Bean and coleslaw- average
Nicole N.

My boyfriend and I were on the hunt for some great BBQ and unfortunately, we are still on the hunt... This place is located in Shakopee and is next to Canterbury Downs (horse race track) and an amphitheater. It shares a smaller lot with other businesses, so parking can be a bit tricky. We were greeted by a friendly host and she immediately sat us. The waitress/bartender came over right away with water and asked if we wanted anything else. We said we would take a look at the menu. The drink menu however was blank... like nothing inside. When we alerted the waitress she laughed and said "oh well that's not great." But didn't do anything to fix it. We originally said we were going to stick with water but the water was gross! So we ordered sodas instead. The decor here is cute and it appeared to be clean/well taken care of. There are a lot of seating options between booth, high top and low top as well. They also have a fair amount of big screens and pull tabs. This place also smelled amazing but the food just did not capture that. We started with the smoked wings and got the sauces on the side. My boyfriend really liked them. I felt they were just ok. They were moist and a decent sized wing, but lacking any real smoke flavor. The garlic parm sauce was our fav and the ranch here is solid. We got the little pig. Another person noted "bland" and unfortunately we agree. There was absolutely no flavor the any of the meats! This place has the word "smokery" in it, and yet no smokiness at all. The other strange part was the texture. The pork and ribs were both mushy... my boyfriend said it was giving, "reheated" vibes. I don't know if that's true, but I've never had meat have a texture like that. The brisket in my opinion was actually decent. Though I wish it had more flavor, the texture was pretty good. The corn bread muffins were excellent and the sweet potato fries were also good. This place relies heavily on you putting lots of sauce on the meat, that's where the flavor comes in. I didn't care for the sauces very much either though. Unfortunately this was a let down. When you spend over $100 for food, you are expecting a quality experience. We will not be back.

Stopped at Mr. Pig's Smokery and thought it was just okay overall--not bad, but not the best BBQ I've had in Minnesota. I ordered the combo platter to try a few things. The ribs were probably the best part--good bark and the meat came off the bone easily. The pulled pork was moist, but a little softer than I personally prefer. The brisket was hit or miss for me. I don't like fatty pieces, so I only ended up enjoying one slice. For sides, I got beans, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. The beans were good, and the mashed potatoes were solid with no complaints. The mac and cheese, though, needs some work--it was pretty bland and the noodles were too soft. The cornbread muffins were actually a standout--they had a nice sweetness and were really enjoyable. I also tried a Kansas-style BBQ sauce that was much better than the ones on the table. The vinegar-based sauce wasn't for me. The decor is nice and inviting, with some fun details like twinkle lights in the center of the restaurant, and the bar area looks really good. Our server was good and was attentive to any needs. Overall, I'd maybe come back and try something different, but as it stands, it's just okay. There's better BBQ out there.

Went Super bowl Sunday! They have all day Happy Hour Sundays - keep that in mind. Restaurant wasn't busy at all since it was SB. We walked in and were able to seat ourselves. We were clearly looking at the HH menu when we ordered the majority of our items. Got drinks and I got wings, fries and corn bread. Cornbread was hard. Fries were a bit soggy but overall okay. I asked if the wings were seasoned at all (I know they are smoked and that gives it flavor), I was told yes but they were pretty bland. My friend ordered a brisket and rib platter, she said the brisket was dry and falling apart but the ribs were really good. We both didn't care for bbq sauces. She also ordered hush puppies which she said were fine. The hush puppies and wings are both on the HH menu... when we got the bill we noticed we were charged full price and questioned it. We were told the hh versions come with less. The wings w/ 4 wings and Hush puppies w/ 3. I ate 3 wings and my friend only finished 1 hush puppy so that would have been ideal servings anyways. I give service 1.5/5 stars just for her not clarifying that when we ordered. Felt like they were anti HH promotions to make up for slow sales. So if you dine during HH - make sure you let them know.

Table side BBQ sauces! Loved the Kentucky Bourbon (which our waitress brought over before our meal - ask for it!)

My father-in-law drove past this new Shakopee district and talked us in to trying Mr Pigs Smokery. We don't live in the area (about 50 mins away), but I'm so glad we did! It happened to be Super bowl Sunday, but early in the afternoon, and Mr Pigs was fairly busy. We were seated quickly and asked for our preference in table (high top versus standard table), which we appreciated. Our waitress stopped by quickly. I did notice they had all day Happy Hour and wish she would have expanded on the specials, particularity around food, if they had some. I will admit, she wasn't the most friendly, but she was attentive and she filled our order accurately! The cute lil' pigs sprinkled throughout the restaurant is SO cute. Three of four of us got the two meat platter, a mix of ribs, pulled pork and brisket. We were very pleased with the temperature of our food, the speed in which we received it, and the overall portion size (plenty to take home!) My father in law tried a full rack of ribs and took a good portion home. We also tried a variety of sides. Crowd pleaser and the single most reason for my return... the cornbread AND homemade honey butter. OMG. Soooo good! I asked for two additional muffins to take home with me and I enjoyed them THAT evening! No shame in my game. The only other bummer, IMO, was the water. It was absolutely disgusting, even with lemon....not drinkable. I wasn't the only person who thought this at our table. Can't wait to stop by Mr. Pigs Smokery, again.

What a fantastic barbecue joint nestled in the redevelopment of Shakopee! what used to be in old Chaska has now transitioned over to the new area closer to the Mystic Lake amphitheater with a revamped style, but still lots of old traditional recipes that made Mr. pigs who they are still today. The barbecue here is fantastic. Absolutely love the brisket.-it was juicy tender, just what you would hope for in brisket. I appreciate that they gave you different variety of sauces to choose from. I personally loved the mild, although the Kentucky bourbon had that sweet molasses flavor that you hoped for in a well-balanced barbecue sauce. I am the biggest critic when it comes to coleslaw, and Mr. pigs has the right balance of tangy, sweet, creamy without overdoing it. Each by the coleslaw is crunchy and flavorful and I feel like that's so hard to do and they nail it every time . The manager is fantastic and so kind, as we ended up visiting again for a catering tasting experience and immediately wanted to have them for our big day. The space is cozy. It's not a huge barbecue joint which on the flipside I actually really appreciate. I love how there are still pig tchotchkes from the old building brought to this new building. The west really has some fantastic barbecue and we are happy to add them to the list!

Last time I was in Shakopee I noticed a new restaurant and decided to suggest for our dinner before the show. My friends and I were glad we came here, food was delicious and service was great. Busy dinner rush, but we were able to get our table on time. Portions were just right for 3 people, with little to take home as leftovers. Ambiance reminds me of a cabin, wood covered the walls for the smoke meats.

Great place for bbq. Everything tasted really good! They don't skimp on the nacho toppings that's for sure! The only part I had a hard time getting used to was they used seasoned kettle potato chips and not tortilla chips for the base but the pork and toppings were legit! This place is next door to my other favorite restaurants in Shakopee, "Bravis" and "OG ZaZa." I'm loving this location and it's next to Canterbury Park.

Two plate combo with brisket and ribs and Mac and coleslaw and mashed potatoes as a side

Great service, great food, and the set up of the restaurant was great. Seems like the summer would be a fun time to go get some bbq but it was nice and cozy in the fall. The coleslaw I wouldn't recommend but the potatoes and mac and cheese were phenomenal and the brisket super tender as well as the ribs. The bbq sauces weren't bad but not my favorite. Overall would recommend and will be back

Corn bread

We found Mr Pig Smokery from a video on Facebook and decided to give it a try, and I'm glad we did. Everything we had was really good. The food was excellent across the board. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender with great flavor, and the brisket was super tender as well. The cornbread was perfectly cooked, which I always look for at BBQ spots, so that was a big win for me. The beans were excellent, and the cheesy potatoes were well-seasoned and hit the spot. The service was excellent, and I really liked the atmosphere and the inside of the building, it had a great vibe. Overall, great experience and definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

I can not say more than I have already l shared but it's a new name the new face lift and new location is worth the move !! MR pig Smokery is fantastic !! Portion sizes are perfect unless you need to eat more and the sides are fantastic ! Can't go wrong with your choices! Our server was super informative and fantastic !! Thank you Leah !! Great place for first date or for family ambience! This place will stay busy during weekends or concert times so come Early if you have an event to go to at Canterbury.

Sauces
Kathleen R.

Ate here twice and both were decent. Hush puppies were decent, especially for a northern business. I would skip the nachos, too many chips and not enough "stuff" on them. Sauces are good and a wide range of flavors. Service both times was good, one at the bar for pickup order and one at a table before going to the racetrack. Ambiance is lively and a bit loud,

I imagine it would be really nice in the spring/summer as there is a horse track right outside of the restaurant which would provide a great view to a race. It definitely got a little loud just sitting inside They had a large variety of options to choose from on the menu. They also offered a great and surprisingly extensive Happy Hour Menu which we got there in time to take advantage of.  We got the burger and thought it was very tasty, we love a good caramelized onion. I thought it definitely needed some ketchup to balance out the heaviness of the onions and cheese with a little bright acidity. I also thought the patties themselves were very good, thin with a slight crisp to them with a soft bun and melty sauces and cheese. Since it was a happy hour option the burger did not come with any sides like it would have as an entrée. We also got fish tacos and we were a big fan of the slaw and pineapple mayo which brought a balance of sweet and savory to the dish. Only came with two tacos (at least for happy hour) which might not be enough food if you're hungry. The hot smoked salmon was one of the more unique items we tried. The salmon itself was super tasty - salty and smoky just what you want. They use the smaller scraps of salmon that wouldn't work in their Wood-Fired King Salmon entrée and incorporate it into this appetizer which is great sustainability-wise! The salmon came with a creamy ricotta, salty capers, crunchy crostini, and sweet and acidic pickled red onions. We liked this combination a lot but felt it could have used even more sweetness/acidity, maybe just adding a couple more onions to the dish. We really enjoyed the 'Garganelli' pasta dish. It was creamy and indulgent with pieces of lobster and freshly shaved parmesan on top. The chili added a really nice layer of heat but wasn't overpowering. The server was nice enough to split up everything we had over the evening to share (which explains the two small portions in the photo). MN Mule - 8/10 Pretty average but solid mule. However, it was served in a plastic spam cup which elevated the whole experience. Margarita - 9/10 Very good margarita - we were told it was a house made margarita not from a mix. Very bright and fresh flavors that definitely let the tequila shine. Overall would definitely recommend!

We went back today and while it was still good, definitely wasn't as good as it was last time. The jerk chicken plate removed the beans, changed the rice, and got rid of the sauce so it wasn't as good though it was a bit less dry than last time. They also removed the Ropa Vieja from the menu which was our favorite. My husband had the Cuban sandwich and was not impressed. The fries with it were good. The drinks were still great. Service was friendly but slow (drinks, food, and waitress all slow). Another in our party got the blackened salmon which was really good. Unfortunately, I was so nervous they would remove or change the menu to be worse, which is a common theme I've noticed with 4 different restaurants by these owners now, so I was so bummed to see that's exactly what happened. Such a cool vibe, great drinks, and a really cool new patio - but the food needs a bit of work - bring back the Ropa Vieja and the better jerk chicken!

Great food, great service, there's not much I would change!…read more Mr. Pig Stuff recently moved into a new location and I have to begin by saying, their new space is beautiful. It's gives off a modern whiskey house/southern rustic vibe. Plenty of indoor seating and a cute patio with an indoor/outdoor bar top. I have eaten here 3 times in the past few months and my experience has been the same each time, wonderful! My two favorite meals are the Smoked Chicken Wings and The Pile sandwich. The chicken wings: I'm the type to always sauce up any wing I get. Pig Stuff's wings will come out dry rubbed with your sauce in the side. At first I was hesitant but now I know why! Their dry rub is fantastic! The flavors are Smokey, savory, and salty - easily eaten on their own. The meat is very juicy and falls off of the bone! (8.5/10) The Pile: this is a sandwich consisting of brisket, pulled pork, Mac & cheese, and coleslaw. It's a monster of a sandwich and could definitely make a mess but OMG it is tasty! The sandwich comes with BQQ sauce, but who needs it when you have the juiciness of the pork, smokiness of the brisket, creaminess of the Mac & cheese, and the tang of coleslaw! It's almost hard not to finish this sandwich. (9/10) Another favorite are their fries. Fresh, crispy, and well seasoned. You can also get them as garlic parm fries where they drizzle their wing sauce across the top - YUM. (8/10) Lastly, the service here has always been impeccable. We made a reservation on both occasions but didn't have to make it too much in advance so it's always worth checking on. Service is always spectacular with a huge attention to detail and really customized spiels about the menu. The things I've recently tried for drinks have included the spritz del ambratta, the fiore, and a sparkling red from their wine selection. I find myself going back to the Fiore and would recommend that most although their wine is a solid selection as well. In my opinion, the best starter combination is the focaccia plus the lemony beans. The focaccia is solid and it's so good to dip in the mixture that the beans are doused in. The Caesar was decent as well but you can't miss with that other combo. Then, of course, the mains. If you love creamy pasta, do yourself a favor and get the cavatelli. One of my favorite dishes I've had there; I kept almost comparing it to an adult Mac and cheese. Great for sharing if creamy pastas are a bit too rich for your liking. The lasagna is always a close second and you can't go wrong with it. My friend adored the pickle pizza and I thought it was solid too although I would still probably get the cavatelli or lasagna if you are between that and the pizza. Another great shareable. The saffron spaghetti was decent with some really good bite from the noodles and the taste of saffron really coming through, but I would probably get those other dishes before I would order that. On the first occasion, I was there we were celebrating two of my friends' 30th birthdays and H&S did such a good job of celebrating and making them feel special plus they brought out French silk pie cannolis for us plus glasses of sparkling wine, so I would highly recommend this place as a celebratory dinner.
