The pizza here didn't really live up to the hype I've been hearing all around Dayton. My pizza looked good, but it was soggy towards the middle, so I basically had to kind of roll it up and eat it with the crust, which was a little burnt itself. If I picked up a slice, all the toppings and cheese would slide off and the pizza itself would droop. The ambiance is nice and I can see how it can be a chill place to go with friends. It's also cool that you can see the workers making your pizza in the oven, but I've been here TWICE already and both times my pizza has come out soggy/droopy in the middle. Maybe there's something wrong with the oven that doesn't allow the pizza to be cooked completely or properly? Not sure, but that would be my only complaint. The salads look amazing. read more

Another wonderful meal at Old Scratch. I haven't been in years (and now I can't imagine why I haven't been back more frequently) but decided to try a different place with the whole family. We used the curbside pick up and it was wonderful. Everyone was friendly and the food came out promptly but maybe a bit late (but they were busy so I wouldn't hold that against them). Our food was hot and delicious and honestly that's all that matters. This was a first time with all of the food in the pictures. The meatballs and bread were great. Just in case you were wondering it comes with 4 pieces of bread with the meatballs. The garlic butter was also very tasty. Fresh, fast and fun! This is our favorite pizza place in Dayton. Fresh, reasonably priced salads and pizzas. Self serve sodas, opening seating, no frills. The wood-fired pizzas are customizable or choose from one of their delicious concoctions (Angry Beekeeper is a favorite with spicy honey drizzled over fresh mozzarella, basil and salami). We usually order a couple pizzas to share and a half salad to start. The salads are unique and fresh and a $6 half salad is enough for two. This is our 2nd time ordering carry out from here. Im not really happy. The online ordering is convenient and easy. The promise time is sent in an email. Well that didn't happen, not even close. My husband waited and waited, finally after the girl went back the 3rd time, someone pointed to the other side of the ovens. The stuff was sitting there. Not surprised, food was cold! Come on guys, isn't there a system in place yet? If it was terrible, I would of given less stars. But the pizza tastes good. Meatball appetizer wasn't bad, room temperature, but not bad. Crazy delish pies served up in a neo modern industrial setting with picnic table seating! Geeze, from what I've seen of the Dayton, OH food scene I'd say y'all are truly blessed to have Old Scratch. As good as any upscale wood fired offerings in Dallas (Pie Tap, Kenny's, etc.) or NYC, Old Scratch delivers in spades. Fresh, high-quality ingredients coupled with a friendly and chill atmosphere makes for a great, classic Yelp dining experience. Yes, wood fired pizza can and does often have soft crust areas and yes, the crust is burned a tad (intentionally, due to the authentic Italian technique of cooking pies quickly at high heat) but that's what makes wood fired pies so savory and delish. And, if your sauce or cheese slides a bit off the slice it's because the ingredients are super fresh and not overcooked - it's normal and exactly how wood fired pizza is supposed to be made and served. This place is absolutely amazing. My wife and I came in here for a late night bite and we were very pleased! We tried the Angry Beekeeper and the Dayton with bacon. The pizzas are made in HUGE pizza ovens and cooked to perfection. The Angry Beekeeper manages to be both sweet and hot at the same time, but not overwhelmingly so. The Dayton is loaded with pepperoni and the bacon is a decent addition for anyone who can never get enough cured pork in their life. Visiting an new area and exploring local favorites. Tonight I had a taste for pizza and found Old Scratch in downtown Dayton. They seemed to have good reviews and looked worth to giving them a try. It pays to circle the block first because I saw they had a small parking lot adjacent to the building but then saw they have an overflow lot across the street making parking a breeze. Ordering is at a counter and the menu is not extensive. I ordered the Applewood Bacon Ranch half size salad and the Old Scratch pizza. The salad was great. The half size was huge and could have been a meal in itself. It had a generous portion of toppings and they were not skimpy on the bacon. The pizza was thin crust about 11 inches round. With sausage and veggies. Half a pizza and half a salad was enough to fill me up. I also enjoyed their nice selection of craft beers. I will have to come back because I saw an appetizers which looked interesting. A roasted head of cauliflower with veggies. I thought it looked great, but I will need help or a hearty appetite because it was also huge. Overall, a great evening experience. read more

Wow!!! My sister has talked about this place and has said wonderful things about so we decided to try it and it met my every expectation. The Applewood Bacon Ranch Salad was amazing and I ordered a pizza with it. I could of just ate the salad because it tasted soooo good. The pizza was delicious too but they were very generous on their salad portion and it tasted so good that I couldn't stop eating it until it was gone. I will definitely be back. Nice size crowd but they do a great job of getting everyone through the line and have plenty of space for everyone. You gotta get the salad!!!! read more

We went here for the first time with a group of about 12 on Thanksgiving Eve. The set up was great for a group our size where everyone could order food and drinks at their own pace, on their own tabs. The pizzas were tasty & a reasonable size for the price. This is a GREAT pizza location. Not your average place. Absolutely delicious wood fired pizzas with that perfect yummy crust. Salads are huge so split a small one. Every employee, from the folks that take your food order when you come in, to the bartenders, to the servers, to the chefs making your pizza---are happy, smiling, and willing to meet or exceed your expectations.
