We have been coming to this dinner for some time now. And like everything else the cost has skyrocketed and the amount served is less than what it was. The food is tasty but, the pricing and amount of our check!!!! I don't know. Plus now, like most places I have to pay the 4% charge fee. When did we absorb their cost of doing business. It was at one time to cover the additional cost that had risen , but then they increased their prices anyway. Cookies are gone. Lollipops are gone. Pasta salad gone. And we had a $100 bill for two people. Not including tip. I don't know if it's worth the amount. And the waiter, did his job, but was sooo fast to move on, that you couldn't get a thought across. I came here with a guest for Easter Day dinner. Let's start with the service. We sat there for 15 minutes before anyone approached our table. The server was busy, but seemed completely preoccupied, and not at all present. . The bread basket was full of overcooked, stale, cold rolls. That was a treat. The so-called Manhattan clam chowder was very few specks of clam and potato in tomato soup. Not even a clam broth based chowder. The salad was large chunks of iceberg mixed with wilted greens and bitter cucumbers. The roast lamb was presented on a greasy plate with lamb broth dripping off the edges of the plate, and a small plastic cup of mint jelly floating in the cold broth broth. Absolutely disgusting presentation. When I confronted the manager, she apologized but made no compensations, except to say " The staff isn't very experienced." Then why are they working on a holiday?! I am so offended by the indifference of the staff, the piss poor presentation, and the manager's lame excuses. Good riddance Ocanee Diner. Friendly staff and short wait times which was a pleasant surprise. Lively decorations that really light the place up. The food was satisfactory nothing crazy. I've had better food elsewhere but this place is worth at least one trip. Prices for meals hover around the $20 mark. read more

Amazing Food, Endless Options, Friendly Service, Open Late, AWESOME Decor. {LATE NIGHT REVIEW} Last night was my second visit to Oconee (came once a few years ago after a long night out) and I'm disappointed in myself that I haven't been here more often. There aren't many options here in Suffolk County late night besides boring chain restaurants& fast food joints so the fact that this diner is open late & slings out awesome food is a real treat for Long Islanders. Also I saw at least 20 cops come in & out and if the cops eat here late night...it must be good! Located in a nice town right on Main St, it should be very easy to find coming from both the East or West. Plenty of parking. Service was top notch! Sometimes diner owners/managers are grumpy & unwelcoming but not here! I was greeted with a warm and welcoming hello and was seated immediately. My Waiter was down right incredible. Each time my drink was running low a refill was given immediately, he checked up on my table frequently, and didn't have to wait long at all for my food despite it being crowded for a Monday Night. Also my waiter gave awesome suggestions on desserts and actually took me over to the display case to show me every single dessert they had available. Food was delicious. Served fresh, large portions, soooooo many options to choose from even during late night, and was so satisfying. I will be reviewing what I tried. -I am kind of disappointed bread baskets cost extra Mozzarella Sticks App- Sooo good! Definitely some yummy food after a long shift. One of my favorite diners on the island! They are open late, nice big parking lot, and the service is fantastic. Buffalo wings- always so crispy, piping hot, and golden brown with a huge side of blue cheese to cool it all down somehow. French toast with blueberry preserves- best French toast you will ever have and the blueberries just take it to another level of greatness. This place is out of this world every time I come here I'm always welcomed with great service as soon and you enter your greeted with respect and seated fast never felt like I was being rushed love coming here. Before the COVID pandemic started me and my girlfriend used to come here like twice a week lol the food is always fresh and delicious the amount of food is perfect. The owners are so nice and when went last week we got this amazing rice pudding for free from them that was really generous of them that's why I would always come here they are open like also which is epic. I've had plenty of diners before but when I think of the best diner, I always think of October. Here's why: 1) the staff are always super friendly. The owners/managers are always giving you ice pudding, cookies, lollipops, they have a smile on their face and are always so happy to see you 2) the menu selection. I haven't had anything I didn't like. Some things are better than others obviously (thanksgiving wrap is amazing year round). 3) the diner is huge and so amazingly decorated! We were drawn in to the patriotically decorated diner. We got the open faced corn beef Reuben. It was piled with meat cheese and sauerkraut. The potato salad was creamy with big chunks. The two stars on this review are because of our super kind waitress and the food was pretty good, but otherwise, I would have given it a zero because of how the owner treated us. When seating our group of 5, two of us were not there yet. They asked if all of us were there, and my friend misheard her and said yes. When we got seated, I told my friend I think they asked if we were all there and she explained that she thought they just asked if we were there. The owner came over to the table and told us that if our friends weren't there, she was going to move us to a different table. My friend explained that she misheard when they were seating us and the owner said "no you didn't" essentially calling her a liar. I spoke up and stood up for her. We explained that we were going to order for our friends and she said fine and told someone we were ready to order even though we had just gotten menus maybe 3 minutes before and were still deciding. Until our friends arrived, the hostess and the owner were looking at us and talking to each other and it felt like they were talking about us the whole time. We were extremely uncomfortable the entire time that we were there and the only reason we stayed is because our waitress was so kind and had apologized for the owner's behavior. After the lunch, we were doing the math on splitting the bill and the owner and a bunch of bus boys hovered over us until we got up and they immediately moved the table right out from under us. I work in hospitality and I would never treat a guest that way. It was rude and unnecessary. read more

Going to Oconee is usually a great experience but take out I would definitely avoid. I ordered hot sandwiches three and a Greek salad. The staff is awesome and very accommodating always. Yet I am horrified at the condition and preparation of the food for take out. After spending over $70 my 5 year old could have slapped bread and meat together better. The bread was soaking wet from the meat, they stuff the sandwiches in plastic containers with all the fixing jammed not only in but all over the outside too. I will never order sandwiches here again. I'll just stick to breakfast. I would have never written this review but $70 was already super highly priced and It sure didn't feel good about throwing $70 directly in the garbage. Let me start off by saying this was never the fault of the waitress, but there's always a but. I ordered waffles as they stated on the menu as Belgian waffles unfortunately when the waffles came out, and they tasted more like what you'd find in a typical little restaurant for breakfast pancake waffle. In other words, they use pancake mix, but just put it in a waffle iron. When I didn't eat the food but didn't say anything to the waitress nor make any comment about it until she asked, I said it just doesn't taste like a Belgian waffle as it is advertised. Three minutes later, a big man came flying out of the kitchen we later found out that is the owner and he came to the table and started screaming at me about my verbal review. He was so loud it was actually embarrassing and never did he say I'm sorry you didn't like your food or what could we have done all he did was scream at me in front of an entire restaurant full of people. Now I know this place has been around and it has a very good name but not that day. The story will conclude with there is an owner that although he's lacking in protocol when approaching a customer with a issue, but it did tell me how much he cares about his food. So although I didn't eat that night, the person I was with had a decent meal, but I've never in 35 years of food service been treated like that in any restaurant nor have I seen it other than on YouTube. This is a very popular diner in the islip area. Like most diners the food is OK, the service is quick and efficient, the prices are high - and all that is true for most diners I've been to throughout the country. The reason I give Oconee only two stars is because whenever you go in there, they always have Fox News streaming on about 20 TV sets throughout the restaurant. And to be honest - it is just very annoying to watch any news channel while eating. Put on sports or a game show or just get rid of all the tv sets. I don't need to watch news while I eat. One nice thing about Oconee is they always have the place really decked out for the various holidays throughout year. That's a really nice touch - but then they tarnish it with Fox on 20 TV sets. read more

Fun Christmas wonderland decorations and great service. Jason went above and beyond for us. My sister and I brought our kids for a little holiday get together meal. first experience with new owners. Awful. I bought French onion soup that was $11.89 first of all. As I got home, soup was in an aluminum tin, not even a soup container and not even wrapped. Broth leaked all over. And when I finally decided to try it, it was overloaded with onion and cheese. Absolutely horrible and could not eat past 3 attempts.
