Not that any of us are expecting 5 star service at this business, but the male server in our area on Tuesday, July 21, was disrespectful, belligerent and spoke to us with violence in his eyes and voice. Absolutely unacceptable. I informed the manager (female at the register) and she minimized it and laughed it off. She basically said don't let his behavior bother you. Didn't you enjoy the food? That is not the correct response to give to a customer in this scenario. I regret inviting my friend here for her birthday dinner. I do not recommend this location. If you like their food, visit the other location in Fullerton. Shame on these two. This is not representative of true Korean culture and hospitality.

Go for the KBBQ but make sure to try their cold noodle soup! Came here for dinner with a couple friends. They used to eat cold noodle soup at a restaurant that's gone now so we were craving it. There's a small parking lot and a long line to get in so just be aware of that, but it's well worth the wait. Typical old school KBBQ vibes inside with a ton of staff running around. They were all very friendly and helpful, always on top of things. We got a nice big combo set for the KBBQ portion as well as a couple cold noodle soups. The banchan was very good and fresh, the meat quality is excellent, and the cold noodle soup hit the spot on a hot day. Brisket was melt in your mouth tender and the pork belly was the perfect thickness to get that crispy meaty flavor. Come early to put your name on the waitlist and prepare to wait. You'll be glad you did!

Hands down top 3 kbbqs I've ever had. Worth the wait and hype. They open at 11, we got there at 11:30am. Sat by 12:30pm. People line up before they even open and put their names on the waitlist. We got the prime meat combo for 2 with a small cold noodle. The service was so fast and so helpful. They cook your meat for you and to perfection. I wish I would've gotten better pictures but we just ate so fast because it was that good. The server was so sweet and explained to us how to eat the cold noodle, why it's so popular in Korea, and made us feel taken care of. We were made new regulars to this spot!

Mo Ran Gak has been on my list for a while, and I'm so excited to finally check it off with a few friends. Parking in the plaza is often full, and they have a lot across the street, too. Street parking is also fairly easy since it's residential if you don't mind walking a few minutes. Once there, there's often a short waitlist (~ 15 min). Our party had the Prime Non-Marinated Korean BBQ Combination for four and added a Boneless Short Rib. The first thing I noticed? Definitely the charcoal grill - my favorite! The staff cooked all the meats for us, and each was cooked well. There were a few time where the meats were lightly charred, though that was on us for eating a little too slow. Can't blame us though, we had good chats and shots. The sauces for the meat were all tasty as were the sides, which I devoured multiple rounds of, but if there's one I don't recommend it's the boneless short ribs... why had I not read that it was marinated? The marinate was way too sweet, an I'm sad that this was our last order to come out. It was by far a chore to eat and not the best way to end our evening. I highly recommend the Prime Non-Marinated Korean BBQ Combination, though!

Omg I love this place so much I could literally eat here everyday. We got the combo c which feeds 3-4 and it was about $180. Meat is so tender and delicious, and every single side dish is amazing. I was so excited to keep eating the pancake but apparently that is the only side that is not free refill :( The egg is the fluffiest steamed egg I've ever seen and the japchae is addicting. We also got the beef tartar and cold noodles. The tartar wrapped in perilla leaf has a sharpness to it and the sweet pear(or apple?) helps with the richness of the beef. I could eat the cold noodles forever, so easy to eat and refreshing.

This restaurant is probably my favorite Korean BBQ restaurant in OC! The wait can be very long because it's very popular but it's worth it! The service is exceptional, they cook for you and are very friendly. They will happily refill the banchans! This place is most famous for their cold noodles and it did not disappoint, whenever I crave something refreshing, I always think of the cold noodle here, like after a hard hike! I highly recommend you get both the spicy and the non spicy flavor. They are both so good but hit differently. When we went, we only ordered one, but the restaurant gave us the spicy one for free on the house! The Korean bbq itself and the banchans are also great! Really good quality meats and cooked perfectly by the servers. They do rotate some of their banchans so it might be different everytime you go! Anyway, if you're craving non-ayce Korean bbq and cold noodle, you won't be disappointed!

I had high expectations for this place and it not only didn't disappoint but exceeded my expectations. From the start our server (I sadly forgot his name) was very friendly and asked how we wanted our meats done and if we wanted marinated/non marinated. I love brisket and the brisket here is so good. You can taste the quality. The other meats were great as well and the seafood pancake is one of the best I've had. This place is definitely a must for Korean bbq.

Every time I come here there's always a line out the door so you know it's good. I visit pretty often for their mul naengmyeon and I love that it comes with a smaller portion of bibim naengmyeon on the side. The mul naengmyeon is easily my favorite. The broth is icy, slushy, and packed with flavor, while the noodles have the perfect chewy and bouncy texture. My only complaint is that I wish it came with a little more meat. I've tried cold noodles at a lot of places but this is still my favorite spot for naengmyeon. The side dishes are always delicious too, especially the mung bean pancakes. The service is quick, straightforward, and efficient, even when the restaurant is busy. The ambiance is a bit dated but that's easy to overlook when the food is this good.

Umm so I just found out about this place even though I've been living in Orange County for what seems like forever. LOL. Parking here can get tricky but luckily, there are some residential areas and a lot across the street for the overflow. The place gets pretty crowded but luckily, we got there before the lunch crowd took over. The inside is a bit dated but I didn't mind as long as the food slaps, and it definitely did. My friends and I ordered the prime non marinated kBBQ combo for two people. Even though there were three of us, it was still a good amount of food for us plus we ordered the naengmyun too both the spicy and non-spicy. My favorite is the brisket, that's always been my go to meat. The short ribs were also very tender and delicious. Actually, everything was pretty damn good but the brisket stood out the most for me. They are generous with their banchans and service was excellent. I really prefer having the workers cook the meat for us so that my friends and I can spend time talking instead of cooking.

The service was amazing, our server was so nice i would definitely come back here. the food was so yummy and the vibes there were good!

My all time favorite non ayce kbbq! The customer service is great and they are attentive and they cook so you can enjoy the meal. It's nice going here and seeing people enjoying the food and seeing what items you can order if you have never been here. We always get the non marinated combo which is brisket, boneless short rib, rib eye steak, bone in short rib, steamed egg, tofu soup and banchan. Literally everything is so good and made fresh. Meat had nice marbling and is tender. The cold noodles are also really good and you can do a small portion to enjoy with the meat. I love every banchan that comes out and love all the workers who are so kind and helpful! Can't wait to go back again!

Another good meal here! Came in a Wednesday at 6pm fearing a 1.5hr queue but shocked to have only 4 parties ahead of us. Love it here, especially the COLD NOODLES. Don't pass it up.

Another wonderful dinner at Mo Ran Gak. I must have been here more than 10 times at this point and every time I am impressed. This restaurant delivers delicious meals so consistently. Tonight we just went for our spicy cold noodle fix. But we ended up getting that and the meal set for two (...oops). The perfect amount of bounce and chew in the noodles. The broth always leaving a refreshing clean finish. Their meat quality stays top notch. We went with the brisket and black pork belly (unmarinated) so we can pair the meat with the noodles. Never a bad choice or a bad time here. Until next time!

Mo Ran Gak Restaurant Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Mo Ran Gak Restaurant

This place is marked as having outdoor seating. Is it still available this year?

    Yes

Can you call and make reservations ahead of time?

Only if you have a large party. If I can remember correctly, I think a party larger than 9. Otherwise, they now offer an option where you can request to be on a waiting list via Yelp, if you're about 1-2 miles away from the restaurant. As a note,…

Last time I came they dont have the raw beef (yukhoe)? Do they get rid of it for good or they have it now?

They always had it when I've went. We order it every time we go. Maybe it was just that day they were out...?

Do you still have outdoor dining?

The last time I was there, the outdoor dining was under a tent, adjacent to the parking lot and restaurant building.

Hello do u have all u can eat today and how much per person thank you?

No they do not have an all you can eat. Meats, soups, noodles, etc are ordered off the menu, ala carte.

Do they have a lunch menu or is it the same as the dinner menu?

Are you guys open today 25th? If so are we able to make a reservation?

Yes we are open! I’m sorry we do not take any reservations anymore. We are now doing first come first serve basis. Thank you!

Are they open on Christmas day?

    Yes, only closes every Mondays!

    Do they offer takeout?

    Yes they do!

Do they still have outdoor seating where we can sit with our dog?

    Yes they do

Is it all you can eat?

    No, it's by portion

Are dogs allowed for outdoor dining?

Yes! Pets are welcome for outdoor seating

Can you order the marinated meat combos for takeout raw? I wanted to have bbq night at home but mo ran gak has the best meat!!

Thank you! Yes! You can take any of the combos or a la carte raw! It includes all the sides, rice paper, rice, sauce and salad

Do they still give the sipping broth?

    Yes

Is indoor dining open and are they grilling at the tables yet? Last time I went (last month) we were still sitting under tents and they were just bringing food to the table.

Yes indoor opened and feel safe and yea grill at table!!! Go early and sign up before restaurant opens and limited parking!

I have been trying to call for a week but no-one pick up? Are you guys still in business and open for inside dining?

Yes It is open for inside and outside dining. Are you getting the right number? 714-638-1177 its closed every monday

Are they open for indoor dining?

    Yes

Do you currently take outdoor diners? Need to know if reservations are needed for this Saturday 7 people (4 adults 2 kids 1 baby)

    They don't take reservations.

    Is this place open now?

    Yes it offers outside seating.

How is the dinner wait like for 6 people? What time would you recommend to beat the crowd?

Check in doesn't work. If you get there before 11 you will be seated right away (everyone must be there) but if you get there around noon, waiting can be from 15 minutes or more

The servers are aunties that won't check on you after every bite but will come over the second you raise your hand. I took my mom for lunch and we dug in a little too quick - photos were snapped after we've made a small dent on the food. We got the Seolleongtang and soondae platter which was plenty to share between two people. We ended up taking half of the soondae platter home and enjoying it for breakfast the day after. For those not familiar with Seolleongtang, the soup comes out very basic. You're given a bucket of scallions, a little pot of salt, and shaker of ground pepper to season the broth as you please. I recommend adding a few spoonfuls of the radish kimchi sauce. Speaking of the banchan, Jong Ro prepares some of the freshest and most flavorful banchans on the street. I wish they offered a menu option that was just a bowl of rice and bottomless banchan. The soondae was perfectly springy, paired with a salted shrimp sauce and flavored salt dip. The platter also came with boiled (or steamed?) pork belly, pig ear, and other pork innards that were nicely cooked. I love restaurants like this because they are simply good at what they do. Nothing is over-the-top. There is always a constant stream of customers. The times I've gone have been during your typical slow hours and the place was always 60% full. I imagine the house is full during dinner time or on weekends and rightfully so. Definitely stop by if you're looking for a heartwarming and belly filling comfort meal.

HUGE props to Ian for holding down the FOH fort solo on a slammed Friday night. He handled all the tables and the 8+ groups waiting with such grace and genuine care, showing just the right amount of urgency to indicate the patrons were the priority. He anticipated when the tables might need refills or extra napkins, never flinching when it seemed as though everyone wanted something broiled table side, all while juggling the scorching dishes the kitchen crew cranked out with ease. Ian very easily tipped this review into five star territory with his hard work! We ordered the chicken katsu and the bibimbap for the two of us, but really want to try the short ribs and cheese, and the bibimyun. The crowds were a diverse mix of Korean elders, young college kids, and neighborhood folks - all signs that the food speaks for itself. If you're looking for quality Korean comfort food, a simple menu, and an intimate atmosphere, this is the place for you. Oh, and the banchan choices were great for a kimchi, pickle, mac salad lover like me!

We ordered the chicken katsu curry, beef soup (galbi tang with glass noodles), and dawa chicken. All three dishes were shared family style and we had a good amount of chicken katsu curry to take home as leftovers for my friend's partner to eat for his dinner. Can you believe that a group of seven women only had to pay $71.86 total (including tax and the automatic gratuity for our party size that was 5+ people) for that much food? We each paid $10.27 for our portion and that's highway robbery in this economy. In terms of customer service, I'll say that our server was incredibly friendly when he was present, but he admittedly came by literally only three times during our visit: when we had to dramatically flag him down to order, when he dropped off our food when it was ready, and when we had to flag him down to pay for our check. I'm so glad they had a handheld terminal for us to use for checkout because we might have passed out from heat stroke if we waited any longer, lol. There are always trade-offs in this life, I suppose. We'll be back soon!

I got the combo A which included your choice of tteobeokki along with the tempura set and a drink. This was delicious, I got it with their signature giant tteobeokki. They were massive but super chewy, soft, and went so well with the sauce. The sauce was amazing, it was so decadent, rich and fatty. The tempura also went great with the sauce, both the dumpling and the roll tempura has vermicelli filling which I found interesting and delicious.

When I received my food 45 minutes later, it was the complete wrong order. I received a rose tteokbokki with ssal tteok. I mentioned this to the kind lady behind the counter and she remade my food. However, when I got the freshly made dish, it was still the wrong order. She remade the dish with garaetteok but it was still rose, and not the grandma style. As it was approaching a whole hour since ordering, I just accepted the food, even though I tried to explain to her that what I received was the wrong order. She told me that what I got was the grandma tteokbokki, which the dish was not since it was creamy and had sausage and bacon. I would have asked for another remake, but she had posted a sign that said the restaurant closes at 1:30pm, and it was shortly after that time. I was hoping to have a good time here since the reviews are great, but this experience makes me apprehensive to give the place a try again.

It's your typical mom and pop shop and I'm glad I came. Restroom is clean. It's handicap accessible with the space they provide. As I mentioned before I got the raw marinated crab and it comes in three sizes; small, medium, and large. My group chose a small because we were getting army stew and that's already filling. The raw marinated crab is spicy so it has that kick to it. It was juicy and tasty. The army stew if filled with spam, sausage, and a little bit of instant noodle so it's sodium filled meal. The stew was okay; nothing special except being served by a nice older lady. Soup was delicious though but have to stop myself because of the sodium. You'll be drinking lots of water but that's how it is with raw marinated crabs and army stew.

I still find myself craving Korean food from time to time, so I decided to give this place a try…read more They served six different banchan (Korean side dishes), and the auntie came by to ask if we wanted refills, which was a nice touch. For our main dishes, we ordered: 1. Seafood Pancake (Haemul Pajeon 해물파전) 2. Bossam (Boiled Pork with Napa Wraps 돼지보쌈) 3. Doenjang Jjigae (Soybean Paste Stew 된장찌개) One thing to note is that the table menu doesn't list prices, so you'll need to check the full menu if you want to know the cost. The rice served here is purple rice, which feels like a traditional Korean touch. They usually provide ice water, but if you prefer hot water, just ask the auntie. They also have hot tea available. This restaurant definitely has an authentic Korean vibe. The dining area is not very large, but the atmosphere feels very Korean and the portions are generous. They also offer Korean marinated crab (ganjang gejang), and based on what I saw that day, most of the customers seemed to be Korean locals. Sharing this spot with anyone who loves Korean food and is looking for a more authentic Korean dining experience!

The tangsuyuk here is FOCKEN FIRE The batter is perfectly crispy and cronchy and the meat inside is so juicy and yummy. The sauce is so good, it's tangy, sweet, sour just MUAH! I ate tf out this dish.. we had to order rice bc it was so addicting... I dream about the tangsuyuk bro I usually order the jjamppong but I think the soup lacks some flavor and spice even tho I added a gang load of chili powder. They do pack that bih was hella seafood tho, like plump ass shrimps, squid, octopus and mussels. I think the jajangmyun is bomb!! It's so yummy, the sauce is perfect. I'll be getting this all the time now~ The Kung pao chicken is yummy too. Lots of chicken and I lovelovelove the spiciness in it. The peanuts add the perfect lil cronch as well The service here is great, servers are attentive and very informative when we asked a million questions This place is awesome!! Highly highly recommend for anyone looking for some dank ass Korean Chinese food

My favorite is jajangmyun, the black bean noodles. I love the food, it's a comfort food for me, but I tend to feel a bit of a food coma after a meal here. The criticisms in reviews don't seem fair. Some reviewers write about a rude attitude from employees and a belief that people who speak the Korean language are treated better than those who don't. I've seen people who only speak English and are courteous being treated warmly. Furthermore, the employees here don't miss a beat. The timing of when the entrees arrive to the table after ordering has been consistent over the years. I have not ever waited long for the kimchi, rice, and entrees to arrive, and for our family to be eating. Everything tastes the same as when I first started going decades ago, which is fantastic.
