Oof. I've never waited so long for two sandwiches in a long time. We finished a job around the corner. Like a few other patrons there we waited over an hour for our food. We felt bad for the waitresses as they were trying to keep all the guest happy. The sad part was that the walk in to go orders were going out faster and priority over the people actually waiting. By the time our food was ready we had to leave. Nearly an hour and a half for a club sandwich with onion rings and a reuben with fries. I cant speak for the reuben. The club was pretty standard. The onion rings were really good as recommended by our waitress Dorothy. Great recommendation but man the kitchen needs to get it together. Neat place with great potential yet kitchen will hurt it if people are waiting hours for basic food. Cute little establishment but man you can only look at everything for so long. read more

This restaurant has attempted to make it under more than a couple of operators. The food is mediocre at best. All frozen, then fried foods. Nothing special except the history of the original old General store. Wait staff and kitchen staff comes and goes. The atmosphere is forced, not authentic. If you are really hungry, you can get some food but its nothing to write home about. read more

I was able to finally check this place out, since they have new ownership with new hours! It didn't disappoint. It can be a bit difficult to find parking during the busy times but there wasn't a wait. It is a quaint little building with great lakeside decor. The service was fine, not spectacular but I have a feeling they will get better as they go. The food was excellent. I ended up having the club sandwich and it was a great portion. They were out of fries (it was around 1pm) so I ended up with onion rings and they were excellent. The rest of the table got Shrimp and Grits, country fried steak and a deconstructed beef stew (it was pork beef, no stew). Overall, I'm glad I tried it but I will give it a few weeks to get the kinks worked out before I return. I would definitely recommend trying this place! read more

Found this spot three weekends ago and we've come in each weekend since for breakfast. A cozy breakfast/lunch restaurant that's only open on the weekends until 3. Staff is great and the food is better. Biscuits are amazing and the pancakes are the size of man hole covers. Best breakfast we've had in Habersham county. read more

We have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years. Apparently new operators, now with different more extensive menu, more severs and help in general. Food was good, service was great. Very cute little restaurant, but not functioning very well at this time. 3 of us went on a Sunday at about 1:00. As we walked in the door we were greeted by a very nice young lady who told us the kitchen was backed up, we decided to stay. They had no burgers and were out of lime for the water. I really want them to make it but I don't know if it will happen unless it is managed much more efficiently than it was today. I ordered the chicken biscuit. Careful on hours. Says open everyday but Tuesday. At 11:00 on a Monday doors were locked. 5 cars pulled up in 5 minutes. No closed sign on door. I would call first b4 driving. We were going to try for first time. Looks nice but don't know about the food since they were closed. read more

Barbara (I believe) was super friendly and funny (as you can see from the "Ashes of Problem Customers" jar picture), and the menu has some down-home food options. Forewarning - she was the only server and her son is the only cook, so it's not as fast as some places but it was not an overly long wait. We heard about this on Yelp, and wanted to try it. Delicious burgers and fries. The servers were very friendly, in fact, our server asked if we needed anything, so I asked if they had any thousand island dressing, as we like to dip our fries in it. She said no, and I said ketchup works fine too. But when she brought us our food, she had made up some thousand island dressing, special, just for us. What a surprise this place was! We needed some grub after hiking & swimming all day, so we tried this place. Family owned (super friendly family!) & nicely priced. We sat outside in the little bar area & were entertained by the vocal stylings of Scott Puckett (great guy!) Don't be discouraged by the smaller menu. Trust me, the cheeseburger is all you'll ever need. Those Handmade patties of delicious goodness even come with Hand-cut French fries that I also rate as delicious. Good it get any better you ask? Uh, yeah it can. My friends & I played both the free beer games & i won 2 free beers! I'll be back whenever I'm up hiking that way for sure! I unfortunately rode through the BATESVILLE GENERAL STORE for many... many years, not knowing they had some amazing burgers and fries for lunch. My buddy Stephen one day sent me a message and asked "Have you ever been here... they are quite good..." which my response was "they serve food!!??". Shame on me for not checking but now I never miss an opportunity when near the area to stop by and fuel my body. This particular time I went with some friends who decided to join me on a quick ride and lunch so I decided to taken them for some burgers at BATESVILLE GENERAL. I have never been there for breakfast but from what I have been told they are just as good. They are also remodeling the location so they'll be open for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays as well with weekly specials on the menu for dinner time. I've had friends order different menu items (BLT, CUBAN, SALAD) and they all said it was great. For me, I stick with their BATESVILLE BURGER which comes with 2 meat patties with the usual burger fixings. I always add bacon to my order because.... come on, let's be serious... it's bacon. the burger itself cost 8 dollars and it comes with chips but I always order the fries because they have some of THE best french fries and it's because of how crispy and well done they cook them. The fries aren't burnt but every single fry you eat is crispy and tasty with zero soggy going on, which I hate. Good tasting burger patties combined with good (not too thick) bread and fries makes $10 worth the stop if you are within 30 minutes of this place (Helen, Cleveland, Cornelia). If you enjoy mountain views, lakes, rivers, waterfalls or anything that the north side of Georgia has to offer then be sure to stop by the GENERAL BATESVILLE STORE and check out their burgers and location!! We were a little road weary and needed a cup of coffee, but what we found was the best service I've encountered in my 55 years. Had a meet and eat here and our group even made reservations for time and approx amount. Ended up waiting an hour to be seated upon arriving, another 40-50 mins to get drinks out, and another 30-40 mins to get food out. My dad and I both had the Cuban which while tasty didn't have much in it filling wise, I had potato salad that had almost no flavor, and he had fries that were cold and hard like they had been way way overcooked and let sit out. I have been coming to the Batesville General Store for almost a decade now, and the quality of food and service has greatly deteriorated in that time. The 'Best Biscuits in Batesville' earn that title only by default: there are no other biscuits in Batesville. For breakfast, the food itself is just OK and the menu is very limited. The lunch menu is barely acceptable, with overdone, pre-formed hamburger patties and bagged crinkle cut fries from Sysco (or whatever food service provider they use). It's the kind of cheap, standard food that doesn't satisfy but isn't so terrible as to be offending, much like that crappy deli in the lobby of your office building. Far worse than the food, however, are the excuses. I'll ignore the one Saturday morning with a full house where they decided they were going to stop making biscuits because they "took too long" (they eventually relented when enough tables revolted, and over an hour later we got our biscuits), and relate my most recent excursion there: I was told when I walked in that I would have to wait half an hour while they make fresh biscuits. No problem. Oh, by the way, the credit card machine is out too because the phone company needs to come out and fix their lines. That's fine, I'll pay cash. Then, when I ordered the chicken, I was informed that they were out of chicken because "the truck hadn't come in," and that "they usually forget stuff on the truck, so we have to wait for them to come back." OK, fine, I get it: they're at the mercy of Sysco, and too lazy to drive down the road to pick up chicken themselves. Give me some sausage and eggs with a biscuit instead and yes, I'll wait for the biscuit. A few minutes later, I get my lonely looking sausage and eggs out together, with no biscuit or gravy. I wanted to eat my sausage on a biscuit, so this was a problem. When I asked why they didn't wait until the biscuits were ready, I was told it would be another five minutes and "by then the eggs would have cooked under the heater." So, somehow, letting me stare at my cooling eggs and sausage while waiting on the one thing I actually really wanted was a better alternative than waiting a few minutes to fire the eggs. Whatever. Family members have suggested that this is just the way things work in the country but, since there are a number of establishments in this area where I get great service without any excuses, I don't think that's the case. Whatever the problem, I won't be going back to research it anymore: it's clearly not their fault. read more

Blackened Salmon was cooked perfectly. Strip which was substitute for rib eye was very tender at medium. Ribs were gigantic in size and very tender also. All sides were excellent as was salad to begin. Did not try desserts but they looked very delicious. Batesville is a little off the beaten path but if you go up Hwy 197, enjoy the ride. Delicious. Great start to a day in the mountains or on the lake. You've gotta try the "Best Biscuits in Batesville" and load up on the rest of the breakfast foods. I've eaten here several times and at all times of the day, but I have never strayed off the breakfast menu. Nice atmosphere and good people also. Plan to stay awhile - not in a good way. Every now and again we stop here and after waiting over 30 minutes for a simple chicken salad sandwich with only three other tables occupied. we remember why we don't come too often. We went to this location this morning, every time we come the biscuits are hard as a rock and this morning I thought I finally got a decent chicken biscuit only to find out the chicken wasn't cooked all the way through. Disclaimer: I visited the restaurant in June 2016, so hopefully the more recent reviews are reflective of an improvement. In regards to my visit, I was very disappointed. I have heard good things about this restaurant, and expected a great meal. I met a friend for a weekday lunch and the place was being run by two very young teenage girls. The girls definitely didn't know what they were doing, and asked us to pay in cash because they didn't know how to use the card reader. The menu is incredibly limited, and the food was less than average. Pre-formed, overcooked, dry hamburger patties took way too long to get to our table. The location is a quaint and cute place, with potential to be a good little restaurant. I hope they are able to make some major improvements with the food and service. read more
