Traveled to Dayton for work and was looking for a lunch place. Stumbled across this place. Pretty cool ambiance, you walk in and order your food and then there are a bunch of picnic tables that you can sit at. They have a separate place to order adult beverages and the choices are vast. We got the old scratchy pizza and some kind of bumble bee pizza. Both were delicious but the bumblebee pizza was the best! If I come back to Dayton I will return. read more

Best Neapolitan style pizza in town. Quality ingredients and the staff is friendly and efficient. They have one of the best tap lists in the area, always something on there I want to try. My husband and I loved this place!! We split the Mr. Scratch and the Prosciutto Arugula pizzas and they were delicious. The dough had a bit of crisp but was also tender - very good. Fresh ingredients and a healthy selection of beer. Atmosphere was very enjoyable, great place for a date night, whole family, or group of friends and the service was extremely kind. As people who went to Antico in Atlanta on our first date, finally having an Italian style (aka GOOD) pizza place in Dayton was a super exciting change. Old Scratch is slightly less generous with their toppings than Antico (seriously, please, three times as much basil as you currently use is my bare minimum!), but they make up for it with a friendlier (less "eating in a tin can") atmosphere, a zillion beers, and online ordering. Because we like the classics, my favorite is the blanco and my husband's is the margherita (my son's is anything he recognizes as looking like "normal pizza" i.e. sausage or pepperoni, but he's two, so I forgive him). The line is always long in the evenings, so we either plan ahead for an early dinner or go at lunch. Always get the pizza special! The specials are always an experience, and, while sometimes they are confusing or "just okay", they're usually excellent, and we've literally never had a bad one! read more

I was more impressed with the beer selection than the pizza. I love a wood-fired pizza, but the sauce was bland and insipid and the seating is all communal. I liked the crust, but I felt like the pizza as a whole was just okay. The beer selection is fantastic though. read more

Pizza seemed a tad bland to me for the price. It was good, but I've had much better. And personally, I think it's silly to have to pay extra for garlic (and pretty expensive for adding other seasonings like oregano). Anything Italian or Italian-like STARTS with garlic (and oregano for that matter), except for desserts. read more

I haven't had Neapolitan pizza like this since I was in NYC. I couldn't be happier that this place opened here. The pizza by far is the best in the city. The crust was airy and chewy with little bits of char that marry well with the sweetness of the fresh tomato sauce and creamy mozzarella. I had the Margherita which was finished with fresh basil and olive oil. Do yourself a favor and go try this pizza. It is a true Dayton gem. read more

Pick up my pizza and when I got home found out dough was only half baked. I had to put it in my oven to finished cooking it. For $15 I should get a cooked pizza. Will not make that mistake again. read more

When this place opened everyone raved about it so we had to try this place. The craft beer selection is good for only having 18 handles (I think). We ordered a cheese pizza which took almost an hour to get. The pizza sauce didn't taste like it had any seasoning at all. It was pretty much just tomato sauce from a can and the cheese tasted highly processed. Perhaps a bad night for them, not sure. read more

The wait staff does not know how to manage a crowd. We were next in line to order, at which point the cashier abruptly left. We then waited at least 10 minutes, during which three separate servers walked by, looked at the line accumulating, and continued on without saying a word to anyone in line or acknowledging them. I decided to try this place out since so many of my friends love it. After trying, i really don't understand what is so great about it. It's another craft beer/craft pizza joint and honestly the pizza is probably close to the worst craft pizza in the dayton area. Paper plates, picnic tables, coke machine (yes, you serve yourself) etc. at a price that one would pay at finer restaurant and they expect to be paid a tip.l?!? We were told this place was great. I was super disappointed. The pizza was ok but definitely not great. I would say it was slightly below average. I will definitely give it another try because the service was solid and the atmosphere was on point. The burrata-type appetizer, the stracciatella, also just did not have enough flavor (needed some sea salt or something) and was presented/displayed in a way that was more cutesy than actually utilitarian and purposeful for eating. A good presentation of food is awesome, but if it is difficult to put it all together to enjoy it, then it defeats the purpose.
