I ordered a lobster a role and it was over $20 and it came with only chips, coleslaw and a pickle... my only complaint would be that I wish my order came with fries or other options without an additional charge. Delicious!! Although this restaurant is not open seating, the atmosphere is that of a cantina, very loud due to high ceilings which also gives a bright eating experience. We were not disappointed by this, but if you are looking for intimate dining then this is not the place for you! We were two couples seated at a roomy window table. This is a place where you choose your own steamers and lobsters from the "pound" and then they are prepared for you. We started with steamers which were good. Next came New England clam chowder which was creamy, loaded with clams and not too salty. Same with the lobster bisque, delicious and not too salty. Our meals: 2.5lb lobster, picked from the pound and steamed, baked stuffed shrimp, lobster pie, and stuffed lobster tails. Each meal came with two sides which included red mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables, baked potato. Everything was outstanding! The stuffing was meaty and not all bread and butter. As much as we previously enjoyed the Lobster Pound, not this time. We went to the Lobster Pound hoping to get "Lobster" and low and behold, the first thing our server told us when we were ordering was "We have no stuffed lobster or stuffed lobster tails.", which was what we came for. Then, we ordered clam chowder, which had to be taken back three times because it was ice cold and even the third time it was cold on top. Finally, we ordered the chicken wings appetizer. Although the outside was spicy goodness, the chicken wasn't cooked thoroughly throughout and it was like biting into clam bellies....gross! We have been there before and it was good, however, this time was horrible. Not once did a manager come over, especially after the chowder had to be taken back three times. read more

Gave it a try but was definitely a tourist trap. Lobster was over cooked and they give you no extra utensils to eat it with or bowls to put your shells in. Service was good at the start but then waitresses never came back. Got dessert to go, my son dropped it on the way out ... walked in and asked for another one offering to pay. This is the place to go for your Maine lobster dinner. I had an amazing 2.5 lb lobster here. The steamed clams were delicious. The bacon wrapped scallops were delightful. You get to go outside and choose the lobster you'll be eating for dinner, and have the opportunity to request a particular size for your lobster. It's a fun experience. Ugh-- tourist trap! It's like the lobster shack version of Barnacle Billy's! We went on some misguided advice, that the steamers are "to die for." Disagree. The steamers were served to us without having been cleaned!!! With the beards! Served with a plastic container of "clam juice" (when I inquired after its origins, I was told that the "clam juice" is actually the water that they boil the clams in) and clarified butter. Disgusting. And overpriced to boot! I could have bought twice as many steamers, cleaned, for less at Whole Foods. And we could have had an excellent dinner, for the same price, elsewhere. The lobster was fine, but you can't really f lobster up. They supposedly do such a great job of cracking your lobster for you that they "don't have shell crackers." I venture that, if I didn't know how to crack my own lobster, I wouldn't mind having to shred the meat with the odd little wooden dowel-like tool I was given in order to get it out of its shell. But I do and I did. The sides were sub-par at best-- think the kind of cole slaw and beans you can purchase at the big y deli counter, and then take it down a notch. The kitsch factor of getting to choose your own lobster out of a large outdoor tank, while enjoyable, does not make up for the overall mediocrity of this place. Some highlights: screaming children, tourists galore, old ladies chatting loudly about their various medical ailments, a dolt townie waitress, and a wine list that featured a $23 bottle of white zin. Unfortunately, my wife and I decided to dine here on our recent trip to Ogunquit. Generally, we set low standards and are very understanding patrons, but this place is a predatory tourist trap if there ever was one. They sell better food at The Outback Steakhouse for less than half the price. My steak was cooked improperly and my wife was sick to her stomach from her scallops. The sides tasted as if they had just been delivered from the grocery store located up the road. The only saving grace was that certain employees were understanding. It was like they knew we were getting screwed over but just could not say anything. For those reviewers saying that the lobster is good, you can get a similar or better lobster at any number of places close by for much cheaper. Really fresh, tasty lobster. We stopped by for a late-ish dinner on a Friday evening, and we had to wait about 30 minutes before being seated. We ordered the steamers as a starter, which were delicious, while my whole lobster had extraordinary flavor and were so easy to crack and eat. It's definitely one of the fresh lobsters I've ever had, and it was definitely worth the price of admission to choose your own lobster to have prepared fresh. Do not go to the Lobster Pound if you are looking for high-falutin' interpretive haut cuisine. There's Arrows for that. Go for the bare bones simplicity of lobster cooked just the way you like it, steamers fresh and sweet and served with drawn butter and cole slaw. I prefer going on the early side, before the sun sets, and grabbing a picnic table not far from the pound. I try and avoid the dining room because it depresses me -- although some might find the New England kitsch charming. At the picnic tables, usually we're flanked by families with screaming kids and daytrippers up from Boston. One sad, sad note: the lobster pound is absurdly expensive -- around 18.95/lb for a hard shell lobster - cooked with two sides. So a lobster dinner for two, including an appetizer and a drink but no dessert ends up around $100 before tip. Prepare to spend! My summer is never complete without a trip here. read more

We searched Ogunquit for a place for a great lobster and found it here in at the Lobster Pound. The Pina colada was super and the clam chowder the best we ever had with creamy soup, few potatoes and soft clams. The salad was great and the shrimp cocktail good but the shrimp were not jumbo size. The lobster was the star and came perfectly cooked. This was a stellar experience and Magen was a wonderful server. This place is very large but well organized. What made this an unsatisfied experience is my son who young asked for the waitress to sing to me and she only could just say happy birthday. But the table next to us was sung to. Steamers & lobsters are incredible but get here before 6pm was our friends advice and well taken! This restaurant is very large ..pretty much a lobster compound. The yard around it is so vast children can run and play! Plenty of seating all around outside if you do encounter a wait. Alas we did not because we went early! We were sat in a lovely table by the window so we can watch the lobsters being picked right out of the pool like lobster tank outside and weighed. The decor was rustic reminding me of a wood cabin - lodge feel all very casual. The cute little souvenir shop was just a cut out of the restaurant but offered t-shirts, sweatshirts, totes and a few childrens items. Teams of servers were prompt and efficient to take care of you, coming so early we actually saw how the dinning room filled right up very fast. We ordered a couple of cold beers to start and the steamers. Then we ordered the lobsters which is all done outside at the lobster tank once your server hands you a small piece of paper to take with you. The paper gets handed off to one of the many staff that will help you select your lobster. My hubby told the guy how big and he was picking out his dinner within a minute. I wanted to be a little more precise ..I like claws and etc. so I unlike my hubby had the guy showing me a few different lobsters before I selected my dinner. The experience is unlike anything else I have done! After we are settled back at our table a large hot bowl of steamers arrive. OMG you don't need to even rinse these and they were outstanding!! The lobsters arrived perfect timing after we devoured the steamers and already cracked! I love when someone does the work for me. Why don't we have a lobster pound in RI?? I loved the lobster and scallops here. They were so kind to my child as he looked through the lobsters to select my meal. After they found the weight he asked for he was able to see where they cooked it. When our scallops arrived to the table they had to have been the best I've ever eaten. Ogunquit Lobster Pound is a regular destination for us on our annual trip to the Maine sea coast. Family friendly, excellent menu variety, delicious New England seafood fare. We dined this year with my mother-in-law and our 4 children. The kids loved picking out their lobster and steamers for cooking and the staff was very friendly. The price is a bit on the high side, to be expected for fresh seafood in a beach town I suppose. My only negative is the main dining area is a large open room and the ambient noise is quite loud. Had steamers, escargot and stuffed lobster tails. The Steamers were very good would have liked some garlic in the broth and more garlic in the escargot butter but both were good anyway. My boyfriend, unfortunately, is allergic to shellfish, but knew how badly I wanted seafood. So, he got a cheeseburger. Came here for dinner around 5:30 and it was full - but we were seated and served quickly. My husband had the lobster alfredo - wouldn't even try to compare it to anything italian but had lots of lobster! It was also on the higher end price wise though - so I would of expected lots of lobster. My stuffed shrimp was pretty good too. Everything was served nice and hot. This is an old school lobster joint - and it is awesome! The place is huge and has a giant pick your own tank outside. I ordered steamers and the Maine lobster dinner - picked a two pounder, comes with choice of two sides - fries and cole slaw for me. Wife had fish fry - fresh haddock light batter and fried perfectly - really good! Lobster and steamers were fresh and just tasted awesome, both came with butter, but didn't need it for either. Fries and onion rings were just okay - kinda like the frozen ones you buy at the store, but if you go here for fries you already misses the boat! I also love that you can order pitchers of beer to go along with your lobsters and clams - really cool! If you're looking for a big, no-frills, kid-friendly place that serves lobsters that were caught just hours ago, this is the place. In fact, you get to walk out to the lobster tank (death row) and pick the lobster you want to be boiled and served at your table. Kinda brutal if you're a Buddhist, but totally tasty. Try a cup of the clam chowder (some of the best you'll ever taste), an order of steamers and a 1-1/2 pound lobster and you will have had a Lobstah dinner to write home about. My six-year-old tried lobster here for the first time and, thankfully, still prefers chicken nuggets. If you have a choice, request a table in the main dining room (not in the bar) to get the full effect of a gluttonous lobster orgy. I wouldn't think of visiting Ogunquit without a stop at the Pound. read more

The food was good but a bit overpriced. I guess that's what you get in a popular tourist area. When I pay that much for a meal however, I really would like to be able to hear the person at the table I'm sitting, but the noise level was so intense we just ate our meals and left. Im pretty sure no damage was done to the ear drums but it's been a few hours and my ears are still ringing. Note to parents who bring children out to eat. Nothing super special about this place. Heard about it from friends. The cool part was picking my own lobster that I got to eat!! I recommend giving it a name before they steam it- heard that it tastes better when you know who you're eating!! Our waitress Kaleigh was extremely nice and helpful but the food was average at best. Plenty of Parking. We parked in the front. We were greeted by the hostess. She sat us in the middle we were ok with that. We sat down and our waiter greeted us. He was nice but seem to not know what he was doing. He brought our drinks and appetizers but no straws, napkins, utensils, or plates. We were so hungry that we just started to eat first. We end up getting the hostess attention after she sat someone down to grab us plates and utensils. It was like this the whole time we were there. As for food. The food wasn't as I expected it to be. Very pricey for everything we got for a family of 5. We got bbq wings, shrimp cocktail, lobster bisque, hot lobster sandwich, 3 kids items, lobster Alfredo, and 2 stuffed tails, lobster pie, and 1 dessert. A lobster pie $35ish (lobster and topped w/ crackers) for about the size of a palm. Only thing we liked was the Maine steamers it was good and sweet.
