After a fun rafting and cabin trip, my friends and I ended our weekend in Ocoee with a Sunday lunch at the Ocoee Dam Deli and Diner. The Ocoee Dam Deli and Diner serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast is only served until 11am, though, and we had just missed it. Like everything else in Ocoee it seems, the restaurant resembles a wooden cabin. Inside, there are all sorts of wildlife and outdoors-related decorations and artwork on the walls (e.g. a stag's head). There are also several TVs playing videos of various white water rafting adventures. The restaurant seemed to be fairly busy on our visit so service was slow, both in getting our orders in and in getting our food. The menu consisted of typical Southern cuisine. I opted for one of their "Blue Plate" specials, which is a traditional "meat and two" setup. My meat and two was fried catfish, cornbread dressing, and sweet potato casserole. Overall, the meal was OK. The fried catfish was quite thin and not very meaty. The breading was a little salty. The catfish very closely resembled the same catfish you can get at Piccadilly Cafeteria. Ocoee's version instantly reminded me of Piccadilly's version. Both the cornbread dressing and sweet potato casserole were tasty. The cornbread dressing was delicious, in fact. The sweet potato casserole had melted marshmallows on top. I also tried some of the sweet potato fries, which weren't bad. I'd still choose the casserole over the fries any day of the week. Our server was Brook and she was a nice gal. Great location for those coming out of the mountains or Parksville lake. Right on hwy 64 near Ocoee River bridge. This place has the look and feel for this area and very popular for those living near it. For this trip I had the Dam large BBQ,bacon, pineapple burger and it will go down as one of my Dam favorites. The place has a lot of history on the walls for decor. The fact that this Dam deli is near multiple dams on the Ocoee a River is just icing on the burger. Local eatery we like to patronize, but today we had a less than good experience. Waited 40 minutes for breakfast. Seems the cook was late . Food was good but asked for salsa to accompany my breakfast burrito and was charged $1.00 extra. Then discovered an extra fee for paying with a credit card. Decent restaurant for sandwiches or country "meat and sides" platters after a rafting trip on the Ocoee. The Ocoee Dam Deli is located off of Highway 64 about a mile away from the Ocoee River. The restaurant is named for the dams off the Ocoee River and proudly takes advantage of its slightly more profane homonym. There's a decently sized parking area in front of the restaurant. If you come here after a rafting trip, you should mention the rafting company to the waiter or waitress. Apparently the company will get brownie points or some other reward? Decor in the restaurant is cool. Service is a little less attentive than at the average restaurant. On the Menu: You can order sandwiches, burgers, wraps, and platters with meat and sides. There's a whole array of deli sandwiches, from pastrami to chicken salad to buffalo chicken and entrees with tilapia or catfish. Burger offerings are mostly traditional, but there are also blackened hamburgers, Hawaiian burgers, and mushroom swiss burgers on the menu. Platter options include roast beef, grilled chicken, chicken tenders, pulled pork, catfish, and chicken livers for the more adventurous. These platters come with sides that include mac and cheese, sweet potato fries, applesauce, buttered corn, and black-eyed peas. Sides can be replaced with a salad or a baked potato for a small surcharge. What I Tried: Grilled Catfish Platter with 2 Sides ($8.99) - I ordered the grilled catfish platter with fried okra and macaroni and cheese. A dinner roll is also served on the side. The catfish was very mildly seasoned. It was tender, though, and light. The macaroni and cheese is served in a white cheese - not too creamy and nothing extraordinary, but good. My fried okra was on par with fried okra at other restaurants - not overcooked or too salty. The dinner roll wasn't browned, but was an acceptable accompaniment to the rest of the plate. Portion size was sufficient for the price. Verdict: Nothing mind blowing here in terms of food, but it does the job of filling you up after an outdoor expedition on the Ocoee. The food is cheap and there are a lot of different options if you're in a group of picky eaters. At the very least, you'll get a good laugh on the number of puns they can use for the word "dam". read more

Can't get enough of the Dam Deli. Love every aspect of the place. From the moment you park with the chickens in the trees, till you leave you feel like home. The waiters are all extremely friendly & courteous. The atmosphere might seem a bit overwhelming if you're seated in the middle of the place bc it can get loud with so many ppl talking in such a small place but I find it warm & welcoming like home. This scratched that itch and then some, with lots of unique Southern entrees like Chicken Liver and Catfish, and many side options such as mac and cheese and mac and cheese. I don't know where to start! The hospitality from check-in to the service was excellent. I have lived 30-mins from the diner for years and just had the privilege of sitting down for a little brunch. I give this place two forks up as my wife and I loved our meal. We started of with the fried pickles and loved them. Disclaimer, these are pickle spears not chips. We ordered them then saw that after the waitress recommended them. The batter stayed on them and was cooked to perfection. On to the main meal, I had the cheeseburger add bacon. Simple but cooked great, I can't go on about a burger but it's great. My wife got the pot roast and it was awesome! It fell apart in my mouth, great gravy and her sides were good also. Since moving to Benton the food options have been extremely limited. However I stumbled across Dam Deli a few days ago. After two trips going there I must say I am thoroughly impressed. The price is extremely fair for what you get. The portions are giant, which was great for me. The first time I got country fried steak which came with 3 sides I got the fried okra the mashed potatoes and the sweet potato fries everything was flawless. And it was less than $12. (11.89 or something like that) My server Mary was absolutely excellent. The second time I came in I got the buffalo chicken wrap it was great. I also got the black berry cobbler. All my food was perfect and I can't wait to come back. I have now been in 3 times this time I elected to order the pot roast and the fried apple pie for desert. I think the Dam Deli would be good for even regular food, but the fact that they have some veggie options is even better. We arrived on a Sunday about 3:00pm, so not too crowded. Seated right away. Sort of country kitsch inside... but cute and clean. Servers were very friendly. Started with the fried green tomatoes and without the ranch dressing. They are happy to substitute other salad dressings or BBQ sauce. We ended up using the Chalula hot sauce as our vegan option. The fried green tomatoes were mostly very good. One was not cooked all the way, but otherwise they were flavorful. I ordered the black bean burger with no cheese or mayo. I asked for mustard. It was probably the best black bean burger I have had. Well cooked, crispy on the outside of the burger. I got regular fries with it and they were fine. Wife ordered the veggie wrap, hold the cheese. This was very good. Black bean crumbles and all sorts of veggies inside. The side dish of the day was white beans, which if you added some seasoning were good, otherwise they were bland. But salt, pepper, and a dash of the hot sauce and I was happy. Oh... the sweet tea. Indeed some of the best sweet tea ever... not to sweet, the taste of the tea comes across very well. Sweet server. The food took forever to come out. My catfish was good but my two sides were cold and my roll a little hard. The sides were good, just cold. My wife got the black bean burger and said it was good but her fries were cold. Another in our party had cold fries as well. All of our food must have been ready well before my daughters because her pasta was the only hot item on the entire table. Good food but I wouldn't rush back. The staff is friendly and we got to watch videos of folks making bloopers on the Ocoee on TV's. We did our first rafting trip on this side of town and had to stop and eat since rafting makes you famished. Growing up in Ocoee, we pretty much lived without any decent restaurants within a 15 mile radius - there was out-and-out giddiness when a Sonic and Hardee's opened up when I was a child, so you can imagine the scene. So just imagine how great it is to have such a gem as Ocoee Dam Deli within our reach now (of course it had to happen after I had moved three hours away, but at least there's a great place to go when I visit home). This place is ran by the nicest people and they have done a great job of creating a home-like environment for their patrons. While I don't really consider any of the food I've ever eaten there to be above and beyond my expectations, they are all very solid eats made with fresh ingredients - I believe they even raise & grow most of their ingredients themselves or get them from the local community. I particularly like the chicken fried chicken (who doesn't?) and their sweet potato dish. My family, including my brother who eats there at least once a week, loves their pot roast, wraps, breakfast offerings, and loves to go on Friday nights when their specialty is the fresh hand-breaded catfish. They also showcase local bluegrass bands on Saturday nights, so you can go and have an experience that you would be hard-pressed to get elsewhere -- a banjo serenade while you eat your vittles. I've never reviewed a restaurant before, but the food at this place was so terrible I just had to. Everything my family of four ordered was barely edible. All of the food was dried out and rubbery. Seemed like it had been under a heat lamp all day. I was tempted to send everything back and refuse to pay, but I didn't have it in me, since it's not the staff's fault. This restaurant had the worst service I have ever seen. Our waitress walked by our table 15 times before she said anything to us. A customer got there 45 minutes after we did and got their food first. The food was cold and they did not tell us that they did not have one of the sides we ordered until the food was already out. Awesome family owned local restaurant! The food was fantastic and fresh! I ordered the tilapia which was perfectly seasoned and came with 3 sides and a roll, so lots of food! My dad ordered the unlimited catfish which he loved, along with the 2 sides and hush puppies that came with it. Service was slow, and the servers were obviously rushing between tables, but maintained a friendly demeanor. Holy crap. Not sure what the best part of the meal was because it was all so Dam good. We had a party of eight so I got to see and taste a lot. The fried pickles were fantastic, the pimento bacon cheese fries were loaded and the mozzarella sticks were the best I've had in a long time. The Pimento cheese burger was big and amazing. The Rueben burger was huge and tasted like a dream. The meatloaf was some of the best meatloaf I've had. The coleslaw was great; usually coleslaw needs a lot of salt to taste good, but this coleslaw was seasoned perfectly when it arrived at the table.
