We come to Dayton quite often to see family and I had never heard of this establishment. My sister had been here and suggested we try it for dinner. It turned out to be a great place for pizza and more. The seating is somewhat reminiscent of a German beer hall with long semi - communal tables. Orders are taken from the counter first before patrons sit down. But the food is brought to you and there are servers around at all times in case you need anything. I found the service to actually be pretty solid. There is also somebody who inquires as to the number in your party when you are in line to order. They reserve a spot for you ahead of your order that is adequate for your needs, which keeps the seating situation from becoming a free-for-all. We had the Shroom pizza, which tasted quite good to me in spite of the fact that white pizzas are not my favorite type. The highlights, however, were the non-pizza dishes, which included stracciatella and the veg special. The former was warm bread with a hot honey sauce, balsamic - soaked tomatoes, pistachios and basil for toppings. It was excellent. The veg special was brussel sprouts baked with tahini sauce, pomegranates and hazelnuts. It was very unique and very tasty. The prices were also rather agreeable. For four people, we got by with the three food items listed and one drink (plus three waters). With tax and a tip, our total was $40. I will certainly not complain about $10 per person. Place is pretty chaotic on a Saturday night. Tried to get seats at the bar but some people were saving seats so went back in line to wait for seats. Thought we were getting seated then got moved again, was frustrating but we finally got seated. Went back up to order drinks. Mule was good but margarita tasted off. We ordered two dairy free pizzas. They brought one out. I had a bite and was almost positive it was dairy cheese so only ate the one piece. We waited a half hour and here the server comes with two pizzas. The first one wasn't ours and was definitely dairy cheese once we compared how it looked to the dairy free pizzas. The server apologized and brought its a $15 gift card. It was nice that they recognized the mistake and made it right. Serving someone dairy who doesn't eat it can be a big issue. We really like the pizza here, can't beat the wood fire crust. We've stopped at other old scratch pizzas and it's always the same chaotic experience. read more

I come here more than I should admit but I love their pizza!! The salads are even better!! I also really like that they do something different every once in a while so you get a fresh perspective. This time it was olives. So simple, they were great! I like to sit at the bar when we don't have the kiddos so we get a little more time together without having to self serve. What a great surprise to find a wood fired pizza place in Dayton. Stop check out the pizza and stay for the local beer selection with a few Nati brewes mixed in. Based on my girls review one of the best salads she ever had. The pepperoni pizza was very good not as good as Joe's pizza Napoli in Milford Ohio. But a very close second. The honey pizza was also very good but another close second to Camporsso in North Kentucky. But when in Dayton I will make this a pizza stop. 4 stars for the beer menu, 3.5 for the pizza. The beer list was impressive with lots of things on tap that they don't have at other places. We tried a couple of small pizzas, a basic margherita and a special pie with hot honey. Both were very good (I mean it's pizza), but crust was a bit dry. I'd go back because I liked the vibe and the beer selection, but I've had better wood fired pizza. That said I didn't need it to the best pizza I've ever had, so no complaints. read more

Pizza: they have the crust figured out. It's artisan pizza crust at a high level of perfection! Arugula and prosciutto pizza: lots of arugula but minimal prosciutto. Yummy in spite of that. Special asparagus and goat cheese. Great goat cheese but not a lot of it. Minimal asparagus. (Some slices had 1 little piece) Egg in the middle is a really nice touch. Beer selection is excellent. Picnic table seating is not made for comfort. The pizzas are very good but for the price we paid the toppings should not be minimal. Given all that, I'd go back any day! It's one of the better pizzas in the Dayton area. Easily in the top 5! read more

I ordered my pizza and got my soda and waited for my food, I saw people who came after me getting what they ordered and wondered why pizza was taking so long. Finally it came out and I wasn't given any plates or silverware and so I asked for it and the person brought it out to me. I tried to grab a slice and it wasn't even cut so I asked the staff member if they could cut it better and they did. I finally took my first bite and it was cold. We ordered the Angry Beekeeper and the Brooklyn with a side of ranch and garlic sauce. I felt the hot honey in the Beekeeper added a unique and subtle sweetness, but it wasn't something that I particularly cared for. I liked the Brooklyn much better. It was savory and meaty. Their garlic sauce was more of a garlic clarified butter, which I was not expecting. The place was pretty spacious and cool. It was community style bench seating and they have a patio if you choose to sit outside. According to their website, they are currently offering curbside pick-up! I placed an order online, and was told 30 minutes. It took them longer than that to get the order out to me, but that was PROBABLY because they were very busy. I get that, and don't fault them, ESPECIALLY on a Saturday afternoon with GORGEOUS weather. I got their Dayton Pizza (pepperoni pizza), Roasted Cauliflower (didn't have the Romesco Sauce), and their Hummus with pita bread (with cucumber and tomatoes on top). Their pizza had pepperoni that had a littel spice to it, which I liked. The crust was thin and the sauce not overly "juicy". I enjoyed the pizza very much. I REALLY loved the cauliflower. I shared it with my dog, who enjoyed it immensly too. I could have easily eaten a couple of them. But I try to limit myself. LOL. I had the hummus and pita when I got home. The hummus was creamier than I expected, but thick enough to stay on the pita bread that I dipped into it. read more

We are "out of town" folks who have now dined at Old Scratch on three occasions. Most recently, we took the long way home after a Bengals game and visited the S Patterson Blvd location. Quick and friendly service, even when crowded, and the pizza was an absolute A+. We have now had the Angry Beekeeper, Margherita and a build your own with Pep, Sausage and roasted garlic. They're all great but my son and I enjoy the Angry Beekeeper the most. It has just the right amount of spice with the hot honey and spicy salami.
