Located in the Mitsuwa food court. Overall the food was tasty but the actual restaurant is obviously better. The tempera could have definitely been crispier and the rice was a bit overly sauced for my personal liking. I ordered on the kiosk and got a printed receipt and had to wait around in front for them to call my number instead of having a buzzer. I don't think the TV screen was accurate either. That was a bit of a downside since seating can be limited, especially on the busy weekends. My bowl came out to be about $18 and came with a miso soup!

Always heard about this place and wanted to try it. Heard one opened up in Pasadena and while using the yelp app while I was in Torrance, saw that there was one here too! Because it was our first time here, we had a lot questions and we received a ton of recommendations. The employee who helped us was great and we ended up ordering the following: -Chicken Tempura Plate -Vegetable Tempura Plate Everything was hot, fresh and cooked to perfection! Definitely made to order because the tempura was the perfect crispiness and piping hot. What makes this so good is their special tare/tsuyu they make to dip your tempura in and it's to die for! I can drink a gallon of it! The half-cooked egg was the perfect runniness (sp?) to put over rice and the miso soup was a great starter for the palate. Carlos knows what he's doing! There's a lot of great food out there and this is definitely one high on top of my list. Will definitely be hitting up the Pasadena location as it's closer to me and adding it to my dining rotation.

Didn't know there was a parking lot in the back. This place is awesome. Sign up sheet for tables. Great food and service. We had Grilled Shishito Peppers, Combo Small Tempura Bowl and ColdSoba Noodles and Vegetable Tempura Plate. Delicious! Ok, bye.

Carlos Junior is a famous figure in the Japanese and Japanese American spheres. This was my second time trying some of his tempura, and it did not disappoint. The crispy buttery outside contrasts heavenly with the soft warm inside of the tempura, and the rice is a perfect combination. Service was great, but the ambiance is more family-friendly in the mitsuwa marketplace. I really can't stress enough how amazing these tendon bowls are. Definitely try it when you're in the area.

I'm very familiar with their DT Torrance location and LOVE THAT PLACE! But truth be told, I came through the Mitsuwa food court having no idea what to eat, but knew I'd end up with grub from one of the spots here. Then I remembered telling myself the last time I came through that this spot will be my "next time." So here we are! To compare, I got the same one I usually get at the DT Torrance digs: special tempura bowl... ... and they did NOT disappoint. Everything was made to order HOT. Tempura batter was seasoned well, thin and crispy and didn't take away flavors from all of the components that came with it: fish, shrimp, pumpkin, shishito pepper seaweed, enoki mushroom. And that tempura egg that made the rice so creamy! They seasoned the entire bowl with tempura sauce so you didn't even need sauce to dip them in. (I'll be honest: I got extra dip because I'm a dipper, and also got ginger to cleanse the palate.) Miso soup was amazing! Broth had depth and light at the same time and full of flavor. I was really happy with this run. FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 4.Little interaction, and staff were friendly. VALUE: 4. PARKING: Located inside Mitsuwa. Plenty of spots on the lot. 60 minute limit, but I've never seen it enforced. Finding a spot was never an issue either, as many times as I've come through. OVERALL: 4.5. I am an absolute fan! There will be future visits!!!

The original Tendon Tempura Carlos Junior in old Torrance is one of my favorite spots. I was so excited to hear that they opened up a second location the Torrance Mitsuwa. It was only recently I got to check this second spot out. Located at the Mitsuwa Marketplace food court, at those Tendon Tempura, you place all the orders up front at the counter. I chose to get their Chicken Tempura bowl and my mom got the Special Tempura bowl. Both were $16.99. They make everything fresh upon order. I did notice however that they made a mistake when our orders came out and they had to bring it back to the kitchen. I'm not sure if this is back and forth is what caused our tempura to not be too crisp when got our order. This was a bit unfortunate as one of the things I always look forward to when dining at the original Tendon Tempura Carlos Junior is their crisp tempura. Overall the flavor was good but the tempura was soggy. I was a bit sad that the tempura wasn't crispy and I do feel the original location is still the best.

Had no idea they had a food stall in the Mitsuwa at the Del Amo mall. Ive been to their restaurant in Old Torrance. Delicious.. i love their tempura.. light texture and so good, perfect crunch. Service was quick. You irder and they hand you a beeper of some sort and once it beeps your food is ready . Since it's inside a Mitswa with other food stalls its pretty loud in there. But great option if you don't want to have a long wait at the restaurant ..

Came during opening hours and already was a line formed at 11:15 They offer the beef bowl set with tempura at 17.99 Only during November. The shrimp were quite smaller than I expected. I would assume tempura sets use Jumbo Shrimps if no beef bowl is included. The beef tasted normal gyudon style, while the poached soft boiled egg went nicely well when lathered on top of the bowl. Miso soup was a little on the saltier side when hitting the middle of consumption. I will try their shrimp tempura sets next time to debunk if they do have different size dab shrimps as I didn't see any jumbo sized ones yet in this portfolio.

Yum! This tendon tempura Carlos jr is located in the Mitsuwa food court and is just almost as good as the main location! The only thing they are missing is their raw dishes. It's always random to read how Carlos is a Peruvian man who learned how to make tempura in Japan, but hey. It works! Some of the crispiest and tastiest tempura around. You order at a counter and give your number and they call when you're ready and you can join your party at a food court table. Food can take some time but that's because it's made fresh to order!! I love getting the soba and tempura combo but I got the edomae bowl last time because they were having a special with 2 extra tempura! Every bit was amazing. The fried unagi was great but my favorite tempuras are always the egg, shrimp and the pumpkin! The fried egg is so unique and always perfectly cooked!! Mitsuwa is very casual but I love it because you can order dishes from so many restaurants and reconvene together. Plus you can even grab something from the market to snack on! Tendon tempura Carlos Jr is definitely one of the better restaurants so don't miss it.

I'm a big fan of the Old Town Torrance location. I was excited to see them open at Del Amo. This is a food stall inside of a Japanese supermarket of Mitsuwa. You order at a kiosk (no cash) and they call your name and you find a table. The food court is noisy. Now, the food. The Tempura was not crispy. I'm not sure why. I can see them frying batches to order. My only guess is that they didn't fry things well or they poured some sauce over it somehow which sogged it out. I sat down to eat it within 60 seconds of them calling my name. The shishito pepper was only half battered. My guess is the quality control fell through because they were busy. The soft egg was good. The miso soup was really salty. I was slightly saddened to see it being portioned out from what looks like an automated hot cocoa dispenser. The rice they served it in was good. I didn't really enjoy this experience. I'll stick to the main restaurant. Bottom line: Would I go back to this location? If they looked busy, then no. There are other places in this food court I'd try first that don't rely on frying things.

At first I thought this place was a play on Carl's Jr and I got a good chuckle when I walked by... but upon closer inspection, I saw Carlos' backstory about his passion for japanese culture and tempura!! Heard a lot of hype about tendon tempura so I knew we had to try it... but imo it's overrated. It is freshly fried tempura and quality ingredients tho. Big portions and shareable - Edo Mae Tempura Bowl $21.99: the eel and octopus/squid? were my fave tempura pieces in this. A hearty and filling meal! You have to get this if it's your first time here. - Hot Soba (side) $6.99: noodles didn't have the chew that I'd hope it have. Basic sukiyaki like soup. Big portion for a side. Wouldn't get it again - Maitake Mushroom $1.79 : Interesting texture. Less crunch and more of like a block of air. Wouldn't get again. - Shrimp Tempura $2.99 : yum! can't go wrong. - Half Boiled Egg $2.49 : Ooey gooey orange center. slight tempura crisp on the outside. Meant to make the rice creamier I think, but imo I could do without On a Saturday around 3:30pm there was little to no line. You order form a self service kiosk. If I were to try this again, it would def have to be at the flagship store where I could have more pickled veggies (only limited to one small container per person).

This is a new Tendon Tempura Carlos Junior location in the food court at Mitsua Market Del Amo. Like most of the other fast casual stalls - they are cashless. Read about Carlos's tempura journey as you wait for your turn to order (love that personal touch). Order at the oversized tablet next to the large case of spam musubi and pick up your order by number at the window. I was very excited about my tempura bowl. The shishito pepper and seaweed were nice and crispy. Rice hot and tempura sauce poured over to flavor the rice. The fried egg was just a phenomenal touch. My only complaint was that the tempura shrimp at the bottom had gotten a little wet and the batter had just about fallen away from the shrimp before I got to it. Wish the shrimp was a little closer to the top of the pile. All in all, wonderful lunch and I would absolutely go back again.

We were seated immediately with no wait during dinner time, and there's a large free parking lot, so getting in and out was hassle-free. The skewers were good overall, but one thing to note is that they don't have that smoky, charcoal-grilled flavor. If you're expecting a traditional yakitori experience, just keep that in mind. What we ordered: - Momo Kizokuyaki - 7/10 A classic choice. The chicken was juicy and cooked well, but it leaned a little under-seasoned, so it didn't leave much of a lasting impression. - Teba - 6/10 Chicken was kinda dry but seasoning was good. - Harami Beef - 7/10 The beef was tender and cooked nicely, but it also lacked a bit of seasoning. Good texture, just missing that extra punch of flavor that would've made it memorable. - Karaage - 8/10 My favorite dish of the meal. The portion size was just right, and the chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and well-seasoned throughout. - Soboro Don - 8/10 This reminded me of an elevated Yoshinoya beef bowl--in the best way. It had richer flavors, better-quality ingredients, and the fresh ginger added a bright, flavorful contrast that tied everything together. Beyond the food, the service really stood out. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, respectful, and attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant was also spotless, which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I'd definitely come back. While a couple of the skewers could use a little more seasoning and that signature smoky flavor, the friendly service, clean atmosphere, easy parking, and solid food make this a spot that's worth checking out.

The waitress taking my order had no personality and didn't check in on me after my food was brought over. I decided to bring my family for dinner, shortly after their official grand opening. I called in to ask if they had a table for four and I was assured they did have one available and would hold it for us over the next 20 minutes. We arrived within 13 minutes and were told that they didn't have anymore tables available and when I mentioned I'd called and one was promised to be held, I could see the "oh crap!" Look on the hostess' face. I was told once again that they didn't have a table available for us but we could sit outside in the cold, with no heater. Since I'd hyped the food up so much, my wife was eager to try it, so she asked that we sit outside and dine there; so I obliged. Service was once again mediocre. The food was tasting great when suddenly my wife spat something out; upon further examination it was literal broken glass! Seriously, broken glass! I immediately took the plate to the manager and he was apologetic and offered to "comp everything" or remake the dish. My wife was still hungry so she opted to have it remade. For me, the experience was ruined. I couldn't finish my meal, while my wife ate most of her remade meal. Once we got the check, my wife's meal was removed. I chose to not pursue the offer to "comp everything," further so I paid and we left. We've not been back and we've told everyone about our experience

Went with a chef's sampler of skewers and got four delicious yakitori skewers. Got delicious chicken wings and chicken karaage that were addictive and the perfect bar food. After eating these dishes, we got a piece of wagyu sashimi (raw) with uni, which was a great bite and we closed our meal with some yuzu snapper carpaccio. Overall, I'm so glad we came here for an after-work meal. It's not cheap, but I was pleased with the portions and the quality of everything we had. We will definitely come back to get some more meat and beer!

DO NOT GO HERE. This was our first time at Hachi Izakaya, and it was hands down the worst dining…read moreexperience of my life, solely due to a server named IYA. We arrived right at opening (5:15 PM) without a reservation. We were told we could sit if we left before 6:30 PM because of a later booking. Since we were just having a quick dinner (4 adults and 1 child), we agreed. However, the terrible hospitality started immediately when she forced our group of 5 into a tight 4-person booth, making us extremely uncomfortable. Throughout the meal, IYA made us feel incredibly unwelcome, constantly rushing us and giving us dirty looks. Even though we were well aware of the time, she aggressively pushed the dessert menu and called for "last call" at 6:00 PM just to kick us out faster. When we politely asked for extra broth, she snapped that there would be an extra charge with a terrible attitude, then literally slammed the dish down on our table. The absolute worst part was her handling of my Service Dog. As someone who legally requires a service animal, I had my dog right next to me. Without even asking if it was a registered service animal, IYA rudely and aggressively demanded that I put the dog on the floor. Her complete lack of education, empathy, and legal understanding regarding service animals is deeply concerning and discriminatory. If you work in hospitality, basic manners and knowledge of service animal regulations are mandatory. IYA was incredibly rude, ignorant, and unprofessional. We will NEVER step foot in this place again. Management needs to seriously retrain or re-evaluate this server.

They not only had a space that big, but it also felt private. The staff was super attentive. The food is great. I ordered a rainbow roll. All the fish was super fresh. Even though we had a large group, we all got our food at around the same time. It was a great lunch for our work pal.

We chose Ise-Shima at the Miyako Hotel for an early birthday celebration with my parents, wife,…read morechildren, sister and nephews. It should have been an easy win. The room is beautiful. The chefs are visible. The staff is plentiful. The music is good. The atmosphere feels like the kind of place that understands hospitality. Unfortunately, the experience never quite came together. The first challenge was the temperature. The dining room felt more like a sauna than a restaurant. To his credit, our server Arthur worked hard to help and eventually got management to increase the air conditioning. He was easily the standout of the evening and did everything he could to salvage the experience. We ordered extensively, including the $130 Ise Course. Some of it was quite good. Some of it was surprisingly disappointing. The grilled lobster with yuzu miso and kinome was completely overcooked, dry and buried under too much sauce. One of the signature dishes of the course ended up being one of the weakest. The grilled yellowtail suffered from the same problem: dry, overcooked and lacking the care you would expect from a restaurant presenting a seasonal multi course menu at this price point. The larger issue was organization. Dishes constantly arrived with servers asking, "Who ordered this?" or "Who has the udon?" The dining room felt strangely disconnected from the kitchen. Food runners seemed unsure where dishes belonged, which created confusion throughout the meal. Then things really went sideways. Trying to be respectful, I asked that my parents be served first. Everyone eventually received their meals and continued eating. The problem was that my Ise Course never arrived in sequence. My family finished their meals. My children finished. My parents finished. My sister finished. And on my birthday, I sat there alone waiting for several missing courses while everyone else watched. A seasonal set menu is supposed to feel paced and intentional. Instead, it felt forgotten. Arthur again stepped in and spoke with management. The restaurant offered complimentary desserts, which was appreciated, although somewhat awkward because my meal was still arriving while everyone else was already moving on to dessert. What happened next genuinely surprised me. When the bill arrived, management returned and asked whether we would be willing to authorize an additional charge so gratuity could be increased from 18% to 20% because of the size of the party. After the heat, the delays, the confusion, the overcooked centerpiece dishes, the missed pacing and spending a birthday meal eating alone after everyone else had finished, it felt like the wrong conversation to be having. I don't enjoy writing reviews like this because there is clearly talent in the building and Arthur deserves recognition for how hard he worked. But hospitality is ultimately about making people feel cared for. On this visit, despite a beautiful room and some good food, that never happened.
