I am amending my review - it's been awhile, and the office changed. After a long history with Okamoto Dentistry, I was dropped, as my insurance was no longer accepted here. I received notification, with the disclaimer, of "we are all about our patients." No, you are about the $$$. I was doing two cleanings annually here, and two treatments -- at their recommendation -- with a periodontist in Pasadena. Since migrating to Canada Dentistry in Glendale, I am no longer subjected to the cronyism, and overpriced referrals. The front office staff was great, and the quality of the dentists excellent, but of course since I was cutoff from using these services, it is a moot point. Christian symbolism abounds on their business cards and signage, but not in their economic policies regarding longtime patients. read more

I've been having some weird tooth pain/sensitivity for a couple weeks so I finally called and they squeezed me in quickly. I'm not a big fan of going to the dentist but it was actually a very efficient and pleasant experience. They did a quick x-ray and ruled out big issues then Dr. Bigley checked my bite and noticed that one of my teeth was up a little high. He said that that, plus some night-time grinding, was probably causing the problem, ground the tooth down just a little until until it was even with the others, and a day later it's already feeling better. He also walked me through my x-ray, explaining ligaments (which I didn't even know were there) and other parts of tooth anatomy which was really interesting, and the charge (I don't have insurance) was very nominal, especially considering that they had snuck me into their schedule. I don't have a lot of dental needs but when I have, both Geri Lynn and Dr. Bigley have been great, very caring, low-pain, and explaining what they were doing. Dr. Geri Lynn Okamoto is a GREAT doctor and endodontist, and not just some ordinary dentist....and I will tell you why! A few weeks back, the day before Thanksgiving, I was scheduled for a root canal the following Monday, but my infected eye tooth suddenly flared up with horrible pain. Usually I'm not too sensitive to tooth pain, but this pain was 10/10, way off the charts! I texted my normal dentist who was vacationing in the Bay Area and he called in a Rx for Tylenol 3, which had almost no effect on the pain. By Thanksgiving evening I had had ZERO sleep and the whole right side of my face was horribly swollen up. Pain was still horrendous! I got on the Internet to find an endodontist who would see emergency patients, I emailed and left voice messages for four of them, begging for a Friday morning appointment...and guess what? Three of them never even bothered to return my plea for help, while Dr Geri Lynn Okamoto returned my call (on Thanksgiving) within 30 minutes!!! Over the phone, she told me how to get thru the night by taking extra ibuprofen, and she agreed to come in and perform an emergency root canal at 8 am the next morning--while all those other lazy dentists were still digesting their turkey dinners, the day after Thanksgiving! At 8am, sure enough, she showed up to open her office, and she quickly performed the root canal, alleviating all of my suffering...a very, very pleasant and very professional dentist/endodontist, who I will return to again and again! I've worked in medicine for 20 years, and known dozens of doctors, but I was instantly impressed by Dr. Geri Lynn Okamoto...she stands out as one of the best! . read more

I used to go to Dr Okamoto's office when I was a teen, in fact my whole family did and his staff and he were so wonderful. I called yesterday for an appointment and the office staff was rude and dismissive. I had an unpaid bill of 67 dollars from 2001 and I was told I needed to pay that before they could schedule an appointment. I paid it then was promised a return call for an appointment. I waited but no call so I called back I gave my information and insurance and was told I would have to pay for full mouth xrays upfront and my insurance would reimburse the patient. The staff said,"do you understand"? (twice). it was disappointing how I was being spoken to and there was no sense of kindness or urgency since I explained Dr Okamoto put my first filling in when I was 18 and I believed it had broken. I had an appointment scheduled for Thursday; I cancelled today! Shocked I wasn't charged a fee for that. read more

I hate going to the dentist. No really. I hate it. I'd rather see the doctor. However, Dr. Okamoto and Dr. Au are great. My parents have seen Dr. O before I was born. . . I would have seen him, but the one time he went to go look at my teeth, I tried to bite him. Anyway. . . so fast-forward through my life, I've seen more dentists than I can even count, and I've hated the experience(s). Well, last year when I was prego, I HAD to see a dentist. There was no more avoiding. I was long overdue for a check up (I know. Horrible.), and I had a cavity. . . or two. . . okay! okay! I had three. So I scheduled an appointment. I got to see Dr. Au. . . he's great. He talked me through the entire procedure. . . an hour per tooth, NO PAIN MEDICATION. Straight drilling. . . OMG. But it wasn't as horrible as I remember, and he was very soothing. . . as far as dentists go. The staff is just as I remember them - awesome, friendly, knowledgeable. Will I be back? Well, if I had a choice, NO because it's the dentist, but I will be back if/when I need to go (which is actually this week). I will and have recommended this office. :o) Great staff, Dr. O and Dr. Au are both great. read more

Dr. O and Dr. Geri are both great dentists. My kids love them too. Service is always friendly and appointments are pretty on time which is excellent. On their intake form it asks, "Do you plan to keep your own teeth your entire life?" Man, this question scared me into being better about flossing. i love to eat and I really want to keep my teeth as long as possible! read more

Nothing negative to report on the dental services; however, the administrative side of the practice was disappointing. I explicitly asked that the administration prior authorize my x-rays and cleaning before booking these procedures. After assuring me that they had done so and that they would be covered in-network, I went forward with the x-rays and cleaning appointments, only to be billed with my insurance covering less than a third the total cost of what the practice billed me for. Because the services were billed through insurance, my insurance company now will not approve x-rays for another 5 years. I would have x-rays and cleaning covered 100% by an in-network provider, which is what I asked Okamoto Dentistry to confirm prior to proceeding and was told by the office administration was the case. My trust in the practice has been undermined, and I cannot recommend it. read more

First off, I wish I could give separate reviews for different aspects of this dental office, but I can't, so I have to give it my honest opinion. First off, I've been going to see Dr. Geri for over 10 yrs now and she's been a great dentist. I always enjoy seeing her and having her take care of my teeth. If I could give her a separate rating, i would give her 5 stars. But lately, it's become so impersonable. They schedule me for cleanings with a hygenist and I'm in and out without even seeing Dr. Geri. I think recently i went a couple of years without even seeing Dr. Geri. I finally had to ask to specifically have her see me on one of my visits. So this was a little annoying. Secondly, if you ever miss an appointment or have to reschedule, they put on you this waitlist/cancel list and it's so impossible to get an apptmt after that. The fist time i missed an appt, it was more than 6 months until I was able to get scheduled for another one. I'm not sure if this is just front office inefficiencies or what, but this is way too much of a hassle. Things come up, the apptmts you schedule a year in advance dont always end up working when the time actually comes to see the dentist, so not being having the flexibility to reschedule on short notice is really frustrating. Lastly, and this was the deal breaker for me. This last time around, I was overdue on a payment for an extra charge that my insurance didnt cover. I recently got married and with the wedding and long honeymoon, this rolled over for several weeks. When i finally called to take care of the payment, i explained i would be sending in the payment shortly, apologized for the neglect etc etc. At the end, i tried to schedule an apptmt (this was one of those cycles where I missed my last appt and no one had called me back to reschedule my appt for over 6 months again). The woman in billing basically told me they wouldnt even schedule me for an apptmt until i cleared by balance. She said their policy was "no apptmts until your balance is cleared"! well, this was the deal breaker for me. After spending the last 10 yrs with these guys, i really felt insulted by this treatment. I had never not taken care of my bills from them in the past and to be a long time customer and be treated so poorly is really really disheartening. So, i will be looking for a new dentist this time around. These guys have just become a little too commercialized for my taste. They've lost some of that charm and appeal of making you feel warm and welcome since i first came to see them many years ago. Hopefully they get back to their roots and remember that patients and patient care should come first and not be so obsessed with making a dollar. read more

If 10 stars were possible on Yelp - this office would get 10! I have gone to Dr. O for more than 20 years. I love him and Dr. Geri both. They run a tight ship, always on schedule so you don;t sit in the waiting area for more than a few minutes. I have referred about 30 people to them and everyone LOVES them. Every single person on the staff is kind and helpful. I have sent them a few people who are terrified of dentists and who have avoided going for years so now their teeth are a mess. Dr. Geri is particularly good with these folks. She is compassionate, patient, non-judgmental. If you have to go to the dentist ( and yes we all have to go to the dentist) you can't do better than this one! read more

Was a reliable and good client for close to 14 years. I understand doctors and staff retiring. I liked my hygienist. I did not like being told I had to get xrays on a few occasions, and being lied to about xrays being required by the ADA and made to feel like crap because I could not afford xrays. Two cleanings a year with great teeth and a loyal client meant nothing. When I cancelled my appointment and told the receptionist I would no longer be going there....nothing. After all those years and a few referrals, not even a call asking why or what can we do. Obviously they don't care. They are now money driven with little to no regard for their clients feelings. read more

Been going to see Dr. Geri for 10+ years. Wouldn't trust anyone else with my teeth. She's meticulous, gentle, and highly skilled. Great staff also. I first started going to Dr. Okamoto when I was about 7 yrs old. I never knew just how great he (and his office) were until I was older and had to experience some other dentists. As soon as my insurance changed I ran back to him!! I'm in my early 30's now and don't ever want to leave! Much of my family goes to see them and everyone loves them. The office staff is like a warm welcoming family and the dental hygienists are great too. But Dr. Okamoto is just the best, I never dread going to the dentist, I look forward to seeing them :-) read more

I had some major dental work done well over 20 yrs ago by dr okamoto..root canals crowns etc...all the work he did is still holding up like new..the best teeth i have are the ones he repaired..work done byn other dentists in the years after has all failed..i wish i didnt live 3000 miles away from dr. okamoto so i could have him save the rest of my teeth..dont hesitate to have this most excellent dentist ...he is by far the best i have ever known read more
