This is one of my favorite pizza places EVER. Their mushroom pizza is TO. DIE. FOR. But all of them are awesome. So much flavor. So well done. Only downside is that the pizzas aren't huge, and I always want more. Honestly, I wish I had a never-ending supply. The pizza is so amazing my husband and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner here. Ok day two... I'm conducting an experiment on hunger and how food taste. Yesterday I tried OSP for the first time. It was the best pizza I had in some time and I chalked it up to not eating all day. That had to be it! Why else would the slightly charred crust and simple ingredients taste so good. Forget about the easy ordering app and what seems to be the overflowing parking lot! So today I thought I would test it again. I mean I just tried it yesterday so mentally I knew it was good but there would not be any surprises this time. Wednesday was even more popular than Tuesday. He Said: On a long road trip and Dayton seemed a good halfway place to stop for lunch. Pizza and craft beers, you say? Ok! We were pretty hungry and in an unusual move for us we ordered an appetizer. The stracciatella was our pick. Despite it not coming with the hot honey as indicated on the menu, and then the food-delivery person telling us it wasn't supposed to come with it but she'd get some "anyway," it was quite good. Being able to mix up the various flavors in different ways with each bite was great. We ordered a neapolitan pizza as our main and were quite happy with it. To our preferences it could have used more basil, but we had some spare from the app and added it on our own. The beer menu was awesome. A healthy mix of ultra locals, semi locals, and national brands. There were, unfortunately, some knocks: 1) there was one guy slinging beers (and taking food orders for the folks like us sitting at the bar) and getting his attention was a little tricky; 2) they didn't seem to get NBC (regular NBC, a local channel, not a specialty channel) and we were hoping to watch some sports; 3) the chain in the toilet was broken so I had to reach in to the tank and manually flush the toilet (or leave my....umm...droppings in the bowl for the dad and daughter who were waiting to use the stall). I let the bar guy know that one, since it seemed important. Overall, we will be back the next time we pass through. No doubt. She Said: He covered everything pretty well. We sat at the bar rather than waiting in line as we first came in the door to place our food order per the recommendation of a previous reviewer, and that would have been a really good idea if we'd known right away what we wanted to eat. As He noted, our delay in ordering food meant that we had to wait a while for the only guy tending bar to take others' drink orders. I'm not sure if that's the usual system though, so it's possible that they were understaffed that day. I'd also like to reinforce that the hot honey is really really good. I was surprised by how much I like it, and I'm happy we asked our server to bring it rather than just blowing off the lack of it on the stracciatella. I'll be looking for reasons to use my own version of hot honey in the future. Potty Points: 5 out of 5 potty points. I think I was the first woman to use the bathroom that day, so it's no surprise that it was clean with plenty of stalls. I also didn't have the trouble he did with the tank chain. read more

This is absolutely our go to pizza place in the Dayton area! Wood fired pizza, great selection of specialty toppings, usually fast and always friendly. My favorites are the Angry Beekeeper and the prosciutto and arugula pizzas. We also usually get one of their salads and the roasted olives. I love their veg specials and they have a pizza special as well. Both are always unique. They also have 20 different craft beers (mostly local) on tap. When you get there, you order and then sit down with a number. They will bring out your items to enjoy! If there isn't a wait, you can grab a seat wherever, if it is super busy, they will seat you, but it is usually not long of a wait! They have a nice patio when the weather is warm as well! read more

This is not the place to go to if your looking for chemically tasting chain style cheap pizza. This is Neapolitan style crust which is somewhat thin, and fast bake in a large wood fired oven. The crust is a combination of crunchy on the bottom, and softer inside. There are their own specialty pizza on the menu, or you can build your own. There is a lot of craft beer on tap and range in price from 5 to 9 dollars. Men's restroom is somewhat touch-less. My son and I decided to try something a little new and this place did not disappoint! I ordered the Shroom and Kids pizza/drink. On a scale from 1-10, he gave his pizza a 7 and mine was 8.5. You have to keep in mind I am a foodie so 8.5 is very good considering I lived on the East Coast for several years. The staff was very nice and friendly. Up to this point, the search for truly good pizza in the Dayton metro area had been a veritable quest for the Holy Grail. Far too many of the local pizza options ranged from standard, uninspired chain offerings all the way to the simply inedible which cast serious doubt on the old adage about "pizza being like sex". The wife and I were out running errands on a Saturday afternoon and decided to try Old Scratch Pizza for lunch. It had popped up on my radar based on a friend's recommendation that they served up a legit pie. We arrived a little after noon. The place had a good crowd with several large parties, but finding a table even out on the patio on a sunny, warm, but comfortable day wasn't a problem. We ordered the Angry Beekeeper ($12), a seeming favorite based on multiple Yelp reviews, and an order of the Elote ($7), a Mexican-style corn on the cob, which was a special item that day. In truth, the Whole Roasted Cauliflower cooked in their 800-degree wood-fired ovens looked amazing, too, but we decided to hold off and save it for our next visit. I washed down my food with a Jackie O's O.P.A. (Ohio Pale Ale). The Angry Beekeeper was a 12 in. pie topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, basil, a spicy salami, and drizzled with honey and olive oil. The star of the show was the crust, which was flavorful with the right balance of char and chew. Each slice possessed a wonderful contrast of salty and sweet. It was a winner. The elote was a winner in my book, too. I love corn on the cob and the roasted corn was spicy, sweet, salty and all-around delicious. My beer was beer, albeit a very tasty one. I like Jackie O's beers and this was no exception. It was a great pairing with my pizza and corn. Old Scratch Pizza easily became my favorite pizza place in the local area.
