Amazing food! Amazing setting on the pier! Could be a romantic evening or a fun beach lunch.

We have been to this restaurant numerous times to enjoy the ocean view, despite the mediocre food. But our most recent visit jumped the shark. The mixed drinks are so watered down that I would be willing to bet that they contained no alcohol at all. The calamari was passable but mostly breading. The chef salad was bland with chicken that was obviously cooked hours, if not a day, before. The Ranch salad dressing was unrecognizable and tasteless. I would no longer recommend this restaurant even for a drink unless you order beer or wine in a bottle that they open at your table. The wait staff is very friendly and deserve a more supportive kitchen and bar. read more

My wife and daughter and I ate at Oceanic "south" today. While the food was decent, the atmosphere was atrocious. Is this a restaurant or a pigeon sanctuary? Do not go here unless you enjoy birds flocking around your table and jumping on the nearest departed table after each diner leaves. Did I mention the bird droppings onto my shirt from the rafters? I felt bad for the wait staff who had to constantly shoo birds off of diners tables. This place needs to either close or build enclosed windows to ensure a clean, hygienic food service offering. We were surprised that after reopening with a wonderful, casual atmosphere that the food had gone so downhill. Maybe it was a "bad night for the chef" on a beautiful Saturday evening in July, but as locals, bringing guests to our gorgeous beaches, it was a major disappointment. We came at the end of July, on a Tuesday evening. We were told there'd be an hour wait, but instead, quickly snagged a high-top table which was first-come, first-serve (and it was super busy!!). We were waited on quick and the food was out within 10mins!! The food was delicious (she-crab soup & seafood gumbo, pick 3 platter--big enough for 2 ppl to share)! Carmen (our waitress) had a cheerful personality, was kind and extremely attentive (all while bartending & despite a packed restaurant. She was an excellent server! I was visiting from out of town and came here to eat on a special occasion (my birthday 7/21) and was completely NOT impressed at all! First off, our server seemed new(which is fine bc I work in the food industry so I know how newbies can be) however, he had no idea what hospitality meant at all! We ordered drinks and waited about 15-20 minutes to receive them. He said he forgot about them and that they were being re made. He should of taken that off the bill immediately after saying that first off. Secondly, I ordered Gumbo and on the menu(in black & white) it said it came with rice. I'm from New Orleans so any gumbo I've ever had has came with rice! When it was brought out, without the rice, I asked him where it was. He said that it didn't come with it and apologized. So a few minutes later when he returned to ask how our meal was, I showed him on the menu that it DOES come with rice. He said that it didn't and it must of been in the gumbo itself. LMAO. I then showed him the gumbo and clearly he could see for himself that it wasn't "in" the gumbo. He SHOULD of went into the kitchen and asked for a side of rice or again, take it off my bill instead of apologizing 50 times!! The ladies next to us were completely dissatisfied with him and their meal as well. The server did get a manager for them to speak with. I will not recommend nor ever be back here bc the service was horrible! Educate your servers on what to do in these situations so that you can be a 5 star restaurant! read more

If you are at the beach and you don't come for a drink or food you are missing out. The staff is super, the food is on point and the drinks flow. Prices are great for being on the water. If the judgement is on clean restrooms and atmosphere this is the place for you. The day we went it was sudden thunderstorms. They handle it with grace and few were wet. Slow to seat (as expected based on location) but food comes out quick. They have a bar along the pier to take drinks out while you wait. View from outdoors is sometimes clogged so indoor seating might be better especially if you can get up on the second floor. Sunshine shrimp app was really good. Catch of the day was good (sea bass). Shrimp and grits was delicious but super rich and couldn't eat more than a few bites, so I'd go for something different if I came back. Service was good. read more

I love this restaurant and I have ordered the gumbo several times And it has been very tasty. I ordered soup late in the day so maybe this is why the portion was so small.....I found one shrimp, two dime sized pieces of fish and one okra. I talked to the waitress and she said maybe the small portion is due to it being an appetizer. Soup is not an appetizer. If it is the end of the day and you don't have enough soup....don't serve it. I am sure I didn't get a piece of bread or crackers because these would have made the bowl of soup look even smaller. Also, the waitress should have apologized and took it off my bill.....that's how you keep locals. read more

Location location location! I was really trying to steer my boyfriend away from this place because I was reading the reviews that weren't great but I'm really glad we came here and I'm so happy to give you guys a good review! Ask to sit outside! You have to be in person to make a reservation but that's fine, bring a bottle of wine and a blanket to sit on the beach and wait!!!...... the boyfriend and I got crab dip as an appetizer which was by far our favorite all vacation, it comes with bread and is just so creamy and the perfect consistency...... for drinks I got the shell diver it was okay, I really like eddys vodka but it didn't have too much of a flare. My boyfriend got their frozen cocktail and it's the perfect beach cocktail, I would recommend this!.... Our waiter Esteban was the most friendly and polite waiter, he was very busy but he made sure we had everything, checked up on us and made us smile! Great job!.... the shrimp and grits was perfect, so many shrimp! I got the crab stuffed salmon and it's a pretty huge portion, I was also impressed with how Good the rice was cooked. Not only are the views of the ocean great, but so isn't the food! We enjoyed dinner here last night and had such a nice and attentive server...I believe her name was Emmy or Emily. My fiancé and I had dinner here on a Tuesday night after multiple other restaurants turned us away. We asked for a seat outside and they said it was a 15 minute wait, so we sat at the bar. The bartender was perfectly nice and started us with drinks and an appetizer. We moved to the outside deck with our wine and appetizer because our table was ready early and after a little bit of miscommunication we simply just asked if a server was informed we had moved outside, and they were not. After that they were very attentive! Kylie was our server and she was awesome. The food was very good, needed a little salt and pepper but the ambiance and service and wine made up for everything. Okay this is a long time coming and I must say I haven't been since the new renovation and hopefully management and kitchen changes, But in the past my job was to recommend great restaurants to very influential out-of-towners and i did just that twice and both times my clients not only felt the food and service was horrible but both times someone in the party got sick. So I went back and ate myself to see what was going on and they were right. Food was subpar and I also got sick. I don't know what was the culprit but it's such a shame the best location to have a restaurant kept falling way short. I no Longer send clients here, unless they just want drinks. I have had conversations about this with management and have expressed How I don't know what's going on in the kitchen but don't trust them to send people back. But like I said in the beginning of this post. Maybe, and hopefully, now things are different after the renovations and new changes. I want to see it do well and want to trust them to send clients there but time will tell. read more

First, I'm very happy to see this WB institution back in business. Unfortunately, it's a completely different restaurant now, excepting in name. Love the new space and the expanded bar although, I secretly miss the small and always crowded old bar. Ok, the menu. Gotta say, the current menu options made me think I could have been looking at the menu from ANYWHERE in the Eastern US. Nothing uniquely Carolina about the menu. This makes me sad. Limited offerings, pretty basic except for a few items that seem to be reworks from a (former?) sister restaurant? I get it, new is new. The she crab soup base was so thick my spoon could stand on it's own. Could have used more actual crab and the sherry wasn't mixed in well as I kept getting pockets of strong sherry flavor. Perhaps due to the thick base? I ordered my oysters and flounder broiled (off menu request) however the presentation was unappetizing to say the least. The flavor of the oysters were good, nicely seasoned but no butter or lemon in the finish? Adding both would elevate the dish. The piece of flounder was smaller than expected, decent flavor if somewhat flat. Fried clam strips were meh, nothing special. If cooked to order (as said on the menu) why not add more spices/herbs to the batter? Otherwise, these strips could have come from any food court. And now, the service. Full disclosure, this was the first night open in about 9 months aside from a few training runs. I get it, new staff, new Management, new vibe. But duude, out of scallops? But I digress. Wait staff seemed to be working hard to get "it" right. They'll get there (?). Service: 3 folks in our party. 1 person's dinner was delivered to table a full 15 mins before the other 2. Why? After 5 mins or so we couldn't find our server. We were making allowances given it was night 1 of full opening so didn't make a huge deal out of it. After 15 mins still no food, no waiter, nothing. Finally a floor manager who was setting a table behind me noticed me shaking my head and FINALLY asked. I explained the situation and...food came out. About 25 mins after 1st dish was delivered to table. No offer of comps, no "hey, we'd like to make this up to you" , nothing. Yes, we could have asked however I wanted to see how the Management handled the situation. Well, they didn't, IMO. Did I mention the server brought gumbo (missing the rice, btw) instead of the she crab soup and then challenged me when I called him back to say it wasn't she crab soup? Sigh. I really want to like the new Oceanic. And yes, I'm good w a new menu but DANG! Does the new Oceanic really aspire to be just any old seafood-type restaurant that could just as well be located in say Greensboro? Advice to Management: search your souls, what do you want oceanic to be? Figure it out. Own it, make the FOOD the centerpiece, the view needs no help so don't rely on that alone to elevate this dining experience. I'll give you 6 months and then no more...best of luck. read more

Very pleasant surprise. Gorgeous location and ocean view surpassed only by the shrimp scampi and crab cakes. The grits are absolutely deadly but at least you'll go with a big smile on your face. We were a little nervous to eat during COVID, but this restaurant has such a big outdoor space with the most beautiful view, that it made us feel much more comfortable. There was always a breeze during the meal, and the tables were spaced apart nicely. Wait staff all had masks on at all times. As far as food, start off with the crab dip!!!
