Have been a customer for decades but sadly will never set foot in the store again due to the way my wife and I were treated by the male salesperson who works in the bike department. My husband bought his snow board from ski rack and it has been top tier since he purchased it. They helped fit him into the perfect gear and size. One of his bindings broke yesterday (probably due to the tough terrain). He brought it back and Tyler over there fixed it right away. We came from out of state to do an organized bike ride on Champlain island. We reserved hybrid bikes via email. The staff is very responsive to email. The bikes were ready when we arrived for pickup. We also rented a rack for the car. It was $35 for a 24 hour rental. The rack was $20. You park behind the store in their Free lot. The store is huge with a lot of merchandise. The staff is very friendly. There is a water cooler you can fill your water bottle. The Burlington trail is a few blocks from store. It's a paved route that goes 11 miles to Champlain island. We biked five miles of it. It goes along the lake's beach and forested areas. read more

Never go to this shop, literally any other will do fine. I brought my bike in to do a relatively easy dropper post fix, and got my bike back 3 weeks later. The workers broke a small part within the dropper post system, and had me buy a new one rather than providing the part they broke. This process took a week and a half total. After bringing the part in, I was told that my bike would be ready to be picked up the next Friday, which I was totally fine for. I was not fine when they completely forgot to get to my bike, this was confirmed by the employee the Saturday after when they said "we dropped the ball". They ended up getting it done on Sunday, and when I brought it back to my room, I realized that the rear tire was COMPLETELY deflated, and the shifting cord that they decided to reroute was not cut at all, and overhung an entire foot. We have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars in this establishment. We have shopped here for years. Our go to when we need to buy some thing the first place comes to mind is skirack. At Christmas time we were going to buy our daughter snowboard boots and bindings and of course my instinct was to head right down to Skirack... I went there after speaking with somebody of what time is it be a good time to have somebody help me showed up and I stood around for 40 minutes watch people walk by me watched all kinds of employees standing around chatting with one another playing on their phones. After waiting for 40 minutes I left. It became a challenge to see if somebody would acknowledge the fact that I was just standing there waiting for somebody to come over and help me. Nobody did so I left and I called a manager and told him what happened they said we wish you would come and give us another try. At that point I went online and bought a snowboard is in very expensive boots and would have been more than happy to give the money to skirack. With that being said I didn't care to buy bindings online so I thought I would give them another try and we went down and spoke to an excellent amazing employee Riley. Fit us with some union bindings and off we went. Our daughter was ecstatic to receive her snowboard boots and bindings for Christmas and use them three times when her binding snapped. We had upgraded and spent $269 on the bindings alone. Went back to the store where they told me this one rude person told me that they would have to contact the union company and it takes a few weeks to hear back from them and then they would give us a call and then they would see what they could do. I nicely informed him that that was not going to be the case I was going to be leaving with brand-new bindings because it was a Christmas gift and she used them three times. It was beyond rude and decided to just walk away. Another rude employee said what she do to them anyway? I said well she's a very careful 12-year-old and she did nothing to them but snowboard she didn't fall she didn't mark him up she didn't nick them. If you looked at her snowboard there was not a mark on it. My next response was they should be able to handle a little bit of wear and tear other than just three times. So the first rude employee came out I send another person that actually and told them just to give me bindings apparently just shut me up. But that's the way it was going to be because I was not leaving without new bindings. I decided to write a letter to the owners so I called the store to get the email address and I was given the sons email address. No response four days later I emailed back and I said well your silence speaks volumes. Finally responded with a very and caring email saying all the way the world is blah blah blah blah blah we're behind we're not doing well with customer service and it shows. Asked me what I was looking for and I responded back but I'm not looking for anything I thought because we have shopped there for so long wouldn't spend so much money that you would like to know how our service was. Asked me if I wanted to meet or speak with him on the phone and I said I did I would like to speak with him on the phone. Once again no response so I emailed back can you said oh I didn't realize you wanted to do anything. I did not bother responding because I felt that they truly have changed so much that they just don't care. No my first instinct will not be to go to the store. We'll search elsewhere. Jake does an amazing professional fit for bikes and I will go there for him. When it is something else truly truly truly will have to think long and hard if I really want to endure such rude behavior. My feeling is if the owners do not care and they don't really appreciate your business why should I go spend my extremely hard earned money there?! If I was the owner and received an email such as mine I would've been on the phone trying to make things right asking what went wrong and how they should fix it. I wanted to speak directly with the owners but I only got the sun and well does not seem to care. It's very sad because it's her was our favorite store not any longer. The first root employee said well you know it is Covid time and we are shortstaffed I said do not hand me that there were four people standing around playing on their phones and not helping anyone so no! We did go back in to get a pair of goggles for our daughter and one person that was helping us and will I have to go to lunch someone else can help you. Seriously I've been in customer service for a long long time and you don't walk away in the middle of a sale to go to lunch you finish your sale and then you go. It is not because of the times we are in because like I said a lot of them standing around playing on their phones instead of helping people. We came to Skirack to rent bicycles after another local bike shop had run out. You need to come early if you are serious about getting a bike. We were a group of 3 and we were very fortunate to get our hands on a tandem bicycle and a single bike. You pay with a credit card which they keep on file (and shred when you return) as collateral. See my photos for pricing: we went with the 4 hour rental and it cost $69 for the two bicycles. It was a really nice package that comes with a bike lock and helmut. The man who helped us, Will, was so kind and patient and really took good care of us. He made sure he explained to us the kind of bikes we were getting and explained how to adjust the seats, etc. He even pointed out their water cooler for us to fill our bottles before beginning the trail. He provided a map and explained how the trail goes and about how long it takes to complete, etc. Kudos to Will, he's awesome! The trail is right out the back door of the store. We tried out the tandem bicycle in the back lot. The bike trail is 10 miles one way from the Skirack. So both ways is a 20 mile bike ride. You can even go farther if you take the ferry but we opted out since we were tight on time. The Skirack gave us a great experience! Would definitely come back again. read more

I ordered a Patagonia hoody on 11/14 and kept checking to see if it had shipped. I just got an email from Skirack this afternoon, 11/16, saying they actually didn't have the hoody in the size I ordered. This is a ridiculous error that shouldn't happen in 2021. What really sucks is that before I ordered it from Skirack I got on a waitlist with Patagonia to be notified if the size showed up in their stock. Sure enough it showed up this morning and this afternoon I heard from Skirack that they messed up on my order. I then checked the Patagonia website and the item I had wanted in my size is now gone. This place has everything. Just popped in to see if they had any sales on a day trip up from Ticonderoga and wound up browsing for several hours. They have running and cycling stuff in addition to everything for downhill or xcountry skiing. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. The cycling gear they carry is all good quality and they have nearly everything you could possibly need. I would up buying a helmet and a rear mudguard that could fit my hard tail with a dropper post. You can easily spend half a day in this place if you are into cycling/skiing/running. Sales were not that great, but they made up for it by having a really exhaustive selection. read more

Since 1998, I have purchased two mountain bikes from the Ski Rack and had them serviced multiple times. I brought my bike in for a spring tune-up one year, and the bike tech told me that I didn't need one - saved me $50 or $60 right there. I bought a bike rack from them and they followed me outside and installed it in my parallel parking spot which made me wonder how far they would've walked to install it for me. They carry ski's (telemark, xc and alpine), snowshoes, snowboards, bikes, water sports stuff, shoes, racks... I can't remember it all, just check out their website. Help staff is super friendly, although it can be difficult at busy times to find help. Annual Bike Swap in early spring is awesome for finding bike deals. read more

Don't rent anything here!!!! I made the mistake of renting snowshoes for $40 a pair for two days. It came to $85 for two people. Imagine how upset I was when I went to Outdoor Gear Exchange and saw that they rent out snowshoes for $14 a pair for two days!!!! Basically I lost $50 just by going to this place. Rentals are ridiculously expensive and they take advantage of people's ignorance of the prices. Go elsewhere to rent ski equipment and snowshoes, the prices here are ridiculous. read more

We bought a whole setup for my husband here not too long ago and their recommendation was spot on. And, they did a great job fitting me (and my husband) for boots but when I'm in the store by myself, they always ignore me in the ski area and approach other people first, unless I aggressively ask for help. So, even though they're very technically skilled, I've made it a habit to go to their competitors and have spent a lot more money over the years at their competitors. I had a good experience taking my aging Trek 830 here for a little TLC. It'd been sitting in my parents garage for years, then it sat outside through a Vermont winter. I expected them to turn me away, saying I've be further ahead just scraping it and starting with something new. The guy behind the counter said "No! We can fix it up for you with our basic tune-up service". He did tack on an extra $20 or so onto the estimate in case it needed some parts. He said if the estimate would exceed that, he'd give me a call... I expected that call, especially since some reviews claim they are pushy for more expensive services than needed. It never came. He also mentioned since it was spring they were busy, and he'd need probably a week or two. This was no problem. Much to my surprise the "We're all set, come pick up your bike" call came just a few days later! I went, picked up my bike, and it was cheaper than the estimate had predicted! Score! I also was in the market for a new helmet, so another guy starts asking me what kind of riding I was doing, and what I expected from a helmet...when I mentioned I would just be commuting, and didn't care much about color or style as I had a black bike, he literally said I'd be best off with their cheapest model of helmet. Again, color me shocked after the reviews of pricey recommendations. And to top it all off, they were so busy that I was given 10% off the helmet for the amount of time I waited (which wasn't all that long, to be honest.). They have a great selection of gear, and the store is huge. Coupled with the friendly service I received, I'll definitely be back. read more

This is a well organized store, with a good section of gear for biking, running, etc. The place is always clean, well-lit, and stocked with whatever items you could want. That said, despite numerous attempts, I have barely ever bought anything at this store, simply because there doesn't seem to be anybody available to help you. I've been going there about once or twice a year for several years now and the same thing always seems to happen. Usually, after 10+ minutes of looking for help with a size or something, I manage to grab somebody to help. Then, they disappear and seem to be trying to unsuccessfully help 5 or 6 other people. Finally, they show back up and the cycle repeats itself until I walk across the street to another shop. I've NEVER had this problem at ANY other gear store in Burlington. I don't think it's the staffs fault, it seems like they are just way understaffed all the time. They all seem to be interested in helping, knowledgeable, etc. The management should take a trip over to some of the other downtown bike and gear shops, where staff levels always seem to fit with the number of people in the stores. If they had 2 or 3 more people working in the store at any given time, perhaps I'd actually be able to buy something for this shop in the future. read more

A month ago Steve helped me when I traded my bike in. I went on today to buy a new bike and as soon as I walked in Steve recognized me and told me he'd be right with me. He was excellent! I was blown away by the customer service he provided and the time he spent making sure I was really comfortable with my purchase. I had a kick stand and basket installed. This is the granddaddy of all sports gear/equipment stores in Burlington, and it's a good one. I've been in here several times to purchase gear for my bike, get my bike serviced, or just browse around while friends are shopping, and it's always been a great experience. Last fall I thought I needed new back brakes for my bike and was prepared to pay the $20-30 dollars to have it done, but the bike tech informed me that all I really needed was a cable tightening for $5. I was impressed that they didn't take advantage of a casual, unknowing cyclist like me! In general, it's certainly more expensive to buy things here than chain stores, but it's worth it to support an awesome local business and not have to travel into South Burlington or Williston! read more

Who has extra money to spend on sports stuff? I don't, but I do it anyways. After a lovely day of painful boot snowboarding I decided I should go and try on some snowboarding boots at Ski Rack. I showed up around 4PM or so and was helped immediately. I asked to try on three different pairs of boots and was brought them almost instantaneously. Will, the snowboard boot superman helped fit me into boots, size the superfeet, and Derek, provided some awesome customization to the liner to make the boots like walking on clouds. Now, for snowboarding boots, that's a pretty major accomplishment. I was so wowed by the feel of the boots and Will and Derek's willingness to work with me that I willingly and happily handed over all of my money. Beacuse, if my feet are happy, then you stand a chance of surviving crossing my path on the slopes! :) read more

Very positive mail order experience with "Sam", I believe, who spent considerable time with me to be sure of the right size for Toko gloves and Swix pants. You know, mail order can be a hassle if it doesn't fit the first time; no problem with Skirack and "Sam" (sure hope I got your name right!). "Sam" has the right attitude about his role dealing with customers: he's the final link. The sale is either a positive or "bland" or maybe no sale at all; however, Sam's customer-relations focus practically guarantees a sale and insures a satisfied customer. Highest marks! read more

Exceptional sales service when buying cross country skis. Sam downstairs did a couple things which were awesome as my wife and I were looking to buy her a pair of XC skis. 1) Asked us how we would use the skis in both the short term and long-term 2) Asked us early on what our price range was and kept us in that range. 3) Made sure he understood if the equipment fit properly. My wife said the boots are too short, and he said, "By that I think you mean that you can feel the edges of the boot with your toes, is that right" $300 for boots, bindings, and poles is what we walked away with. read more

This is a really cool store. I went to pick up my bib for the race and I ended up spending an hour just browsing. It's got a ton of outdoor sports equipment and clothing. It's too bad I've already gone all out on winter sports gear, but maybe next year I'll get something from here. I really like the running section, it had a lot of good gear. You can even try out a running shoe and test run it on a treadmill. I didn't really see a good selection of running shoes though, but I guess they're the skirack for a reason. I really can't say enough good things about this place. I grew up in Vermont, skiing all the time. I had moved away for over a decade, and I've recently moved back to New England and started skiing again. I decided to get new equipment, and Doug and the rest of the staff help me find everything I needed, balancing solid equipment that matched my needs with a reasonable price. The staff are v friendly and helpful and the bikes were in excellent condition - the staff take the time to ensure that the saddle etc is adjusted correctly for your height. Hm. I think I went on an off day. The staff was friendly enough when I brought my new-to-me, heavily-used bicycle in for a tune-up and clean-up. I'm not a gear head by a long shot, so I approved their service recommendations. The bike had been sitting in a garage for years and was pretty dusty and cobwebby, so I asked for a thorough cleaning. I mentioned that the bike was new to me, so I would need help getting it adjusted so that it fit me. No problem, that's something they could take care of. I picked up my bike a few days later. It was still as dusty and cobwebby as it was when I dropped it off. And I was told that they decided to patch one of the inner-tubes rather than replace it, which was meant to save me a few bucks. When I asked about getting the bike adjusted, I was told that I had to go make an appointment upstairs. The folks upstairs said that they didn't have any time available that day. I asked if they'd be willing to at least adjust the seat to fit my legs, which they did. I left wondering why they didn't mention the need for an appointment when I first brought it in. I took the bike out for a 15-mile ride. It rode very smoothly, though it desperately needs a new seat. My lower back and backside were killing me afterward. Last month when I got the bike out to go for a ride, the tire that had the patched inner-tube was flat. My boyfriend, who is an avid bicyclist, asked me why I didn't have the inner-tube replaced. He was puzzled that someone at a reputable bicycle repair shop would recommend a patch rather than a replacement, since the replacement isn't expensive at all, and it's obviously a more reliable fix. I'm all for patronizing local businesses and really do think my first experience with Skirack was atypical; I've heard too many great things about the place from people whose opinions I value. Maybe I should've known more about bicycles before taking mine there in the first place. read more

We had a superb experience with the Ski Rack, buying bikes. We bought two bikes with the knowledgeable assistance of Gabby, who spent at least a couple of hours with us, making sure my wife and I had the right bikes, which were sized and set up properly. This was particularly important for my wife, who has really long legs. Gabby had each of ride several models, and at times a different size of each model. After 2 or 3 hours, we each had the perfect bike. Gabby is amazing. We also had Parker help us with selecting the right bike carrier for our car, which was really helpful. Even more helpful was his patient step-by-step tutoring in attaching the bike carrier for the first time. All in all, a superb example of customer service by Parker and especially Gabby. Gabby's thorough, cheerful, and professional efforts have already resulted in hours of comfortable and enjoyable bike riding. read more

I came to Skirack for a new pair of running sneakers, at the recommendation of my PT. I need a Goldilocks kind of sneaker: not too much support, not too little, but just right. Kyle did a marvelous job at helping me try on a couple of different sneakers, doing a couple rounds of videotaping my ankles while I walked and jogged on a treadmill to make sure my feet were aligned.
