Mind you, it was hot and I could feel mosquitoes biting my exposed legs. It became unbearable in a matter of minutes. Moreover, my guinea pig requires a temperature controlled environment and can't survive in that heat. We put in an order and asked the server whether we can be seated inside. Once a table was made available, we were told we can move inside. I liked the table we were given in the back. They had three bathrooms inside. My boyfriend was disturbed by the bleeding fish display. He thought it was gruesome. As a vegetarian, honestly, I thought the same. I ate every bite of my curry. The female servers we talked to were nice. But the guy who came to pick up our clean plates wasn't very considerate. He took my rice bowl and it wasn't even empty. Then he dropped something he had taken from our table loudly on the floor right next to us and didn't even apologize or say a thing after. I liked the potatoes and curry I ate. But I'm still suffering from the mosquito bites because I have very sensitive and irritable skin. Plus I thought the service could definitely have been more friendly and courteous.

This place opens at 11am and afterwards I like to visit the farmers market less than a block away. I usually order the avocado toast and a danish to go--but I think my favorite is the fun size mushroom quiche. The patio area is lush with lots of plants and vines which makes it a perfect spot to relax and unwind. Don't forget to try the 1111 Angel tea mixed with fresh lemonade on ice, especially during the summer!

I did spot a yummy bagel vendor-called buckaroo. Their bagels were really yummy made out of sourdough. The farmer's market is right off the main street...so very convenient when visiting. The farmer's market is in the park and there is parking lot right next to the market. A nice, relaxing vibe to go with the family- often there is music at the market.

So being the artsy little town Ojai is there are sooo many coffee shops to pick from. But Coffee Roasting shouldn't even make the list. The coffee tastes old, the blendeds just taste like sugar and EVERYTHING is over priced for what you are getting. To make things worse the staff is and has always been just rude and you end up waiting an hour for nay food you order. I grew up here and its known to just be a tourist spot because its on the main strip but little do the tourists know that there is two other choices within minutes walking distance from Roasting. The only thing i can think to give the place a star for is the fact that it does display nice artwork : / So if you don't know where to get a good cup of coffee i would recommend taking yourself to java Joe's, Bohemia or coffee connection if your willing to drive a bit. I am a local and have been here many times, as it'is in a convenient location to the park, where I take my sons often. I've always enjoyed the lunch fare and coffee. However, the other day the owner was incredibly rude and insulting to myself and my children, reprimanding my two year old son (after I already had) for pointing a little aggressively at the pastry case. I own a clothing store that has many woman with children as regular customers, and I would NEVER have treated a customer of mine (nor her children) with so much disrespect. I felt very unwelcome and I will gladly take my business to the 35 other delicious coffee shops in town. Such a shame because I truly love supporting local businesses. read more

Very interesting in that I wrote a negative review about this coffee house last week, and some how it was removed. I will elaborate more this time. I have lived in Ojai for several years and have tried to like this place. I give it a try every few months and have consistently been disappointed. The coffee is mediocre at best. The strength of the drip coffee varies from warm water to battery acid. A look at the dead bugs in the corners of the pastry case show the lack of care in cleaning. They appear to push the perishability of their baked goods in that they are usually stale. It is loud and the tables are dirty. There are much better coffee options in Ojai. read more

Horrible customer service and horrible coffee. They gave me day old coffee in a latte and I could tell it was old. The gal that served me told me it wasn't old, but it definitely was. Then the owner came over and instead of making the customer happy (me) she gave me attitude and acted as if I was asking for her first born child. She made me a new coffee but she wasn't happy about it. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. I know a lot of people in Ojai and bad reviews travel fast in a small town. read more

Stopped in to have lunch. OMG, I ate their falafel sandwich. My friend had their Messy Pita and another friend scarfed their, as they call it, the #12. Variety and freshness. Such originality, we were all in awe. A simple cup of their joe is freshly roasted, right there on their site. The owner, Stacey, was so proud to show off the place. Felt right at home and highly recommend this to anybody, vegetarian or omnivore. Love the employees with their sweet smiles and helpfulness. read more

But the owner is super rude and has been unpleasant to me and others on many occasions. I love supporting small businesses but not when I cant receive basic human respect. I fully understand the hype about Rory's Place. I took myself out for dinner and my only regret was…read morenot bringing another person so I could order more of the menu. Like any solo diner, I sat at the bar and had the best time chatting with strangers and Andy (bartender and curator of sorts). - thanks for the company! The setting is intimate and can get busy, but thankfully, I came in during the tail end of the season which was still lively but no wait! I wanted a little bit of everything so I ordered the half dozen oysters, uni with roe, Japanese sweet potatoes, hangar steak, and mushroom ice cream to top it all off. I truly have no notes! Both the oysters and uni were fresh and delectable, the Japanese sweet potato was unlike anything I've had before - decadent, if you will, the hangar steak was cooked to perfection and savory, and the mushroom ice cream was reminiscent of maple - so so good! All of this cost me a pretty penny, but totally worth it!
