Yesterday I brought my grandson (almost 4yrs.old) in with his balance bike. bolt holding rear wheel on broke. They were so friendly and nice. While they did not have an exact replica, they did have a bolt that would fit and they were able to cut it down. My grandson rode his bike out of the shop to the car. A very excited little man. We had been at an other local bike shop earlier in the day they were snarky, and sent us away. read more

Reminds me of my favorite bike shop long ago in Seattle ... people who love bikes and understand not everyone's dream is to drop $5k on some carbon fiber full suspension flavor of the day. I stopped in recently with my commuter single speed with what I thought was a stretched chain ... one of the mechanics on duty simply removed a link to get the proper tension and gave me a quick lesson on brake adjustments to boot. I haven't been here in a while. When the heck did they move? The website still refers to the old location but also the new. Anyway, I do like the new location. It has a lot more space. I went there for a kid's bike and walked in the door as opposed the garage doors which were open. I'm not sure if anyone noticed me but I walked around looking for a kid's bike. I found a few to the far right but only a small few, maybe three. I couldn't find anyone to help me so I left. I hope this is an anomaly. I'll still be a fan but a disappointed one. read more

Top notch. Great spot for all of your biking needs. I was at my wit's end a couple of days ago messing with my front derailleur. I needed my bike for my commute the next morning, an hour before closing time I took a chance and called Olde Spokes Home. Scott told me to come on down and he'd take a look at it. Not only did he fix the issue with some fine tuning, but as he listened to me describe how I was riding and wished I had a bit more to my bike he pointed out how I could get more out of my cassette. He also walked me through the fix as he was doing it explaining the ins and outs - some I knew (spent a lot of time on YouTube trying to fix it myself), other rid bits were totally new to me. I'll definitely be taking some of their workshops/classes on bike maintenance. Great shop. Even better staff!! read more

Really the best. I've read a few bad reviews on here and I just don't agree. Under the circumstances that EVERYONE is riding bikes now and wanting service NOW!, it's not possible that it's going to be like pre-virus. I've been visiting Old Spokes since I've moved here 14 years ago and they're just the best. I dare you to try anywhere else, the competition: will try and sell you a new bike, will charge you ridiculous prices, won't have the part (which has to be new). I've always had almost instant service for small fixes. Very generous pricing for any other service. Willingness to do whatever it takes to get me on my bike again. The barrier to entry to ride a bike for most folks seems to be $6K for the bike and $2K for the garb. Old Spokes will get you on a bike and riding and maybe it won't be the 'fanciest' or 'lightest',but it's not required that you wear spandex bike shorts and logos on the skin tight shirt. This is not a bike race or extreme...it's about the bliss of riding a bike. read more

We pulled an old bike from the dump because it was a decent bike, not in too bad of shape, and would make for a good bumming around town bike. It needed to be fixed up a bit so we found Old Spokes on Yelp and, since it was well-rated, decided to give it a try. And they lived up to their rating. They understood we weren't looking to ride the Tour de France and helped us get up and running on the cheap by finding a used rear wheel replacement, throwing on a couple new tires, and tuning things up a bit. Really disappointed in my experience with old spokes. I needed new tubes in my tires, which I specified over the phone, and originally dropped off my bike April 23rd or 24th. The person who I spoke with on the phone said it shouldn't take longer than a couple days, at the very longest it would take till the sixth of May. They suggested I also get a new chain and a tune-up, and wanting to support a local business, I agreed. The repairs took till the 8th, and when I called a half hour before close to pay over the phone, my call was sent to voicemail every time. I actually watched the staff leave and lock up while I sat there in my car after getting there 15 min before close. At the very least, just take the call and tell me it's too late to pick up. I left work early to get there on time. When I did pick up my bike on the 9th, they HAD NOT changed out the tubes, which was the whole initial point of getting my bike serviced. They then charged me a service fee for the tube installation that they had overlooked in the first place. Made me wish I hadn't agreed to the extra services; I have friends that could have done it same-day in exchange for price of parts and some beer. Overall, the whole ordeal was a massive disappointment. While I want to support a local business with a great cause, I will be bringing my business elsewhere. read more

Old Spokes were packed with people when I walked in, but someone stopped and asked what I was looking for then pointed me up. Upstairs is their collection of used bikes in all kinds of styles and price ranges. I quickly found a bike I wanted but had a dilemma because I would only be in town for 1 month and had a fully functional bike at home. I asked one of the guys at the store and he agreed to buy the bike back for 1/2 price as long as I kept it in good condition. I was thrilled because frankly I was spending more than I wanted. Their prices, even for used bikes, are not cheap. They do guarantee the bike for life. The associates also helped with some sizing adjustments for the bike I bought and explained the biking laws for the town. They were very knowledgeable and helpful! Not pretentious like some bike shops tend to be. Would definitely return and purchase from them again and again. read more

Super-solid service from the staff here. Yeah, you get the hipster vibe at first, but within the first 5 minutes of talking to these guys you get nothing but a good vibe and honst answers. I am a big guy, and could easily have been blown off by the staff as an annoyance that wouldn't work well on the "cool" rigs, but these guys took the time to help me find a bike that worked well for me. I will repay the ownership with repeat visits, because of the outstanding staff they have hired. One of the best bike shops I've seen. The sales part of the shop in front is small but they only carry the best products. They haven't loaded it up with everything under the sun - only outstanding products - nice, that's a time saver. I've never understood why some bike shops will have 30 bike lock choices for example - just show me the best one(s) at each price point. Their selection of bikes - used and new - is extensive. You have to ask because they're all upstairs - it's not immediately apparent, but trust me the selection is fantastic. But, most importantly, their customer service folks are incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, patient and thorough. I've been really impressed every time I've visited the store. It's one of those businesses where after 15 minutes you want to buy the store or work here yourself. Nice job to all that work here!!! read more

What is not to love? This is a locally-owned used and new bike shop that does high quality repairs and even houses a small yet interesting bike museum. I've gone to Old Spokes Home for inner tubes, brake pads, a new wheel, routine tune ups and to convert my mid 1980s Torpado into a single speed flier. In each case they've done great work and everyone I've come into contact with who works there is nice and knowledgeable. One employee let me test ride his own bike around the neighborhood because it was equipped with brakes I was thinking of installing on my bike. Their selection of used bikes is extensive (located upstairs in a loft) and they do carry a limited number of new bikes as well. The shop also carries some accessories (lights, fenders, Brooks saddles, etc.). The work can sometimes feel expensive but the quality of the work seems to make it feel worth it. read more

Waiting in line is a fact of life these days and I don't mind waiting my turn but after waiting 25 minutes in line in the parking lot and seeing them choose to serve 4 other people who arrived after me (one rude older woman with a kid who blithely cut ahead of the line and 3 other younger bikey types who seemed to be buddies of theirs) I had had enough and left. I don't think anyone should have any faith that their bike will be repaired in order of receipt, especially if one of their buddies shows up and needs something. My previous experience with this shop a couple of years ago was positive; otherwise I wouldn't have given them two stars. read more

The staff were very warm and friendly without being overbearing. I got the distinct impression that they like their job. While I was shopping, there was a toddler rushing around and knocking things off the shelves and they were just genuinely laughing at her antics instead of getting annoyed (and they would have been at least a little bit justified in reacting badly). I just moved into Burlington, and I wanted to get a good, solid bike for the bike path, and for the trails in the area. I recieved very accurate advice for a bike that would suit what I needed. Extremely helpful group, let me test ride a couple of bikes for about 10 mins each out in the parking lot. Moreover, they were very, very patient while I considered options. I recieved great advice about my basket in the front, and my lights in the front/back. Really solid pricing for the amount of work this stuff takes, and the knowlegability of the staff in the building. I've had more bad experiences with bike mechanics than good ones. That is, until I moved to Burlington and took my bike to Old Spokes! I've taken my bike there twice and have had great experiences both times. The first time was for a basic tune-up and the second time was today for a shifting issue. Today, they took a look at my bike immediately, fixed the issue while teaching me a bit about my bike (my bike: fascinating machine, me: dumb dumb human/naive rider), and it only set me back a couple of bucks. No attitude or mansplaining! So very appreciated. read more

I was traveling for business and managed to pick up a bike on eBay and needed to ship it home. I found old spokes online made a phone call Dan was extremely helpful explained to me that they would do a disassemble pack and ship and arrange to have the bike shipped via FedEx to my home. Tom was phenomenal with his follow up making sure that everything went as easily as possible, great communication via the phone and follow up emails. What I was most pleased with is when I went into the shop and met the staff and saw their business and how it's run. What a great concept that serves the average cyclist I could have walked out of there with three more bikes to add to the collection because what they have in there is just so cool. Their accessories were spot on and their collection of repurposed bicycles were like walking through a museum all at very affordable prices. Thank you old spokes home for a great experience and when I'm back up this way staying at our home in the Adirondacks I will be sure to drive to your shop for any of my needs. Old Spokes Home is really busy, so you may have to wait to get work done on your bike, but they will do their best to fit you in. This shop is a true gem. It's a surprising rarity to find a bike shop specializing in thoughtful, practical, bicycles these days. Internal hubs, dynamo lighting, fenders, baskets, vintage parts, fixed/single speed parts, and a great selection of new and used bikes can be had here for very reasonable prices. And if they don't have it, they can almost always get it for you. But what I appreciate the most about this shop is the staff. Where else can you get your 1969 Sturmey AW hub rebuilt? Need to discuss gear ranges on the new internal geared hubs? Just need a cheap fix to get your commuter back on the road? Need a discontinued vintage part? They've done this all for me, and I always leave having learned something new. I also know several women (my wife included) who will shop nowhere else for bicycle parts or maintenance. They never get pressured, always get respected, and get exactly what they ask for at a very fair price. It's too bad to hear of the other reviewer's experience; however, I'd chalk that up to a communication error. The owner and manager are really nice people and I bet either would have listened and rectified the problem, if they had only known. I continue to recommend this shop to friends needing a bike, parts, or service. It's also a great place to check out a very cool historic bike collection (in the attic) if you're just in town visiting. I've been a customer for near 8 years now, and hope to be for many more to come. read more

This place is the best. They understand the needs of every day bicycle commuters. They have always helped me find rare, impossible to find parts. They have fixed my bike when other shops in town have told me its not worth it (and for a reasonable charge too!). Fei, I understand your feelings. "bike guys" can be intimidating, and this is something that bike shops everywhere grapple with. However, I have found these guys to be the most open, optimistic and helpful "bike guys" anywhere. I hope you give them a second chance and maybe confront them or the owner about your experience. From my experience i bet they would be happy to make right by you. Many people on the staff don't think much of or respect women. They often take advantage of inexperience and trust in women and girls looking to either get parts or a bike. They will price gouge and cut corners if you don't know what to look for. Also, if you ever go to them for parts (which they often have a good selection and quality) make sure you know what you are looking for and don't trust their measurements. You can bring in a set of brakes, pedals, or handlebars and have the staff measure them and give you new ones only to come home just to find that nothing fits or there are bolts and nuts missing. As for their work, they can fix almost anything, though don't expect it to be top of the line. If you don't know what you're doing, they will send you home with an ALMOST tuned derailer so you'll be back in a month with the same issue. read more
