Yes, we did have to wait about thirty minutes before getting seated. But dare I say, every minute was worth it! Phayul is a small Tibetan restaurant and I really wanted to try their momos! There is a bit of seating, so we needed to wait for one to open up. However, while we were waiting, we got to place our order ahead. I got the steamed beef momos and my friend got a soup. These are THE BEST momos I have ever had, hands down. The skin has the perfect thickness, and the meat inside was so juicy and generous. I loved every bite so much, one of my favorite dumplings.
Came here for the famous momos, ordered to go & they were spot on! Agree with all others, takes 10 min wait for the order & they very kindly asked if I wanted to wait outside (no AC on a hot summers day). I didn't count of how many momos but the price has gone up to $10 & yes, its cash only. Ordered steamed beef & the filling was extremely tasty, highly recommend! Inside is small but if the temps are neither hot nor cold could see it as a nice place to sit & enjoy. Very much looking forward to going back & trying the rest of the menu.

We visited Phayul as part of a Queens food crawl. As one of the OG momo places, it was a must. There are several types of momos (essentially Tibetan dumplings) available here, including original, steamed, fried, stir fried, and pan fried. At the recommendation of the server, we had the pan fried, which is a combo of steamed/fried. We had the chicken, the beef, and the veggie. All were super savory and delish. Well seasoned and flavorful. Service was kind and attentive. Prices reasonable. We got 24 momos (eight per serving) for around 45 dollars. They also offer fried noodles, thenthuk, laphing, tofu, veggies, pork, stir-fry, and a number of other Tibetan offerings. Someone stated this spot was cash only, and we came prepared, but ended up paying with card, so that part isn't true.
**CASH ONLY** Came at 6 PM on a Saturday and waited about 15 mins for a table. Beef steamed momo were perfect. The hand pull flat noodle soup with chicken was also so comforting - loved the chewy noodles and that they were cut into bite sized pieces! And the radishes. Note: Entrance is on 37th rd, up the stairs.
What started as a low key mom & pop tibetan hidden on the second floor has become more than that with its brick & mortar location. Not the fanciest of places but the food speaks for itself. The spicy beef, peanut chicken and Momo's are to die for. If you happen to stop anywhere from 11-4 you can take advantage of great happy hour deals. I'm no local to NY but this place holds a special place in my heart!. So much so that every time I touch base in NY I take the Q70 straight from the airport to get my first meal in with luggage and all. Will always recommend physiotherapy to anyone that I know is visiting the great city of New York.
A cozy Tibetan restaurant! I was super excited to try Phayul and was not disappointed with their menu and amazing prices. To start off, I got the Butter Tea - unique blend of milk tea and a salty, buttery taste. Worth the try to get the full experience! To eat, my friends and I split Chicken Momos and the Dumpling Soup/Chicken Noodle Soup. The broth was very tasty with generous portions of noodles and dumplings. The soups paired nicely with chili oil! I will say it does feel a bit on the heavier side, so come hungry. The service was excellent - very friendly and accommodating. Loved being able to visit and support this restaurant!

The space itself is very casual, with just a few tables right up against the cooking space. We got a plate of pan fried chicken momos to share, and I'm already thinking about the next time I'll get to have them again! The momo skin was thin and light, with a satisfying crunch on the bottom from the pan fry. They were stuffed to the brim with juicy meat, and were especially tasty with the soy sauce and chili oil available at the table. We got a mango lassi as well, and it had a strong yogurt flavor to it. I hope to try some of the other dishes next time I'm there!
First time at Jackson Heights & tried this restaurant with a group of friends. The food was really delicious, some were spicy in a good way. Thoroughly enjoyed it especially the fried rice. Our group also ordered the beef tongue and said it was awesome but I didn't have any. Massive selection of drinks on the menu too - definitely won't go hungry and thirsty here.
Chili Momo- was blown away by these!! I've had few experiences in my life where you could taste the love put into a dish but this was one of them. Not too spicy, tomatoey sauce flavor, and crispy dough. I can see why this place is so highly recommended. Also loved the interior decor and calming music which felt so cozy and intricate, taking you out of the busy city environment. Service was quick, but not too overbearing, allowing my friend and I to sit and talk. Overall great experience here!! read more
While in Jackson Heights, I had to get myself some momos. Phayul is one of the most popular spots and it wasn't too busy on a weekday. The restaurant had AC and a bathroom on a hot day, so it was a nice stop. I ordered the Mango Lassi ($3.99) and Pan-Fried Momos (8pcs for $12.99). Both were delicious as expected. These Tibetan dumplings are huge, thick, and juicy (much larger than dumplings from any other region). Because I got beef, the meat was on the denser side, but still yummy. I liked how crispy the skin is and the chili sauce on the side definitely gave it that extra kick. Note that while they do accept credit cards, there's an extra 4% charge. Cash is definitely preferred. read more
told my friend I need to check out more food spots in Queens. So she recommended this Himalayan/ Nepalese spot. We got there right before the rush. So we were seated quickly, which was good because we were cold and starved. In this weather, it is the perfect time for a warm bowl of soup. We ordered: Chicken Tangkun Beef Momo (don't call them dumplings) Chives and slice pork belly (I think they have a different name on the menu tho) The food was really tasty and affordable. However, I wished the dishes and soup weren't so greasy. Overall no complaints. read more

The momos here hit the spot I needed on the day we went. It was very hot out and the restaurant is also very hot. They are also cash only. I would be curious to try some of their other dishes and also come back on a day it was not as hot read more

My absolute favorite place to stop when coming to NY very close to the Q70 free bus ride from LaGuardia. This was my first stop and they never disappoint. The food is consistently delicious and the service is friendly. The ambiance is casual and clean. Highly recommend!!! 5 stars read more

Second stop on our food crawl was Phayul. We got some beef momos that were so juicy. The spicy sauces also don't kid around. One had a fermented taste and another was closer to a chili oil. Both added great flavor to the momos. read more

I come back to the original spot every trip to New York! Love their steamed momos, fried momos, tripe, sausage, beef tongue, and basically everything! It's pretty small and easy to miss. I've heard their second location is bigger, but I haven't been yet! read more

Best momos I've had in a while Might be a little hard to locate as this location is on the 2nd FL and there's another one right across. I do hear the 2nd FL location is better so that's where we went and do mind you it is CASH ONLY so come prepared! It's tucked away and kind of like a mom and pop shop What we got: - pan fried beef momos 5/5: these are delicious and a must try here!! They're very meaty and juicy!! - Phayul spicy pork 4.5/5: these were also great but might go better with some rice instead since it's on the saltier end - beef hand pull flat noodle soup 4/5: the hand pulled noodle is like a a cut version of Chinese "Ho fun" ; not too thick and dough just the right amt. The soup base was on the blander side. The meat was also somewhat tender but also a little rough at the same time - gyathuk noodle soup 4.5/5: a little more flavorful than the hand pulled noodle in terms of soup base and they add a splash of sesame oil which gives a nice aroma read more

Food smacks. I visited my GF's BFF to new york and she took us to this place. Didnt think much of it as it was just any other Tibetan restaurant. However, it did meet the criteria as to why it is considered great tasting restaurant. Outside looking in, it looks like any other whole in the all restaurant. Front looks like it hastn been remodeled in years as if you were back in the 90's (think Seinfeild). Theres two sections, downstairs which includes a bar, and upstairs which has more seats and includes the kitchen. My GF BFF was hyping up the place a little bit on the way there, mentioning that you need to pay in cash, and it's considered the best place to have momo. Again, didnt think much of this until we actually had the momos, and man. They're probably the best momo i've ever had. I've had momo here around the bay like berkley and nepolese version but nothing compares to this. The momo is rich, the meat is perfectly tender, and the juice from the meat is savory. I could honestly eat this all day. The momo was probably my favorite from the gyuma and beef + bockchoy. Overall, highly recommend this place to anyone that has not been here that is also a fan of momo. I'm forsure coming back, hopefully this Nov 2025 but well see. Until then, dont sleep on this place!!! read more

Came here to try the famed momos and butter tea as part of my food crawl. I grew up in the area but it's taken forever to get here. The momos were good - plump, filled and had a nice celery flavor in them which is unique compared to what I'm used to (Chinese dumplings). The thick skin of momos they talk about is def present. The butter tea is interesting and definitely tastes like butter with tea and on the salty side. Though there was something cozy about it given how cold it was outside. Would come back ! read more

Confession: I'm not a fan of potatoes. They are bland and starchy and uninteresting. So I naturally found the vegetarian momos dull. But they are improved materially with the delicious and spicy sauces on the table. I'm coming back for the lip-tingling hot sauce alone, which I'm going to slather on the spicy tofu. My soup was quite filling, especially with a lassi alongside - I left with about three dumplings and plenty of broth for later. Great place to stop on a cold day! read more

Disclaimer: Vegetarian Review I was super excited to try Phayul since it has such great reviews but I was a little let down. Here's what we got: Laphing - traditional tibetan cold noodle, I found to be gelatinous but it has good flavor Vegetable Momo - found the texture to be a bit gummy and mushy and bland, not much going Lhasa Fried Noodle - best thing I had but not for the weak! very very spicy so be aware read more
I tried the spicy beef momos. The wrappers were thicker than I like but had a nice crunch and each were well coated in the sauce. 8 pieces was heavy enough for me to have leftovers. While good, the ones by the carts are just as good and way less expensive. Would come back to try some other items but solid experience. read more
Phayul is a classic spot in Jackson Heights for Tibetan / Nepalese food. Ambiance is nothing special, but clean. You come here for the momos and soups, but everything coming out of the open kitchen looked great. Loved the steamed beef momos and beef, radish, Szechuan peppercorn soup. The soup is delicate but also slightly numbing from the peppercorns. Get it with an order of the steamed bread to dip in it. Lapsing is good too, but not a must order for me. Cash only. read more
Ordered a few things for delivery; the beef momos held up well and were still succulent. The Chele beef tongue was a bit spicy and tender. The thenthuk was still warm, a welcoming medley of wide and non-uniform pieces of noodles. read more
The momo are amazing. The noodle soup is on the saltier side. Also tried the milk tea, taste more like a broth than a milk tea, interesting. I went to the one upstairs across from the main restaurant so there's no service and people come mostly for pick up. It's very simple with the bare minimum as this wasn't the actual restaurant front. read more
I saw this place on a Instagram reel and decided to try this place. We went for Saturday lunch....got a table for two quickly. The place is simple and not crowded inside. The staff is nice and service is quick. The food deserves all the four stars. It was fresh, hot and very tasty. We tried - Crsipy Chilli potato, pan-fried veg (potato and spinach) momos, spicy tofu and veg fried rice. All the dishes every tasty and well spiced. We loved their spicy sauces that are kept at each table to amp up the already tasty dishes. My husband tried the butter tea - and explained it as 'interesting experience' We will definitely be coming back to try some more! read more

I crave this exact meal at least once a month, it's always in my meal rotation. I always get fried beef momos with the Lhasa fried noodles with chicken and beef. It's the best combinations of North Asian spices and I don't even have words to describe their house hot sauce, it's so intense with heat but layered with chili and cumin flavors, it burns but it's heavenly. I love Phayul soooo much I was devastated when it blew up on TikTok and it was packed with lines out the door, even at their hidden upstairs location across the street, but no small business deserves it more, Phayul is so good!!! read more

Really fun night trying all the different Tibetan dishes! I don't think I've ever had Tibetan before, so hard to compare, however, compared to some other Asian cuisines, I was expecting a bit more flavor to these dishes. Though they were saucy, they all seemed to be lacking something. The momo's were what we came for, they were enormous! I would have liked something else to dip in them, but we're tasty when dipped in the chicken Manchurian. read more
This place is definitely a great attraction in Jackson Heights. I saw that it had some of the best momo's in the city, and its definitely worth the price. Fresh boiled momos for under 10 dollars, it lives up to the hype. Very nice service. I walked in with a goal to try some of the best momos in NYC and within 20 minutes those momos were in front of me. The ambiance is very clean and great. A cool atmosphere in a hot summers day with good background music, and a very diverse group of families in the restaurant. This was a solid introduction to Nepalese food and momos, and while they did not disappoint for the cost, I was slightly underwhelmed. Soft and plump, but the chicken tasted very chewy. The flavor could be a bit stronger, and I had to use plenty of chili oil to get more taste out of the momos. I want to come back and try a few more items on their menu since the service and vibe was great. read more

I've seen Phayul on a few lists of best Tibetan places in Jackson Heights, and I decided to check it out with a visiting friend. I saw a sign saying that they were in the top 5 for momos during a recent momo crawl, so I was very excited because I've been trying to find the best momos in the neighborhood. Service is polite and food comes out quickly. There is no wait at all to be seated. + Fried chicken momos - $10 - 3/10 - I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were deep fried and bigger than I expected from the picture; the skin is perfect, and I really liked it. Unfortunately, it tasted like they forgot to add seasoning to this batch of filling. There wasn't even any salt in there; I mainly tasted chives and very mild chicken. This was pretty disappointing because I love the momo place across the street from the hospital (Lhasa Fresh Food). + Spicy pork - $14 - 9/10 - This redeemed my Phayul experience because this is one of my favorite Tibetan dishes. I had this originally at Cafe Tibet and I was obsessed with the smoky, sweet and spicy flavor. This is less smoky and less sweet, but the pork belly is very generous and overall it's very tasty and good value. I would come back and try their other dishes, and definitely to get the spicy pork again. read more

Delicious authentic tibeta cuisines. Steamed momos are top tier. No cap. Forget momo contests or momo crawls. Flavor is subjective. But these beef momos are authentic and delectable. $8.99 gets you ten. I love them! read more

Is the parking easy? I know it's queens and it might not be a relevant question but I want to know how easy is to find parking on the street ? Is there a parking garage around?
Parking is difficult. If you park a few blocks down towards Northern Blvd, you might find something.
What's the deal with the new location across the street? Is that the new location or are they keeping both locations?
Both are open. The one on the first floor is a bigger space. They just expanded.
Is the food halal?
Not Halal- if you call them they will inform you it is. However, there's no "halal" certification to back this information. So in a place that sells pork- I would not recommend halal consumers to eat here.
