We've walked by this place a number of times. Curious about the inviting open walled dining that calls passer-Byers in from the street. Finally decided to give it a try. The owner, very serious, and manning the bar, but his sister tending to all of us . We hit the perfect seat we wanted by the open walled facing the sidewalk so we could enjoy fresh air and people watch at the same time. The couple next to us reconnected the pan seared shrimp in a garlic and lemon brine, with saffron rice, and crostini. Order a bottle of wine or sangria, and you've made it a night. Would love to go back and try more of their menu

My wife and I visited the new Olar Meu in Nyack for Valentine's Day, and had a really great meal. Bottom line: it's really great. Had a terrific meal at a surprisingly reasonable price given the amount of food we got. We're lucky to have Olar in Nyack, adding another top-line restaurant right next to the iconic Hudson House. I'm a terrible food blogger and a worse food photographer, but here goes: The biggest deal to me was getting authentic Paella in Nyack -- or really, anywhere in Rockland. I spent a summer in Spain as a high school kid, and have never forgotten how great true Paella is when it captures the tastes of both brine and saffron. Too many times I've been disappointed by "paella" that's really just "spanish rice" -- no brine, no saffron, just rice with some spices in it. But Olar's Paella is the real deal, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. It was wonderful and really took me back. The other dishes were also very good, including some tapas: The grilled octopus was really tender and tasty. You always risk a rubbery texture with octopus, but this was perfect. A highlight! The mushrooms with burrata was delicious. Anytime you heat burrata you lose some of the texture, and it becomes more like melted mozzarella. But who doesn't love melted mozzarella, particularly paired with a garlicky assortment of mushrooms. Really good. The Cod croquettes were crispy and light and yummy, and the sauce had just enough bit. But like lots of tapas you're better off ordering them if you have more of a group -- four croquettes for two people was a little more food than we needed. Finally, we had the panna cotta for dessert, which was really good. If panna cotta is on the menu, I get it, so this was a particular treat that they offered it. Also, service was great, very friendly, and the space, which is not nearly finished, showed promises of what it's going to become. They don't have a liquor license, which meant a dry dinner (and you can't byob), but that was fine. Some people might want to wait until they can pair some wine and sangria with their meals, though. Again, the bottom line is that it was great, and a really powerful addition to the dining scene. We had enough food that we took home lunch for the next day (Paella is a surprisingly good takeout food!). Really happy they're here.

I'm an O Lar regular since Piermont. I could not be more excited that Miguel is back with a new (LARGER!) spot. Even better, it's in the heart of Nyack. The food is excellent. You really can't go wrong with anything, but start with some Spanish fries for the table. Split a salad. Then order some seafood, or an excellent paella. As others have noted, no liquor license yet, and you can't BYOB (blame NYS not Miguel). Hopefully by summer we will be enjoying Sangria and perhaps some gin and tonics. Come down, meet Miguel, have some food. It's worth a trip!

While I do love the duck breast and lamb chops included with the Classic package, we all felt Essentials was enough for this visit. Celia was our waitress. While things were a little slow getting started, once our first order went in, the food started flying out. Everything we ordered throughout the evening arrived much faster than it did on my previous visit. The menu makes it sound like they'll throttle you to only a couple of items at a time, but that really wasn't our experience. We were consistently able to order several items per person, so there was always something on the grill, more food on the way, and plenty to keep us chomping away. Our favorites this time? The top blade, brisket, hanger steak, pork belly, and even the salmon ceviche, which was surprisingly refreshing between rounds of grilled meat. We did have a couple of hiccups, but Celia was eager to make things right. After we received the wrong shrimp twice, she took it upon herself to get the manager involved. They tracked down the correct shrimp and brought it out. Thanks! Speaking of the manager, Andy was terrific. After another unpleasantry at our table, he came over and sincerely apologized several times. It was obvious he genuinely wanted to make things right. After we took a quick selfie together, he got us with a few complimentary cocktails. I have to say, anything here with cucumber in it is delicious here. Super refreshing. By the end of the meal, my son was a fluent griller and even said he liked Gyuzo more than the other all-you-can-eat BBQ places we've visited. That's about as good an endorsement as I can give. We'll certainly be back.

Unfortunately, we never even got to eat at the restaurant because of how disorganized the front desk was. We were quoted a 35-45 minute wait and were told to join the Yelp waitlist. We stood nearby the entire time waiting to be called. We never received any notification on our phones, and when we checked the app, our status had somehow changed from "waiting" to "cancelled." When we spoke with the hostess, she apologized and told us to wait because she would seat us next. Instead, we watched four other parties get seated before us. After waiting even longer, we went back to ask what was happening, only to be told it would be another 15-20 minutes. From what we observed, it also seemed like the restaurant was prioritizing seating larger parties over smaller ones. I can't say for certain whether that was their policy, but that's certainly how it appeared from our experience as multiple larger groups were seated while we continued to wait despite being told we were next. I completely understand that popular restaurants get busy, and I have no issue waiting my turn. What I do have an issue with is poor communication and disorganization from the hostess team. Mistakes happen, but telling customers they'll be seated next and then repeatedly seating other parties first is unacceptable. To make matters worse, this was our second night this weekend trying to eat here, and once again we left without ever getting a table. Despite the inconvenience and poor experience, no one offered an apology beyond a brief acknowledgment, nor was there any attempt to make things right or show goodwill for the time we had wasted. The food may be excellent, but we'll never know because the front-of-house experience was so poorly managed. A great restaurant starts with good customer service, and unfortunately, the hostess team left a very poor first impression. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this restaurant.

Abdul, our bartender, remembered my name, which made us feel genuinely welcomed and valued. It's those personal touches that create a memorable dining experience. During our meal, we accidentally ordered the wrong paella. We knew it was our mistake and never intended to ask for a replacement. However, the owner overheard our conversation and immediately stepped in to make it right without hesitation. That level of hospitality and customer care is rare and speaks volumes about how they treat their guests. The attention to detail extends to the bar as well. Their Old Fashioned is made the way it should be--with a large ice block that keeps the drink cold without watering it down. As John Taffer often says, "If an Old Fashioned doesn't have a large ice block, they're not paying attention to detail." Basque clearly does. If you're looking for outstanding food, exceptional service, and a restaurant that truly cares about its customers, I highly recommend Basque. Give it a try--you won't be disappointed.

The seafood paellas are portion perfect ie; large, the tapas favorites include garlic shrimp, octopus, croquetas, Iberico ham, lamb chops, and seasonal specials. The staff is friendly, the clientele is neighborly, and you're guaranteed to enjoy your restaurant experience here. For Piermont, it's one of the strongest dining experiences available, particularly if one enjoys sharing plates. If you're going for the first time, I'd order the garlic shrimp, a few tapas to share, and one of the paellas for the table. Thank you Benny for bringing Piermont to our neighborhood. *For those across the river in Westchester, enjoy Basque in Tarrytown.
