The first Oishii is far off my usual routes, so I haven't gotten there though I heard it's good. This one opened up near campus last week, much closer to me. And after that soft opening with a regular menu, this week they introduced an all-you-can-eat menu as well. So of course I got there as soon as I could. Quite an extensive menu for AYCE too, though not as big as their standard one. And full of interesting stuff. Nigiri, raw rolls, cooked rolls, deep-fried rolls, specialty rolls, apps, ramen, hibachi, and more. I wanted to try everything, but even though I arrived hungry I just couldn't. Maybe 25 years ago I could have eaten twice as much, and when the students hear about this they will clean them out. It's just down from where Japanese Oriental Restaurant used to be, and I used to save up and pig out there with my friends. Now I eat a bit less, but I still figure I had about $60 worth of sushi for $30. I started with seaweed salad- big portion, and very tasty. Fresh and a little spicy. Then unagi- two big pieces, excellent, tender and flavorful. Then maguro- good, melt in your mouth. Next I tried their "dragon eggs"- deep fried avocado with kani and tuna. OMG. Again, a big portion (two whole avocados, halved and stuffed. Finally, two big rolls: the High Street roll with spicy tuna, and the Seashore roll with salmon, kani, and more. Wow. Big, and tasty. Best sushi in town? No, but up there. Really good. Service was great. They open at noon, at least on weekdays, and I was the first one in. The decor is cool- it's an old house, and they have made it modern but with vintage touches. The bathrooms and waiting area are super cool. There's a bar off to one side, a sushi bar in back, and lots of sleek but comfy seating. Also a huge patio and courtyard out front. Free street parking out front (except during rush hour.) Also a small lot in back. Get here. If you like sushi, or other Japanese food, you'll like it. If you like a bargain, you'll love it. $27, yes, not cheap; but for sushi it's not bad, and for AYCE sushi it is a steal. The AYCE is a good deal and pretty yummy! The menu is actually surprisingly varied, you can get all kinds of things. Service was friendly and pretty quick considering. Atmosphere was modern and soothing. You can get ramen, cooked dishes like tempura, salads, all kinds of things. There's a full bar as well, and areas with cozy or romantic seating. The design was actually pretty cool, you could eat with a group or sit up at a bar by yourself and feel very comfortable either way. The sushi menu itself includes more traditional Japanese sushi, which honestly is what I'd recommend from the AYCE menu. They even have sashimi, which is cut thinly- which is fine, if you want more you can just order more, that prevents excessive waste. Most AYCE places wouldn't offer sashimi anyway. But the traditional sushi, sashimi and rolls were the ones we liked best. The more Americanized rolls with the alternative (non-nori) wraps were not as delicious, in our opinion. We couldn't figure out what it was, whether it was the wraps or an ingredient in the chopped sushi roll fillings. But there's a ton on this menu that was good. Will eat here again. Oh and a short note on large groups- maybe this is not the spot to go with a massive group? It's more of an intimate dining experience, although they do seem to allow big groups. I only mention this because I saw a negative review about slow service for large groups before we went and then the evening we went a group of maybe 10-12 college students impatiently waited by the door to be seated, even though the servers were polite and had to wait for multiple tables to clear at the same time to push together seat such a large group in a smallish restaurant- the patrons kept coming in and trying to sit at random tables before it was their turn. If you have a massive group I'd say split into multiple tables or maybe choose a different, larger or chain restaurant, like El Vaquero or Buffalo Wild Wings? Anyway I hope they left a good tip because the workers were very professional and the group was very large and very impatient. read more

OMG YUM. All you can eat sushi for $32.99 and I cannot explain how delicious 98% of the bites were. The tuna mango roll was not it for us, the texture or blandness - something wasn't right. BUT every single other bite was divine. The white tuna is in season and we could not stop! The rice is warmed and delicious! We went at 5pm and sat at the sushi bar and were the only customers at the time. The sushi chef told us "he just works here" and that he doesn't eat raw fish so that was surprising but he did great work so whatever lol. Bathroom was clean, different areas had different vibes and overall I was impressed with what they have done with the space. I think they are new and still working out some service kinks but we 10000/10 will be back! read more

Do not come here for All-You-Can-Eat if you have a group of more than 4 people!! This place is not prepared to serve AYCE to large groups. We came with a large group of 11 people, and it took 2 hours for us to receive our first round of sushi. For context, in each round of ordering for AYCE, the staff here recommended that we order no more than 3 sushi rolls. So we ordered 33 rolls for our first round (3x11), and by the time we got that first round it was 9pm. It was a weeknight so it was hard to justify staying out later for more food, but how is 3 rolls/person fair for All-You-Can-Eat? And after waiting for 2 hours? We saw parties of 2 people come way after us and finish before us. I'm pretty sure they were pushing off our ticket because it was so large. The waitstaff were awesome but SEVERELY understaffed--the entire restaurant was being run by 2 waiters, one of which said it was his first day on the job. I had to go up and find utensils for the table myself because they were so swamped. I didn't fault the staff, they were trying their best, but rather the management's operations. The food was actually not bad--the appetizers were just okay but the rolls were pretty tasty and creative. If the operations weren't so terrible, I think I'd have enjoyed the food more. If they knew it was going to take so long for our whole order, I'd rather them just send out rolls as they were ready rather than send everything out at once. I hope management sees this into consideration, because food-wise this place has potential! read more

We came here on a Sunday night for the all you can eat menu. We were able to get seated right away. As the place just opened recently, there were some open tables. The AYCE menu is very similar to the regular menu. With the AYCE, you order the food you want and that bring it to you. For $27, I expected the sushi to be lower in quality, but it exceeded expectations. The quality of the ingredients were good. The ratio of rice to fillings were really good. There were so many options on the AYCE menu. They did both the basic maki rolls as well as the specialty rolls well. The soups, salads, and appetizers were good as well. The ramen is a full ramen portion. (Some AYCE places that also offer ramen give a smaller portion, but not this place.) We got the Tonkatsu ramen and the noodles had a really good texture. The servers were really nice as well. This place is much better than other AYCE/buffet options around Columbus (and Cleveland). read more

What a cute, fun, place. My seared tuna was phenomenal, and everyone else at the table (three other diners) was happy with their food. I will say this--the service was slow (the two servers were running around and I remember why I hated being a waitress so much) but it was a Saturday night, and they're new, so I'm not about to complain. ZERO STARS Our server was either high on serious drugs or drunk. It took about 8 minutes to get seated then 20 minutes for him to come take our order. Myself and one of my daughters chose the all you can eat sushi and my other Daughter ordered a roll. We weren't offered drinks They just brought us water with no straws . I asked for a drink menu. I ordered warm sake. It never came to the table. About AN HOUR later, they brought out a single tiny plate of six slices of rolled sushi and a few pieces of raw sushi to share between the two of us. We decided to just leave. There was no one else in the dining room when we arrived two more small tables of people came. As we were leaving out, we realized that the table that came in last got their food before us. I will never be returning. This was a terrible experience. . read more

Amazing deal for all you can eat sushi!! The sushi is all tasty and great quality. We had a group of 4 people. We ate at least 12 rolls, a few appetizers, and about 20 pieces of nigiri between all of us. A veritable feast! I have really been missing having an all you can eat spot that is dependable quality in the central Columbus area, and the location could not be better, right on OSU campus. At $32/person that is a huge deal to me. I can eat a lot of sushi. They do have a charge for not finishing/wasting food (that's typical of these kind of restaurants), so go in with a game plan and an honest assessment of how much your group can eat. Also you cannot take anything home if you do the all you can eat option. The service was good, our server was amiable and clearly cared a lot about the restaurant. With the unfortunate closing of the 1126 recently ( I'm still not over it), try this spot out for an excellent deal. They also have a patio! read more
