor Day I was excited to introduce my sister and her boyfriend to the Oceanic and changes. The interior change was on point! The menu left out items, that I could not consume. However it was brunch time. The detour was the cost of the base mimosa for us. Majority other locations charge $3 to $5 for a Sunday brunch mimosa. But I was charged $9 a piece. Which we all ordered doubles after seeing the pour! I paid BC I am local, but with as much competition as there is in the area, revamping costs of things! read more

Atmosphere rules. Service was good. Efficient and friendly. Menu is limited. I assume that is due to the pandemic. Food is okay. You'll go back for the atmosphere more than the food. If you're interested, everyone working there is wearing a mask. You have to wear a mask and social distance per their rules. The tables are well spaced out if you eat inside. Outside was closed due to the weather today but they usually have quite a large space outdoors. read more

Our first time to Wrightsville Beach and the Oceanic was recommended. It is located on a pier, so the views of the ocean were amazing. It was the 4th of July weekend, so the wait was very long. We chose instead to eat at the bar and were not disappointed in the bartender's attentiveness to our cocktail selections. The food, however, lacked any real imagination and freshness. We have loved the Oceanic since moving here. Since re opening after Florence we have visited twice, and both times the food and service has been perfect! The staff is super friendly and the ocean setting is like paradise. We were a party of 7 Sunday night and sat on the pier. (I had the shrimp and grits; it was to die for). We went for lunch over the weekend when it was a bit too chilly to sit outside. This was our first time there without it being a beautiful day to enjoy the beach atmosphere and view. We sat inside so there were no distractions from the actual dining experience. Well, we first noticed was that the appetizers and entrées all came out at the same time. One of the kids meals was missing. The fish tacos were absolutely horrible - Costco quality tortillas that did not taste fresh, the fish was shaped like perfect rectangles that were obviously frozen and most likely from Thailand. The expensive wedge salad came out with no blue cheese crumble, bacon, or blue cheeses dressing. Just a wedge of lettuce and a spicy sauce/dressing on the side. Not sure how that made it out of the kitchen. The waiter was super nice and blamed everything on the kitchen. He brought us a free Key lime pie, which I can definitely blame on the kitchen as it appears, they deferred to Costco again. The food was absolutely horrible but on a nice day you're paying for the location. I don't recommend going there when the weather is not perfect. read more

Racism at its best. I, truly, am appalled at the service we received tonight in 2022. Our party politely asked to be seated facing the ocean for a better view but to no avail. We were told that they were expecting a large crowd, and we couldn't move. However, we watched two additional groups come in and one requested to be moved. The request was immediately honored without hesitation or reservation. We called the manager. He offered his apologies and said he could take the cost of the appetizers off the bill. Another man of European descent even challenged the manager but nothing changed. That stranger said he felt badly for us. We had a wonderful visit on a beautiful day. We sat outside, had friendly service by all of theservers in the area. Food was great, highly recommended the shrimp tacos and the calamari was really good as well if you like fried peppers which are mixed in. We had a nice walk on the pier after dinner. Reviews on here are all over the place, but we can tell you that tonight's visit was 5 star all the way. Server Kaylee was very knowledgeable and her recommendations were spot on. Carolina Crab Dip is like food crack! Shrimp & Grits excellent as well as the Stuffed Salmon. Good bar menu with local beers. Finished off with Key Lime Pie. Our recommendations would be to be patient parking. Beach goers totally ignore the no parking signs. And, if dining outside, don't worry about fixing your hair ladies.
