Nyack, NY - the dining scene in Nyack keeps getting better and better. I've been anticipating the opening of Olar Meu for a while, as it is the new restaurant by the owners of the highly regarded Olar Noso in Northvale NJ, and am pleased to report the food is as sensational as expected! The well-curated and balanced menu is focused on Spanish/Mediterranean dishes and tapas, all expertly prepared with quality ingredients. I genuinely loved everything. We ordered fried calamari misto (fantastic!), bacalao croquettes, polenta crostini, and Olar salad (simple but delicious) to start. For our mains, the paella Valenciana and mariscada salsa verde were profuse with fresh seafood - and the mussels and clams were delightfully fat and plump. The grilled skirt steak, which we requested medium rare, was perfectly cooked. Complimentary garlic herb crostini is brought to the table, and we were given fresh crusty-chewy rosemary focaccia bread brushed with olive oil as well. We were too stuffed to go for dessert but I think the offerings were a molten lava cake, vanilla panacotta, a cheesecake of some sort, and caramel flan. The owner was there and came around to greet everyone. They are currently doing a soft opening so there's no liquor license yet, and it's cash only right now, but everything seems so well run already. We've walked by this place a number of times. Curious about the inviting open walled dining that calls passer-Byers in from the street. Finally decided to give it a try. The owner, very serious, and manning the bar, but his sister tending to all of us . We hit the perfect seat we wanted by the open walled facing the sidewalk so we could enjoy fresh air and people watch at the same time. The couple next to us reconnected the pan seared shrimp in a garlic and lemon brine, with saffron rice, and crostini. Order a bottle of wine or sangria, and you've made it a night. My wife and I visited the new Olar Meu in Nyack for Valentine's Day, and had a really great meal. Bottom line: it's really great. Had a terrific meal at a surprisingly reasonable price given the amount of food we got. We're lucky to have Olar in Nyack, adding another top-line restaurant right next to the iconic Hudson House. I'm a terrible food blogger and a worse food photographer, but here goes: The biggest deal to me was getting authentic Paella in Nyack -- or really, anywhere in Rockland. I spent a summer in Spain as a high school kid, and have never forgotten how great true Paella is when it captures the tastes of both brine and saffron. Too many times I've been disappointed by "paella" that's really just "spanish rice" -- no brine, no saffron, just rice with some spices in it. But Olar's Paella is the real deal, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. It was wonderful and really took me back. The other dishes were also very good, including some tapas: The grilled octopus was really tender and tasty. You always risk a rubbery texture with octopus, but this was perfect. A highlight! The mushrooms with burrata was delicious. Anytime you heat burrata you lose some of the texture, and it becomes more like melted mozzarella. But who doesn't love melted mozzarella, particularly paired with a garlicky assortment of mushrooms. Really good. The Cod croquettes were crispy and light and yummy, and the sauce had just enough bit. But like lots of tapas you're better off ordering them if you have more of a group -- four croquettes for two people was a little more food than we needed. Finally, we had the panna cotta for dessert, which was really good. If panna cotta is on the menu, I get it, so this was a particular treat that they offered it. Also, service was great, very friendly, and the space, which is not nearly finished, showed promises of what it's going to become. They don't have a liquor license, which meant a dry dinner (and you can't byob), but that was fine. Some people might want to wait until they can pair some wine and sangria with their meals, though. Again, the bottom line is that it was great, and a really powerful addition to the dining scene. We had enough food that we took home lunch for the next day (Paella is a surprisingly good takeout food!). Really happy they're here. read more

Avoid This Place - Horrible Service and ManagementI had an incredibly disappointing experience at this establishment. Decided to try the new Nyack location, sit down because Ive Stage 4 Caner, and need a cool place simply to sit with my varies . We get there,find a beautiful seat by the window and order a drink. But the okace had no AC on a hot day, making the entire dining room completely unbearable and suffocatingly hot.When we brought this up to the owner, they were completely rude and dismissive. It was shocking how little they cared about the comfort of their paying guests. When we mentioned that we would be leaving a negative review to warn others, the owner flat out said they didn't care about reviews at all. Buyer be aware. read more

Wow! Fantastic discovery in Nyack. A reincarnation of Olar which was sorely missed after it closed in Piermont during Covid. If you're in the mood for terrific tapas , paella, or on a pescatarian diet of fine quality, this is the place for you. Frito Misto and grilled octopus, seafood paella and lobster saffron risotto were excellent. We'll be back to sample many more of the dishes on the menu. read more

I'm an O Lar regular since Piermont. I could not be more excited that Miguel is back with a new (LARGER!) spot. Even better, it's in the heart of Nyack. The food is excellent. You really can't go wrong with anything, but start with some Spanish fries for the table. Split a salad. Then order some seafood, or an excellent paella. As others have noted, no liquor license yet, and you can't BYOB (blame NYS not Miguel). Hopefully by summer we will be enjoying Sangria and perhaps some gin and tonics. Everything was so tasty Our server couldn't be nicer and very professional. In the past I have had paella and since I am allergic to iodine it is one place I trust that there will be no shrimp in my dish. read more

Our absolute favorite place to go in Nyack. My husband Tom and I are fans of all of the Olar restaurants, but the owner Miguel in Nyack makes it an experience to remember every time. His stories and drink making skills are something to watch. The staff are wonderful and they make everyone feel welcome. The food is above par! Delicious and well prepared. Olar is in the "soft launch" phase (no liquor license yet), but the food is already at the top of the game. Tapas like mussels and olives were straight from the continent, seasoned well, and each came with a crostini that was perfect. There was a special salad that had escarole, endive and grapefruit. Absolutely delicious with a dressing that matched the salad well. The paella valenciana came out full of portions of seafood, sausage and chicken. This dish could easily feed two if you so desired. Went in for a date night on a whim and we are so happy we did! Sangria set the food followed by the most authentic tapas I've had since being in Barcelona. Just when we didn't think it could get better, the skirt steak and salmon set a new bar. This was only surpassed by the ricotta cheesecake. 10/10 will be back!! read more

Outstanding...from the selection of liquor to the appetizers and to the pasta dishes...as a Calabrese, I know good pasta and many Italian restaurants don't offer Bucatini All'Amatriciana and the one's that do barely know how to make it correctly...at Ola Meu, that dish was a traditional as you can get...especially using guanciale instead of bacon...this place is the real deal... read more

Having been a big fan of Olar in Piermont and now Olar Noso in Northvale, I looked forward to trying the newest location in Nyack. Sadly, every aspect of our dining experience was a disappointment. After we sat down, we noticed that the plates on our table had dust on them. The server replaced them. Unlike the other locations, there was a very limited selection of wines by the glass, however the table next to us was offered Cava by the glass which was not on the menu or offered to us. As our food was served, we noticed the portion sizes were significantly smaller than what we are used to at the other location. For example, the shaved fennel salad, one of my all- time favorites was chunks of fennel not shaved and about one third of the portion size as Olar Noso. All of the other dishes we ordered were similarly portioned. As a result, I am now hesitant to return even to the Olar Noso location. Hopefully these concerns will be addressed and Olar can continue its' tradition of great food and service in Nyack. read more

The restaurants' servers have GREAT customer service, but the remarks and the direct disrespect to the staff made me very uncomfortable. The owner is disrespectful to the employees, treating them like garbage and ignoring their humanity. read more
