First time visiting Mo Ran Gak from out of town, and it easily deserves a full 5 stars! We ordered the spicy cold noodle with the galbi combo, and they surprisingly brought out a small portion of the non-spicy broth version as well. Both the galbi and both versions of the noodles were incredibly delicious. We also tried the stir-fry intestines--they were cooked perfectly with absolutely no gamey smell. Mo Ran Gak has been on my list for a while, and I'm so excited to finally check it off with a few friends. Parking in the plaza is often full, and they have a lot across the street, too. Street parking is also fairly easy since it's residential if you don't mind walking a few minutes. Once there, there's often a short waitlist (~ 15 min). Our party had the Prime Non-Marinated Korean BBQ Combination for four and added a Boneless Short Rib. The first thing I noticed? Definitely the charcoal grill - my favorite! The staff cooked all the meats for us, and each was cooked well. There were a few time where the meats were lightly charred, though that was on us for eating a little too slow. Can't blame us though, we had good chats and shots. The sauces for the meat were all tasty as were the sides, which I devoured multiple rounds of, but if there's one I don't recommend it's the boneless short ribs... why had I not read that it was marinated? The marinate was way too sweet, an I'm sad that this was our last order to come out. It was by far a chore to eat and not the best way to end our evening. Omg I love this place so much I could literally eat here everyday. We got the combo c which feeds 3-4 and it was about $180. Meat is so tender and delicious, and every single side dish is amazing. I was so excited to keep eating the pancake but apparently that is the only side that is not free refill :( The egg is the fluffiest steamed egg I've ever seen and the japchae is addicting. It's nice going here and seeing people enjoying the food and seeing what items you can order if you have never been here. Umm so I just found out about this place even though I've been living in Orange County for what seems like forever. LOL. Parking here can get tricky but luckily, there are some residential areas and a lot across the street for the overflow. The place gets pretty crowded but luckily, we got there before the lunch crowd took over. The inside is a bit dated but I didn't mind as long as the food slaps, and it definitely did. My friends and I ordered the prime non marinated kBBQ combo for two people. Even though there were three of us, it was still a good amount of food for us plus we ordered the naengmyun too both the spicy and non-spicy. My favorite is the brisket, that's always been my go to meat. The short ribs were also very tender and delicious. Actually, everything was pretty damn good but the brisket stood out the most for me. I love coming to Mo Ran Gak whenever I come down to SoCal. I heard that they recently opened one in Fullerton, but this location is the one I've grown up with. The quality of the food is great, especially for the price! We ordered Combo B(?), non-marinated beef, beef tartare, and spicy noodles. They probably wanted us out of there though since we felt a bit rushed. Every time I come here there's always a line out the door so you know it's good. I visit pretty often for their mul naengmyeon and I love that it comes with a smaller portion of bibim naengmyeon on the side. The mul naengmyeon is easily my favorite. The broth is icy, slushy, and packed with flavor, while the noodles have the perfect chewy and bouncy texture. My only complaint is that I wish it came with a little more meat. One good thing I found out yesterday is that you can get on the waitlist via Yelp while you are on your way (thank you Yelp!) The food is always worth the wait! They have some of the best Korean bbq, but yesterday we went for the cold noodles (naengmyun). It was SO good! They even give you extra noodles for free, and you can choose whichever cold noodle you would like. We ordered Galbi (Korean bbq) with our noodles, and they were excellent. Service was wonderful yesterday as well. They have a signature Korean pancake that comes with the meals, but since they were so busy ours did not come out in time. The indoor waiting area serves complimentary hot black bean drinks--don't skip this while you wait. Moran Gak is super popular naengmyun place for Korean people, and I can certainly understand why. The portions are generous, the service is fast and efficient, and the food is pretty reliable. We ordered raw beef (yuk- hwe), Korean pancakes and mool-naengmyun. Yuk-hwe was pretty good, no complaints, and the mungbean pancakes were super good. I thought the naengmyun was just alright, which was surprising since that is what they are really known for. There were a lot of people when we came for weekend lunch, and maybe that is why, but I felt like there was a little bit of soapy aftertaste to the naengmyun. Kinda like the bowls weren't fully rinsed? Maybe it was intentional flavor, not sure. Also, they promote it as Pyongyang naengmyun (Morangak is name of a super famous naengmyun place in North Korea, not affiliated with this place), but it really isn't. Pyongyang naengmyun is made with buckwheat noodles and the broth is beef broth based with very mild flavors. The naengmyun here is good, but it is not the Pyongyang style, so I feel like it is a little misleading. Having said that, it is very tasty naengmyun if you're craving flavorful, cold noodles. They also give you a little bit of spicy mixed naengmyun on the side so you can taste both, which is super generous. Would I come back? As a Bay Area resident, Mo Ran Gak is one of the places my girlfriend and I have to visit whenever we're down here in Socal. The food is always good, and the service is top tier. The servers are usually older Korean women and they all treat you like their own. Its always wonderful and sweet whenever we eat here. They serve a variety of korean dishes here including Kbbq but definitely make an effort to try their naengmyeon (cold noodles). Depending on what you get the Mul Naengmyeon is reminiscent of the North Korean style which is more plain, more deep and a more humble dish. You can add mustard or vinegar to your liking to make it more flavorful but with all the galbi we ordered, I thought it was just perfect right out the kitchen. Now if you're looking for something more flavorful the Bibim Naengmyeon is maybe more your choice. It has gochuchang (fermented chili paste) in it and adds a moderately spicy twist to the original. If a full order is too much for you they do offer half orders as well so you can purchase it to try before fully committing. I highly recommend Mo Ran Gak, its clean, its consistent, and the service reminds you of eating at a friend's home. read more

Since we have a big group, we make sure we are there early, at least 30 minutes before they open. Everything we have had has been delicious but we have noticed that the portion sizes have gotten smaller, especially the noodles. We usually get the bulgogi, a fish dish, the bi bim bop and the buckwheat noodle dish. The staff seem fairly nice but not as attentive as we were hoping. The best Korean restaurant in garden grove and definitely imo one of the best in LA. The food here is good as you can tell by all the Koreans who are regulars and the wait times they have. My uncle used to take me here quite a bit when I was a child, but I haven't been back in about a decade. So when I heard that Mo Ran Gak made the top 6 on Yelp OC's top places to eat for 2025, I was a bit surprised since my memory of this place was relatively lukewarm. I decided to revisit to see what all the hoopla was about. We came on a Sunday night around 7pm and there was almost no wait - which was unexpected because I remembered it being longer in my childhood. As we were shown to our seats, I snagged a nice hot cup of black sesame liquid from the machine at the front of the store. It was warm and comforting on a cold rainy day - just like how I remembered it. Food is served a la carte here with different tiers of dinner combos available as well. The staff grill the meat for you. Our server was very helpful in guiding us through the menu. We opted for the non-marinated premium combo. We also got the naengmyeon combo and an order of beef tongue a la carte. Our combos came with banchan, which our server generously offered to refill. A standout for me was the jeon. Even if you hadn't told me it was made to order, the freshness and crispiness of the shell would've given it away. The insides were still piping hot and the accompanying sauce was delicious. Then came the meat. We started with brisket. Since we opted for the premium combo, I was hoping that the meat would be better than what I remembered. However, I thought the brisket was ordinary and, if anything, a little dry. The beef tongue, however, was delicious. It was cooked perfectly. The texture was not rubbery at all and had a springy bite to it. And it was so juicy. Paired with kimchi and the sweet soy, it was heavenly. Compared to the beef tongue, everything that came in the premium non-marinated meat combo felt lackluster. I was disappointed especially because these items were labeled as premium, and I didn't think they were worth the higher price point. Even the beef tongue was quite expensive - being $37.95 for one order (though if you go, I do think the beef tongue is worth it). I will give Mo Ran Gak credit for their cold noodles, which are as delicious as I remember. The naengmyeon combo comes with both the "spicy" (not really) bibim naengmeyon and a smaller portion of the Pyeongyang mul naengmyeon. The bibim naengmeyon was full of vibrant flavor and a cool refreshingness that's perfect on hot summer nights (not this night though, because of the rain. The noodles were delicious, regardless). Funny enough, I saw that I'd left a Yelp review here 3 years ago in 2022. As I read back what I wrote, I nodded to myself and said, "Mmm. Yes, I still think the same thing." There's highlights such as the beef tongue and the naengmyeon, but overall I think this place is ok and perhaps not the best value for the money spent. Got here at 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon to put my name down for a party of 11. It was a 20 mins wait which was absolutely worth it! We got two orders of the Pyeongyang Mul Naengmyeon (Cold buckwheat noodles in beef broth). They brought out vinegar and a Chinese mustard to add to the broth. We just added vinegar and it was SOOO good!!!!! We also got a 4-person and 2-person Marinated combination. The meats were SO good! The best part was the amazing staff cooked the meat for you!!!! Absolutely love that!!!! Each combination comes with a steamed egg, eh! Not a big fan of their steamed egg. I've tasted better steamed eggs at other places. The banchans were also so tasty! That marinated potato was super good! The kim chee was really tasty too! All-in-all, we had a great experience! Service was great! Food was delicious and our bellies were full!!!
