I should've high-tailed it out of there but I figured what the hell. After I ordered my meal, I was sitting in the table and out of the corner of my eye, something caught my attention. A COCKROACH crawled out from under the table top, walked across the table and went back under the table top. That was enough for me to cancel my order and hit the road. Honestly, I've eaten at 5 star and 5 diamond restaurants and this place is on the same level. No matter where I go, I cannot find a steak better than their Siam Steak. It's always perfect and the wait staff are always super nice and attentive. The only problem is that it is undermanned and is easily overlooked because the place looks like it need to renovated on the outside. However, don't overlook this restaurant, it is litterally the only ray of sunshine in Jville. They used to give you warm towels to wipe your hands with while you were waiting on your food, but they stopped that. I wonder why because I thought that was awesome. A nice spot in Jacksonville that's not a chain and offers something different in terms of cuisine. They're also a Thai restaurant offering more then just Pad Thai and disguised Chinese dishes. It's a pretty intimate setting, very little noise outside of the conversation of diners. Each table has a red button to press if you need service but my waitress was very attentive the entire time. I started with a vegetable soup. I opted to get the large, figuring it was a bowl, but it came in a large flame-heated heated vat. Lucky I showed up hungry, normally it's a bit too much for an appetizer, so get the small instead. I ordered the chicken red curry as my main entree. It comes with a cup of white rice. The curry was delicious with a little spice. It was loaded with bamboo shoots. I would have liked a bit more chicken if possible, but still great. I'm not the best source of knowledge on Thai food, but everything I had was pretty darn good, especially for this area. They've also got a vegetarian menu as well if you're into that. read more

Being completely honest with this review. The weekend before I can here I went to Noodles Co for some Pad Thai. And I had never had worse so I went to search for some good local Thai food. I came across this place and I wasn't going to be satisfied until I had my pad Thai fix. The outside looks old and the inside is just as old but I'm not going to a restaurant for the looks, im going for the food. I ordered soup, salad and shrimp pad Thai. And everything was 11/10. I had my fix and this place is now one of my favorites in this city. I recommend this restaurant to everyone and if you haven't tried it yet just because it's looks to give it a chance. I have heard nothing but great reviews from this place, so I decided to try it. Well, the hubs was gone for the weekend, so I went out with a friend and her son. We walked in and we thought the place looked beautiful. It's got a nice decor, and the tables are pretty spread out, giving the place a very romantic look. They were very accommodating to her small child, and they even brought him out some crackers and pineapple pieces to keep him occupied while we looked over the menu. The The service is so-so (our waitress forgot about us, she thought she already took our order, and I eventually had to find her to get out order taken). With a small kid, it's hard to wait long, so we wound up getting everything to-go. I got the beef fried rice, and my friend got the crabmeat fried rice. We both shared the fried tofu, and the spring rolls. Everything was really good! The sauces looked like they were homemade rather than packaged junk. Everything was seasoned great and we devoured it. Yes, it is a bit more expensive than most places around here, but it tastes a lot better. You definitely get what you pay for. read more

I like the wait staff here, do not care for the management. I purposely come here for lunch because although I like their food, I think their dinner prices are too high. So my own fault for trying to order lunch on a Sunday and not realizing they only serve dinner on Sunday. So I thought I was ordering about $20 worth of food, and it came out to almost $30. Strike one. I brought the food home to eat, and discovered the bottom dish was not sealed properly so my passenger seat is covered in sauce. Strike two. I cleaned up the mess and went to try my tofu ginger dish. I believe it's the bean curd that was burned to a crisp, making the whole dish taste burned. Thanks guys. Probably won't go back. Old Siam is the best Thai restaurant in town, OK it's the only Thai restaurant in town. There's not much competition in Jacksonville apart from Wasabi, a sushi place with a Thai menu as well. Service at Old Siam is nice and the food is averagely good. I'm just happy they're here at all. Pad Thai is on the sweet side, Green Papaya Salad comes with lettuce (weird), but they don't give lettuce with their spring rolls =(. That said they're a clean place have Thai noodles, curries, fried rice and some fancier seafood they had a special on frog legs too. read more

This is my husband's favorite restaurant. He wants to come here for our anniversary, his birthday, for any reason he can think of he wants this place. I like the food. The feeling in the dining section is a too golden girls for me, I feel like I'm eating out with my grandparents at a fancy place they like. It also smells like my granparents basement, that musky moldy smell. Aside from that, the food is amazing. I always order the garlic frog legs because hardly anyone else in town sells or serves frog legs. My husband always gets a curry, this last time he got the Panang Curry. He loves it. Classy, Thai restaurant in the backwater town of Jacksonville. Exceptionally clean dining area with wonderful table settings. I believe the place actually has a Thai chef, not a bunch a guys deep frying your order into oblivion. Ordered the app chicken satay, a Thai classic, it fit the bill. Gave me a cool little hand size grill to put my own finishing touches on it (they do all the cooking in the back, but handed me this lantern looking thing). I thought it was kind of fun. Main entree was great. Great seafood with a nice spicy Thai kick. I haven't tried the other Thai place in Jville, but this one is really good. You will like it, highly recommended. I really wanted to like this place. I have been looking for a location with flat rice noodles everywhere in Jacksonville. I am not a food snob whatsoever, I have ate at numerous thai places across the US. This place seems like it just completely lost it's touch from what they used to be. I ordered a flat rice noodle dish with beef and broccoli in "black bean sauce" and fried tofu as well. I also ordered thai tea as well. The menu might need a downsize that could help it focus on some of their good dishes or fan favorites. The fried tofu I believe was stale and chewy, the "peanut sauce" was actually sweet chili sauce with a few peanuts chopped in. It was the better part of my meal. The flat rice noodle dish had old broccoli, unmarinated beef, and stale flat rice noodles that were either old, or undercooked, or something. It wasn't even chewable or breakable. The rice noodles came in chunks stuck together! It was really hard to even take down two or three bites. I ordered take out and they took 10 minutes to make and prep this. It just all seemed like old food.. or leftovers from the other night. The amount of sauce and salt was not black bean sauce or anything like that. Anyways, maybe their dinner hours are better, but I can't see myself eating here ever again. **I came from he bay area in california. Honestly, they didn't have great thai food either.. The best thai food I've ever tried was in Sacramento, Ca in the little saigon area over by stockton blvd. That is where amazing thai food truly is. The first time my boyfriend and I ordered out from here, the meal was fantastic. I forget what he got, but I had the seafood red curry and then we split a chicken curry soup of sorts. All of it was fantastic. However, the second time we ordered there, I got the duck red curry and I didn't finish it. The duck was grisly, but it seemed like it was breaded and fried, then dumped in the curry, so it was soggy and doughy and strange. The third time, I ordered the seafood red curry again because it was so great the first time, but when I got home, it was the beef red curry (I think...). I tried it, but it smelled like a cat's litter box and tasted just as bad. Unfortunately, with 2 of 3 experiences being bad, I won't be going back. The price just isn't worth it. read more

Really excellent service and food. We ordered the Noodle of the Drunk and a tofu panang curry. Both were very flavorful, and the food was delivered within five minutes. We also ordered a Thai iced tea, which was delightfully strong. The building was much larger than we had expected from the outside. Inside was very quiet. I wonder if they get enough business. The fake flowers on the table were a bit dusty, but it didn't really bother us. All in all, we really enjoyed our visit to Old Siam, and we will definitely return again soon. read more

Delish! Wonderful, attentive service and great food.. They leave a beeper at the table to buzz your waiter so you don't get bothered unnecessarily which is nice. It is a little pricy for a Jacksonville restaurant but I'd say it's worth it. I always order their Spring Rolls appetizer, they are so flavorful. The Pad Thai is very good and the serving is huge. Salad was not spicy at all. So we complain to waitress, but she just bring us a bottle of chili powder. That was such a big disappointment. Most of the salad was only lettuce and they charged $9. I recently moved to town from the west coast and was very excited when I found this diamond in the ruff. Old Siam is a quiet romantic little thai place on highway 17 that is the best south East Asian food I have found in the Camp Lejeune area. The menu is extensive with a wide variety of dishes to satisfy everyone. There is even a large vegetarian and gluten free menu. For folks new to Thai with no idea what to order, here are a few of the best dishes I've found: Panang Curry- this is my all time favorite thai dish. Panang curry is a hearty peanut curry that has a smokey flavor that is layered with distinctive kafir lime leaves. It is good with any meat and spicyness can be adjusted for light weights. For those who can handle it, this curry is much better at "thai hot" to add more character to a relatively creamy dish. Basil anything- thai basil is a little more tangy than the Italian variety an is super addicting. Cooks fry the basil leaves so that they are crispy little bursts of flavor. I highly recommend the basil stir fry with chicken or duck. My family usually orders some basil fried rice to share, which always gets inhaled. Peanut sauce- for those new to thai and not feeling particularly adventurous, the peanut dishes are for you! If you are ever at a Thai restaurant and looking for this sauce, peanut entrees typically have "Rama" in the title. You don't lose much of the flavor by cooling off the spice to one or no stars. Old siam's peanut sauce is hearty and sweet. I recommend it with chicken, tofu or over vegetables. The Pad Thai is good here a well, but there is so much more to explore on the menu I wouldn't lock yourself in to the habit of always ordering it like most Americans. read more

The Tom Kha Soup alone should give the place 5 stars. Very good food here and thank God for that because there aren't really any other options here in Jacksonville if you're craving Thai food. If I had one gripe, it would be the location/building/infrastructure problems that have plagued Old Siam each time I've come. There was water leaking through the ceiling of a closed off room, which I wouldn't mind except I have to go through there to use the restroom. The other two times they were unable to take cards because their system was down. At this point I'm not really holding it against them, the food and service is still excellent. read more

Ok, I rarely give reviews. But I feel this place deserves this one. We went in for dinner excited because this is one of the very few Thai restaurants in the area. Do yourself a favor and don't. We waited for nearly an hour after ordering to receive our food and there was only 1 other table dinning in. After receiving our food we start in to eat. I look to the right of me and notice a very large cockroach on the wall, this thing was the size of the palm of my hand. I immediately panicked. I stop eating and tell my family I feel extremely uncomfortable and wanted to leave. That's not the worst part. I look at the wall next to me, there's another one climbing up the wall. In front of me, there's another one. I begin to look and I can't even make this up, they were EVERYWHERE. We immediately ask for a check and try not to cause a scene. My husband began to pay and mentioned there was bugs crawling on the wall and the waitress responded "yea they come out when it rains". WHAT?? We pay our $75 check and immediately leave. They didn't offer a discount and we didn't ask, we were urgent to get out of here. We get to our car and my husband is upset of what had just happened. He goes back in and ask for a refund. The lady tried to act like she didn't know how to do a refund until my husband started to get frustrated at the fact that we had taken 1 bite of our food. She then decided to refund him but acted as if the bugs were no big deal. Save yourself a panic and just don't go here. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Jacksonville. It is price appropriate, clean, and we've always had excellent service. The food is very flavorful and the staff is very attentive and always willing to explain the dishes to you or recommend something to your taste based off what you normally would eat. I would recommend the Mango sweet rice dessert. We tried it on a whim and its easily my new favorite dish following the Pad Thai.
