Oceano was outstanding. I would describe Oceano as upscale, yet warm and comfortable. The owner met us at the door and greeted us with the most genuine smile which made us feel at home instantly. The wait staff was super friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and was able to offer recommendations based on our likes. The seafood was amazing. I'm super late in writing this review but I visited here in August 2023. The restaurant from outside to inside is a very nice ambiance and entrance. I was greeted and sat and introduced by my server, was very knowledgeable about the menu selections and was able to answer my questions about the dishes and what he had personally enjoyed. This was my first time here so I didn't know too much about what favs were or what food items consisted of. I ended up getting the Brazino and oh my gosh, it was so good and favorable! The roasted potatoes and tomatoes in the bed of dish were good too! The bones are something to pick through but I didn't mind bc I had no other place to be. For dessert, I got the tres leches and this too was my first time having it. I'm not a big fan of moist cakes but the server was so convincing so why not?! It did not disappoint. Even the berry dressing for the dish was good. 10/10. Please go and visit! read more

First visit, Birthday Dinner, was so excited to try this place. Such a huge disappointment. We had a 6pm reservation. I told them when making the reservation that this was for a birthday (thinking they might do something special) We were seated, all the candles on the tables were lit EXCEPT ours. So i didn't say anything just waiting to see if our hostess or our waiter would notice and either light it or exchange it for another one that worked. Didn't happen so i got up and changed it myself. We had to ask for bread seeing that the other 3 tables all had bread. We ordered Ceasar Salad ... OMG im a Ceasar Salad pro, they used wilted floppy regular lettuce that was not fresh and had no crisp what so ever, so my whole salad was a limp bowl of soggy lettuce. The grilled Cauliflower salad was simply a regular tossed salad with some pieces of cauliflower added. I ordered Paella (44.00!!!). I lived in Spain and I can tell you that this is NOT Paella. This is "quick and easy Paella, yellow rice, chunks of sausage, pieces of chicken, shrimp and octopus. When I say this is cheap Paella I support this by saying that real Paella takes about an hour to properly cook. Our reservations were 6pm and we were done and leaving at 6:40 pm !!! So not real Paella and most certainly not worth 44.00 !!! My spouse got the Shrimp and Grits . I cook New Orleans Shrimp n Grits at home all the time and it does not have Spinach. While I appreciate various recipes, if you are going to put Spinach in a dish like this, At least cut off the stems. The bowl was full of Spinach stems. Our waiter was nice but I have to say, If you are going to charge 44.00 entree's then the staff needs to seriously upgrade their service and their attire. All of these staff members were 20 year olds and as I watched, none of them saw to their customers without having to be asked to do so. So bottom line, this is a restaurant trying to be high end, without the ability to do so. When you come in for a nice $$$ dinner and you walk out 40 minutes later,,,,,,,,,,,something needs to change. I don't think the owner looks at their restaurant objectively or in the eyes of their patrons. I am in the high end customer service industry and THIS is not it unfortunately. Well first of all restaurant is pretty. The make over was very well done. We had a table by a window and it was great. Our server was very good. We were celebrating our anniversary and they made sure to acknowledge it. Now on to food. We had the miso fritta. It was served hot. The shrimp were great. The calamari was crispy. Maybe a little to crispy and they should work on a better dipping sauce. For dinner we shared the paella. Served hot in the pan. It was very tasty with s lot of flavor. Lots of garlic. Certainly enough for 2 people to share. However could have used more chicken and seafood. For dessert they only had one thing. So recommend getting a few more choices. Also they had no tea bags for a cup of hot tea Overall good restaurant and we probably will be back. read more

This is the best restaurant in Midlothian without question. My husband and I love that we have a place to go without having to drive into the city for a delicious meal. Everything is really fresh and well seasoned. I will note that it's not a quick dining experience, but that's because they truly want you to enjoy the experience, socialize with your guest, and not rush. We had a 7:30 reservation and we were seated upon arrival, we were a party of 6, Drinks and Appetizers came out quickly, entrees as well - service was great, we were done eating in about 65 min, which is record time for this crew. 4 ordered the Filet, 2 the Risotto and 1 the Salmon. The Salmon was good, Risotto was also good, but nothing to write home about, but the Filet's were rather disappointing, including the Chipotle Mash. Those that ordered the Filet's wondered if perhaps they should have stuck with seafood. The cuts of meat were meh, and the medium rare was more medium well to well done. read more

Went for dinner Saturday evening. Party of three with reservations at 6:30. Seated immediately. The servers and assistant servers were young but very good and attentive. Did family style with petit seafood plateau, empanadas and paella. All were excellent. The oysters on the plateau were great quality. Outstanding Paella and the empanadas were light and delicious. The bread is amazing as well. One of the better meals and better best service we have had in awhile. We are out of town (Atlanta) . Nice touch that the chef came table to table. Just had a delicious dinner at Oceano in midlothian. The food was excellent and the service was very good. The music, however, was absolutely a buzz kill! A loud constant faux drum backbeat that continued the entire time. No melody just monotonous thumping and the lights are way too bright. Sort of the atmosphere of a fast food restaurant but with really good food. We were hoping to have a good upscale restaurant in our area and this could be the one if they would work on their ambiance a bit more. The music was really headache inducing. read more

We were seated at 439pm and there was only one other table occupied 452pm no one came to to our table with water drinks nothings. They seated two other tables told them the specials and took drinks orders. The only thing different was we were of color. We initially planned to head downtown for a date night and made a last minute decision to try Oceano closer to home. We are so glad we did! The food was amazing, and our server was knowledgeable and attentive. We sat outside on the patio, which was relaxing even with it being close to 60. First and most likely last visit. Some food was pretty good while some of the dishes were pretty terrible. Service was non existent. After we were seated it took about 15 minutes until our server came to our table. At this time we ordered drinks and mentioned we would get a bottle of wine with dinner and after the cocktails. A long while later our server brought us our drinks and we also ordered dinner. This would actually be the last time our server came to our table until I had my card out and ready to pay. We got to hear the evenings food specials from a different server at the table next to us, we were never told any specials and this was after we had already ordered. Someone else brought us our food, the calamari was extremely overcooked and basically not edible. We saw our server at tables around us but he did not once come back to check on anything. We ran out of water fairly quickly which was never refilled. We were never able to order wine. This was probably the worst service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. read more

I had dinner at Oceano about a month ago and have vassilated on whether to post a review or not. The atmosphere was fine but I just expected more from both the food and the service from the reviews. I started off with the burrata which I thought was quite good with a nice size portion of the burrata. The problem with my salad is that my salad came about 20 minutes after my friends shrimp app & cauliflower salad arrived (her salad exceptionally good). My burrata arrived but then 3 (exactly 3 minutes later), my octopus arrived. I had asked the waiter not to put the tapenade on the plate as I don't like olives at all but he said it just a small amount and off to the side. Well, when it arrived there was a large amount of the tapenade on the plate touching all of my roasted veggies and some of my octopus. I never touched the veggies and ate about half of the octopus as it was overly charred, dry and tough. I let my dining partner try close to half of it as they had never tried octopus before. I don't think any were impressed with it. One of my pet peeves is that food isn't brought out close to the same time when dining with others. Lastly, the bronzino fish arrived (with the tapenade again). It was ok...not great, but ok. My friend ordered the filet medium rare and that came close to medium well. Neither of us complained (other than me asking where my salad was after my friend was done with her shrimp app and cauliflower salad before I got any food at all) and he apologized saying that it was just really busy. I so wanted to love Oceano but when you factor in the price vs the food/service I think I will go elsewhere where you may get "more bang for your buck." Excellent food, ambience, and service! Everything was on point from the roasted cauliflower appetizer, the rockfish, and the spicy seafood pasta. You must try their version of crab bisque, it was superb! The chef even checked with us to see how we would like the rockfish cooked. When I called to make reservations a few weeks ago, for dinner last evening. I said it was a special occasion for my son's 30th birthday and I had read excellent reviews and the woman who answered the phone (I'm sorry I did not get her name) told me that it would be memorable. It was, but probably not for reasons either one of us had anticipated. We don't get out much -- my husband has gastric cancer and I have a broken leg -- but we really wanted this to be special for our son and his girl friend who took the train down from Manhattan. A woman took our reservation and another gentleman came over and said I did not have a reservation even though I had reservations and received text messages through Resy. After about 10 minutes of him saying that we weren't on the list, the woman who originally greeted us at the hostess stand, said she already checked us in. Awkward. Then they seated us. Took our drink orders. My husband ordered a Pinot Grigio and she brought him a Pinot Noir. We asked if she would please bring the correct wine and she said, "I'm sorry. I just heard Pinot." Then we ordered several small plates and we asked for fried oysters and we were given raw oysters. At this, I mentioned that I was a little less than enthusiastic about our experience and she told me (Sol and I apologize for the spelling,) "It was an honest mistake." Wow. What do you say to that? And then another woman came over to remove plates from the food we ate while waiting for the other correctly ordered plate to arrive and proceeded to drop all the silverware on the floor next to us. Dinner was fine. If there were any specials, they were not offered to us. We also did not have a waiter or waitress specific to our table. We had three people coming over haphazardly -- one being the bartender. Water glasses were filled once. They thanked us for our patience for the very long wait between ordering an additional glass of wine which came with dessert. We ordered two desserts and coffee. When asked if we wanted cream and sugar, we said sugar. The coffee arrived with no cream --no sugar --nada. So, finally flagging someone down to get sugar, we just couldn't wait to get out of there. I spent over $200 for a special evening which was not special. No mention of my son's birthday. We seriously couldn't wait to get out of there and I've never felt that way even at a Burger King. Someone came up to my husband when he was paying the bill and said, "We are usually not open on Sundays and we're short-staffed." Perhaps somebody should've said that to me when I made the arrangements. They should have said, perhaps you'd like to go somewhere else because you will not be made to feel welcome on arrival, the service is going to be horrible, you will have three or four different people waiting at your table -- two who are not waitstaff, nobody will be able to communicate, you will get the wrong drink orders and the wrong food orders and we won't care. We would've gone elsewhere. I have gotten better service and an incredible meal at the diner around the corner. I was so disappointed. This dining experience did not meet our expectations. We will never come back. I have never written a poor review before. But then I have never been treated in such a manner before. read more

I made reservations for Saturday night dinner for myself and an out of town guest. I was impressed with the pictures of the restaurant and food on Yelp. I also like to support new businesses. First the wait person, she was very in your face, loud and boisterous. She did help my guest find a nice Malbec, I ordered a vodka martini with specific directions on how to make it. The bartender did not come and tell me she did not know how to craft a classic vodka martini, she simply threw together some ingredients and poured them into a champagne glass. The food. We decided to order two small plates which were two different salads, and were pleased with both the cauliflower salad and the kale and quinoa. For the the main event, we decided to share Paella. Except for the deft handling of the seafood, there was nothing to recommend this dish. No socarrat, the wonderful crispy, caramelized rice bits which develop as a Paella cooks slowly. Diners should know that they wait on Paella, not the other way around. The coffee was truly wonderful, loved every sip. We shared a piece of key lime cheese cake - very nice. My advice, slow everything down. Educate your bartender, explain that people need to be prepared to wait for the Paella or order something else. Take your time. read more

Living right around the corner we had been awaiting the opening of Oceano so we decided to celebrate our anniversary there last night. Such a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. It was a great surprise to be greeted by Stephanie, who we have known for years through other restaurants in the area. The cocktails are well balanced with fresh ingredients. The MamaMia and Bourbon Thyme were delicious. Micah, our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. We decided to get a bottle of wine and several small plates for our meal. Another wonderful surprise when Shawn, the somm, arrived at our table to discuss wine options as we have known him as well through the years. Every bite of food was delectable. You can taste the attentiveness to flavor in every detail. The charred polpo (octopus) was fork tender. The ceviche was the best I ever had. The portions are nice, the prices are well appointed. We each had dessert and the chocolate espresso martinis were amazing. We left satiated, and feeling like we were part of the family. Looking forward to many future meals. It is nice to have a restaurant in the area that elevates and innovates a dish to being something other than average. Presentation with care, and everything with an extra flare is appreciated.
