Ours friends had recommended Off Duty Firefighters. We were moving only six miles from our home in Surprise. Our move started at 7 am with six guys going over the plan of the move. I was taking some things over to our new house when the guys started loading there truck. After one hour , I was returning to pick more stuff for another trip and my wife called me saying she was was leaving with the movers to our new house. That was very surprising . About an hour and a half later when I went to my new place the movers were gone. There were 10 guys on the back end of the move. All the furniture was placed wherever my wife instructed the men to place it. They even mounted our 70" TV. I was shocked. I couldn't believe they took less than 3 hours to do the job. Unable to get anyone to answer phone. Called several times. Tried looking up different phone numbers. Couldn't reach anyone.

I hired this company which came as a recommendation from someone that I was recommended to that did not have availability. I was not expecting young men to come and load my trucks for my move, which would have been fine if they had taken care of my things. I did not see any of these things before they left, and I was just going to let it go because things to get broken. But today, I found where my newer leather loveseat was damaged not badly but it is damaged. With that being said, I had the last straw and have decided to leave a review after all. I have a broken drawer on my bed, there is damage to my bed framing, the top of my grandmothers dresser is slivered on the front top, I found I leg of my bed that had been broken off put in a dresser drawer, my coffee take has a chunk of wood taken out of the side of it. Beware of their price estimates!! While the move itself this week 6.5 miles away to my new home went well, the final bill compared to their initial estimate was 2x the estimate! I had a lot of large shop equipment, 4'x8' tables etc, that needed to be moved and after showing the person that came over all of the items to be moved he quoted me $750 for the move. He also explained that since most of my items would take up more floor space and couldn't be stacked it would take the whole length of the truck but he was charging for 1/2 truck which seemed reasonable and fair which I agreed to. At the start of the move, I informed them that the only new thing I added to the move was a round patio table and 4 chairs. With the 8 guys they had at the house the truck was quickly loaded in about 35 minutes, which they then informed me that they would have to make a second trip to take the remaining few items (king bed/headboard, 1 recliner, cedar chest, cat tree, and 3'x3' shelf system) which took 10-15 minutes to load. Once the second load was picked up and unloaded, I was informed that my final price had jumped from $750 to $1,500! Since moving is stressful and with letting the movers know where everything was going as it came off the truck I wasn't thinking as clearly as I should have been to question the doubling of the estimate until a few days later when I contacted the owner, John. When I explained to John how the initial estimate came about and the remaining items they had to take in the second run would have fit in the 1/8 truck size (up to 16' for $250) I didn't understand why I was being charged double the estimate. Now I can certainly understand with the second load the final price was going to be higher than the initial $750 quote and was expecting and increase in the $300-$400 range which would incorporate any second trip charge or gas surcharge for the 14-mile round trip, but certainly not $750. John said they try very hard to be within a couple hundred dollars of the initial quote, but at the end of the day the pricing is what it is. He then offered me $100 back which felt like more of an insult than anything else. Either they completely messed up the initial estimate or were trying to price gouge. With all of the moves that John said they do a year I have a hard time believing that they would have missed the initial estimate by 2x. While the move and movers went well, I wouldn't recommend the Off Duty Firefighters unless you are willing to risk a surprise final price at the end. I'd be more than willing to update this review should John want to reconsider the final price I was charged for this move. read more

Packed EVERYTHING including my suitcases for my long distance move. Claimed they asked me about it and I aid OK. DID NOT ask and I DID NOT Approve. I needed some furniture moved locally recently and the ODFF (Off Duty Firefighters) were nothing but efficient and professional. John came to estimate and then on the day of the move the crew arrived exactly on time. There were enough so that the loading only took about half an hour. (1/2 a truck). At the unloading end, they were very accommodating and helpful as I placed things. I would highly recommend. You can tell the connection they all feel with one another. (they are either current firefighters or police, retired, or friends/family of the same) Again, I would highly recommend. read more

What a punctual, professional and courteous group of three that moved me out of storage to my garage this morning! Not only was the fee reasonable, but each of the movers were kind and engaging. These guys did an absolutely terrible job packing my POD. Nothing was secured down even though I told them it was a long distance move. After they left, I couldn't get the door closed. We had our carpets replaced and needed people to move our furniture and boxes into our carport. These guys were fast courteous and did a great job. They came back the next day to put stuff back. Again, they were fast and courteous. The quote we got from John I thought was fair considering there were around 6-8 guys doing all the work. A horrible experience. Many of the items they loaded were damaged due to the way they handled the packing. We have a table that they removed the base and reinstalled the screws so tight it went through the top of the table. John refuses to address this. We also have a television that was destroyed and John says it was our fault for not packaging it right despite the fact he told us in writing that it was not needed and they will blanket wrap it. He told me we signed a waiver and to bad. We are now going to pursue legal action. read more

Buyer beware,,,,!,!! We had John (Sr.) come give us an estimate for moving our household to storage while our new home was being built. $900. He told us he had been a firefighter for 19 1/2 years and moving furniture for 19 years. I'm as patriotic as you can ask for so I agreed and gave him a deposit. On the day of the move 5 men (well, almost men) showed up....two of the "firefighters" were actually high school kids. They loaded their truck, took it to the storage unit, unloaded it and back to the house. This is where the little surprise came. The lead guy (not John) told me he had just talked to John and wanted to know if I wanted to continue moving or just have them leave? If I wanted them to continue it would be another $700 because it was going to take a second load to finish! EXCUSE ME? We were leaving town the next day so he put us in a corner---We had them finish--I was Pi--Ed!-duh? John, all of the sudden, was not available to talk to--surprise! I finally got ahold of him a few days later when we were 1100 miles away. He gave a phony excuse that some people 'add stuff' after the estimate and don't put their pillows in the drawers like he wants-they put them in an extra box. Give me a break! He told me to call him when our new house is done and he would make up for it. Well, it's 6 months later, the house is almost ready and HE WONT TAKE MY CALL! Why am I not surprised---- read more
