I ordered several screens and it took weeks longer than they said. I kept calling asking when they would be ready and no one in the store had a clue as to where my screens were. Apparently the screen maker is only in the store 1 day a week. The person who took the order did not measure 2 of my old screens properly. The width was 3/4 " short. Another screen for the bathroom was incorrectly measured as well. It was to be rectangle but was square when I picked it up. I even brought the old frames in for the correct measurement. I should have checked the order but assumed he knew what he was doing. Never assume anything. I will not shop there again. read more

It's a good thing we have a hardware store around the neighborhood again. I always choose local before having to drive farther, but they need to focus on ordering products that pertain to the older houses around the community it sits in. I've come to this store a couple times for a few reasons: close to home; help out a smaller hardware store and nostalgia (I used to work in one a long time ago). However, today I went to buy paint and that side of the store was a desert. I got the materials I needed and even after asking for help with the paint, no one came. I waited, waved my arms, nothing. If I had jumped behind the counter and mixed my own paint, I would have gotten attention much faster even though I know how to do it. I'll drive longer and deal with the crowds at bigger hardware stores, but as a former Ace Hardware store employee, I expect them to live up to their slogan. It's what I was expected to do. read more

What a difference! I went out of my way to find this Ace Hardware because I'd heard they carried a good selection of Traeger wood pellets. They did not disappoint and had an incredible variety. As pleased as I was to find exactly what I wanted, I was also introduced to all the reasons why I should visit this store going forward as opposed to the big box, mega stores where I did most of my shopping in the past. The staff at Ace is so friendly and knowledgeable. I really felt appreciated as a customer, I good feeling that I'm pretty sure I've never experienced at Lowe's or Home Depot. Where this Ace location is not the most convenient to my home, I definitely will make it a point drive the extra couple of miles out of my way for future hardware purchases. read more

Hands down the best hardware store ever! The staff are so knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. They always have what we need, from paint to plumbing to irrigation to power tools and everything else. Such a better experience than the big box stores. One time I needed a key made that HD couldn't get right after many attempts. The staff at Ace quickly identified the right blank and made new keys that work great. Their staff really know their stuff and provide great recommendations for how to address a problem. They go out of their way to explain options and how to address specific issues, which I really appreciate. Also love the wide array of gifts, decor, bbq's, beach gear, etc. They clearly pay attention to detail, quality, and service. Everything is top notch! I got berated by the store Owner's mother after parking their parking lot. It's 8:30am in the morning and I have to make my usual delivery to a building that shares the Ace Hardware parking lot. The entire lot is empty so I park in the spot closet to the building I'm supposed to deliver to. I make deliveries here regularly so I think nothing of it. After meeting with my customer, we both walk out to unload his package. I find a woman in a minivan in parked behind my truck. The customer explains that this is "her" spot. I look around and see no sign. I move my truck spot next to it and begin unloading the package. I figure maybe this is his boss so again think nothing of it. It's not until the woman exits her vehicle and begins berating us about parking in this lot. She threatens to have my vehicle towed unless I move it. I look around at the LITERALLY EMPTY parking lot and I am dumbfounded! It's 830 in the morning and this woman believed the best way to start the day is to have a power trip about a damn parking spot. After she scolds us like children, she smugly walks off. I found out from my customer that she is the Owner's mother and they own the lot. I went and talked the manager about it and at least he was cool. The staff inside seemed like chill people. Being a land owner or business owner does not give you the right to act like complete and utter rude, jerk. I work at automotive repair facility and we regularly shop at this location for smaller tools and knick knacks. We will be taking our business elsewhere and I will be encouraging others to do the same. read more

My husband and I went there to get toilet flapper and Gene showed us exactly where it was and the type that we should get. Also asked Gene about garbage disposal that we were having problems with and he gave us an old technique to fix it and it worked! Thank God for people like Gene who tries to help out and saved us money as well. Will come back for future needs for sure! read more

I go way out of my way to shop at this store, I want to support small businesses. All of the men who work there have always been helpful and nice. So I come back. But today I had to buy a garden hose, and I had 3 small clamps I had bought about a month ago that I needed to return. Since it's out of my way to go there, I had left them in my car in case I was in the area. So I walked in with the clamps and waited at the door for the woman at the register to notice I was bringing in a return. She finally looked my way and I told her I was bringing in a return but that I needed something else. She asked if I had the receipt and I said no, but I just needed an exchange. She asked me it I was a member of their rewards program and I said I didn't think so because I rarely join those, I don't like all the emails it generates. I left them with her and went to get my garden hose. When I got back she asked me for my phone number and it didn't come up. I asked if she could just give me a credit (they were about $3 each) towards my new purchase ($37). She said no. I told her that I was disappointed, that the return policy at Home Depot and Lowe's is more flexible, but that I shop at Ace to support small businesses. I told her that I was sure I bought them there, she could go look, or I could bring her another one, I knew exactly where they were. I asked if she could use my ATM card to find the purchase, but it didn't come up. I must have paid cash since it was a small purchase. My rating is low here not so much because of their policy (even though they should give credits on items that are clearly part of their inventory), but because she was a total bitch about it. She never smiled, she wasn't helpful, didn't suggest options, spoke down to me and acted like I was a problem. She shoved the clamps back at me, asked if I wanted the hose and I said yes. She rang it up, stopped and asked if I wanted to sign up for their rewards program. I said NO, I won't be back. I'm sad and disappointed because all the gentlemen who work there are really nice and I feel confident that they would have been NICE about it, or would have bent the policy to return the clamps. That woman has to go. She has ruined the homey feel and is just not a people person. read more

Another great trip to the O'Side ACE! They are always super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Great store that has everything I need for quick projects around the house. Today, I ran in to get some epoxy putty to fix a leak in my shower drain. The super helpful lady showed me exactly where it was and I was in and out in 2-3 minutes. This is a great place to get anything, or help finding anything. I really mean anything. Bike parts..fasteners..electric..plumbing..any hardware.... stuff you didn't even know you needed..and key fob batteries(and they had tools to install it!). I like all the hardware stores (hdepot..Lowes..) but Ace is more fun old- school local hware with helpful people to talk about projects and trucks ...plus it is really convienient... We're so happy that this store opened! I always dreaded having to run to Home Depot just for one can of spray paint, nails, etc. Now I can walk a few short minutes and grab what I need when something comes up. Great selection, they literally have a little bit of everything from hardware to cookware. Very friendly and helpful staff. They mix paint which is another huge plus for me. Very disappointed with my experience here. I came in to get 1 gallon of paint to finish painting a room in my home. I showed the woman the paint I had been using & she proceeded to mix up my gallon... she then let me know that they didn't have the Benjamin Moore paint that I had been using, so she was giving me a different brand. I was a little confused and in hindsight wish I would have spoken up more. She assured me that it's like "McDonald's and Burger King" and that "it's the exact same thing". Once I got home my Dad and I compared the paints and they were indeed NOT the same. Also, the paint that I had been using was $55 a gallon, this new paint the woman sold me was $30 a gallon. Definitely not the same quality or finish. Of course there's a neon sticker on the paint can stating 'non-refundable and non-exchangeable'. I will never visit this Ace Hardware again, very disappointed in this woman taking advantage of my lack of knowledge in the area- just for her to make her sale. She could have referred me to the Ace Hardware in Carlsbad that carries the paint I needed. read more
