    Vegan chicken bento

Ogenki Sushi provided a great Vancouver culinary experience for me! I loved the bento with so many delicious items included! I think the tempura was my fav! Friendly staff. Cute decor on the outside and cozy on the inside, which is perfect for a winter evening. No pretension here!

Vegan menu: Salmon, tuna, avocado sushi and i forgot the roll name. It had avocado and "mixed crab" inside

Found out about this place on Instagram. I bookmarked it until I got to make a trip to Vancouver, BC! I'm surprised at the low stars this place gets. I was very excited to check out the vegan menu. Ordered a spicy avocado roll, stuffed with "mixed crab" that was made of tofu, tempura asparagus, was disappointed it wasn't spicy and there was no jalapeños on it like it listed in the menu. Also tried the vegan salmon, tuna, and avocado sushi pieces. It costs like $2.5-3.5 CA per piece which is a bit pricey but this was my first experience of vegan sushi so i had to try it! Lol. The roll was very good yet felt standard. The crab mix tasted more like tofu, but I enjoyed it. The salmon was the most experimental for me. I've never had real fish and the salmon had this slippery texture that kind of scared me, lol. I shouldn't have been surprised but my mouth was! Lol. The tuna tasted like tomato and didn't have the same experience as the salmon. The avocado was underwhelming after trying those two show stoppers, lol. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience and the food! I left full and wished I could try more items but my stomach wouldn't allow it, lol. Customer service was great, all the staff were very friendly!

Moving near Main we're looking for our new go to sushi spot and Ogenki does a great takeout. The fish is fresh and the rolls are a good size (not too big not too small) I hate an oversized roll but these are perfect. The nigiri was a great fish to rice ratio as well and the sushi felt really nice and clean. I felt great after eating this combo. What I like too is it's reasonable. This combo cost $14.95 where at many places they charge more more dinner combos. I would definitely order from them again as I enjoyed my meal a lot! Haven't sat in yet but hopefully soon!

Ogenki Sushi was closed for several months during COVID but are now open again for both take out and dine in service. There is limited seating in this establishment. They are currently offering 10% off all take out which is a nice incentive to bring back business. Opted for the Combo 5 (Tuna roll, yam tempura roll & California roll) this time around. With tax and the 10% off, it came to just over $13 which is a great deal for so much sushi. Taste & presentation were good and as was the quick efficient service. It was a positive food experience and happy to recommend Ogenki Sushi if in the 'hood looking for sushi. And yes this business is back open.

I have passed by this place for years but never tried. Price-wise, it is expensive for the quality you get. We ordered the sashimi box set, spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls, negitoro roll and a tuna and salmon don. The don was very small. The box was nothing special either. The spicy rolls were just regular rolls with a little bit of sauce on top. The spicy salmon had nice chunks of salmon but the spicy tuna has been mashed into something that doesn't taste like tuna. Nothing particularly bad here but I could get this for a better price elsewhere for the same quality.

Omg!!! One of the things I've missed the most since going plant based is a selection of sushi to enjoy. This little hole in the wall restaurant is definitely not fancy but the staff are super friendly and the food is amazing. Was blown away at how the sushi chef used marinated tomato to create a tuna substitute and carrot for salmon - same texture as the real thing and amazing flavor without being fishy. My son and I enjoyed 4 different rolls and cleaned up every last piece. I've been following this little place online for awhile and was thrilled to get a chance to finally try it out. Cannot wait to go again!!

This is my favourite sushi place in Vancouver. the service is outstanding. The servers are friendly, prompt and attentive. The fish to rice ratio is out of the world. I hate it when you get sushi and it's all rice. These guys know what's up. I love the miso and udon In a cold night. The spicy tuna and Unagi are wonderful. The music is great too. 10/10.

My first Sushi experience after moving to Canada couldn't have been better! And frankly speaking, I didn't believe a single review praising the vegan sushi options and rating these at par or higher than their non-veg counterparts. I thought that there was something fishy (or maybe not!) about these comparisons, but not for long. My cynicism (and piscimism!) met a swift end after taking a bait err bite of Chef George's vegan culinary creations! Mindblowing stuff! Wait, is it truly vegan?! After wrapping up with work on Thursday evening, I called Ogenki Sushi to inform them that we'll be there at around closing time. Rose, who answered my call, was very patient and helped me in narrowing down what to select for my pickup order. When we arrived, we grabbed a box of vegan Oshi and Rolls - Vegan Crab Oshi, Yellow Dragon Roll, Spicy Green Dragon Roll, and Ogenki Roll, along with a non-veg combo #3 box which comprised of Salmon, Tuna, Ebi Sushi, California Rolls with complimentary Miso Soup. It was love at first sight when our eyes met the beautiful and colorful (not to mention drool-inducing!) box comprising of vegan delicacies! It felt good to exchange words with and convey our gratitude to Chef George over the counter while he was busy doing his magic. Each of these items tasted delicious, and I concur - not to take anything away from the original sushi, but the vegan crab meat and yam based sushi options don't need (to) fish for compliments! Perhaps for the first time in my life, I'll choose veg/vegan items as the undisputed winners over their non-veg namesakes even without sampling the latter! Ogenki's interiors are spacious and the ambience is nice, plus there is ample street parking along the adjacent Main St and in the nearby neighborhood. Needles to say, I'll be back to try more of the many offerings on their extensive menu. Kudos to Rose for the fantastic service despite it being nearly the end of a very long day for her, and hats off to Chef George and Ogenki Sushi for the goodies and their hospitality!

They have a separate vegan menu with some really interesting looking items, so we tried them out for dinner one night. We did an online order of a bunch of different sushi rolls, and the order was ready for pick-up when we requested. -Mango Avocado Roll ($5.95; 8 pcs). Very nicely made -- the mango adds a nice touch to this classic roll. A little pricey, but pretty reasonable. -Futo Maki ($7.95; 5 pcs). Comes with tofu skin, shiitake, and some other crunchy veggies. Well-done, but very over-priced. -Spicy Green Dragon Roll ($14.95; 8 pcs). A sexy roll with vegan crab, asparagus tempura, avocado, and spicy mayo. Very delicious, but horrendously overpriced. -Okra Nigiri and Baby Corn Nigiri ($2.75 each). Both were very tasty, especially the baby corn, which is seared. Hadn't had anything like these before. Really nice. -Agedashi Tofu ($7.50; 10 pcs). Probably not good for take-out, as it's soggy by the time you get home. Nice dipping sauce, but not all that flavourful or creative. Over-priced for what you get. All in all, this is pricey stuff, but they have so many creative things on the menu and it's generally well-executed. Worth trying out for something different and the veganized versions of classic sushi rolls. Recommended.

Be still, my heart vegan sushi, what?! My friends and I came here for a birthday meal. There's parking in the back or parking on the side streets if you're okay with a bit of walking. We called in advance to book reservations and since we have dietary restrictions (no onion, garlic, leek, anything from the allium family), we also reached out in advance to check what we could and couldn't eat. The staff and chef at Ogenki Sushi are incredible! Their chef came out and chatted with us to learn more about our dietary restrictions and worked with us to curate an incredible meal. We ended up ordering two (?) rounds of food and absolutely loved everything! Already have plans to return and have shared with our friends so they can also visit!

Thank you for the wonderful Yelp Elite Experience! We were welcomed very gracefully even though it was busy as hell! Thank you to our CM Eric for organising the event! Thank you also to Ogenki Sushi for invinting yelpers for its vegan sushi! Looking forward to the next YEE event! The 15 pieces roll of sushi was exceptionally good and enough for us to try the vegan sushi. The selection for trial is good stuff!! So thank you for selecting correctly too. The vegan sushi is good too and exceptionally made! Cheers! This is recommended from me! I would come back for the vegan sushi next time!

Excellent service, super smooth and flexible reservation with friendly and helpful staff. Food taste, quality, and presentation are also great, with very nice atmosphere and restaurant decor. Huge shoutout to Rose for being a great server and manager.

Maybe it's an American thing to linger and enjoy a dining experience. To stay longer than needed to…read moresoak up the ambiance and give a good moment some extra time for memories. But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

The first bite was amazing; I've never had such a delicious pork cutlet in Shanghai. Curry Pork Cutlet Rosu Curry $29.5 My friend ordered the curry pork cutlet today, and it was surprisingly excellent! The curry flavor was incredibly rich and full-bodied. Wrapped in the crispy pork cutlet and eaten with rice, it was pure carb bliss! Freshly Ground Sesame Powder I have to praise their freshly ground sesame powder; the aroma of the sesame seeds you grinded yourself was a real highlight. * With lemon salt: Refreshing and original, a perfect way to cut through the richness! * With barbecue sauce: Mixed with sesame powder, the flavors develop layer by layer. Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.

This place gets busy, so I highly recommend reserving a table online (via OpenTable) but we did show up early to see if there was walk-in seating available. Luckily, we did get the last 2 seats at the bar. The staff are so friendly and cheery. They greet customers that come in and thank every customer when they leave. People who haven't been to an izakaya may think it's loud and noisy, but the point of izakayas is they're supposed to be vibrant, high energy, and filled with cheerful chatter. Think of a tapas-style pub/bar for people to unwind and gather to chat after a long day at work. I loved the atmosphere, as it's casual, entertaining, and lively. The food was great and I couldn't think of a dish I didn't like. The sashimi were so fresh and high quality. Of course they use freshly grated wasabi too. The hanger steak was cooked perfectly and super tender and flavorful. The saba mackerel is grilled to perfection and reminds me of the ones I ate in Japan. Me, I know nothing about Izakaya or what is or isn't authentic Japanese cuisine, so this review is coming from someone with zero knowledge or expectation of any specific foods or experiences. Despite it being a weeknight, the place was packed. It was good that we had a reservation. There was a couple in line before me and they were walk-ins, and there were no available seats for them. I noted how small this place was, and crowded, with the tables close together and a long bar with a counter and barstools there (also close together). Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).
