My sister has been raving about Oishi's HH for quite some time now. We finally got to go last weekend right at 3pm when their happy hour begins. We waited about 10 minutes for a table because it was so busy, for the combination of their lunch special and HH starting. First of all, anything on the HH menu was BOGO! We had a table of 6 get 3 sake's, 3 appetizers, sushi for everyone, and it was just $60. The sushi isn't out of this world, but the price is, and it makes it totally worth it. Oishi is a great sushi place for happy hour! It may not be the highest quality sushi but the service and staff are amazing and you won't beat the prices anywhere! We had an excellent waitress on a trip into Oishi for a friend's birthday and she comp'ed us a bottle of sake for his birthday and gave him a free dessert of fried ice cream. It may not be the absolute best sushi in Houston, but it's my go to place. Sure it's small, but that just adds to it. Very comfortable setting. It can get loud in there, but that doesn't bother me. It may bother you. Don't worry about parking, you can park next door in the lot. There is a cop there directing you to the proper place. Why do I like this place? Food is consistently good and it is unbelievably reasonable. That's what you want in your go to place. Sometimes you just want your sushi fix and you can do that for under $20 for two people. Don't believe me?? Example: spicy tuna rolls $3.00. In fact, most of the normal rolls are $3 to $4. You can't beat that. Excellent squid salad and seaweed salad. They have some crazier combination rolls that range from $6 to $10 but the size is much larger. Staff is very friendly. Great place. read more

I love Oishii! From the multiple sushi rolls to the Bento box for lunch, you really can't go wrong with most things you order here. I like to come at 11 because this place is small and gets packed quickly for lunch. The number 15 bento box with salmon teriyaki is delish! Comes with a miso soup, 6 piece California roll, 2 crispy veggie spring rolls, salad with creamy ginger dressing, rice (which I like to upgrade to fried rice for 2 dollars because it's AMAZING) and 2 pieces of teriyaki salmon. All for 8.95! It's a steal! This place also has a great happy hour. 2 dollar beers and many different food items on the HH menu starting at 3 dollars. Do yourselves a favor and try it out. read more

This is by far the best deal in town for Sushi in Houston. Sushi is better than most but much cheaper. The Happy Hour is ridiculous but you better get there early otherwise you will look like one of those people waiting in line for a $100 32-inch TV at Walmart on Black Friday....You will see what I mean. My favorite place in Houston. Have been going there for years. The staff is the sharpest and quickest you'll find in town, especially given the fact that it's rare to be there when not every seat in the restaurant is filled. They don't take reservations so be prepared to wait or arrive early, especially on busy nights. If that doesn't deter you, then you're in for a treat. They have the best happy hour in Houston that runs from 3-7 every day except Sunday (should be noted that Saturday is only 4-7). I often find myself going and getting an Asahi, a bottle of hot house sake, two basic rolls, and two appetizers for $13.50 as the deal is so good. Not only is their happy hour amazing, the nigiri/maki/sashimi specials they post offer a good deal for a well curated plate. Even at the prices they offer, all of their food is packed with flavor and beautifully crafted/presented. My friend took me to this place during happy hour. When we got there it wasn't packed yet. I decided to get the bento shrimp teriyaki. It was okay at best, and the miso soup wasn't all that great, I've had better. My friend ordered sushi, which of course I did pick at. It was decent sushi for the prices you payed for it. Service was slow but they got the job done. I guess we had gotten there at the right time because when we were leaving there was a line of people waiting for a table. Their sashimi pieces are thicker and less costly than other sushi restaurants which is a huge plus because I typically order 6 pieces of raw salmon/tuna, along with the spicy salmon roll, seaweed salad, and gyoza. I order those all the time because they're so good. They have basic sushi selections with a few specialty rolls but at an affordable price which is why when my friends and I crave sushi, we end up here 90% of the time. Great price, it's our favorite regular sushi spot. Not top tier but still very yummy sushi. There's a wide variety of rolls so you're bound to find something you'll like. I'd recommend making a reservation since the wait can be quite long. And as for parking, it can fill up but there's lots across the street and next door for parking. read more

I eat the "Special A" lunch here 2-3 times a month and it is always fresh- though recently I have noticed their portions are shrinking. Always friendly waitstaff- the special A lunch is 6 pieces of sushi with a spicy tuna roll and miso soup or salad for 13.00. Iced tea extra. I like this place alot! Ive been here about 10 times and i have never been disappointed. What i like: 1. The jalapeno tempura!!! this is the best appetizer ever (for me). Spicy fresh jalapenos filled with cream cheese and battered in tempura. Delicious. 2. price. cheap and still many options and always fresh. Not like other sushi places where there are only a few options for the lower priced rolls. 3. I have 0 complaints when it comes to the sushi. ALways yummy. (I am in no way a sushi expert, I've been to maybe 5 or 6 sushi bars in Houston. This place is just as good as other pricier places.) 4. I like that i can take my 4 yr old daughter with me and don't feel out of place. (like im taking her to a bar.) For purposes of being a cheap, wannabe fancy person, Oishii satisfies all of my needs and then some. Though the rice isn't seasoned particularly well and the fish is not the freshest, it does the job whenever you need quick, fast, cheap...decent sushi. Most nigiri/sashimi pieces run for $1.25 or under which is quite a steal. The service is great most of the time and the servers are really friendly. My favorites here are the chopped scallop handrolls and the Hana Nokoyi aka Salmon Love Flower. My mom who is the pickiest person in the world LOVED this place so be sure to check it out for inexpensive inner-loop sushi. read more

I almost hate to give this place such a good review because it might get even more packed. This is by far the best sushi in Houston. A hole-in-the-wall place with fresh, super-cheap shushi is surprisingly hard to find in a city so close to the ocean. Oishii has an incredible happy hour (buy 1 get 1 free apps, cheap saki and booze). More importantly, their sushi isn't pretentious and covered up with lots of extra unnecessary toppings. Just good, clean, fresh, amazingggg fish. There are some more "extravagant" options available, but I never get them. The one downer is parking. There is hardly any at all, and you will get towed if you park in front of the cleaners or convenient store. read more

Tried this out for the first time after rave reviews from friends. We did not go for happy hour. Went around 8:00 on a Thursday night and had to wait an hour! They do take call ahead wait list calls after happy hour and we had to wait till all of the "reservations" were seated even though those with reservations had to wait at least 20 min. Sushi is certainly cheap but they have a high rice to fish ratio so truly the deal you're getting is not a spectacular one. Overall an ok experience. read more

Hands down my favorite place for their cheap and delicious sushi. I usually order gyoza, rocknroll maki, shaggy dog, and spider roll. They put a generous amount of sauce is on the shaggy dog, which I love! The downside is their long wait time, limited parking space, and the waiter takes a really long time to bring you the check. For my 3rd or 4th visit during happy hour, this was the worst. The waiter never came around to check up on us and so I had to walk over to him by the kitchen to change my order. Again, he would never come over to check on us so I had to ask the guy that came to fill our water to get the bill for me as well as a to-go box, because I wanted to leave. I waited another 5-10 mins before assuming his job is only to walk around and fill up water, so I got up myself and walked over to the person by the entrance and asked to get my bill.
