Really great poke at a reasonable price! The service is great too! There's a lot of protein choices including unagi, tuna, hamachi, salmon, etc. It is a small restaurant so there aren't too many places to sit but if you needed to eat there, you could. Oh, and you get miso soup with your poke! It's our go to spot for poke now. I haven't tried any of the rolls but they have that too. read more

Super friendly staff and extremely fresh ingredients! I love how there is a variety of options to choose from, and you're not limited, nor charged for addition toppings. You get the option of doing half rice and half salad which i find convenient. The regular bowl gives you 3 protein choices, and the large gives you 5! I also appreciate on how generous they are, as well as mixing everything together for you. This prevents a huge mess as well as the humiliation. You also get complimentary miso soup, which is a nice touch! I'd say it is pretty fair price for the amount of protein and selections you get, as well as the polite customer service! Highly recommended and would definitely come back! read more

Wow!! So many great things to say!! First impression walking in- the place is very welcoming, beautifully decorated, extremely clean!! We were nicely greeted when we entered. Now for the food!! We love sushi, so we looked up places near us online. When we walked in, I thought 'oh no this is a Poke bowl place, they do not have sushi!!' But they do!! And wow!! Fresh! Tasty! Well delivered! Just got back in town from my get away in Hawaii/LA and I got hooked with poke bowl while I was on my trip. I honestly never paid much attention to these kinda food and so I decided to look them up here in H-town. Well what do you know there are plenty of them here so I decided to hit up this joint since I was close by today. First impression, the place was clean, modern and we (me and my wife) were greeted immediately by the people inside. Since it's my first time ordering "Chipotle style" bar, the guy behind it explained how it's done carefully. My wife went for the regular bowl and I went for the large one (with 5 scoops of proteins). I enjoyed the portion and yes the avocado was not charged extra as mentioned in others posts, which I have no clue how other places do it. Miso soup was also included with my order. We enjoyed the food a lot, fresh and nothing too salty. The fountain drink was awesome too, especially the pineapple soda!!! The guy behind the counter also came asking if our food was okay and I appreciated that. For the price, I am not complaining. Regular size bowl goes at LEAST $15 in Honolulu/Kona big island and $17 in LA and I am pretty sure the portion is less. I will be on the search for other places that's for sure but this joint is def. somewhere that I will be back for more. Good job!!!!! read more

I'm gonna give this place 5 stars. I work across the street and usually when I forget my lunch or don't feel like eating my meal prep, I usually shoot for sushi-ish food. To think I'm still eating healthy. Ya feel? I've eaten twice now and have not been disappointed. Always greeted, fantastic service, and great tasting food. I'm pretty greedy but since I also workout a lot, I opt for the 5 scoop of protein. And to be quite honest, $13.95 for 5 scoops of protein is not too bad! Since I'm trying to eat healthy, I usually go for the romaine lettuce/spring mix base. But they also offer brown rice, sushi rice and half and half. My go to protein is always salmon so I have yet to try their other choices. I'm a creature of habit but one day I'll try the other choices of protein. They even have unagi! Lots of great choices to choose from. Fish is fresh. It doesn't have that fishy taste or smell. Trust me. You'll know when something is fishy. I saw that they had avocado and had to ask if it was extra. And ladies and gentlemen, a scoop of avocado is NOT EXTRA!!! Amen. Did I mention a cup of miso soup is free? And you can add tomago!? Daaaamnn impressing me even more. Now the next step is making a sushi-rito. But for now, I'm happy. read more

As far as poke goes, especially if you're not in the heart of Houston, this is by far the best one you can find. First of all, they have so many different protein options. Many places let you choose from the basic tuna or salmon, but Okome Don offers many more options, such as shrimp, red snapper, scallops, octopus, etc. Their bowl sizes are actually the same, whether you get a regular or a large but what differs is the number of protein scoops you get. A regular provides you with 3 scoops while a large gets you 5 scoops. I like to get the regular and load it up with toppings. Speaking of toppings, while other places may limit the amount of toppings you get or charge you extra for toppings, this place definitely doesn't. It's amazing! I love their variety and portion, and overall, the price is pretty decent (~$10/bowl). Did I mention that it also comes with a free bowl of soup? I mean seriously, can you get a better deal? It's a fulfilling meal, the service is great, there's rarely a wait, and it's just convenient if you want another option in Chinatown. Also, it's much easier to find now that they changed their sign, so kudos to you owners! read more

Wow, I've always been leary about eating poke or sushi in Chinatown, so I guess this confirms my suspicions. I was the only customer during my visit and ordered the large bowl and didn't think the fish wasn't very fresh. I tried the salmon, red snapper, yellowtail, scallop, and surf clam. Pros: Probably the largest selection of protein in Houston Avocado is free (1st scoop) Has tamago and oshinko as a side Oak Cliff Beverage Works craft sodas at soda fountain (mango is addicting) Surf clam Free miso soup Cons: Fish wasn't that fresh (the day I visited) Scoops are pretty small There are so many poke places popping up, I doubt I will be back to this one anytime soon. read more

Great place for a fresh and scrumptious poke bowl. Choose a base, either 3 or 5 protein options, and then you get unlimited veggie toppings, sides and sauces. Keep in mind that the scoops of all items mentioned are rather small, but they do add up to make a filling meal. This was a perfect entry into the world of poke bowls. All ingredients were fresh and the sauces weren't overly salty or spicy. My bowl...a bit of an eye catcher included: - mix of brown and mixed greens - salmon, tuna, unagi - all veggies - red onion, avocado (no upcharge - score!), corn, edamame, cucumbers, green onion - sides - kimchi, seaweed salad, pickled radish - finishings - toasted onion, dry seaweed, sesame, furikake - spicy soy (not very spicy, just the right kick) and a light drizzle of spicy mayo + we received a hot miso soup too! Portions, Portions, Portions. What I love about Okome Don is the amount of portions that they give you for your protein, rice, toppings, etc. They give you wayyy more compared to other poke places. The staff is incredibly friendly and they even gave us some miso soup! It was all very delicious. The only reason why I would not provide this place with one extra star is because the sauce I had wasn't as savory as I wanted to be. I recommend this place if you're looking for a more affordable option for poke with a decent portion. Believe me you won't be hungry after you leave here. read more

Update: i tried their raw options this visit and had the salmon, red snapper, and shrimp (semi cooked). I topped it with edamame, green onions, and avocado. Along with House soy sauce and toppings of nori and sesame seeds. Their raw fish is really fresh quality with no fishy smell and I never had any problems afterwards haha. Really good ($10) deal for free miso soup and all that protein. Def my go-to place for poke around home. read more

Good poke bowls with fresh ingredients. Nice, friendly, and patient staff. Clean kitchen and dining area. The staff patiently walked us through the menu and ingredients to show us how things work. They have the regular size (choice of 3 proteins) and large size (choice of 5 proteins). You order at the counter Subway-style and choose your ingredients. There are plenty of cooked and raw protein options and sides. The portion size was decent. I shared one regular bowl with my significant other, and we felt adequately full afterwards. We made our bowl with sushi rice, octopus, salmon, unagi, seaweed, and avocado. It tastes just like sushi when eaten together. No complaint from us and we would come back here again if we're craving a poke bowl. read more

I've tried so many Poké places around Houston and this has got to be one of the best. I love the portion sizes (being able to choose 3 proteins that are good quality) for the valuable cost. Their rewards program is also very nice because you get a free bowl when you purchase 10. This place has everything I look for when I get my poké bowls. I also love how they always give you a free cup of miso. Most importantly though, their avocado is not extra! read more

It was my first time trying out this Poke spot. I found this place through Yelp. Based on the menu online, this place had way more selection choices than any other Poke spots in the area. I ordered the 3 scoop which is a regular. The server provided great portion sizes. When it came to the sauces, both the server and cashier were great with helping me on deciding a sauce choice. Overall, my Poke bowl was very filling. Proteins tasted fresh and sides were great. I gave this place a 4 star because I wasn't a fan of how cold the brown rice was. I would have liked my bowl more if the rice was at least room temperature. read more

After going to a few poke bowl places around Midtown and Sharpstown this place hands-down has been the best. Immediately upon entering the staff greeted us and showed us the process of ordering poke. Would highly recommend this place to first timers, due to the plentiful options they have when ordering and friendly staff to ask for guidance on what's the best combination. The taste of the fish was fresher than expected, and the ingredients were colorful enough to tell apart once your poke bowl is finished. The staff was also kind enough to bring miso soup to our table which was a nice after meal taste. Definitely coming back to this place! read more

My boyfriend took me here because I love poke. I was very happy with my bowl. I had the yellowtail, salmon, shrimp,and crab with assorted veggies and stuff. The fish was fresh and I liked how the chunks were the perfect size. Not too big, not too small, and not mashed. They recommended the sauces based on what I ordered and it all came out perfect! The place was clean & the woman's bathroom was clean. The only thing I would improve is the seating. I did not like the cold, hard chairs. read more

It's not as exotic as some of the other poke places you'll find around Houston, but it's affordable, they don't skimp, it's delicious, and they even give you fresh avocado without charging...whaaa? Staff is nice, parking is easy, so while maybe not a date spot as far as the ambiance of the store goes, it's legit. I think of it as my poke chipotle. Dig it. read more

My first time trying poke and I was impressed. Parking was easy to get even going around 1PM on a weekday. Went in and loved the cleanliness of the restuarant. Menu was simple enough but what really got me was the helpfulness of the staff knowing it my first time there. Unagi was so good and the poke was filling, especially with the soup served after. I gave then 5 stars as it was a great combination of great service, great food, and great atmosphere. If you're in Chinatown and craving something different, try the poke at Okome Don. read more

This is my number one spot to get poke at. It's the only place I know that doesn't charge extra for seaweed salad or avocado! They also give out the biggest portion I know and each order comes with miso soup. The fish is always fresh and for the regular size you get 3 scoops of protein. Adding to Houston's huge variety of poké, Okome Don is the first spot to open up right in the heart of Chinatown. Okome Don is a build-your-own-bowl and is done right before you, assembly-line style - so for those that don't want to drive too far to completely customize your bowl, this is the spot. My take-aways: - AVOCADO AIN'T EXTRA - So so so many protein and mix-in options - Their current promotion is +1 more protein scoop than what they have on their current menu. Their large bowl is currently sitting at 5 PROTEIN SCOOPS. Did I mention that they have unagi as a protein option? - Tamago topping (who knew it'd be so good on poké?!) Note: I stopped by on a Sunday night pretty much at closing time and was just looking in since it was new but they waved me in and served me. Kudos to you, Okome. Pro: complimentary miso soup Con: crabmeat and masago...MASAGO are considered protein (regular bowl is 3 proteins and large is 5 proteins) Pro: no extra charge on avocado and unlimited toppings Con: they are somewhat stingy on portions. Little scoops of everything - rice, protein, toppings Pro: customer service was great Between 3-4 stars but I went ahead and gave it the 4. It could most definitely change to a 5 star restaurant if they were more generous with their scoops. (The masago being a protein thing is weird but it's not a game changer. My bf and I each got a Hawaiian Favorite combo and couldn't finish them. The entrees are easily two servings for me, so it's a great value! The containers the food comes in are microwavable too, so extra bonus points for easy reheating! If you do manage to finish an entree in one sitting though, you will be stuffed! It wasn't mentioned on the menu, but there's steamed/sautéed cabbage under the meat. It looked a little deceiving because I thought it was just a huge pile of meat, only to find cabbage under. Thankfully, I love cabbage and appreciated that there were veggies to balance the heaviness of all the meat. That being said, there was still a lot of meat, just not as much as it looked like at first. They also give you little containers of sauce depending on which entree you get, which really enhanced the meal. If you get bbq beef or chicken, you get a delicious, sweet, Hawaiian bbq sauce. If you get the chicken katsu, you get a sauce that resembles sweet and sour. If you get a combo that has both bbq meat and chicken katsu, you get both sauces. I poured the sauce over the rice to season the plain white rice, then poured the rest on the meat even though it didn't really need it. BBQ CHICKEN: Moist, flavorful, and delicious!! Comes in small to large chunks. BBQ BEEF: Moist, flavorful, and delicious!! Comes in thin slices. CHICKEN KATSU: Moist! Fresh, crunchy breading! Tastes better with the sweet and sour-like sauce provided than on its own. KALBI SHORT RIBS: Delicious! Moist! Has fatty bits, unlike the bbq beef, which I really liked! I can tell that the owners are putting a lot of attention and care in their establishment. I appreciated her honest advice and got the dragonfruit strawberry refresher instead. It was definitely refreshing with the perfect amount of ice to keep it cold but not water it down. I also tried one of the mini croissants which is probably what will keep me coming back. Flaky and full of high quality cheese and spices, I wish I had gotten two! I'll definitely come back at an earlier time since a lot of the pastries were sold out.

I tried Okome Don for the first time this past weekend, and I must say, I think it is my new favorite poke spot in Houston! There are many things I loved about this place: - The man working behind the counter was super nice and friendly. - I am not a huge fan of raw fish, but Okome Don offers crab meat as a protein option, which I was really happy about. - The selection of veggies, toppings, and sauces are great. - The poke came with a free cup of miso soup! - The price was super reasonable, at $10.95 for a regular bowl. Food came out pretty quickly too and I was able to go back and forth for miso soup at least two or three times. If I had to rank my favorite of the four items I ordered: 1. Smoked Salmon 2. Scallop Handrolls 3. Salmon 4. Oyakudon All were wonderful but the smoked salmon and scallop handrolls are the two pieces that I've been trying to search around Houston for what I think is the best.
