Fun fact this is not the Wailuku on Maui, this brewery is named after the Wailuku River. Had a wonderful time chatting with the owner on a Sunday afternoon. Their standards are good and they also have a barrel program which has some room for improvement, but is coming along. Where else can you find a barleywine in Hawaii. They also make their own ginger beer and their Dark and Stormy was delicious. My favorite beers were the barleywine and the tripel. I tasted 8 total. The tasting room is well appointed. I appreciate a comfy bar stool. The bathroom was nice and clean. They also have food trucks or food daily. This day they had Uncle Bob's smoked ribs, with truffle mac and cheese, and a cornbread muffin. Probably the best ribs I have ever had. They were seasoned so well I didn't even need sauce. Next time you are in the area, do yourself a favor and stop in. They also have a crowler machine for to go. read more

Decided to give this place a go on Super Bowl Sunday despite that we don't watch football and hate crowds It was AWESOME! The table spacing and soundproofing on the walls allowed for a pleasant environment and the beer was great. We tried almost all of them via 2 flights and were very pleased. The poke and pretzels were stupid good and there's a wing guy out back that brings your order in when it's ready. Very clean and functional given the limited size but they had a lounge open upstairs for overflow. The staff was so lovely and very warm, making a little time for each table so it felt more like a social occasion rather than a transactional one. Definitely looking forward to going back! read more

Was invited to a party upstairs. We walked in and the bartender was very friendly and excited to show us the actual brewery. We then went upstairs which you can actually rent for private parties. It was cozy and sexy. Only downside we bought a brew on tap a a Moscow mule price was $23 which in my opinion was a bit pricey. So didn't order anything else after that. Wailuku Brew Works is a great little brewery just outside Hilo. The taproom is small but welcoming, with a relaxed local vibe. They offer a wide range of beers, from crisp lagers and hoppy IPAs to rich stouts and creative sours. Everything we tried was solid and clearly made with care. There was only one staff member working, and she was very friendly and made us feel right at home. While there is no food, they do have pretzels, which was really the only good snack option. Still, the beer and the atmosphere made the visit more than worth it. If you are in the area, this place is definitely worth checking out. read more

Awesome microbrewery not too far from Hilo. Parking looks like it can be right at times but when I visited there were some spaces available. The beer is as creative as it is delicious. The owners are great company and it was awesome hearing about how they started up the brewery. read more

Stopped down here after hiking in Volcano National Park. The staff are very friendly and attentive. If you're not sure what you want to do- just ask for their suggestions. They do over limited food. We got the truffle Mac and cheese that was from a crockpot. Flavor was good, but I tend to like my pasta al dente. They also had a really nice stack mix they offered for free. The beer list had something for everyone. Very good beer. I could see myself spending hours here if I was a local. They do have some tvs for sports and Bob Ross (personal favorite). The inside is smaller, but not crowded. There is a Little Caesar's Pizza that many people got take out from and brought it. Bathrooms were very nice and clean. Only thing that could make it better is some outdoor seating. Worth a stop! read more

I bookmarked this brewery as a place to stop in on my way home from Hilo someday, so glad I did! This is probably the best pint of my life. Most welcoming bartender, authentic, personable patrons, fabulous beer, and the world's greatest complimentary snack mix. Cheetos, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Goldfish, Cheezits, peanuts, rice crackers, sesame sticks, and about 10 other items to make a magical bowl of every flavor known to man. Clean bathrooms, ice cold water as she pours your beer, and gorgeous photography on the walls. I'm thinking I have to go back several times, it's either absolute bliss, or it's going to take me awhile to find some faults (doubt it, total joke/excuse). Highly recommend! The good: hands down the beer. We did a sampler tray and had four other pints and everything was pretty amazing. Nice bar area nice and cozy inside and the bartender was super nice. Very inviting and gave good descriptions of the beer and a taster if we asked for one. The not so Good: so we came on the night where the empanadas were on the menu. The pictures of them on their menu looked amazing along with the pico de gallo type of sauce that supposedly came with it. What we ended up getting for $10 was two small empanadas that honestly looked like they came from a frozen section of the grocery store and the sauce although, it was tasty, was a small container of green sauce. Not at all what we saw in the picture. But to be fair the rating is because of the beer, that's why we came. read more

Wailuku Brew Works is Hawaii's newest brewery, both for the Big Island and the state. The owners have been brewing for almost twenty years and put everything into their labor of love. Located outside of Hilo in Keaau on the highway toward areas of homes, they cater to commuters looking to grab some to go cans or wait out the heavy traffic with a pint. The brewery is in an unassuming commercial building, with the interior bright and welcoming for you to sit and stay a while. The main bar area has multiple taps, which will eventually all have different beers brewed on site. They have small tables for pairs or groups, with restrooms to the left past the merchandise area. As of this writing and opening, they have half a dozen beers to try of various styles, all deliciously well made. Flights, pints, and to go cans are available. Menus above the bar describe the beers or ask a bartender for recommendations. Behind the bar is the brewery area, which is also larger than it looked from the outside. It also gives them room for expansion, both in seating area and brewery production space. Food is available for purchase at the lunch counter next store, new location of Little Caesars Pizza across the street, or other nearby restaurants. If you're a brewery tourist or fan of beer, this is definitely worth your time to find and enjoy. read more

Tucked away in an industrial area between Keaau and Hilo, you'll find Wailuku Brew Works. Non-deacripy from the outside, don't judge a business by its cover! The inside is super cute, clean, and friendly. Enjoyed meeting one of the owners and chatting with her and the male employee she appeared to be training. The service was great. Beers and mead were tasty (I don't drink, but my friend sampled). The only fault is that the tasters are very expensive compared to other tastings I've done throughout the US and Mexico. 44$ including tip for 6 beer tasters plus 1 mead tasting is rather expensive, even for Hawaii.i would still recommend going and supporting this new, local business. read more

Next to Maona Lunch Counter in Shipman. I popped in to check them out and immediately felt welcome as if I was a regular. I ordered a flight of 4 beers, enjoyed every one of them. If you are hungry, there is a taco truck outside. Otherwise you can munch on chex mix while you gaze at 3 massive TVs directly in front of you. I really hope they are able to expand and add more seating and start serving even a limited menu of food items. I'll be making this a regular stop on my way home. read more

Fantastic craft brewery! The staff are great - so welcoming. Shout out to the wonderful bartenders - Lydia and CeCe! The beer is amazing. Our favorites were the Wookie IPA, watermelon sour and the Nutty Professor. The outside doesn't look like much, but the inside is decorated well, with 3 large screen TV's. We caught college football at the bar. We also brought in food from a local poke restaurant, but they also give everyone "bar snacks". Worth the stop! read more

Great atmosphere great beer, the owners are super nice and came over to talk story with us while we enjoyed our flights. The brewery has 31 seats so it can fill up fast so be mindful of what time of day you stop by. There's no other brewery that I know of in Hilo that has Sour beers so I was very excited to try and they did not disappoint. The menu says the flavors are season so I'm excited to see what's coming in the future. I can definitely see this place doing well and expanding to a second/bigger location. Id love to see them offering food for purchase in the future but if you're hungry, there's a lunch shop next store that you can order at to bring over and enjoy in the AC with a cold one. read more

The staff are friendly and knowledgeable in a classy but laid back setting. Convenient location halfway between HPP and Hilo makes it accessible to everyone.
