First time trying this place. My dad was craving a fish sandwich, he has been sick so I wanted to make sure he enjoyed and liked the food. So I researched and came across this place. Had the fish sandwich. My dad loved it!! Keep in mind he is not easily pleased. Lol. I am not a fish person but I bought one for me as well... let me just say that if it's from here.. This will probably be one of the most disappointing reviews I'll ever have to write. I walked into "Off The Hook Fish Grill" (The one on Whittier Blvd.) with a ton of anticipation and ready to consume some fresh seafood! Sometimes when you build something up in your mind, it doesn't always live up to your expectations. The food was OK. It wasn't bad by any means, but it was just very OK. My biggest let down was my server, Drew. The guy seemed like he didn't want to be there, like I was bugging him. I never once asked him for anything because he made me feel uncomfortable from the moment he introduced himself. He didn't really check up on our table and the whole experience was awkward. Absolutely TERRIBLE! The $7.00 fish taco tasted very fishy, not fresh at all, the breaded shirmp taco was equally bad. I actually saw one of the cooks get something on his fingers, lick it off and proceed to finish preparing the customers order....WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS!!! My sister introduced me to this place a while back,. When I first tried Off The Hook, I went for the tacos. I wasn't too impressed with the tacos, and so my sister raved about their wraps. A few weeks ago I stopped by and placed an order online and tried the shrimp wrap and OMG I was in heaven; everything you need and want in a wrap was in It, it is so flavorful and just so darn tasty. I do however wish it had more shrimp; I feel like it was a bit lacking of shrimp, but overall it was just so delicious. As a plus, you receive chips and a very tasty salsa that is not spicy to go along with the meal, the chips have fresh queso fresco on top which make them so incredibly special. Came on Martin Luther King jr day a lot of places were closed but it was meant to be because we came to this gem! Food was delicious!! They have amazing wraps, tacos, and plates for good prices. My favorite, that I'm about to order for delivery after writing this, is the shrimp wrap w extra chipotle sauce. My bf & I used to enjoy coming here since we love seafood & support small businesses. We ordered a mahi plate to go and when we arrived home & I began to eat my plate I ate a slice of pita bread & when I looked down to grab another I noticed there was MOLD on all of the slices. My boyfriend & I lost our appetites & though we were upset, instead of us posting a Yelp review right away, we decided to call them & notify them of the situation & give them a chance to fix it because they might be serving it to their customers & see what can be done before we post a review online. We called them, told them of the moldy pita bread gave them our phone number with the girl who picked up & she insisted the bread is fresh & changed daily... umm THEN WHY IS THERE MOLD ON IT & had it served it to us? Their manager & the establishment failed to called us back after 2+ weeks and hence the review here on yelp. We frequent the restaurant near this location and wanted to always try Off the Hook and IT WAS OFF THE HOOK YUMMY DELCIOUS!! This place is a MUST, if you're in the area! The corn tortillas were the BOMB and I am not a fan of corn tortillas! I had the grilled shrimp taco plate. It came with a side of the world's BEST salsa and freshly made corn chips; not too salty nor greasy! The Pacifico Michelada on the side brought it all together! I'm not sure this place can handle crowds. They sat 2 sets of customers before us. The customers before us (party of 3, like us) just took over a table when we were told that there was a waitlist and a sign-in sheet. The waitstaff attempted to tell them that tables needed to be cleared but did not point out the wait list. So they just sat there. Maybe we should have just grabbed a random table too. Spent 30 minutes starving for no reason. The place is understaffed and tables sit uncleared and customers continue to wait. We really wanted to try this place out but just couldn't deal with waiting in the sun or dealing with the super busy waitstaff. No comment on the food quality, did not get to taste. read more

Soso. Some of the staff thought they were pretty cool which is always entertaining. Got the salad with salmon and some appetizer that made no impression. Italian dressing was straight grade school cafeteria- one tier below stuff sold on the shelves in smaller bottles at the grocery store. Sesame dressing was ok. Way too thick and sweet so used sparingly. Will not go back by ok if in a pinch. read more

It's great place to eat at, the food is good and the servers are nice, however, be warned, don't go after 8pm because they will not seat you to eat. Although they close at 9pm, I went once at 8:20 pm and they sat me down and I went once at 8:12 pm and this young gentlemen was a bit rude, and basically told me that they were closed and not taking orders. Tacos here are bomb dot com! I love the sauces they have here; luckily for us the woman in front was super nice and gave us one of each. They just added a little extra flavor to the already amazing tacos. I was hoping their fried fish taco would be great but it was probably my least favorite while my favorites were the crunchy shrimp taco and the grilled fish wrap. Definitely coming back here and trying the rest of their big menu but that wrap might be a staple of mine here on out. read more

Being out across various parts of SoCal in a given week, I like to have a go-to fish taco spot in different regions. I don't just hand out reviews. The food really has to stand while not trying to reinvent something like a fish taco. I love their original fish taco with chipotle sauce. I recently went back and tried the grilled fish taco and thought it was great as well (but I love me some crispy fish tacos). It's by all means not a come in, order and take your food out quickly. But it's also not a "formal" sit down place that'll have you looking at the time (unless you're me and talk it up with the bartender, more in him). For me, its great place for someone looking to take a colleague for a business lunch, without running up a bill (see note above about bartender). My first time there I sat with Adolfo - the bartender. Both him and I are bourbon drinkers so we got to talking about Old Fashioned's and their roots as one of the oldest cocktails. He was great company and made a great drink. Was hoping to catch him again when I came back, but I guess he deserves a day off. read more

I ordered the grilled shrimp Caesar salad and my friend ordered the grilled shrimp plate with vegetables and coleslaw The shrimp can be prepared 4 different ways. We both ordered it Cajun style. You receive two skewers with 4-5 shrimp on each skewer. My salad was a good portion for lunch and the shrimp was tasty. The salad was $9.99 and I thought well worth it.
