Been here a few times now and have to say the food is good but the service and atmosphere need addressing. Music is weird and could use something better. Delicious! A western bar and grill feel where locals gather and visitors are welcome! We had the bacon wrapped wings for an appetizer and they were fantastic! The bacon was crispy and the inside was cheesy with just a hint of spicy! The staff were friendly and helpful! We had the Cali cheesesteak for our entree with sides of fries and Mac and cheese. First off the bat. The food we tried was delicious! We weren't able to try our dinner meal because, the bartender forgot to put the order in. Our biggest issue is this isn't the first time this has happened. It's been a while since we have been here. We love everything about this place except the service has been so bad every single time. We sit at the bar in other restaurants because, you normally get good service. We came early this time to grab a bite before the crowd shows up. We ordered a beer. Had to flag the bar tender down to get a second and order an appetizer. We also ordered our dinner at the same time but, told him we didn't want our app at the same time as our dinner. After waiting an hour, we asked about our dinner. Was told it still wasn't ready. So, we cancelled it. We couldn't even get our empty beer glasses filled. Bartenders would just walk by like they had blinders on. Now, I understand they got busy but, one of the bartenders decided she needed a smoke break and left. The environment and atmosphere here are great, they have a giant horseshoe bar with several TV's always playing an array of sporting events. The only downfall is that they're usually understaffed (slow service) and you MUST ask for menus and silverware. Every time. Came up from Fort Worth with my 2 year old son to visit my parents and we decided to try this place out. This restaurant has a great location on the square, and a really nice outdoor patio area. We sat ourselves outside and were approached pretty quickly by a waitress. She gave us menus and took our drink orders and left. After that it took a while before she came back with our drinks and once she did we ordered some appetizers. It took forever to get the monkey balls we ordered and we never received the chips and salsa we asked for. Monkey balls were delish and my son even ate them up! We ordered our food a little while later and again, it took ages to get it out. The restaurant wasn't super busy so not sure what was going on. After finally getting our food, I can say it definitely wasn't worth the wait. I got the pork street tacos with the Elote and asked for a side of avocado. The avocado cost $1.50 extra and I was served 3 slices of pure brown avocado. Ick. Also, the tacos were so soggy and luke warm. Seemed like they had been sitting around in pork grease for a while. And the elotes just tasted like corn from a can. My father ordered a salad and wasn't even asked what dressing he wanted on it and it came smothered in what he thought was ranch dressing which he doesn't even like. My son got a hotdog and he liked it and my mother got the club which she said was ok. We probably should have spoken our concerns to the waitress, but my family doesn't like confrontation, so we just dealt with it. Overall, it was a 'meh' experience. I don't know if it was an off day, or the waitress was new, but was not super impressed with this restaurant. I'd go back just to give it a second chance to see if maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but I don't have high expectations. I found out via Twitter that the Old Iron Post has $2 margaritas all day on Wednesdays & I just had to give it a try. I had a traditional margarita, the portion was great for the price, good flavor, & a good amount of tequila! I was VERY impressed. I had pork street tacos with an elote for the side. The tacos were very tasty with a generous amount of meat in each & the elote was also pretty good! Our waitress was very attentive. The restaurant has a cool vibe & great hours. The host asked my wife and I to sit at a tiny table by the window rather than cleaning off a bigger table that was empty but filthy. Our waiter was very nice and attentive and the food was pretty good and reasonably priced. And then there were bugs. I know it's a bar and you have bar flies, but this was ridiculous. I stopped eating my fries when I saw a little fly climb up one. Then I saw a cockroach scurry across the floor. A big, Texas-sized, cockroach. I was done. Stopped here on a whim because it had outdoor dining in a beautiful Sunday afternoon! The waiter was very nice, the suggestions he made regarding the new cheesesteak sandwiches were spot on! I got the Cali Cheesesteak and the fresh avocado made it! I did cut the honey mustard dressing though as I thought it sounded too sweet. This time pulled pork sandwich was warm and pork actually tasted not that bad. Mac and cheese was a little over spiced for me, but it was still really good. So I was satisfied with my food. We had a great time! We were a party of 10 and our server Jamie did a great job. The place was noisy but our group just made it more noisy. We came to celebrate my son's 40th birthday. I was delighted that they had sourdough rolls because of some wheat issues I have, but I am able to eat sourdough without a reaction. I had the Philly Cheesesteak with a substitution of Swiss cheese rather than Texas queso, and sweet potato fries. Both were delicious! The price was great and the portion was just right. I also enjoyed a Dublin Root Beer which was very good. The rest of our party enjoyed their food as well. One of my granddaughters gave me a taste of her Mac & Cheese which was as good for an adult palate as it was for her 7 year old palate. The kids enjoyed hamburgers and boneless chicken wings. Two of our picky eaters just gobbled up their food. Guess it helps not to let them snack too much. My youngest grandson likes his food spicy but found the sriracha chicken wings a little on the hot side for him. He was insistent upon ordering all of his chicken wings sriracha but wise daddy convinced him if he got half and half he would at least have some he could eat if he found them too spicy. Well guess what, one bite and he was grabbing for his drink! LOL! But fortunately my daughter suggested he take one bite of the garlic wings and one of the sriracha and that seemed to cool it down for him. This kid is 8 and he's eating stuff I wouldn't even touch into my twenties. But don't try and feed him green veggies, you will get a big icky yuck from him. My youngest granddaughter who barely eats enough to keep a bird alive ate most of her fried cheese which pleased her Mom and of course when she does eat we all cheered. This was the perfect place for our big noisy group. The place was pretty empty for a Saturday night, but then right after Thanksgiving I think many places might have been like that. Where are they eating??? Price is equivalent to any place that's on par with this-or better. We just had app + 2 sandwiches and sides + 3 IPA BEERS + soda for $44. That's value. The service was on point while sitting at the bar. We have noticed that reviews in TX and OK food/bar are BRUTAL. I have never had bad food or service at OIP. We will look forward to seeing them again tomorrow! And next February again after Cross Timbers race. One of our faves in Sherman. Over 20 draft beers with a diverse selection and same with food choices! The only thing I was sad about...asparagus is no longer a side choice but I totally understand! This has to be the best resturant I have had in a while! I was amazed how many amazing dishes they had since their opening when they only had a few items. Of the appetizers, I love the bacon cheese fries. The chips and caso were also amazing. When we got to entrees, it's almost too hard to decide! The monkey balls were good, The bacon cheese curds were a must have, and another great item is the bacon wrapped wings. The service is great too. the 903 beers on Tap as well as Deep Ellum brewery beers, food was great - Started lunch with BUFFALO CHIPS, which is Ground Chicken, blue cheese and herbs rolled up into a ball, breaded and fried. While served with Ranch, the flavor didn't require any dipping sauce for my taste. My entree was, "THE HATCH" Grilled chicken topped with spicy hatch chili sauce. A good piece of chicken the Hatch chilies were a little bland for me but otherwise a tasty dish. I had the 903 IPA - a hoppy IPA - pretty standard as far as IPA's go... the rest of the beers from the 903 certainly have a unique flavor and worth trying but none were really my preferred flavor in a beer. read more

We came in almost a month ago, just after they re-opened the food service. This was our one and only time to visit the Old Iron Post. It was such a major disappointment! I had been so eager to try the newest restaurant, and followed all the articles from the paper to FB. I was thinking the place would be reminiscent of some cool places with local brews around DFW. Wrong. The major dilemma was the food. It was disgusting to put it mildly. We ordered a couple appetizers first, then 15 mins later we ordered the pork sandwich and boneless wings. Everything came out at once. That's the first problem. My honey-sriracha boneless wings were almost dry there was so little sauce. Let me back up, three of the eight appeared to have something glossy on them, but lacked total flavor sans the black pepper in the wings' breading. And the wings were dry on the inside too, as in fresh from the freezer section straight to the oven dryness, not the fryer. Second, caramelized potatoes. What the what?!?! They were so bad my husband discreetly used his napkin to spit out. I have never seen him do that in a restaurant. These are your basic potatoes that were similar to homestyle hashbrowns but then covered in so much table sugar most of it was not caramelized. So very wrong. Third, the reason my husband opted for the potatoes was because he tried to order the mac 'n cheese, but our waitress told us that the cook in the kitchen does a terrible job on the dish and we shouldn't order it till the restaurant fixes the dish. Seriously. The waitress said she felt we had better odds with the sugar potatoes than mac'n cheese. Wow. Fourth and lastly, this place is really no different from all the other bar/grills around, except the food here is horrible. Nothing spectacular on the menu even if they did make it right. From the amount of effort that was put into the remodel, I would have thought a fine dining establishment was about to show up in Texoma, FINALLY. Or maybe a great steakhouse.
