They are efficient on follow through with any requests we have had as well as extremely friendly. When we come here it feels like family. I originally found Okun Dentistry on Yelp before confirming they were in-network with my provider. I am so ecstatic after my first two appointments 5 stars isn't even enough to describe them. I was apprehensive about finding good doctors and dentists here in Arizona when I was so used to living near a huge medical district elsewhere but I am so thankful for all these reviews I felt obligated to leave one myself. #1 I have been told I "desperately" needed a root canal about 4 years ago in another state but life happened and I never got to it. Dr. Amy told me she was able to save the tooth with some quick dental work and no root canal needed, saved me money and psychological stress from getting a root canal. Granted she explained how I might still need one in the distant future on that tooth since it's been worked on so much in the past but that was totally understandable. She didn't try to up sell me on anything unnecessary and in fact was very grateful at how she was very focused on helping the patient as opposed to pocketing quick money. Very educated, very good at problem solving. When the reviews said these people are honest and not out there to scam they were not kidding! The receptionists were wise in advising me on how to pay, although I have a good FSA card they advised I double check if whitening was covered and explained some of the billing process. This saved me from an awkward whitening experience in which I probably wold have found myself unable to use my card. #2 When the reviews said they were friendly they weren't joking either. I feel like I'm meeting up with old friends as weird as that is to say when going there, both visits so far. The woman who cleaned my teeth (on the FIRST visit) was so gentle and explained the process and what she was doing and how I could maintain my teeth in the future. I've never felt so in tune with what's going on in my mouth and it actually encouraged me to focus on my brushing routine and brush in a way I never thought of before. You don't get this anywhere else. The mind filling conversation was not only informative but it helped take your mind off of the actual dental work. #3 The office is freaking fantastic looking. Maybe it's a psychological thing but not only is it trendy upscale looking its actually quite intuitive how the x-rays and dental work is mostly done int he same room No awkward shuffling or anything, and the colors look relaxing and maybe it was the sun that day but the place felt more cozy than overly formal despite the nice modern contemporary look. There's overall great energy from the moment people walk in and see the receptionists to the assistants to the dentists. Great vibes. Hopefully I won't have to go back to the dentist for any more serious issues but I am still going to go get my teeth whitened but avoiding embarrassment was a good thing that meant a lot. read more

The office is beyond clean, equipment is latest technology and well maintained, plus it is a comfortable and caring atmosphere. They take care of all of our dental needs on a regular basis and can do it all. Whether you require a regular cleaning, a filling or more extensive dental care, this is a great dental practice and they will take incredible care of you and your mouth. If a temporary is so plastic, how could it shift so many of my teeth so that floss could not get between my teeth at all. My teeth have always been tight, but not to the point of no flossing on several teeth in such a short time--over night. Do I have the correct office? My husband was going to your office as well. We began going to your office because you were so nice to us when answering questions about concerns I had about my previous dentist. That and your location is convenient. If no one remembers my concerns in calling and coming in for a temp. crown adjustment, then either the asst. and the person at the front desk who took my frantic call are gone, or they have the "I don't recall" problem. Your assistant, who is very nice I might add, tried the floss, it was a no-go, so she made the adjustment. I fear she erred on the side of adjusting a little too much because I have a bit more room between my teeth now. (As far as I know, you were never consulted about this adjustment.) I always wondered how the permanent crown came away with the same adjustment as the temp. It does make it easier to floss now, but like you said it gives my teeth more room to shift. Which is why I went into your office for a bite adjustment on the permanent crown. Hence the extra charge? Seriously?! The above experience is why I don't go to a dentist unless something serious happens--broken tooth, or bad toothache. By the way, I went back to my previous dentist. At least he doesn't think I'm an idiot with the concerns I have about my teeth. He listens, we discuss and he makes adjustments as needed. You need to listen to people who have to use their teeth everyday. It's scary enough having someone who has gone to dental college doing stuff to your teeth, but having someone who has not gone to dental college doing some of the same stuff is just wrong. What you tell them to do is not a "no-brainer". I try to just deal with it and tell myself everything will be fine. Then it's not fine. A dentist is an artist. You can't teach an assistant who was taught to hand you stuff to do what you were taught, at least not as well. (No matter how nice they are, I don't feel they should be learning how to at my expense.) I hope you learn a valuable lesson from this and patients go into your office with their eyes wide open. Why do dentists need assistants, but assistants don't need assistants to do some of the same work? Just wondering. read more

As a child, I "kid" you not, I used to scream and thrash around in the dentist's chair every time I went in. I HATED IT. (I'm so sorry, Siouxland Dental Associates in Iowa.. you all deserve express passes to heaven for dealing with 5 year old me) Since those dark dental days, and for the last two years, I've been going to Dr. Amy down here and the experience and care I receive each visit has made me a person who now loves going to the dentist. My hygienist Patsy today was one of the most informative and lovely people in dealing with my irrational fears, and put my mind completely at ease while teaching me just about everything there is to know about my gums and bacteria. I was actually sad when it was over. I've also had another wonderful lady the past few times before who I believe is named Denise - she is equally as delightful in dealing with someone terrified of sharp objects near their face. I just started as a patient here and am very happy. The staff is very nice and they have been fantastic to work with. I have had to go three times in the last two weeks and have a few more appointments coming up. I can honestly say I am not dreading the sessions as much as normal. They also have been great to work with for payment, since I am paying out of pocket. The other amazing thing is that they are open a few Saturdays a month. since I work an ungodly amount of hours this has been clutch. They even have tvs to watch movies or listen to music while they do their work. 6 stars all the way! read more

I love this place! I have had so many horror stories and this place put me at ease. They are very detailed and want what's best for you. They make you feel at home and as comfortable as you can be while at the dentist. They are so pleasant and personable. My retainer broke and they got me in the same day to fix it. Okay so I haven't been to the dentist in years (and I mean YEARS), so naturally, I'm a bit nervous to have someone look at these chompers. I knew I had to get some stuff done, but like any other citizen, I was avoiding it. So my boyfriend tells me about this place called Okun Dentistry right down the street from my house and naturally, I'm skeptical but I trust his judgment (duh). I have been there three times, and LET ME TELL YOU... the service is AMAZING! I had to get a filling replaced and the sweet assistant provided me with headphones so I can jam out during the whole thing, held my hand while I was getting my injections, and when I told her I was actually freezing cause of the AC, gave me a blanket folks... A BLANKET! My dentist was a tall, handsome guy with a foreign name and some serious skills. When I called to get a check on my benefits, the receptionist was extremely understanding and went above and beyond to provide me with my insurance updates in a timely manner. So far, I had a filling replaced with them, two cleanings (I'm getting better America), and even had my wisdom teeth removed with them - all AMAZING experiences. Shout out to my girl that cleans my teeth! I can't remember your name but she got married in April and is an actual angle for how well she cleans my bottom teeth. (Okay, I was slightly terrified because right before they took my wisdom teeth out because the surgeon told me I may have permanent damage in my jaw because of the extraction. Not exactly someone wants to hear right before putting my teeth in his well-educated hands, but he was being honest and real, and I respect that). If you live in Tempe and need a dependable and trustworthy dentist, come to Okun Dentistry. I don't know where they find their staff but I was SO incredibly impressed with how warm and inviting everyone was. I cannot recommend this dental clinic highly enough. Every single person at Okun is awesome at their jobs. The team at the front desk- Gina, Lori and Tina, are there to help make your visit as pleasant as possible from the moment you ring to make an appointment to when you walk out the door. They are always on time and punctual with appointments (I've never had to wait longer than 5-10mins), and will work hard to get you an appointment at a time that works for you. My first visit was an emergency one when I woke up on a Saturday morning with a toothache. I rang Okun and they were able to fit me in for a consultation that morning! I've had a lot of dental phobia which made me avoid the dentist (and eventually led to my dental problems!), and Dr Schatzman and Tina were so lovely and made me feel comfortable even though they knew I was in a lot of distress. Two root canals, several cavities and cleanings later, and I can safely say that Okun Dentistry played a huge role in helping me get over my dental phobia and not feel nervous at all about visiting the dentist. Isela is a wonderful dental hygienist who patiently explained how to best care for my teeth, and did such an awesome job cleaning so now they look beautiful! Dr Okun's office was honestly one of the best dental experiences I've ever had, and suffice to say, in the past 4 years I've been afraid to go to the dentist just because it was such a horrible experience. Not here. Dr. Amy and her assistant Kristen were, from the moment I walked in, as compassionate and caring toward my dental health as I could have ever imagined. They even stayed late to help me get through all the work that my teeth required. The absolute best part was that they make you feel as comfortable as possible while you're getting work done. They have a TV readily available to watch TV shows or movies to put you at ease, and both Dr Amy and Kristen were very conversational and I felt like they really did care about me and what was going on in my life. After an appointment like that, I know that going to the dentist will be a great experience, and Ive already set my next appointment for my six month cleaning. read more

Dr. Okun not only handled it extraordinarily, she called me back later in the day to make sure everything was alright. I wasn't certain where personalized dental care, competent professionalism and service disappeared to, especially in today's "all-about-me" culture, but now I'm certain. It went to this practice. While visiting family in the Tempe area, my wife's temporary crown dislodged causing severe pain from shoulder to jaw, and making it impossible for her to sleep at night, even with ibuprofen. I chanced upon Amy Okun's office while looking for a dentist open on a Saturday morning. Although the office was closed that Saturday (ie, the off Saturday on an every other Saturday open schedule), the recorded message indicated an emergency phone number, which to my surprise, connected me directly with Amy. She then spent 15 to 20 minutes on the phone helping me to understand possible causes for my wife's intense pain, and was even willing to look at a texted image of the temporary crown to determine if we had reinserted it correctly. She made at least two phone calls to dentists in the area that she knew were open on Saturday, and called back within 15 min to indicate that she had set up an appointment for my wife with another dentist. I know that Amy was sacrificing her personal time to help, as I could hear her son in the background. I do understand that professionals need their personal time, and I felt very badly having invaded hers, but that said, I can also attest to her caring nature, attention to detail, and willingness to do whatever it takes to help in an emergency. If I were living in the area, I would be switching to Okun Dentistry immediately. read more

I haven't been a pt of theirs since 2014 but now that I have new insurance I'm in the market for a new dentist and ran across Okun Dentistry and these glowing reviews. I thought Dr. Amy Okun was very knowledgeable and I had no complaints with them until it came to charges. I needed a root canal, so I told them to give me an estimate of the costs, as I was in school for Ultrasound and on a budget. Don't get me wrong, I know they are unable to give exact costs but $200 and $700 is a huge difference. I made the appointment for the root canal and after a tough couple of hours, upon checking out was told I needed to make an appointment for a filing. I was upset and asked why they didn't tell me this when I scheduled the root canal, this would be additional and I'd have to wait until I had the money. I came back for the filing and Dr. Okun says, "now we need to make an appointment for your crown". I expressed just how very upset I was as these three steps could have been explained to me in the beginning and I could have put the $ away. (I do have dental insurance as well by the way:) Her response was "there's not much we can say". My response was, "oh there's plenty one could say". It was the last time I was there. It just gave me that creepy, businessy, feel that I don't want others to experience when you put all of your trust in someone who is supposed to help you, not try to slip in more costs here and there without you knowing until you get a bill. Nice facility, and I really miss the hygienist there but proceed with caution. Unless of course you always have $500-$1000 extra dollars lying around to give this practice ;-) read more
