Went here for dinner the other night with my boyfriend and two friends - the only available seating was outside but it was nice! I'm not sure of our waitresses name but she had dirty blonde hair that was slicked back and pretty eyes - she was awesome! She knew all the specials off the top of her head and gave great recommendations, we all really liked her! The shrimp and lobster bisque soup was really good, the crab risotto balls were okay - wish they had a little more crab meat in them tho - I had the Thai chili salmon with veggies and coconut rice - definitely would recommend this dish! For such a small, intimate location - the Ohana Grill leaves much to be desired. We are residents of Lavallette and for the prices they have I expect high quality food. This was our second time back and once again we were disappointed. The 36 dollar NY strip steak- was well cooked however undersized and simply a very poor choice of meat - tough as leather and hardly edible. The Crab stuffed tuna was 50/50 at best. The crab overlay completely made the dish- where the tuna it was placed over may as well have been cooked in the microwave. If you're looking to pay 100 plus Dollars for a meal please make your way over to chills or Applebee's for similar quality food. I'm disgusted with this place and they will not take any more of my money. The chef needs to be fired and made aware that his efforts are less than adequate for the quality of food he is producing. read more

This place is awesome. Not what you expect from the outside, very unassuming. Once inside you are greeted by very friendly staff. The service was great and food was prepared quickly! We had the ahi tuna and shrimp with scallops. The Tina was the best I ever had! Perfectly cooked and the scallops were sweet and tender. Crem brûlée was awesome per my wife. Not your typical jersey shore eatery. We sat outside tonight on s beautiful night and were treated to not only a great meal but a spectacular sunset. We started with the crab balls and the special was tuna cerviche. Both were out of this world. I ordered the fish special, opaka paka with a fresh corn salsa and my husband ordered the fresh ahi-rare. Both were delicious. I've been here several times and the food is always awesome. Tonight the food was the same but the server was just horrible. I'm sure she is new and in training but then someone should be helping her with her massive area of 3 tables. Asked what were in the spring rolls and she disappeared for 20 minutes. That goodness for a great bottle of wine. 45 min later we got our salad. Restaurant was not as crowded as it is during the summer so I hope they figure out what needs to change. We had an amazing dinner last night, the food was amazing! What impressed me the most was the staff though! We made a reservation for ten people at 945 (since we all work at another local summer spot, we couldn't be there any earlier. We closed early to celebrate an employee birthday) we called 5 different businesses on the island and not one of them would take us at 9:30/945 for ten people bc they all close at 10. So did Ohana but they graciously took the reservation anyway! Our servers were so organized and so polite and accommodating regardless of the fact that we were "that table" keeping them! They didn't rush us at all, and were on top of everything! The food was so good and the whole place is incredibly clean and cozy. The service was great really fast with orders. Waitresses were kind and attentive. Ten of us were seated immediately. For appetizer we had the fried calamari which was excellent and crisp. For dinner I ordered the pomegranate teriyaki chicken which was okay, I anticipated it would taste more like pomegranate but it was just like any other chicken teriyaki. This was first visit to Ohana and everything about our visit exceeded our expectations. It was a first class dining experience with a small town atmosphere. Very accommodating people, outstanding service from Susan and excellent food from everyone in the kitchen. We enjoyed a variety of appetizers to share. Appetizer portions are for sharing. For entrees we enjoyed Thai Spiced Seafood, Blackened Mahi Mahi, Crab Cakes and Grouper special. Everyone was very pleased with the food quality and portion. Quality is more important to me vs. portion, with that said the portions were more than enough. I had a large bowl of Thai seafood variety in an outstanding broth. Finished up with Cheesecake Spring Rolls with Cinnamon Sugar, Bread Pudding and a slice of Nick's special Cheesecake!! No doubt we consumed too much food!! Horrible experience - from the flies, overpriced, incinerated fish with flavorless rice to the smokey dining room, it was a night to forget. The waitress did not return to the table after the food was dropped off except to drop off the check. We were told if wanted to speak with a manager, we could write a note and "they'd get back with us in a week or so". What a shame! It looks like from other reviews this place is inconsistent with the food and staff. What a great find! Can't believe it's been in Lavalette for several years. We dined during Jersey Shore Restaurant Week which was a wonderful deal. The food was fresh, service was fantastic and the setting was lovely. The overall dinning room is small which accounts for the decibel level being high. The Wasabi Calamari was very crispy; i prefer it less fried. I asked for the tuna to be a little more cooked than just seared & they understood perfectly, which is not always the case. If you are going to charge over $30 a dish, please serve vegetables that are not just steamed. The bread is also unacceptable for the price of the meals. They need to work out an air conditioning solution.
