Damnnnn Danyel, back at it again with anotha' review for my Ohana day ones. Since it's been roughly 3 years since my last review, I figured I'd dish another Ohana's way in good holiday spirit. As John mentioned, Vincent is an up down left right cheat code, and one that will win you the game (and the ladies). Every time I walk out of that joint, I'm feeling like a million buckaroos and like I could take on the world if I wanted to. Nonetheless, I don't, and that's probably a good thing since I got some pretty radical moves tucked away in the undercarriage myself. Anyway, as I was saying, Vincent and the rest of the crew at Ohana will get you lookin' your best and will do it in style at a very fair price ta boot. Honestly, there's days I walk into Ohana a mid 6, and leave a solid 8. If you're in the business of getting a haircut, look no further than John and his top-notch crew at Ohana because it truly does not get any more wicked than the skills they've got tucked behind them shears. Been coming here for years and always get a great cut (shout out Darren). Everyone's friendly and the shop has a good vibe. Only suggestion: please put sports or news on the TVs instead of endless clips of people falling and random tattoo shows over and over and over and over again. Lol. read more

I like my haircut without the idle chatter. Ali can sense who wants to talk and who doesn't, either way he gets to work and produces a great cut every time, no matter what direction I go with. Laid back spot, with plenty of "flair" on the walls to stare blankly at. read more

Darren is incredibly accommodating even with last-minute appointments and always nails exactly what I ask for. He's also gently pushed me to try new styles, and now I'm getting tons of compliments from friends. Couldn't be happier with my haircut and him as a person. I highly recommend him. read more

Great experience here. Busy, upbeat old school barber shop. I was a walk-in on a Friday early afternoon and someone was available to take me immediately. While I wished she hadn't eaten so much garlic the day before, she was pleasant, and skilled enough that I walked out with a solid cut and I was pleased at the $30 price, though there was a sign saying prices are going up after July 1. I tried multiple barbers here over several weeks because I genuinely wanted to find a regular spot. I finally landed on one who gave me a great cut. I was relieved -- thought I'd found my guy (Vincent). When I came back, it was a different person entirely. He seemed irritated from the moment I sat down and kept my neck strained at an awkward angle for an uncomfortable stretch. When I politely asked to check on the progress midway through, he snapped, "What do you want?" and refused to let me see the cut as he worked. When he handed me the mirror at the end, corrections were needed -- the very thing I'd tried to get ahead of. I explained that calmly, and his response was to tell me I should "find somebody else who has the patience for you." A coworker gave me visible dirty looks for simply asking questions during the service. A question I asked while paying was flatly ignored. When I asked directly whether he'd prefer I not return, he said no. At no point did I raise my voice or act disrespectfully. I asked reasonable questions about a service I was paying for -- nothing more. Worth noting: while in the chair, I overheard staff loudly airing grievances about their own supervisor/boss, including wanting to remove them from a group chat -- all at a volume every customer could hear. That kind of openness about internal dysfunction tells you something about the professionalism here. I gave this shop more chances than most people would. A customer who asks questions and comes back is an asset, not an inconvenience. That was lost on this team. read more

Came in as a walk in @ around 4 today since it's by my job, I was helped by a nice lady whom I asked to touch up my mullet because the back was too long and my sides needed a trim. By far one of the worst haircuts I've ever received, the technique was nothing like I've gotten before. The barber spent the whole time cutting my back mullet hair to the point it was not there anymore and spent the whole time trimming and "shaping" it when the whole point of my mullet is for the back to LOOK longer By the time I left a tip and walked out I realized she cut almost NONE of my top hair which left a voluminous mess when all other barbers wet my hair and slowly trim my hair in which she hardly did, I should've said something at first but for the time she spent cutting off my back mullet I just wanted to leave. It just looks so off putting and unflattering for my face, it's probably why she kept trying to tell me it looked nice. Others barbers in this shop might be worth a try of course but a huge miss for me *****In addition: I didn't want to add this into my initial review because I figured all barbers this can happen to. But I went to correct this haircut with a barber nearby and they told me that I have two bad marks lefts by the previous hair clippers on both sides my neck. During the haircut the barber was very heavy handed with the clippers, I have skin tags on my neck usually so I assume she literally shaved them off which is why it stung a lot. Just bad technique All around, guess it's my fault to have gone to a new barber definitely will be sticking to my old one. This place has about 10 chairs maybe 12. I forget. in either case all chairs had customers in them except one. There were 3 people waiting. I walked in and asked if they took walkins. Someone answered yes.... and I didn't even have to wait. I got the barber with the empty chair. Lucky me?? You tell me. I showed him a picture from their website, which I will add here, and asked for that cut. Website described it as a regular mens haircut. This barber finished me and I noticed all the other barbers still had the same customers in their chairs. Thats a bad sign lol. He gives me a mirror to check the back. My heart sank after I seen what he did. It wasn't even close to the picture. The left side of my head.... the hair was way thicker all the way down to the neckline (hairline ?) I said "oh oh what happened here?". He asked me if I wanted him to even it out?.. What kind of question was that?.. I said "of course, I can't walk around looking like that in public"? You can still see the difference a little in the pics I'm posting. Gonna give the place a 2 star rating only because I could see the other patrons getting really good cuts. But the barber I got...minus 5 rating. I'm taking it in stride because I know it'll grow back. I laugh about it because I gave the guy a 10 dollar tip. I'm pretty sure this place is good, unless the pics on the website are fake. I might try again but not with this guy. If your gonna go there for the 1st time call and ask who has the busiest schedule, and try and make an appt with that barber. If you do a walkin like I did... walk out if they try and seat you right away. I am 100% positive the guy who cut my hair has a blank appt book. That's why I'm not going to name him. This is my usual barber when I visit back to my home in Los Altos Long Beach. I booked the appointment online and there was a mix up with the barber. My usual barber is Elizabeth but she wasn't available so I chose Liz. I was told she wasn't there and someone else would do the haircut but I would have to wait. Well, the barber I chose was there. I waited about twenty minutes until they realized the mix up. However, I was pleasantly impressed with Liz. She's new to the shop I believe. She did a really great cut and I would use her again. Frankie rocks the house. My teenaged grandsons are picky! And had long unruly hair and Frankie cut it into shape. He talked to them the whole time, was fun and gentle. The entire environment is great. All the stylists are friendly and accommodating. The place is packed with kids, men and women getting their hair done. They even have a great coffee and tea station. I went to the Ohana in LB for my first time. Darren was my barber and he absolutely killed it! I didn't get what I normally do in fear of me not liking it, but Darren did everything perfect. He knew exactly how I typically get my hair cut (middle part/taper etc) so he set my hair up for success for the next cut. 10/10 recommend! The vibes of the shop are all time! read more

Scheduled here to cut my hair after my stylist of 15 years retired. Worst mistake of my life. My hair was past my hips and had layers. I requested a trim of 2 inches in a U shape. Lin H. cut my hair so crooked and choppy. I had to ask her to stop cutting because she did a lot more than 2 inches. She even took a phone call mid haircut. Overall a horrible experience. I would not recommend. I ended up getting it fixed by the lovely people at Black Sheep. My stylist there said that the haircut I received here should have been reported as an assault and I agree. read more

I haven't been to a barbershop in a very long time since I started shaving my head but I've been growing out my beard for awhile and it was time to do something with it. So I scheduled an appointment with any of the barbers for the next day. When I came in right at opening, Lin greeted me right away and took me back to her chair. She asked what I was looking for and since I want really sure I just asked for it to be shorter and neater. Well she absolutely blew my expectations away, she was amazing. Took her time and got everything evened up which want easy with my crazy hair that grows in a lot of different directions. She even oiled up my beard at the end. She was so nice and totally put me at ease the whole time. I can not recommend this shop enough. I would have easily paid twice what they charged me and walked away happy read more

This shop is right near our house so I decided to stop by after I picked my little guy up from daycare to see if they could take him as a walk-in. He's only ever had one cut before and that was at one of those specialized kids places with the car they sit in. At that other place he was a bit fussy and didn't want to sit still. This place is a total vibe! I absolutely LOVED the aloha and Ohana feel to this place. When you walk in they instantly treat you like family. They're also VERY accommodating for their clients which I'm so grateful for. I was a bit nervous as it was my son's first barber haircut aside from the "kids haircut" places we typically go to but Dani was the best hypeman pre-haircut and John made it so comfortable for my son during. Had my first haircut at Ohana a couple days ago. I didn't completely hate it, but I also didn't love it. I went in with some reference images for the haircut style I wanted to go for, the image showed the hairstyle on the longer side with a nice flow to it. The haircut I got was way too short for the reference pictures. It was not at all what I was looking for, it had non of the length or the flow I was hoping to get from my haircut. The plus side is that I am using less shampoo bc my hair is on the now shorter side. The downside is that I don't feel confident with the haircut that I ended up with. I might give Ohana a second go because I really wanted to love it. Maybe I just went at a bad time because it was in the evening, but the staff seemed really friendly and had a welcoming vibe which was a plus. read more
