I've been wanting to try Old Blinking Light for quite some time, and finally made it here last night for dinner. Unfortunately the food and the ambiance leave something to be desired. The decor inside is kind of odd- random gem rocks scattered around, a big blue antler chandelier, and a fake magnolia tree lit up in green. Then fans that are made from fishing rod and old bicycle parts. It just didn't feel very cohesive and all felt kind of random and slapped together. Then for food, we started with the sweet and spicy shrimp which were okay... they were heavy on the Cajun seasoning which just made them super salty but not necessarily spicy. Serving size was also small. My husband ordered an old fashioned as well but didn't even drink half because he said it had too much booze and cherry, and then had a lot of ice. So booze forward at the beginning and then quickly got watered down. For mains, I had the Mac and cheese with grilled chicken. Chicken was over cooked and dry but the Mac and cheese with green Chile was really good. My husband got the smothered burger with fries which was delicious! First time here. Really good looking menu. I had the lamb sirloin, cooked medium, which was perfect. Meat could've been a little warmer, but the lamb was juicy and tender. Flavor in the gnocchi and brussel sprouts were both delicious. My wife enjoyed her Parmesan gnocchi too. The couple with us enjoyed their food as well. One funny thing...the guy ordered a salad with blackened shrimp. It came out with shrimp that was definitely not blackened. It went back and then came out again less than five minutes later. Turns out the shrimp wasn't replaced with blackened shrimp. Rather, they just added spices to the top of the original shrimp and considered it blackened. Wow. The kitchen really had an off day today :( The service was great, but the food....sigh. We ordered the Buffalo chicken flatbread again, because it was phenomenal last time. This time, the edges were burnt, and instead of the many good-sized chunks of delicious tender chicken on our first order, this one had TWO chunks, a few really small ones, and fried bits of batter that contained no chicken whatsoever. We had one small piece each. We ordered the Caesar salad with extra dressing. It came on two plates this time, with NO dressing on the salad, just a little cup on the side of each plate. I really, really dislike having to toss the salad on the plate. Some usually ends up on the table, and the dressing never coats the salad evenly. Very disappointing. Previously, the salad arrived tossed and drenched in dressing. I ordered the black bean veggie burger with white cheddar and grilled onions, plus truffle fries. The burger was good. The fries were too greasy and not hot when they arrived. I had four and was done. BF's classic burger was tasteless. No salt, no pepper, just blah. He could only eat half of it. His fries were mostly tiny crispy pieces instead of long strips of yumminess. He didn't eat them either. The bread pudding was great. But it was premade, and thus the kitchen couldn't ruin it. Our server, Brandy, did explain that the computers were down, and brought the manager over. He was very, very nice, listened to us, and reduced the bill. However, one of the most important things to us is consistency. OBL failed us today. BF left hungry. We will probably never go back. read more

I've been going to OBL for the last 13 years. I've celebrated multiple birthdays and every family member that ever visited from out of town or out of state we would bring to OBL to celebrate. Tonight I was told that I'm no longer allowed in OBL because I questioned the radical changes being made by the new person in charge "GM". Apparently, my opinion didn't matter and it was best that I no longer be allowed in the restaurant permanently. To be honest, I was already contemplating not going back to OBL after these changes and the new GM that said it was all about profit and not losing money but this only solidified my thoughts and feelings about what this place has become. A typical chain restaurant that only focuses on profit and doesn't care about the family or friendship that comes after a decade. This place used to be amazing and almost like a second home to a lot of folks. I know that most of my friends will no longer go to OBL as often or at all after tonight. A 3.6 current rating is generous for this place. Go somewhere else for drinks that aren't watered down and has a staff that at least pretends that you're valued as long time patron or even liked at all. read more

My family really loves this place. There is really something for everyone. The Brussels sprouts are amazing, crispy and flavorful with a touch of sweet soy. The have a full menu, ranging from salmon, buffalo meatloaf, lamb sirloin, tacos, pizza, and a verity of yummy options on a bun. My favorite is the smothered chicken sandwich. You can get it "Christmas" style or with just Red or Green chili. My son leans toward the Shrimp Po 'Boy with a side of duck fat fries. The service is friendly and attentive. They have a nice outside covered patio with a good amount of seating. I always like to try new places in town, but we tend to frequent OBL because they hit the mark each time. read more

My family and I have been going here since we moved here over 13 years ago. We have celebrated countless birthdays and precious family moments in this restaurant and unfortunately that came to an end this evening. Since Old Blinking Light was taken over by new ownership, the things we valued so much about this place have changed tremendously. The prices were increased on most of the menu items, items were taken off, and there is now a charge for using a credit card. Drinks have also been very watered down and the staff haven't been nearly as welcoming to me and my family. After noticing the changes my dad asked the new owner about the changes (in a very calm manner) in which she responded "the price increase was to money loss" and that was that. Tonight we went to celebrate yet another birthday and at the end of our evening we were told that we are not welcome back. The reasoning was that my dad had asked too many questions i guess? This new general manager has changed OBL into your typical chain restaurant. It's very sad that one person can come in and change something that's been so good for over a decade. read more

Service was slow and food was bland. The most flavorful thing on the menu is the kid's pizza. Atmosphere was nice, tried being classy but not quite there. Plus side was how quickly new waters were brought out and the staff was courteous. One of the most delicious salads I have had in a long time and my salmon was perfect.

Came here for a wedding rehearsal dinner December 8th. The menu was a little differ than the normal menu so I can only speak for my experience. Tortilla soup- coming from San Diego, I can confidently say this is not Tortilla soup, no flavors of Mexico were added, no citrus or heat present... however it was a nice vegetable consume. Salad- I can't remember which one, I believe it was Caesar. This was fine, no major wow moments, but fine. Salmon dinner- salmon was cooked perfectly. Vegetables were cooked well and had a nice bite. Flourless chocolate brownie- this was very dry, but had good chocolate flavor. Staff was diligent with the large group however often got orders wrong. Overall nice atmosphere, decent food. read more

First time coming here for take out. Love the concept and general everything about this place but the quality of the food in the plastic containers was a tad disappointing. Overall, probably a 3.5/5 experience, but due to the promise I think this place has going to round up to 4! Really enjoyed the brussels sprouts and the BLAT (added chicken) with french fries. Fries had great flavor but were definitely victim to steaming and losing it's crispiness via take out containers. The shrimp po boy had good flavor and the ailoi was on point, however there was way too much bread compared to filling. Would probably skip this one in the future. read more

We came for a dinner on a Saturday. It was fairly empty in the restaurant at first. I asked for water without ice and had to remind about it 2 more times before getting it. It was just unfiltered tap water. I use Brita pitcher at home and it tastes better than this. The place was very noisy. It is hard to hear even when there are no people next to you. The menu is kind of disappointing. It seems that things are simplified in comparison with the past. My steak came with a mountain of fries. No veggies, no bread. It was tasty but too simple. Dessert menu is the same for years. That's where a change would be nice. I don't plan on coming again. read more

Dined here last night, a Saturday night. First note is the menu looks very different. Many of our favorite items are no longer available. One of the things that has always drawn us to OBL has been their unique menu and great Selection. It appears that they have also reduced their staff. There were more empty tables than occupied tables and we saw them turn away a family at the door. It seems like the owners are making decisions based on expenses and not customer experience. This has long been one of our favorites here in Highlands Ranch, but based on last nights experience, this may no longer be the case. There's a very old saying and it goes like this "don't water Down the soup". You can't fool your customers! I hope they see the light and are able to turn things around before it's too late. read more

It definitely has a suburban vibe to it which to me makes a great place to hang out with family and friends for a few hours. For the appetizers, I tried the pork taquitos which was alright. Poor management: my wife and I waited over 35 minutes for patio seating. Come to find out that the manager gave away the one table that did open to someone else (who was seated inside and got moved to the patio based on their request- most likely buddies) without checking with the hostess. After another 20 minutes, when we were about to give up and take our chances with another restaurant on a Friday night, they seated us. There were no apologies or even an acknowledgment by the hostess that they screwed up. Morale of this experience- don't assume the hostess will care for you at this restaurant. read more

We complained and were told it was on. Nothing they could do. Then it did go up one degree to 62. Everyone was shivering with winter coats on. Beet salad looked great. I was pleasantly surprised with the big portions of fish when my modified salad arrived! I wasn't expecting much, hence why I ordered both salmon and tuna to top my Cobb salad (where I removed the turkey, cheese, bacon and dressing). That being said, totally wolfed the whole thing because it was quite tasty. One thing I wish though... That it specified on the menu that the tuna and salmon would be BLACKENED. I don't like BLACKENED seasoning so I would have requested my fish without it but... It was okay. And as I said, I cleaned my plate! My husband only got the tuna tar tar appetizer and wolfed it no problem, so that's a good sign!! Over all, I'd eat here again! read more

Seems like this place needs to be run by adults. It seems they have plenty of regulars so I'm sure this review won't go too far in terms of changes made. Service always seems decent at first but once you receive your Luke warm meal good luck getting staff attention. They seem more interested in discussing their weekend plans than checking in on meals. read more

When a last minute tee time fell through (due to rain) we opted for light bites and brews to kick off happy hour. Having OBL bookmarked for a while now, we opted to try this local staple. LOCATION/VIBES: Located in a newer area of Highlands Ranch, the digs are spacious, offer a great patio and has decent parking - for being in a strip mall. Because the owner was inspired by Taos, NM, the space features large oak tables, southwestern artwork adorn the walls, Edison bulbs hang from the ceiling with iron work surrounded, and colorful pillows are put on each booth. My favorite piece? The bright blue antler chandelier hanging in the entrance! Locals flock here, and it's easy to see why. Everyone is so nice, friendly and will easily make you feel right at home. BOOZE: Happy hour is featured until 6pm (although we missed it), which includes specialty craft cocktails, local beers on tap and an impressive wine list. I opted for a pint of the Living The Dream IPA, which wasn't what arrived, but was just as good. Our guests also enjoyed brews while my husband sipped on his signature drink. FOOD: YUM! While the dinner menu was extensive and sounded delicious, we decided light bites were in order. We chose to nosh on the nachos (which were HUGE!) and their famous shrimp - which was perfectly fried and tossed in a sweet/spicy chili sauce! They pride themselves on seasonal american food with southwestern soul, which can easily be tasted! SERVICE: Pretty decent for being a locals favorite! Although the cocktail waitress didn't see is sit down (bar is open seating), when I went to the bar for menus, she happily helped us! Everyone was so nice and friendly! We had lunch here I party of six. My ruby red trout was nicely done and moist and tasty with butternut squash ravioli and cooked spinach. The others reported their food was very good as well. One had the vegan pizza, one had the shrimp tacos, another had the fish and chips another had the smoked turkey sandwich and the other a Burger I think. Being fairly new Highlands Ranch residents, we thought this might become their "go-to" Friday night out spot. Unfortunately, their experience was very disappointing. Their waiter was almost non-existent ...except when it came to grabbing his tip off the table while they were still finishing their cocktails. Then, to top things off, the lights were turned off on the patio where they were seated. it was 8:30 on a Friday night...30 minutes prior to closing time. RUDE!!! To say this place is amazing is an absolute understatement. My newly engaged fiancé and I went here for our celebratory meal and we were in for a treat! Our waitress was great! She was on top of everything and was friendly with her recommendations. For our meals, I got a shrimp poboy and regular duck fat fries. It was AMAZING. the shrimp was perfectly fresh and lightly coated, there was just the right amount of bread vs insides. My fiancé got the seared ahi sandwich with sweet potato fries and it was great too! The ahi was cooked perfectly, but a bit too much bread. It needed some sort of sauce or something in it to moisten the bread a tad. The sweet potato fries were excellent! Definitely recommend upgrading! For dessert, we had a perfectly warm white chocolate raspberry bundt cake. It was so buttery and the perfect combination of sweet and fruity. We love this place! This experience was a bit disappointing. We have been here before and ordered the shrimp po boy and the green chili Mac and cheese, both of which were fantastic. This time we tried some different dishes with restaurant week and we regret it. We had the ancho chili ribeye and the new Mexico Salmon with the posole and shrimp appetizers to start. The shrimp was good, same as the po boy, but everything else was nothing special. I can make better posole at home. The salmon was tender but bland, the steak was ok, about the same as outback but more expensive. Service was fine, no complaints there. We will probably go back, but stick to what we know is good. Visited OBL for the first and only time when we first moved to HR and some friends from our previous neighborhood purchased us a gift card. We went for a date night and are generally pretty Our server was okay, more non-attentive/non-personable than attentive but kind. Food wasn't amazing for the price - we got ceviche, green Chile chicken Alfredo, a few other items & it was all pretty bland and/or oily. Lighting kind of reminded me of a poorly-lit Chipotle which is odd for a sit-down restaurant. Three stars instead of one or two because nothing overtly bad happened; definitely not a drag to those who love it - those reviewers seem to love it a lot! In my opinion, there are much better spots to eat in Highlands Ranch/Lone Tree/Greenwood Village/Littleton especially for the price. read more

I know if I want a good meal and a menu with too many options for me to choose from because I like everything I've tried, well this is the spot. I've never had bad service or bad food.
