Absolutely unacceptable. I informed the manager (female at the register) and she minimized it and laughed it off. She basically said don't let his behavior bother you. Didn't you enjoy the food? That is not the correct response to give to a customer in this scenario. I regret inviting my friend here for her birthday dinner. I do not recommend this location. Mo Ran Gak has been on my list for a while, and I'm so excited to finally check it off with a few friends. Parking in the plaza is often full, and they have a lot across the street, too. Street parking is also fairly easy since it's residential if you don't mind walking a few minutes. Once there, there's often a short waitlist (~ 15 min). Our party had the Prime Non-Marinated Korean BBQ Combination for four and added a Boneless Short Rib. The first thing I noticed? Definitely the charcoal grill - my favorite! The staff cooked all the meats for us, and each was cooked well. There were a few time where the meats were lightly charred, though that was on us for eating a little too slow. Can't blame us though, we had good chats and shots. The sauces for the meat were all tasty as were the sides, which I devoured multiple rounds of, but if there's one I don't recommend it's the boneless short ribs... why had I not read that it was marinated? Omg I love this place so much I could literally eat here everyday. We got the combo c which feeds 3-4 and it was about $180. Meat is so tender and delicious, and every single side dish is amazing. I was so excited to keep eating the pancake but apparently that is the only side that is not free refill :( The egg is the fluffiest steamed egg I've ever seen and the japchae is addicting. Every time I come here there's always a line out the door so you know it's good. I visit pretty often for their mul naengmyeon and I love that it comes with a smaller portion of bibim naengmyeon on the side. The mul naengmyeon is easily my favorite. The broth is icy, slushy, and packed with flavor, while the noodles have the perfect chewy and bouncy texture. My only complaint is that I wish it came with a little more meat. I've tried cold noodles at a lot of places but this is still my favorite spot for naengmyeon. The side dishes are always delicious too, especially the mung bean pancakes. It's nice going here and seeing people enjoying the food and seeing what items you can order if you have never been here. We've been here four times now, which is probably the best compliment I can give. When Mo Ran Gak is at its best, it's one of my favorite Korean restaurants in Southern California. When it's off, the inconsistency keeps it from being a five star experience. The first visit was outstanding. The galbi was perfectly seasoned, not overly sweet, not overly salty, with great caramelization and tenderness. The naengmyeon was exactly what you hope for. Icy cold with crunchy ice still floating in the broth, crisp vegetables and incredibly refreshing. The second visit was a completely different experience. The galbi was noticeably drier and under seasoned and the naengmyeon arrived only slightly cold. The ice had already melted, which takes away one of the best parts of great naengmyeon. The slices of beef that come with the noodles have also been consistently dry. That may be traditional, but it's never been the highlight of the dish. The service is probably the weakest part of the restaurant. Nobody has ever been outright rude, but it's difficult to get someone's attention and the staff generally feels indifferent. You can tell they're busy, but hospitality often feels like an afterthought. I'd probably rate the service around a 3 out of 5. The restaurant itself is older but clean, with a comfortable atmosphere and moderate noise. Parking can be frustrating and there's usually a wait, but that's expected for a popular spot. One thing I really enjoy is the complimentary crispy pancake they bring out. Honestly, I'd happily eat an entire plate of it. The banchan are solid overall, though fairly average. Despite the inconsistency, I still think this is some of the best naengmyeon and especially bibim naengmyeon you'll find in the Los Angeles area. That's why we keep coming back. When a place always has a 15-20min line outside, you know its good. A classic staple in the community, once you eat here, you are already planning on your next trip back. The beef is wagyu so the quality is great. Your server is also cooking your meat so all you have to do is concentrate on eating. Order the combo, eat all the banchan, and drink all the beer and soju. We ordered the spicy cold noodle with the galbi combo, and they surprisingly brought out a small portion of the non-spicy broth version as well. Both the galbi and both versions of the noodles were incredibly delicious. We also tried the stir-fry intestines--they were cooked perfectly with absolutely no gamey smell. I was introduced to this location by my husband and since the first day I loved this place for authentic Korean BBQ, the sides are infinite when you ask for them. The service is great but you have to wait a little bit to be seated, as long as you sign in when you arrive then you would be fine, but yes expect a wait from 20 to 25 minutes. Since this is a BBQ place you can heard and see a lot of families enjoying their meal, the taste of the food is great!! One of the best places for naengmyeon. We love this spot for their water noodles and for gogi combos. The broth is full, rich, and tangy. If you want you can add more vinegar or mustard for more flavor. This spot has been the go to for many years. We only have discovered it seven years ago. The service is good and they are very friendly. The good part and bonus is if you buy a naengmyeon either water or bibim. You get a tasting of the other, the tasting size which is more than a tasting. So the amount of food you get is substantial. The bbq is good not the best but good for combos. One good thing I found out yesterday is that you can get on the waitlist via Yelp while you are on your way (thank you Yelp!) The food is always worth the wait! They have some of the best Korean bbq, but yesterday we went for the cold noodles (naengmyun). It was SO good! They even give you extra noodles for free, and you can choose whichever cold noodle you would like. We ordered Galbi (Korean bbq) with our noodles, and they were excellent. Service was wonderful yesterday as well. They have a signature Korean pancake that comes with the meals, but since they were so busy ours did not come out in time. Moran Gak is super popular naengmyun place for Korean people, and I can certainly understand why. The portions are generous, the service is fast and efficient, and the food is pretty reliable. We ordered raw beef (yuk- hwe), Korean pancakes and mool-naengmyun. Yuk-hwe was pretty good, no complaints, and the mungbean pancakes were super good. I thought the naengmyun was just alright, which was surprising since that is what they are really known for. There were a lot of people when we came for weekend lunch, and maybe that is why, but I felt like there was a little bit of soapy aftertaste to the naengmyun. Kinda like the bowls weren't fully rinsed? Maybe it was intentional flavor, not sure. Also, they promote it as Pyongyang naengmyun (Morangak is name of a super famous naengmyun place in North Korea, not affiliated with this place), but it really isn't. Pyongyang naengmyun is made with buckwheat noodles and the broth is beef broth based with very mild flavors. The naengmyun here is good, but it is not the Pyongyang style, so I feel like it is a little misleading. Having said that, it is very tasty naengmyun if you're craving flavorful, cold noodles. They also give you a little bit of spicy mixed naengmyun on the side so you can taste both, which is super generous. Would I come back? Definitely, but I was a bit disappointed in what I was expecting and what I got. Overall, super popular place that has been around for a long time and kinda immune to reviews.
