Canton still has a few hidden gems that are making improvement to attract more customers. This location will be shut down on July 3-4th for just that reason. If you have not tried their hibachi, you should. It's a fun experience that is sure to delight. The current location will be improved, it's the food and service that hits the spot. We enjoyed our time with the chef as he cooked up food for 10 guests. We delighted in his wonderful humor and playfulness as he cooked our lunches. Loved that he let my husband cook a bit too it just added to how light and fun eating hibachi can be. I wish I could give this Place zero stars... Smelled good, and I heard the food is OK. But there is a much better Japanese steakhouse right down the road. Apparently, this place does not even put on a show. My children were very excited to eat here, I purposely did not put them in a Halloween costume because the advertisement said only an adult would need to be in a costume for a free appetizer. It stated kids eat free on the advertisement. Upon getting in person, they had a different sign painted on the door and the assistant manager, Alex, would not honor the online advertisement. My wife was looking forward to filet mignon, and I was looking forward to some of their seafood. As well as the sushi. I was planning to spend a few hundred dollars here. And tip well over 30%... Within five minutes of being here, I see why they have under 2.8 stars on their yelp reviews. Their management and service is extremely disappointing. Hopefully in the future, they will learn how to treat the folks who want to give them money. Ridiculous. Also, I don't typically ever leave bad reviews. Okinawa Steak and Sushi is located in a strip mall near Outback and Longhorn. Those restaurants were crowded so we stopped in on a whim. The inside is nicely designed and there is a very large hibachi grill for two chefs if needed. We arrived at 6:30 pm on a Sunday night, and two parties were at the grill, so we ate at a table. Many tables were also seated, so I was honestly shocked that they have two and a half Yelp stars. We were delighted to see the 50% off sushi for Sunday night. "Real" California roll was very good. The service was very quick, and we thoroughly enjoyed the clear broth soup, salad, and our very large entrees: NY strip/scallop and NY strip/salmon. All food was delicious and high quality. We recently ate at a different Japanese restaurant, and their fried rice and food was not at all as good as this restaurant. All waiters and staff wore masks. My one negative observation is that the bathroom stalls need paint touch-ups. read more

I was very disappointed in my miso soup and my Lady Bug roll that I ordered tonight, when visiting this restaurant with my family. First off, the miso soup was overly salty and did not even have any seaweed in it. Secondly, the Ladybug roll was not near what it looked like on the menu or in photos of other reviews for this roll. The tobiko topping was very disappointing to say the least! There was hardly any tobiko on top at all. The first pix is of the menu reviews online. The second pix is what mine looked like tonight. I would say it was VERY DISAPPOINTING! The service was not very good either...as they were very rude to my family when disputing a menu item. Instead of just nicely saying that the menu item was inaccurate, they went out of their way to be rude and point out that their website was different than that found online, linking to their location. Sushi portions are laughable. The rolls aren't even the size of a nickel but they will charge you $15 for a roll with half a krabstick in it. All of the sauces and dressings are watered down to the point they have no taste. Soft drinks are $5. If you will go one more mile down the road Hana house is up on the hill next to sidelines and will give you great portions and fresh sushi worth the money. We have went to this restaurant off and on for ten plus years and after the new management it's seriously lacking and not worth the $$ UPDATED*. I am not impressed. I have come twice: once for dinner and once for lunch. When we came for dinner (attempt #1), we sat for 10 minutes at the sushi bar without any acknowledgement. No "be right with you" or "let me get you some water." We ended up leaving without any effort of service. It was busy so I will give them that. When I came for lunch (attempt #2), they were not busy at all. My waiter was attentive and I got my sushi quickly. The rolls were pretty good and 50% off (love that!) I ordered two rolled separately (I oftentimes underestimate my hunger ). When I got the second roll, the sushi preparer handed me the new roll. I tried to hand him the dirty dish from the first roll. He told me to put it on the bar in from of me. My dirty dishes were never cleaned up. During this entire lunch affair, about 5 employees sat in the dining room at the empty hibachi tables, laughing, cracking jokes, playing games on their phones will volume blaring... the food was good but the experience wasn't the vest I was seated by the hostess. This place does Habachi and sushi. For starters they suffer from not having enough staff. That being said sushi prices are absolute garbage. They charge about 11+ for each roll. Thursdays they do 50% off. The thing is...they actually have miniature rolls sold as actual sushi rolls. 50% off of overpriced half rolls roughly means half portions at full price on Thursdays...think of how much worse it would've been without that promotion. We were all still hungry after accruing a bill of $100 for four people. We're going to buy something else somewhere else just to feel less disappointed. The rolls were really flavorless with the exception of the pink.lady, dynamite and ak47. I frequent other sushi restaurants and for the price I was really expecting a minimum level of quantity and quality, the rolls were so generic and small I would've enjoyed a trip to the grocery store more at half the price. The icing on the cake, we were still hungry and wanted to order more before seeing the bill. They warned us if we did it would've been an hour wait...also it seemingly took forever to get our first order. The food was really good. The chef was great. The staff, however was rude and unprofessional. My group was seated in a straight line so we could not see each other, so we politely asked if we could be seated around a table so that we could talk with each other. The lady in charge of seating rudely informed us that we would either have to wait 30 extra minutes or go back to where we were seated. I understand the policy, but some professionalism would be nice. The food was delicious and the chef was amazing, but then the hostess began to talk badly about us right in front of us. I have been coming here and enjoying the rolls and hibachi for several months. Tonight was stupidity. I was with a group of people and I was paying. We sat at Hibachi and all ordered filet and lobster and in some cases added shrimp or scallops. Our waitress was MIA. Empty glasses were the norm. I got up to speak to the manager on duty. I told him I was thinking of ordering a few rolls to go. He said "only dine-in rolls are 50% off." So I asked him, sarcastically, what if I ordered for dine-in and ate a piece and asked for a "to-go" box. He said "no!" He said I would have to eat "most" of it. I told him that was a silly rule and he said "I'm just following the rules". Well... They missed out on my additional orders and they will miss me as a customer. Rounded up the whole family and went here to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. I had never done hibachi before but have always wanted to, I'm more of a sushi girl. The food was super fresh and well prepared. Our chef was very talented in his showmanship and also very friendly. The less than stellar reviews are a puzzlement to me. I have never been disappointed with either the service or the food. My favorite is the sushi appetizer which serves as a meal for me. The manager is atrocious and has the attitude of a wet cat. My husband and myself took our 3 children to have dinner here and to our surprise our meal was over 200 dollars. We have never spent this much at this restaurants in our lives. When looking at the bill we were charged full price for the fried rice and many other add one. I have to say, the new ownership in this place has changed my opinion on the Japanese Hibachi. I go to the Hibachi for the show, to entertain the hell out of my kids around a hot metal plate. This place did not disappoint me, but mostly for one reason. That reason being Super Star Hibachi Chef and Comedian, JAI!! Jai is about the most entertaining chef I have ever met at one of these places. He has the whole act down, and does it with a smile on his face. This guy should be the dude that trains all other Hibachi Chef's world wide. He is interactive with his audience, which is the best part. If you go here, just ask to sit at his table. The other chefs were nowhere near as interactive as this guy. Show was fantastic, and the food honestly wasn't that bad either. He paid close attention to the food the entire time making sure that nothing was overdone which is usually the biggest problems at one of these places. Steak was made to order for everyone that ordered, scallops and shrimp were not rubber. I had a couple of the rolls too, they were all right but I think the hibachi is the way to go here if you get Jai. Seriously, ask for this guy by name and interact with him. This place has a couple of very excellent specials during the week, 1 dollar sushi in the early evening on Tuesday and a hibachi special on Wednesday. I also am a fan of the sushi rolls here. Ahh, hibachi. There is nothing like a relaxing evening with a couple of friends sitting around a grill and having somebody perform while cooking for you. My wife and I visited this restaurant last night (Saturday). Parking spaces were ample, but the lot wasn't empty. We arrived a bit past 8pm and obviously missed the dinner rush of the yuppie elite in the Canton area. Showing up late had caused quite a stir for the hostess. She seemed rather surprised that people would actually come into a "Japanese Steakhouse" that late. After the confusion had worn off, the hostess finally decided to seat us at a table/grill all to our own. The waiter was prompt with menus and inquiries into drink preferences. He lacked a sense of formality... Anyways, the menu is the same as every other wannabe "Japanese" style steakhouse. I swear they clone these places and change the name! The prices were about the same, too! As for food, I had the filet and salmon combo; my wife had the filet and shrimp combo. The filet was cooked perfectly as was my salmon. I tried the shrimp and it was also cooked evenly, not rubbery or over-cooked. Overall, the experience was good, not great. I would go back to experience the specials. You may ask why I gave it a 3-star as opposed to say a 4 or 5. The dings are as follows: - Lack of showmanship from the chef. Even though we were the only 2 people at the table, he should have been more interesting or at least showed that enjoyed his work. He just cooked and didn't do much or say anything. - The spaghetti noodles. They had a bowl of spaghetti noodles that they do up in a sesame/garlic seasoning with soy sauce. I would say it's a weak attempt at a lo mein, but that is a different culture. They even charge an extra 1.98 for fried rice when it comes complimentary at other steakhouses. read more

This used to be our go-to sushi and hibachi place. Unfortunately, food quality, service and overall appearance and cleanliness has gone to hell. Servers always appear to be new, complete with that deer on the headlights look and no apparent training. Seems management is nonexistent and constantly changing. Our 5 sushi rolls took over an hour and this was not at peak service time. All staff seemed to just be standing around... Literally. Food quality is abysmal. Last Thursday, November 6th, my wife and I visited Okinawa. It was spectacular. I learned to love sushi in 1979 while living in Los Angeles. If you grow up on sushi in LA, you learn the difference between mediocre, good, and great sushi. Now under new management, Okinawa is great. Three years ago we moved up the mountains from downtown Atlanta. There are several great sushi bars in Atlanta, but Okinawa is now our favorite sushi bar. We are sashimi fans, and those of you who share that passion, know that with sashimi there is no way to disguise fish that is not fresh or fish that is inferior under piles of rice, sauces and creme cheese. Our sushi chef at Okinawa was named Sky, and he is truly a master. We started with tamago nigiri, which was slightly warm - a beautiful contrast to the cold rice and the hint of sweetness in the egg was the perfect contrast to the flavorful nori. Then we ordered salmon and yellowtail sashimi, both of which were perfect. At Sky's suggestion we also ordered toro. Actually I believe that it was otoro, which is the highest grade of toro. It was so fatty that it was almost falling apart and was sliced perfectly. It almost melted in your mouth. Our sashimi assortment was presented in a spectacularly dramatic, but elegant way. Yes, my wife took a photo of it to make our daughter (who lives in Atlanta) jealous. We also ordered vegetable tempura, which had a brilliant, hot and crunchy crust, wasn't oily in any way and the vegetables were the perfect texture. I ordered a salmon-skin hand roll. The marriage of textures was fantastic and the flavors could not be beaten. Then we asked Sky to create a roll of his choosing; we gave him no instructions other than we didn't want mayonnaise, creme cheese or anything fried. When it arrived, we made no effort to identify the varieties of fish within it, but it was spectacular, and beautiful. This Sky is really creative. We were absolutely full... however, we just couldn't resist ordering toro a second time to cap-off our experience. If you like energetic and fun servers, ask for Courtney... and tell her that Judson and Kate sent you. I promise you'll get super-warm, efficient and friendly service. Courtney pointed out the new owner, and when he walked by we congratulated him on his new establishment. He was gracious and friendly and noticed that we were low on Sapporo, which he quickly remedied. If you want sushi that is a touch above Okinawa, then go to Masa in New York City... you'll only pay $450 per person. [No exaggeration.] But if you want great sushi and great service in Georgia, go to Okinawa. read more

She told me that the hair did not come from the kitchen. Implying that it came from my head because it was blonde. She proceeded to tell me that no employee had blonde hair. I have been coming to Okinawa for 5 years now, and have never been disappointed. We usually get sushi, but the hibachi is great too. Like most hibachi places I've been to there's complimentary shrimp and noodles with dinners except for 9.95 hibachi night. There's also dollar sushi night on Tuesday where we got 3-4 piece rolls for $1. MY favorite roll is the Last Samurai roll with habanero cavier! read more

I went here for the hibachi, and I was disappointed in comparison to other hibachi restaurants I have been too. He overcooked the meat, which of course is a main part of a hibachi meal. The fried rice was OK, not the best I have had. Service was fine as you'd expect, the hibachi chef was fun, but I have definitely had better ones before.
