This place is amazing!! The only con I had was trying to find it. I missed the sign because it's a little faded, but now that I know where it is, I have no problems!! My cupcake was sooooo good! Ive had server all cupcakes from here and they've all been excellent. There hasn't been a flavor I tried that I didn't like! My favorite flavor is the salted caramel cupcake! But I would say, definitely try whatever sample they have out, and whatever else your heart desires. You WONT regret it! read more

UPDATE: Have you ever eaten a cake truffle? Have you ever tried to make cake truffles? I've experienced both and this is how it goes! Making your own cake truffles sucks. Its messy and time consuming, but who doesn't want little balls of cake mixed with icing ((or whatever you want) and dipped in chocolate?! After making my own, I learned that Oh, What A Cake! makes them. I was SO excited! I went pick some up and see how they compared to my own. They had some red velvet ones and lemon ones. I chose the Red Velvet. 5 truffles for $3. Not so bad at all. I was expecting a much better presentation. Mine were prettier and I wouldn't serve there's at a party. The white chocolate covering the cake wasn't anything great, but the cake part was very good. I want to love this place. Its never busy, they staff is nice, they have a good variety, but I'm always leaving without that wow factor. I'm not an expert baker by any means, but feel like my cupcakes and truffles are better. Maybe I need to try their cakes? I just wish they had some by the slice. I can eat, but a whole cake is a little much. Side note: I love the way tihis place smells! Pure sugar...yum. read more

I almost flipped when I saw these massive cupcakes in the display--turns out they actually were, like, special huge ones and they have normal huge ones in another case. I ordered a custom cake and was very disappointed with how the design of the cake came out. It's like the decorator did the bare minimum and forgot about creativity. But the cake itself was good in regards to taste. The customer service was great - just wish whoever I spoke to relayed my ideas to the decorator so that the cake didn't look so plain and terrible. I bought my daughters birthday cake from here. I brought in a picture of the design I wanted and they did a wonderful job of capturing it. I would give it 5 stars except I didn't think the cake tasted very good. Now I do not like butter cream icing and the fondant was not good. The cake itself was just ok. I don't think I would order another cake from here. Now I did have two cupcakes from here as well and they were amazing, the red velvet had the best icing I have had on a red velvet in a long time. I don't know what happened. I got four cupcakes yesterday so my daughter could pick a flavor for her 16th bday cake. None of them were good. She loves a good moist red velvet. These were not. The icing on the vanilla cupcakes was terrible. It tasted like it had fake butter flavoring in it. It wasn't real butter maybe? I'm not sure. Neither of us liked any of the cupcakes we bought so we won't be ordering her specialty cake from there. It's sad. I really enjoyed them a few years ago. The customer service is still great. Oh, What a Cake! did the cupcakes for my daughter's second wedding reception--the first was in New York. The cupcakes from a big name New York bakery cost twice as much and tasted half as good. My mom ordered a cake for my birthday, new the area and she wanted to try this place out. Ordered a cake and requested the cake be covered in sugar flowers, paid the extra $$ for it, and it was written on the form. However, the flowers are normal buttercream decoration, not sugar flowers. Sooo good!!! Yellow cake with chocolate frosting is my favorite. Their cupcakes are always moist They don't look as fancy as gourmet cupcakes with decorations, but they taste just as good if not better. The frosting is soft, which is good. Whenever I go to other gourmet cupcake places the frosting is semi-hard and I don't like that. I've got all my friends hooked! read more

Well, I just got off the phone with Oh, What A Cake! I've been looking for cupcakes for my upcoming Bridal Party but did not find anything that was fitting my budget or anyone that would work with me in such short notice (the bridal party being 2 days away). I went to get an small cake on last minute and thought i was lucky to get the last one" only that they did not say how old it was. That cake was awful. It tasted like when you leave something in the fridge for so long that absorbs the smell of the other stuff. That cake did not taste like vanilla at all and it was very dry too. My fiancee and I looked at 3 cake makers in the Columbia area for our wedding and chose Oh, What A Cake! for several reasons. The first and most important was that we fell in love with the owner, Marcia. She and her staff are wonderful, helpful and always pleasant! While juggling all the last minute details for a large wedding, Marcia has been a breath of fresh air. I enjoy calling her and I feel great when we get off the phone. I would rather work with someone who understand phenomenal customer service than a phenomenal product, but there was no trade-off here. We have loved everything we've tried! We asked Marcia if she could do some things a little outside of the norm and she happily obliged. We went with a yellow cake with a layer of strawberry filling and a layer of strawberry mousse, and a yellow cake with chocolate mousse filling, but Marcia was also very accommodating to experiment with another idea we had as well (which was also delicious... we just decided we needed something for the plain-lovers out there). All in all, I will look to Oh, What A Cake! over and over again for anything from cupcakes to the largest and most important events. I can't say enough about them. read more

Oh, what a Cake did my wedding cake and I would definitely recommend them to all of my friends. Not only was they totally willing to work with me and my limited budget, but the cakes were beautiful AND they tasted amazing. I had four different cakes....chocolate with raspberry filling and chocolate icing, and three layers with vanilla icing: coconut cake with pineapple filling, almond cake with amaretto filling and lemon cake with lemon filling. Each cake was so yummy!! Everyone at my wedding loved them. They also deliver for a very reasonable price. In short, I'd use them again in a heart beat!! read more

I love these cupcakes. They aren't the prettiest, but then again, that isn't all that important to me. They are delish. The cake is a little dry by itself. However, when paired with that yummy icing, it balances out perfectly. My favorite cupcakes are from Cakes Plus, but these are a very close second. Plus, this store is in Columbia, much closer. 2 months ago my daughter turned 2. I was told about this place by a co worker. Not only did they do a fantastic job on the cake I ordered but it was a big hit at the party. I was so impressed that she wanted to get the details of the Bassoon Cake correct and asked for specific dimensions and photos of by daughter's Bassoon. We were VERY pleased with Oh, What a Cake. They have a budget package for budget brides, and it was exactly what daughter wanted! They delivered to the reception in Rockville without a problem. Years back I worked at a cupcake kiosk for Dessert Affairs, however I got tired of their cupcakes and even more tired of their owner. Awhile back I had asked my friend (who also worked at Dessert Affairs) if she knew of any places that made custom cakes in the area when she told me to checkout her favorite place Oh What a Cake! I walked in one day and ordered six cupcakes to test this place out and was very pleased (and yes I am a cupcake expert). A couple days later I brought in a few designs I wanted to put together for my boyfriends cake. Luckily for me even though I was just a walk in the baker was there and was able to immediately take half an hour out of her day to accommodate me and help pull together all my ideas in to one amazing cake. They didn't need much notice only about two weeks and where it was expensive (about $360) it is still cheaper that it's competitors. The only thing I would have liked to see was the top layer of fondant evenly wrapped around the cake and not cut out and put on top (please refer to photo). Overall I will definitely be back next year for a cake for my boyfriends 21st birthday and I'd highly recommend this place to anyone else who needs a custom cake, cupcakes or any of their tasty treats. This bakery is dirty aand the product is nasty. The cupcakes sit for weeks on end until they are sold. they are not fresh. If you order a cake the cake is baked a 5 or 6 days and then is decorated and sits in the frig for 4 to 5 days waiting to be picked up. The cakes come out dry and not fresh. the owner doesnt know how to run a business and uses boxed cake mix. The owner Marcia is a joke, she just sits on her ass not doing anything but according her she does all the baking and decorating..The real truth is she sits on her computer watching videos and doiong crossword puzzels.
