First time trying this restaurant. I heard about it from a friend awhile ago but never selected it because it was in my 'hood. I ordered a medium Garbage pizza deep dish along with a Caesar salad for delivery. The salad missed the trip due to it not being available, but I was reimbursed eventually after calling about it so I kept my feelings in check. Usually I order from Lou Malnati, Barracco's, or even Reggio's, but I wanted something different this time. It wasn't bad, actually I found it rather tasty. It's been years since I last had one of these. There was plenty of all the ingredients needed, at least as far as I could remember, to qualify it as a Garbage along with lots of sausage. It lasted two days much to my surprise. Next time I might go for a large one instead, but keep the salad optional. read more

I was in the mood for something 'different' from my typical pizza experience. I drove past this place a few times before, and decided to give it a try. I got a small cheese pizza; my go-to option. The pizza cost $9, so I figured if it's great, then awesome...but if not, then oh well lol. The pizza just didn't look appetizing upon opening the box, but looks can be deceiving perhaps. I tried it, and it's the most bland pizza I've ever had. The sauce is almost nonexistent; very cheap! Each slice just fell apart upon each attempt to eat it, and after about 4 slices...I tapped out. I mean, this pizza did taste a 'tad' better once I added salt and crushed red pepper...but not by much. I keep seeing reviews about their deep dish being better, but I'll need to refresh my memory of the very lackluster thin crust in order for me to consider trying it. Perhaps if you have the extra 'medicinal munchies', this pizza will get the job done. However, if you're a pizza snob (like myself), just go to the major league spots (Lou's, Ginos, Home Run Inn, Tortorices, etc). read more

Ordered a medium meat sensation deep dish. This was actually my first time ever having pizza from this company. I actually really did enjoy it. This pizza came with Canadian bacon, sausage, beef, Mozzarella cheese and pepperoni. The crust reminds me of a buttery piecrust. Terrible: Tasted like the inside of a sardine can! Old Chicago used cheap, canned "fried-rice shrimp" and ingredients. My pizza needed garlic, oregano, and some love. Not made with love and it shows! Ordered the Cheese & Shrimp deep dish. ( I usually get Pizza Capri's [hyde park] Spinach & Shrimp deep dish, made with fresh peeled shrimp! ) Margaritas or Italian Fiesta is waaaay better... The customer service is TERRIBLE & I mean TERRIBLE! I stood in line waiting to be serviced by the cashier and here comes a guy (I'm assuming the manager/owner; and based on previous reviews the SAME 'rude guy') telling me to step up and place my order before the cashier even had a chance to finish the transaction with the customer before me! She was still counting his change, and just sat his money to the side. I purchased 2 deep dish slices of pizza for $7 (not bad, which is why they even have the one star that I've given) Throughout the whole visit 'rude guy' is bouncing around EVERYWHERE, preparing orders in a sloppy manner, and rushing customers. One guy brought his order back stating he was allergic to pepperoni and that he'd take any other type of pizza prepared but he can't do pepperoni. 'Rude Guy' just stared at him, and proceeded to make him wait without even suggesting he'd resolve the issue. Here's where things really went left...I asked 'Rude Guy' for some to-go packets of parmesan cheese as he was handing my food through the window he proceeds to say in a verrryyy rude tone "Come on hunny go gotta ask me for that ahead of time" (in a irritated tone). I respond by telling him "Hold on, I'm a customer and you don't talk to a customer in such a way, all I asked for was some parmesan cheese packets". He then says "your a customer...?" as if he couldn't understand the correlation between business etiquette, and simply treating customers with respect. I kindly responded "you know what sir have a great day I'll give you a nice review". I'm not sure what it is about businesses of this sort but they tend to treat customers very rude and with disrespect, seeing that their business is established in a predominantly black community they feel as if they can talk to us any type of way and assume that we'll continue to patronize their business. Where do I start with the pizza. Delivery guy came too in front of my house which I loved cause it's like going threw a maze too get too me. The pizza, I ordered a medium pepperoni, bell peppers, and hot peppers with extra mozzarella. The dough was crunchy yet it literally melts in every chew which I love. The sauce was good asf and they topped it with sum type of basil n butter on top or sum cause I taste an extra ingredient on top. After spending a day in the city hunting for parking, trying to avoid pedestrians and paying parking fees we decided to search for a pizzeria off the beaten path! Our GPS pointed us here and we googled it and thought it was a chain! Surprise - it apparently just shares the name with a chain with a cool website. We decided to go for it and ordered a family size deep dish for about $23 bucks. My sister ordered a slice of deep dish cheese with a soda for about $3 bucks. Both pieces that I sampled were simply delicious!! I prefer St. Louis style thin crust but the cheese was awesome and lots of it. Now, they don't take plastic and it took 40 minutes for the pizza but it was well worth the wait and we had no trouble finding off street parking. I have been around this place either walking or driving and never really thought much of it. I tried it previously years ago with a friend and I remember it not tasting bad but it was only a slice. This time I ordered a family size pizza which was only roughly $14 and it was worth it. I was surprised by how much pizza $14 could buy you especially since the higher end pizza places (Leona's..ehh) and the pizza was good. The only issue I have is that one it's on 79th and King Drive, which by itself is enough to deter certain folks and secondly, my pizza was not cut all the way through (imagine eating awesome pizza but having to rip it apart by hand...it sucked) but other than that...it was awesome. read more

COURTYARD BUILDING RESIDENTS BE AWARE - When I first discovered Old Chicago on 79th in October 2013, it was a pleasant surprise. Food was delivered hot, delivery driver was polite, & never had an issue when ordering from them via Grubhub. Fast forward to today, there is a new policy in place regarding the customer having to GO TO THE CAR to retrieve their food. Not sure about you but that seems to defeat the purpose of having food delivered, especially as I know most delivery drivers call prior to their arrival so I'm already downstairs by the time they pull up to my building. The driver began to explain the new policy and when I made a simple inquiry as to how long it had been in effect, he copped an attitude and said "Always". When I asked how long he'd been working for them , he stated a year, to which I then advised, "Then it is INDEED a new policy because I've ordered from here longer than you have been working there." I then told him I wasn't going to argue with him anymore and quickly advised Grubhub of the situation. The manager explained that it is a new policy due to issues that had arisen. Overall, the food is good and decently priced. I imagine that if you reside in a house, you may not have this issue. However, if you are a person/family who resides in a courtyard type building, make sure you have on shoes & a jacket if needed to pick up your food from the delivery driver as apparently they're not trained to leave their vehicles going forward. read more

I was expecting so much more out a place that deems themselves as Old Chicago Pizza. The only positive things I can say was that the delivery time was great and that they deliver to my house which is by the lake. Now to the bad first off they gave me the wrong pizza and they didnt even call or anything to make sure so I am gathering the people who got my pizza didnt care. Secondly the blade they used to cut it had to be as sharp as the safety scissors that kindergarteners use. Thirdly the sausage, sauce and dough was terrible. It was toooooo sweet and inconsistent with it being thick in some places and thin in the others. and the way they layer it is terrible I picked up one piece and the whole topping fell off. I dont know if I just caught them on a bad night compared to the reviews I have read but based on this experience I wish I could give negative stars. Good luck read more
