    Hometown steamed noodles with pork
    Ying L.

Heard some good reviews about the place, and we came in after a hike at 6:30pm Saturday. It was full, and we waited for 10minutes. Strongly recommend call for a reservation This restaurant is serving Henan style dishes , and steamed noodle is the signature dish. The portion is big for noodle, tasted average though, it was on the dry side compared to the noodles I had in Henan or homemade . We also ordered spicy and sour shredded potato and hometown stew, both tasted average compared to the homemade. The reason that I am giving 4star is that this is one of the cleanest and cozy little Chinese restaurants . And service is very friendly and attentive! Will come back when we hungry for some hometown or homemade comfort foods. They are not open on Sunday and Monday, so be sure to check the business hours before coming.

Amazing service and delicious comfort food. The staff is very friendly and helpful with picking what to order (and actually suggested we not overorder haha). The portion of the steamed noodles is gigantic so we had a lot of leftovers to bring home. Would definitely come back for the hometown stew and to try other dishes there!

A new place that my friend and I wanted to try on a very rainy day. Located in a plaza on Don Mills, this place is run by a family. This place seems like they specialize Schezuan cuisine. The interior feels homey and reminds me of being in a home or restaurant in a Ghibli movie. There are a lot of Chinese books on the book shelves, and they play some emotional classical music. The family has excellent customer service and they make sure you are comfortable and having an amazing experience in their restaurant, and they are very friendly and kind. We ordered a variety of dishes. My favourites are the stir fried eggplant and green beans, and the mapo tofu. The eggplant and beans dish is surprisingly delicious with its Oyster sauce. The tofu dish is not too spicy but enough for a person with a low spice tolerance to handle. Overall, I would definitely come back here and try more of their dishes!

Hidden gem in the area. Food portion was huge, we ordered the steamed noodle and stew and the 2 of us didn't finish them. The flavor is authentic homemade, very cozy place. The owners are super friendly and approachable! Would come back again!

I have been to Old Time multiple times when I was down. The restaurant owner always cheer me up with his attitude about life and the food there. While there are not many customers everyday, this is a warming restaurant that you can and should visit frequently.

The reviews I read for this place were great but our food was too greasy. We did takeout and won't be coming back.

I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

I ordered a combo which comes with a selection of noodles/chow mein, a small appetizer, and drink. I chose their traditional Lanzhou beef noodle (you also get to choose what type of noodle to get. I got the medium flat noodle). For app, I got their kelp salad which was so refreshing, and a HK style iced tea. My friend was particularly craving their skewers which were a decent size too. I forgot to take pics, but their portions are very generous for the price. Their noodles are hand pulled and you can really tell the difference in the quality. It's more bouncy and filling as they have more substance to them. Their service was very attentive and quick, and while the space of the restaurant is fairly small, there was no wait for 2 of us at 6:30 on a Saturday. Coming with a bigger group may be tougher considering the space. My total bill came to just under $26 after tax and tip, which is very reasonable for the amount and quality of food I got. No complaints at all and I'll definitely be back to an Omni Noodle location for comfort value eats.

The main portion of the dish is super tender braised pork knuckle (not as weird as it may sound) on a bed of white rice glazed with a house Chinese BBQ sauce. It comes with sides of pickled "sour" veggies (酸菜), cabbage, tofu, and hard boiled egg. The pork knuckle almost melts in your mouth and is so decadent with the BBQ sauce. The sides give nice textural contrast and palette contrast. VALUE (5/5) The pork knuckle rice altogether is $10 plus tax and leaves you full and fulfilled. Great portions and is balanced with good proportion of meat, rice, and veggies. They only take debit or cash. LOCATION (3.5/5) Located on the East side of Yonge St by Northtown Way, it is halfway between Finch and North York Center subway stations. There is paid street parking along Yonge. The store is quite small with 2-3 tables, so would expect to do takeout during peak hours. OVERALL (4.5/5) Really good value for a tasty well rounded meal. I will definitely be returning if I want a quick lunch or dinner with bang for buck. Paired with great flavours and quality of ingredients makes this a nice cheap eats reco!
