I went to both a dessert tasting and a 5 course lunch. I didn't think the dessert tasting was that worth it since the pastries could more or less be finished in 1 bite each and you only get 4 of them with 2 drinks. Quality wise they were great and made well, but super small. I liked the first 2 most which were the rose cake and the choux. The choux was definitely the best ive had even though it was only 1 bite maybe 2..., but it was smooth and creamy, but just sweet enough for it to be a well rounded dessert. Unless you really like dessert, I'm not sure they can justify $80 for those 4 little pastries. The lunch was much better, I actually enjoyed the first course with the osetra caviar/uni and the last course which was their milk ice cream. Their ice cream dessert was outstanding, each component balanced out texture and flavor, particularly the jam and the puff pastry on the bottom. All 5 courses were well executed and had quite a bit of prep besides the sushi. I did enjoy the chutoro which in many other cheaper spots could have almost been an otoro, super high quality. As far as lunch, it was pretty special, but not as substantial as I was hoping for $150 per person. I might go back for dinner just to see what they prepare.

Odo is a Kaiseki resturant focusing on traditional flavors. Service was fine and nothing to really right home about. They eventually sat us our seats and they told us what was in the dish. As for the food it was pretty okay. I wouldn't say anything was bad but nothing was particularly good either. One of the weirdest dishes was a caviar, persimmon and peanut dish. The dish was completely drowned out by the peanuts and just tasted like pure peanuts. Huge waste of caviar. For the price of this restaurant I certainly can't recommend it.

If I could, I would come eat here every weekend... They serve only the freshest ingredients and every single detail is well thought out. Execution and delivery is perfect. I love the minimal decor and open kitchen that operates with no mistakes. Truly one of the best meals around nyc. My husband also got the sake pairing ($180 additional) but he said it was well-worth the cost. My favorite dish had to be the fish broth with eggplant! Surprisingly full of flavor even though it looked very bland, there was depth in flavor. My second favorite is the wagyu sukiyaki because who doesnt love wagyu sukiyaki with black truffle egg dip!!! This place is truly a must-experience traditional japanese kaiseki meal.

We had a wonderful anniversary lunch at Odo before catching a train back out of New York. It was hard to find the restaurant when we first arrived as there was no sign, but once we made it inside, it was a lovely experience. The staff were very professional and each dish was presented and explained very well. The sake flight was also a nice add-on to the experience. They also were able to accommodate a pescatarian diet. The only downside was the difficulty figuring out where exactly the entrance was and some confusion on whether reservations were available since they have two systems and only offer dinner reservations on Tock while lunch is on OpenTable.

We dined in October, but Odo's menu evolves frequently, so consider this just a peak of their fall. We started with a silky chawanmushi topped with gingko nuts, matsutake mushrooms, yuzu, and caviar. Loved the contrast of textures, with just the right amount of citrus and brine to wake up the appetite. The otsukuri or sashimi course was a standout Starting from the right: kanpachi, kinmedai, shima aji, and the most buttery bite of chutoro ever. Paired beautifully with freshly grated wasabi, which had this unexpected fruity undertone. Each course built on the last. Kabocha squash soup with lotus root mochi, followed by saba sushi served alongside a crab and cucumber salad. Then came yakimono--barracuda marinated in yuzu and grilled over charcoal. The heaviest course was the takiawase, an ultra-rich truffle broth with slices of A5 wagyu tenderloin. So indulgent it was borderline overwhelming but the peppery flavors helped balance it out. To end the savory portion, a delicious gohan topped with baby anchovies, ikura, and mackerel. With seconds, of course. Was not expecting dessert to be this good (kaiseki usually ends with something simple like fruit). They reimagined apple pie and served the most delicious green apple ice cream ever refreshing, crisp, and the perfect intro to hibernation szn. kaiseki ryori $265* 가이세키를 스시 오마카세보다 더 좋아하는 사람으로서, 매년 꼭 가을에 한 번은 찾는다.

I had the chance to visit Odo for their lunch kaiseki. It was an intimate seating with a total of three guests. The visit begins in a bar (home to Hall, another offering by the same team) where you're guided through a sliding door in the back of the restaurant to the chef's counter. The atmosphere inside is simple, yet stuffy due to the silence in the space. Service was great, as expected of a restaurant of this caliber. Food: Note: Odo doesn't have a standard menu -- the hostess let me know that the menu changes often and that if I visited again in a week or two the menu would be different. Sakizuke (fried usuidofu, osetra caviar. uni, hanaho) - 8.5 - A tofu-like dish created without soy, served in a warm, flavorful broth. The usuidofu was a bit gooey texturally, but hit solid notes flavor-wise. Owan (shiromiso jitate, kanpachi, kyoto carrot, asparagus, yuzu peel) - 8 - White miso soup based course. The kanpachi nestled i the broth had a wonderful char to it, but the soup itself, while pleasant, did not feel particularly unique. Hassun - Seasonal ingredient platter Fish (tachiuo yuanyaki) - 6.5 - Tender with a nice sauce brushed on top. Didn't feel particularly special. Tempura (kogomi) - 6 - Not a big fan. Lightly fried and a bit bitter. Squid (hotaruika) - 8 - Smoked and served cold. Interesting bite unlike anything I've tried. Brussel Sprouts (w/ sakuraebi oshitashi) - 5 - Didn't particularly like this. The sprout itself was apparently bathed in dashi, but it ended up not carrying any flavor. Oshikuji - Main savory courses Chirashi - 9 - Delicious fresh fish with lovely salty bursts from the ikura. Soba - 8.5 - Served chilled. A large portion of freshly house-made soba noodles accompanied by tender wagyu. Kanmi (milk ice cream, matcha granita, puff pastry, sakura meringue) - 9 - The milk ice cream was surprisingly tasty and came with a delicious, light meringue. The hostess let me know that this was one of their most well received dessert courses. Yuzu Berry Mocktail - 8.5 - Light, sweet and refreshing. Very solid drink.

Odo was everything I needed and more on this rainy fall afternoon. I opted in for the lunch tasting and it was absolutely incredible. Ambiance/service was also super peaceful and the chefs communicated simply with nods. Sakizuke: elevated agedashi tofu, so warm and comforting! Owan: the soup was light yet flavorful. There's a common theme that they do fish well here, and the sea bream in this soup was just so tender. Hassun: I LOVED this one -- a cute little snack plate with a variety of seasonal ingredients etc. It makes me happy when chefs play a bit with their cooking, and it's clear through this dish that they do at odo despite the upscale setting. Oshokuji: the chirashi was delicious, but any chirashi is delicious to me. On the other hand, I don't typically go for soba, but the noodles were insane and the Wagyu was an excellent meat choice. Kanmi: dessert of my dreams, checked every box. Homemade raspberry ice cream with chestnut paste and shavings. Paired with a smooth cup of hojicha. Perfect!

What an incredible dining experience at odo. Service was very buttoned up and professional. This may have been the most perfectly paced experience I've ever had for both Kaiseki specifically AND overall tasting menu experiences. All of the dishes were creative, flavorful, and fresh. They all hit the spot. I got the "elevated sake pairing" with my experience and it enhanced the meal so much. All of the sakes were absolutely delicious and perfectly complemented the courses they were served with. Price was extremely fair also for the quality of the food and the experience. Ambiance is awesome inside here. This is a must try if you're in NYC.

I didn't love it, and for two stars I think it missed a few marks. I think it's a great meal on the traditional side, but it didn't have the "yum" factor for me. -- I walked past the entrance three times before I found the place. You have to enter through the sister bar and then go into the back area where the restaurant is located. -- The host that checked us in wasn't super friendly. For two stars I expected better service. -- The food was very simple, light, and allowed the ingredients to shine through. I can appreciate that everything was incredibly fresh and meticulously arranged. None of the dishes had the "wow" factor for me though. The set box presentation was my favorite. -- The person handing us the dishes was extremely friendly and the highlight of the meal. He did a great job explaining each dish. -- The dining room is very intimate, with only a handful of seats around the chefs. What shocked me was that the entire meal was eaten in silence. There was no background music and none of the chefs or staff talked besides the person handing us our dishes and handling drinks. I think a disclosure on the website when booking a reservation would be helpful because I probably wouldn't have booked a meal here if I had known this ahead of time. I felt uncomfortable engaging in a quiet conversation with my party and felt like I couldn't talk. -- I ate almost every bite, yet I left still a little hungry. I have never left a tasting menu hungry before. -- One member of my party had a dietary restriction and Odo was extremely accommodating. They even swapped out a few of the seafood items for something else she would prefer. -- The spring broth was very refreshing. The homemade soba and chirashi had the most substance for the meal. The homemade soba was actually an insane dish -- there was a lot of flavor in that one while still being quite light. The set box presentation was beautiful.

This was our first time at Odo; we just happened to stumble on this restaurant while in mid-town. We were not aware that reservations is needed to be seated. However, the Matre'D did his best to accomodate. It was surely a wonderful experiencing the delicacies Odo has to offer. We would surely revisit Odo when in mid-town Manhattan again.

Food: 5 Decor: 4 Service: 4 Came here for lunch. Overall, a great meal and would definitely come visit again. 2 Michelin stars in 2023. The entire Kaiseki was delicious and consisted of Soba Noodle, Chutoro, Ikura, Charcoal Grilled Duck, Lotus Root Tofu, Shima Aji, Chawanmushi, Anago, Tan Tan Noodle, Sea urchin, and some others. My favorite was probably the uni opening dish and the noodle with Wagyu rice set. Abridged Lunch Kaiseki is $145 per guest. Service was very good although they forgot about a wasabi preference and quickly corrected.

    Shen Y.

The two appetizers including the uni was the highlight of the meal. Sweet and fresh. However, the grill wagyu meatball was burnt, resulting in an unpleasant charcoal flavor, such as waste of the wagyu tempura style fish was also pretty mid. The A5 wagyu w/ black truffle was amazing though. The crab rice and the finishing yuzu sorbet are delicious too. Complicate experience. Overall good but need to be more careful to compete with other fine dining in NYC

    Kaiseki dinner!

The Kaiseki experience at Odo is an epiphany! From the cozy ambiance of the dining counter, the hospitable service of the host Brian with his meticulous presentation of each dish and their respective ingredients, and Odo San's carefully curated seasonal offerings which showed zen like balance and each expressed elements to please the sense of sight, smell and taste, this is a culinary adventure not to be missed!

To drink, I had a Hot Organic Super Matcha Tea for 4.95. It was alright tea, and I wish teas were included in the price point, as otherwise, this place feels pretty traditional. In terms of food, I only ordered from the seasonal menu, so I'm not sure how the rest of the dishes are, but from what I had, I would go back for a light traditional meal. My appetizer was the Dashimaki Tamago/だし巻まき卵たま, or sweet savory omelet with daikon for $6.98. This came with three pieces along with a little dollop of grated radish. The pieces had a light sweetness to them along with a bit of savoriness. They were juicy and a bit bouncy while maintaining some softness. This was standard and good. My main dish was the $19.98 Beef Tan Tan Udon, or ground sirloin beef, spicy broth, baby bok choy, kikurage mushroom, scallions, and sesame seeds. While I have preferred udon from spots like Raku, the udon had a mild chew to it, and they were still good. The broth had a mix of sweetness and spiciness with a nice depth of flavor. The vegetables inside tasted fresh, and the meat added some richness. This was good as well. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to go here, but the food was good. If you're in the area and looking for no frills Japanese dining in a more comfortable atmosphere at pretty decent Midtown East prices, I would recommend this place.

I got back from Japan 3 weeks ago, and the abundant access to high level Katsu ruined me. It takes a piece of your innocence that you will never get back. Big bro put a hand on my shoulder and said, "Lil Bro, I've already walked a mile in these shoes. We are going to Katsu-Hama." Next thing I know, we are on 47th street walking into what I can only describe as a wormhole straight to a restaurant in the bustling streets of Tokyo. We ordered the Berkshire Pork Loin Curry, with an extra cutlet each because we are big dawgs. Upon first bite, hope was restored. I could breath again. Beneath delicate crackles of the crisp golden shell, the pork was impossibly tender. The curry came in over the top with a gentle sweetness and depth to tie it all together. For appetizer, We went adventurous and got the monkfish liver salad - first thought the portion is very small. But to my shock, the sauce is so delicious-- strong, vinegar-y, and spicy - my favorite flavors. Monkfish liver is fishy but very good. I ended up drinking the sauce Entrees: Braised rib massaman, as everyone recommends - best massaman I've ever had so far. Roti is crispy, perfect to go with the curry. seasonal mango branzino - fillets come off of the spine. surprisingly delicious! A little but not too sweet and also savory; again, strong flavor but it works. Better than I expected. E-san hotpot - light in consistency but flavorful dashi. Soup is very nice. Pad thai with salmon - only OK. Service was helpful too: constantly filling our waters, timely clearing dishes, even cooking the hotpot for us. Excellent thai restaurant. Will be back for sure.

We liked both! The Crying Tiger steak was grilled really well, paired with a tangy dipping sauce. The Keaw Tod were like fried wontons. I did like the crunch but wish there was more filling and more than 6 pieces, so for $12.95, I'd pass on this one. The Short Rib Massaman is the star dish; a coconut curry with a big chunky piece of meat served with flaky roti bread. It was really flavorful and tender. The Salmon Clay Pot had nice fragrant garlic rice and a fresh salmon filet. However, the salmon rice tasted more Japanese than Thai. To end the meal, we got their delicious seasonal Mango Sticky Rice. The mangos were ripe and the rice was nice and chewy.

Many of the clientele are Japanese so we knew we were at an authentic place. We got: - Fried oysters: the batter was light and crispy and oysters piping hot - Vinegared Mackerel w/ Ponzu Sauce: fresh & tangy - Intestines Hotpot: comforting & light despite the fattiness of the intestines - Creamed Mentai Udon: they split it in 2 small bowls for us since we were sharing. Udon had a nice bouncy chew and sauce was not heavy We also got a bottle of sake, and they poured it in a beautiful sake decanter to keep it cold. First time seeing cold sake presented this way which was very cool. We tried Suntory draft beer since that was the only draft they had, which was odd since most Japanese places carry Asahi/Sapporo, definitely not as light as the other two beers I'm used to. Even though I was stuffed by the end, I didn't feel lethargic, everything felt light without compromising flavor. Service was attentive although our udon came at the very end, we thought they had forgot about it.

There are a few restaurants in NYC that make you feel like you are stepping into a Japan portal,…read moreand Okatte Tanto is no doubt one of those. As you step into the restaurant, you immediately feel a sense of formality and strictness. It's also very quiet in the restaurant, and friendly to solo diners, adding on more to the Japan-esque feel. The food is high quality here, but the portions are small, and it is pricey. I would budget to spend around $100 a person here after tip and tax, if you ignore the prices on the menu and try a variety of things. The tuna from the bone is the most famous dish here, but I was not able to get it as they sell out very fast. But I tried the sashimi and it was high quality -- just that it was not enough food for me. But that makes it more in line with portions back in Japan. They have an extensive sake list and they also have the casual cocktail options like lemon drops you would find in Tokyo. The atmosphere really transports you straight into Japan if that is something you are looking for. Expect to pay a premium for small-ish portions, but at the same time very well-made and authentic food.
