Love this place! I've come here several times when visiting my aunt in Torrance. I give it 5 stars because I never really eat sashimi, but here I couldn't keep my hands off the Salmon! It was very fresh!!! I also enjoyed the grilled squid with the mayo+lemon, and the Omu chicken fried rice! I always want to come back for more! Your local mom-and-pop Japanese Izakaya. As much as I appreciate the warm, inviting staff, the food is subpar compared to other numerous Izakayas in the area. It's a bit alarming when you see a plate of fries as the profile photo for a Japanese restaurant. Then I realized the nori flavored fries are actually one of their most popular menu items. The tamagoyaki was also a decent dish. Beef tongue was mediocre. Overall I enjoyed the homey vibe but at the same time nothing really wowed me here. read more

This restaurant is truly wonderful! They have the BEST kastu ju (don) around this area. Meat is perfectly cooked, tender and moist on a bed of rice with caramelized onions and Japanese mushrooms with an egg sauce. AHmazing. They're simplest $5 salad with they're homemade miso dressing is great with this dish. Take it from a Japanese person who knows what good authentic Japanese food is... this place is great hands down. It does get really busy at the peak of lunch and dinner so come earlier. The staff is very kind and attentive. It's not your normal whole in the wall place with horrible staff like iccho for example. This is a decent izakaya/ sushi/ noodle joint. I've been here for lunch and dinner. The lunch specials have small portions, so if you're an average American man, you may be hungry afterwards. If you're a small Japanese man, then you're all set. The prices for a lunch set are ok ($11-14). For dinner, they have a moderate izakaya selection. Unfortunately, the steamed clams I ordered were full of sand. Musha and Toriehei in Torrance both have better tasting and more authentic izakaya. Noodles here are also ok. I-naba, which is several doors down, has tastier handmade udon and soba. The sushi at Ojiya sushi is just average. In other words, this place is alright but not fantastic. read more

Amazing! The food was delicious which is the most important part. I had the udon soup and it was super filling! There were plenty of noodles in it and some shrimp tempura. Stay just behind at the Residence Inn Torrance and walked over with my family. Salad was plentiful; fried chicken dry on the outside moist on the inside and hot; raw oysters fresh with awesome sauce; fried squid legs crisp and chewy; beef tongue cooked to perfection; and the ramen simply divine. My kids ate everything without complaint which is high praise for them. Sake was boiling hot, too, and love it. Only negative was that my daughter thought the ikura was a little sweet, but my wife disagreed. All at reasonable price. I highly recommend Ojiya, and we will be back again. read more

Went on a Saturday night and waited so long just to get noticed ! Then was taken to the back dining area where there was at least 10 ladies talking very loud . The server sat us right next them. You would think we were a part of that party. We asked to sit elsewhere. So now we are at the counter , server doesn't come to take our order for quite some time. This is the only other place in the immediate area that has decent soba other than Soba Sojibo. The nice thing that this place does is prepare a nice dashi based dipping sauce, which has the deep smokey, woody sent of katsuo like Otafuku. This is, however, no Otafuku. The number twenty set (I think) offered quite a lot of food for roughly $12.00. I ordered the last portion of chicken gizzards they had (it will no longer be sold, for $6). The gizzards were sauteed with garlic shoots. A little hard, they could have been coked a little longer, but that really doesn't stop me from eating organ meat. The major downsides to this place are the slow, and off-timed service (my friend got her food almost 25 minutes after I did), and super-sweaty-guy. It's possible my gripes aren't necessarily valid for this joint all of the time, but that was what I experienced. Overall, I thought the food was good. I'd eat here again. read more

OMG I've worked across the street from this place for the last 15 years and never had lunch here until today. Tip: come early, we got there around noon, perfect timing , we were able to get a seat. I eat Japanese food all the time and usually go a couple of doors down to Inaba.. Sushi was pretty good but the Pork Katsu was really good!!! Wow can't wait to come back here for lunch next week~ but they need more wine, I would like to see a Chardonnay on the menu... Enjoyed everything I had ! read more

I like the interior, modern with lil rustic feel to it. The quality of food is pretty good compare to most of the Japanese restaurants in south bay. Servers attend to all the tables as customers needed their attention(the Asian waitressing system) and were very friendly. We got soba sampler, sashimi(very fresh & they use fresh wasabi), grilled liver & beef tongue were very tender & flavorful. It didn't get 5 stars bcos grilled rib eye was flavorful but luke warm when it arrived at our table and the ice-cream was toooooo small (kids scoop)! I've been here four separate times without a reservation all on Thursday nights. It's consistently reliable, Japanese tapas with cold beers and friendly wait staff. I especially like how the ambiance is relaxed casual and you can actually have a conversation unlike other izakayas where the BGM is loud. The seating is limited and there can be up to 30min wait sometimes, which is probably the only negative thing I can think of here. Seating is more for small parties but have a few seating in the back for larger groups. My family has been here over 10+ times and the most positive thing is consistently great food no matter what you select on the menu and we have ordered almost everything now. Technically it is izakaya style so it's supposed to be more for drinking and appetizers. The sushi quality and meat quality is excellent and they have a good selection of items. The soba is delicious and would recommend finishing with that especially after alcohol. Prices are high for little quantity if you are comparing to other cultural foods; however, compared to these same izakaya style places this one far exceeds the others in overall food quality, consistency and especially price! Family of four ordering approx. 15 items with a couple beers and sake was $120. The same quantity anywhere else would be anywhere from $180-220 and others food quality are far less consistent. came here on a sunday to pick up an uber eats delivery. walked in and all four or five workers looked at me, but no one said "hello" or "one moment please." so i had to walk to the back and ask for my pickup. they said it was being worked on. fifteen to twenty minutes later, i asked the young japanese girl to check on my order and she said she would. she went into the kitchen, came out, and started doing other things without giving me an update. so i asked the other young girl (non japanese) if she could check on my order and she told me she was busy. she was more concerned with checking the incoming order tickets than helping me while i stood next to her. i asked this young girl for the owner and she said he was too busy to come out of the kitchen. i began to tell her how poor their service was from the moment i walked in, but she kept trying to talk over me and told me "don't undermine me." the owner finally came out and i explained the situation to him, especially regarding his two young employees. i tried to explain that we were technically business partners because his restaurant and my employer (uber/doordash) made a contractual agreement to work together. as such, a delivery driver (or customer) should be treated with respect. but his workers treated me like a homeless person on the street, ignored me to the maximum, promised to check on the order but didn't, and had the audacity to talk back to me afterwards. i would have happily waited twenty mins had they given me a polite update from the beginning. that's all it takes, a friendly hello and a wait estimate. that's all we want as a business partner/customer. read more

So good! we ordered Ten Zaru Soba (nice and cool udon w/ assorted tempura) and Tarekatsudon (pork cutlet in a rice bowl). The restaurant has a nice/relax atmosphere, friendly service, and steady stream of customers (we went for lunch). My udon was refreshing and perfect with crispy pcs of tempura slices while my partner's pork cutlet was delicious with (sauce seasoned?) rice. We usually get the premium sashimi sampler, as it frequently has unique fish from Japan you don't find in many South Bay sushi bars.
