ABSOLUTELY UNPROFESSIONAL! 100% intended to buy a laptop today (saw the one I wanted advertised for a great price). Yahoo for birthday $$! =) Salesperson was nice, albeit a tad pushy (purchase the protection program, the software, yada yada). Was about to check out...that's when things went south. They didnt have my latptop in stock (like the website stated it was in stock), so I would have to go to another store to purchase, but they would call to reserve one for me. I was chatting with another customer (who was telling me I didnt need to purchase the software -outlook - from them, I could find other software cheaper/free online or move from a different computer). My mother went up to the front where the not-so-nice female employee was calling the other store.In front of my mother the employee says to the person on the other end - "No, she is NOT purchasing the protection program. Another customer talked her out of it." Obviously we didnt hear the retort on the other end. Then she laughs and mumbled something else "I know, haha". The other person talks... My mother - who has been in front of her the whole time (employee KNOWS my mother is there, with me, buying the laptop) says "No, she was NOT talked out of buying the protection program by another customer. She cannot afford it. She never intended to purchase it. She came for the LAPTOP." Employee - "Well, you know we always recommend buying the protection because you will spend WAY more $ if the computer gets damaged." ... Mom "I know that is how you make your $, but we do not have the $ for it. We came for the laptop, not a bunch of other stuff."...and... thats when we left. I get it. You want to sell the extras. But really? You are going to belittle a customer who is practically drooling to spend $1000 RIGHT THIS MINUTE? Bad move lady. You lost our sale and my $. Im looking to find it elsewhere or at the very least purchase it online so I can be a little more secure that someone doesnt drop it on purpose just to prove a point (or joke about doing it over the phone...). Maybe you should have waited until we left to be chat on the phone about how stupid we are for not purchasing the protection plan...I will NOT be back to that Office Depot EVER. read more

Staff doesn't seem too helpful. The girl at the checkout always politely greets us when we walk in and asks if she can help us find something. When we say what we're looking for, she NEVER knows where to direct us and doesn't try to help further. Good luck finding it yourselves! read more

Heavily understaffed for the middle of the day, and mediocre workers with atrocious customer service.

I just have to say I received the best customer service here at this store! I had try to go to one of the "other" office supply stores, and had a terrible time getting anything done or getting any correct information. Everyone knew what they were doing, everyone was friendly, and quite helpful. BEWARE OF FEDEX SERVICES--HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE--EDWARD PILI not a good manager. I went in on Saturday morning to send some important legal documents. The folks working there were nice enough but it took close to an hour for them to figure out how to get a package mailed via FEDEX. I was patient, though I had to enter the information onto the computer more than once. We were able to see all the shipping options and delivery dates and prices...I selected two day FEDEX with a delivery guarantee of Tuesday. OK, Besides the issue of the price on the computer and the reciept being totally different ($15 difference) I paid and left confident that the package that cost $45 to send would get there on time. UNFORTUNATELY IT DID NOT. The employees are apparently not aware that fedex does not pickup at their stores on the weekends. HELLO...how can they not know this? Why doesn't the computer reflect this? I would NEVER have mailed it from there if I knew that it wouldn't be picked up until monday. there are so many mailing options...they need to be clear. THe package did not ship until Monday and did not arrive on time. Not right at all. So, I am frustrated and upset. I call and speak to the manager, Edward. HE says, sorry my employees didn't know, I will tell them and there is nothing I can do for you. Uhm...yeah there is. YOU screwed up, you didn't train your folks and I paid close to $50 to get a package fedexed and it did not get there because YOU SCREWED UP. It is called customer service....you offer some kind of recompense. "So sorry for your troubles and the frustration (not to mention the potentially huge consequences of the legal documents not getting there on time...still waiting on that outcome)" here is a gift card, or at the least I should be refunded what I paid. TOTALLY THEIR SCREW UP. TOTALLY INADEQUATE RESPONSE Edward PILI, where did you get your manager skills from? Really this is basic customer service. If I could give this store and their online ordering process and their manager a zero I would. I placed an order for a computer monitor over a month ago. The item never arrived, they didn't ship it. They me it was lost, told me to cancel the order and place a new one. Four days later after several emails and calls they contacted me to tell me it was out of stock and I needed to order a different model. I canceled the order. The never refunded me and after two days on the phone was told I had to come in person to be refunded and receive money back for the warrantee. The manager was rude. The sales personnel incompetent. And after being transferred for over an two hours I've been left standing at the store with no refund for over an hour with no manager assistance. I will never shop either online or in person at this store again and I advise anyone who doesn't want to throw their money away and waste several days on an item that never ships, to not shop here or online at Office Depot. Black Friday - Sad Friday I was enticed by their laptop deals. I sleep near the door since midnight. There are about 10 people ahead of me. When my turn to get the voucher to buy, they told me they only stock 1 (ONE!) of the laptop that they print in their brochure. Ok, then I ask about the $350 laptop in the front page of their brochure. They say, oh, we have that but we have done some upgrade by removing the trialware on it, and that's an upgrade for $70. Sadly, I took the voucher and proceed to the cashier. Then it turn out, the guy at the door gave me a wrong voucher for the wrong laptop. I put an entry on my diary today, NEVER EVER go to OFFICE DEPOT for black Friday. read more

I had an awful experience with Office Depot while trying to get a refund on a service I didn't authorized. I contacted them 17 different times over a period of 31 days and got 16 different stories. 12 of those stories were from their call center in India. They were the worse customer service I had ever experienced. They messed up the original refund order and would not admit it. I have experience with Indian call centers so I knew what was happening. They have a tendency to not admit their errors and will tell lies on top of lies to cover it up -- one call center manager (for a different company) even went so far as to say, "That is not company policy." I called the main store directly and they fixed it because it was company policy... .. I finally received my refund from OD (It was only $130.00). I fear for the companies that spend thousands of dollars with Office Depot and have to deal with their India call center. With 14 million Americans out of work why is OD using an oversees service, especially one that has no respect for their customers? This should have not happened. I would not be so unhappy if it was an isolated incident but it isn't. It is consistent with those call centers. Drop the zeros OD and hire Americans who speak English the way we speak English. read more

This place talked me in to rewards program. They sold me wrong printer cartridge. Sales person said my receipt would go to my email. Got home snd it was the wrong cartridge and there was no email. Went to return the cartridge and was told I couldn't get my money back. They are scammers. read more

Customer service is below average. Numbers of isles make no sense. I was told to go to a numbered isle that was out of order without a number on the end. When you ask for assistance no eye contact from employees. Made me feel as if I was putting them out. read more

Recently came here for a print job I was told would take under five minutes. The employee was originally friendly, but seemed a bit unknowledgeable about the materials they're working with and got distracted during an influx of customers, with three customers that came in after me getting their jobs done first. After 40 minutes waiting and no apology/explanation of what was going on, I was told their machine was broken and they couldn't do my job. Wanted to explain the situation to the store manager (who was manning one of two open registers with a long line waiting due to lack of employees in every department!). Originally the other cashier asked me to get in line and wait when I asked for store contact info to call back later because I saw they were busy, which is about the time my (extremely high) level of patience at that point ran out and I explained the situation when the store manager asked me over her shoulder what was going on. Explained my experience, told her the store NEEDS more employees, bid them a good day, and left the store. NEVER coming back here again. read more

I had a crazy amount of books I needed printed and he helped me get it all set up. He was great and accommodating, and really just made the whole process simple and did all he could for me. Some of the best customer service and best printing at an office depot you can get! I recently sent a test print of a large poster to this store and had it done in an hour, the print was amazing quality. So i decided to order more and accidentally sent the order to the El Cajon store. After my issue with the el cajon store I brought my horribly printed posters, my receipt from el cajon and a hope that they could help me get them laminated and the first print of this job complete. Edward said it would be no problem, they would honor that I paid online and call me when the job was complete. He called me later to tell me that the prints were so bad from drying with bubbles that the laminator ate the paper and put the laminator out til the next day. He called the El Cajon store and had them email the file to him, offered me the bad prints for the day to hang as needed, print 4 new prints in the morning and have them laminated and ready. He waited for me 10 minutes after closing to pick up the unlaminated posters when he didn't have to. I got home(After closing) and sent off 100 sheets that needed to be laminated The next morning he called me at 10 AM and said the prints and posters were all ready for me. They went above and beyond and tried to salvage any respect I had for the company, Corporate ruined that but they tried to fix it here and did a hell of a job with anything I have sent to them. Edward understood the issue, the print center realized how bad it was, apologized for El Cajon when they didn't need to and had me set by my first deadline. If I ever print or shop with office depot again, it will because of this store and it's employees. read more

This place has the WORSE customer service , and they are ALWAYS out of everything you need, plus it is filthy. I would save yourself the trip and go to another office supply store or just another office depot. I purchased a laptop computer on-line on Thanksgiving day and got a fantastic deal. Unfortunately, I did something pretty stupid and during the set up process messed up on my password. When I went back to the laptop later, I was unable to get past the password screen. It was really frustrating. I called the store and talked to Bill. Bill told me to bring it in so he could take a look at it. He did, and determined I'd probably need need to leave it there for them to work on it and asked Austin to do the paperwork while Bill helped another customer. Austin spent time looking at the computer as well, and with Bill's suggestion, he found a way for me to get past the password problem. Austin went way above and beyond in helping me. He even wrote me some notes with instructions. He was awesome and I so appreciate his help! This store has always had very friendly staff, who are eager to help you from the moment you walk in. My experience with Bill and Austin today just continued to prove that. Thanks guys for you help! read more
